I'm on board.....how 'bout you?

I like where your thoughts are coming from, but it seems that the Worsham family has done very much for the school and that the name should remain the same.

Yes... and Wes Worsham made my little guy's day today by giving him gloves worn by Carson Lydon during the VT/GT game. It was so unexpected, I never thought to take a picture.

"I don't know what a Hokie is, but God is one of them." L Corso

Unless, of course, Worsham thinks a rename is in order. There are stadiums out there named things like Bryant-Denny, Carter-Finley, and Jordan-Hare, so Beamer-Lane might be an option, too.

No. Beamer Barn.

Do something else for Beamer

Pay him three million a year?

"The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It's a very mean and nasty place and I don't care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. " Rocky B.

I'm not sure I get the joke

No, just flat out No. Listen I love Frank for who he is and what he has done. But we already renamed a road to Beamer Way. We have a building nicknamed the Beamer Barn. Worsham and his family were supporting the team before Frank got here. They were a big money source for Tech when they didn't have anybody else. The field should stay Worsham Field.

Pretty sure Frank would agree with you.

In Sam Rogers we trust.

Agree. There are different ways to contribute. Worsham Field just sounds right.

It would pretty disrespectful to one of the most philanthropic booster that is still alive to take his name off the field. Definitely should not do that. Beamer can be honored with something else. Beamer Barn becoming official makes most sense.

The best thing to do is to start up a fund for something to be named after beamer. Maybe Whit will work on this in the offseason.

I do think it would be cool, per NCAA regs to have 25 yard line marked for long time to come.

UT PROSIM

Keep his sig on the field.

Change the red zone to the Beamer zone.

"Change the red zone to the Beamer zone."

I can only see this working if we call it the "Suggs/Beamer" red zone.

I like it. 1st and 10 from the Beamer yard line. Jackson takes the snap. Airs it out. TOUCHDOWN VT. FORD MAKES A MIRACULOUS CATCH

Slightly erratic, mostly sane, always a Hokie.

Jackson is the new Lawson.

lol no.... Do you know the importance of the name? It would be just a slap in the face to the Worsham family. Build a statue of him in front of the stadium, maybe like by the entrance between North and West side or wherever... Now I would be all for that!

How about this stance? lol

Yep, and like I said I don't think that even Frank would be on board with changing the name.

In Sam Rogers we trust.

That's cool. I agree with you & I did forget the importance of the name. Statue sounds very appropriate.

Statues of living guys weird me out.

Rename the 'quad' that is Lane/Merryman/Cassel/the Beamer barn 'The Frank Beamer Athletic Complex'. Redo the sidewalk on Beamer Way to have famous Beamer quotes. Quotes start at the corner of Washington/Beamer Way. First quote would be the one from his first press conference where he said that VT could be a national championship contender (and everyone thought he nuts). Throw in a quote from after the Texas Sugar Bowl win. Throw in some comments he made in the aftermath of 4/16. Final quote is in front of Lane, and includes something from his retirement press conference, or something reflecting on the end of his time here. The walk from Washington Street to Lane Stadium could commemorate and symbolize his career. We could even start a new tradition (or update the current tradition) where players/coaches are dropped off at the start of the 'Beamer Walk' and finish the 'Beamer Walk' as they enter the locker room.

TL;DR - Statues are nice (and well deserved) but I'd like to see something unique, since after all, there was no other coach quite like Beamer.

This is a very creative idea that deserves more upvotes.

Very good idea!

I like this but only if we can gave quotes at the crosswalks like "watch for cars, they'll really get after ya"

Wow, just all great ideas!

Brilliant you sir are an outside the taco thinker!!

Statues, renaming stuff, and metal plaques have been done. This type of thinking is what Frank deserves and continues to make VT so special to so many people.

If anything rename the Tunnel leading on to the Field after Beamer is someway.

I think Frank will be and wants to be remembered for the culture he developed rather than the wins he totaled. No better way to do that than make fans/players read his comments every day before they enter the stadium.

I would love to see it. And not with paint either, which will have to be redone every year.

Hokie stone side walk with metal lettering of his quotes all the way down. Along the side of the sidewalk, small readable signs that give a brief explanation of each quote

Someone with pull please get this in the hands of Whit and the University BOV. Now.

"Badges? We don't need no stinking badges!"

Yea! Yea! Who do I email?

Beamer-Lane Stadium?

I am the heartbeat of Blacksburg. A fortress built out of stone but made with champions.

Can't stand those hyphenated stadium names. Beamer Stadium will do.

No. I assume most people don't realize he's still alive and at almost every game. He's a legend. Well before my time, but a legend non the less. Frank will need to really up his khaki game if he wants it renamed.

Those pants are on point. I say something about them out every game I see them.

WHERE DO I BUY THESE?!?!?

I'd rather see his name added to something. A la Lane-Beamer Stadium.

I have no idea why my username is VT_Warthog.

Arkansas blew a 24-0 lead in the Belk Bowl.

In the meantime, I'm on board with renaming throwing up in your mouth a little.... Loefflering.

Leonard. Duh.

He was right next to Frank when the team carries him off Saturday. True to form.

Also:

After the Lane Stadium field was named in his honor in 1992, Worsham had a patch of the grass shipped out to his home. He has since taken small bits of it and planted it around his property, so his entire yard has grown in as Lane Stadium turf.

I want to do this... Man, Tech could make a fortune off of that....

Pain is Temporary, Chicks Dig Scars

As I was reading the article to my husband, he told me I was born into the wrong family because that is definitely something I would do. I wonder if Wes has ever thought about adoption? I could make myself available. It could be a good fit. After all, my first task after arriving at work today was this...

"I don't know what a Hokie is, but God is one of them." L Corso

Frank Beamer Football Center (or Complex, etc.)...leave the individual facility names alone

edit: nevermind...i just read the thread...hopefully it's the thought that counts

Beamer barn is extremely appropriate. The Worshams made the first million dollar donation, his yard is the same grass that's in Lane. I don't see that ever changing

Why stop there??? Just rename the town Beamerville! /s

"Take care of the little things and the big things will come."

Beamersburg

Well, there is a Paternoville...but it's tents, all the way down

Where do we put the bronze Beamer???

The older I get, the better I was...Go Hokies!!!

Next to every single HokieBird statue in Blacksburg.

I've always thought they created this area for that specific reason.

"When I was growing up, Virginia Tech was a school that was kicking ass and taking names, and it's time we get back to that" - James Franklin

Statues always worry me. It seems like, lately, statues go up and then sometime later something happens that means they get taken down. I doubt I ever have to worry about that with Beamer but it just doesnt fit right for what kind of man he is

"Welcome to the Terror Dome." -- Corey Moore

Other than JoePa, what other instance has there been where a statue has been removed?

Woodrow Wilson at Princeton comes to mind. Not sure if there's a statue, but they are trying to sanitize his presence from their campus and history.

Warning: this post occasionally contains strong language (which may be unsuitable for children), unusual humor (which may be unsuitable for adults), and advanced mathematics (which may be unsuitable for liberal-arts majors)..

I wouldn't be all too worried about sanitizing happening at Tech. Especially since so many of our early administrators served in the CSA.

Hell General Lane (Hall not Stadium) the first Commandant was the youngest general in Lee's Army of Northern Virginia, and McBryde was present at the firing on Fort Sumter after dropping out of UVA to enlist.

McBryde was present at the firing on Fort Sumter after dropping out of UVA to enlist.

Great career move.

I understand the sentiment, but you don't sell naming rights to raise capital one year, only to give the rights to someone else years later. In effect, Worsham owns the naming rights to the field just as M&T Bank owns the naming rights to the Ravens stadium.

Reality has a mighty pimp hand.

It's not at all the same - Worsham essentially paid a one time fee. M&T Bank has a living contract that details more than just a stadium name.

That being said, we absolutely should not rename Worsham field.

The only thing different is the terms. In our case Weaver was trying to raise funds so he sold the naming rights for several things. One time contribution gave you the name.

Whit could no more give the naming rights to, say, the VA Pork Board than the Ravens could resell the stadium name to Natty Boh.

Reality has a mighty pimp hand.

there should be a relief on the wall at the end of the tunnel of Beamer that every player sees as he enters the field. As if Beamer is leading every team out on the field forever.

That would be neat. Something like what Arizona State did with Pat Tillman.

Pics

yeah something like that would be just awesome. Maybe go really high tech and do a lightfield projection or projection mapping of some kind. But in the end a stone relief on the wall or a print like this one would do just fine as well.

I kind of which they would just leave his number and signature on the field for a couple of years.

25 home games maybe? so like 5 years

And here come the Hokies, as they enter Beamer Tunnel they will walk down, reach up and touch the Hokie Stone and take the field

@VTimHokie85

At some point, the way we honor Beamer has to match the way he led. He never wanted the spotlight, MUCH less taking it away from someone else. I can't think of a bigger contradiction to Frank's ideals than to remove (or diminish) an honor bestowed (or purchased) by one person in place of his own.

The indoor practice facility is the house that Beamer built. That plus Beamer Way is not only enough, but its very fitting.

Beamer Barn - honoring Frank's work ethic, and the work ethic that he bestowed among his players
Beamer Way - Remember the results of Beamer's teachings, as a result of doing them the right way. I think the sidewalk is a great way of adding to that.

I think both of those things (and maybe only those) would appropriately pay homage to the man, and the way he coached/lived.

No, just no. Beamer is going to get his share but not lane
