Is anyone else shocked at how little recognition Ford gets? He is leading the ACC in yards and TD's. It's astounding. He tied a VT record against UNC and it wasn't even mentioned in the broadcast.

The announcers are too busy talking about Bucky because the cliff notes on our team say he's our #1 threat.
"And did we mention that he came to VT as a QB and not plays TE, and that Logan Thomas came to VT as a TE and played QB. Weird, right? Anyway, stretch run to Mcmillan to the right for a short gain...."
Who came to VT as a QB.
Bucky
Yeah, but is he really tall?
My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who heard he creates a huge mismatch.
That Ford guy, he really gets after ya.
I'm going to miss comments like these. =(
Fret not! There's still hope!
Bruce Feldman/Stewart Mendell discussed Beamer potentially joining the selection committee next year. Perfect opportunity for him to talk about all the teams that will get after ya.
That would be excellent.
He would rank them all equally, it would be a disaster.
What do you think of Western Kentucky.."Great football program, love what they are doin' down there. Always respected their coach, their fans, they have an excellent program"
Don't sleep on the Hilltoppers, they'll get after ya.
and only 184 yds from our first 1,000 yd receiver with 2 games to go.
didn't andre davis have a 1000 yard season, but back then they didn't count the bowl stats towards the season stats? Thought I recalled something like that.
edit: confirmed 1070 yards in '99 with a crazy 25.5 yards per catch.
Vick to Davis. No sweeter words that season on a pass play.
Hokiesports bumps your yards per catch avg. to 27.5....may not include the bowl game. I miss those snaps from UNDER CENTER to play-action bombs.
It is still called the Andre Davis play to me and my friends.
I have never seen a player repeatedly stretch a field like he did. You knew he was trying to get behind the defense and they still could not stop him.
I think a more insightful title is in order here, something like "Lack of Recognition for Isaiah Ford".
I think he has just been lost in the mix with other stars and Beamer's retirement and I don't think it is a big deal. He has at least one, hopefully two years left in Blacksburg and I expect he will be all over the record books. His time will come.
We're losing. If we are winning, you *bet* your ass he is getting some hype.
EDIT: stupid autocorrect
I beg your pardon? You very your ass yourself, sir!
He veried his ass when he wrote the post.
Don't drink and post on the TKP, bad things happen or so I hear...
I have to admit when I saw the title, I was afraid something had happened to him.
They don't even talk about what size gloves that he wears. Are they 3x?!?
I need to know!!
I know, and since he isn't 17' 22" tall, he actually has to run sharp routes and work to get open, how boring!
Just think what Ford will do next year when we hire an offensive minded coach.
Add has Lawson with that dialed in cannon throwing to him...
Add in a r-Freshman Lawson. Or a capable, but not overwhelming, Motley. And hopefully some capable backup receivers to take Ford off the field occasionally.
My guess is his numbers go down next year, not up.
He has more yards and TD's on fewer catches than Boyd. I think his profile will be huge next year.
Love Fords game and he is having an all ACC season' but don't do the Boyd comparison. Ford is a very good receiver but lacks measurables. Boyd is 6ft2 and 200 lbs and has been great the minute he hit the field and on a different level at this point.
I'm not comparing the players r ability merely the coverage given to them by the ACC/national media.
OK but Boyd is a top 5 nation WR and probable 1st round pick. He is only player in ACC history to have 1000yd receiving in first 2 years. Broke records held by guys like FItzgerald, BRyant , STreet. Again I think Ford is outstanding player and will play on Sundays, but to think he should get the pub of a guy like Boyd not gona happen. I do think he has been undervalued by pundits who cover VT, but again those guys look at NFL Measurables and that is why BUcky gets the pub on Saturdays.
We recognizing him right now
He will get more next season. It takes most of these talking heads a while to learn who the great players are.
Yes it does. But nonetheless, I'll bet he's no worse than 2nd team all-ACC at the end of this year.
Ford is quietly having a very nice season. He's not going to jump out at you when you look at his bio. He's not a flashy player who displays over exuberance when he makes a big play. He works hard and keeps his head down. That's exactly the type of player I want this team to be filled with. He's not going to get much attention from the commentators but that hardly means anything. Ford will still show up on Saturdays and do his job. He will leave Blacksburg as one of the great Hokies that Hokie Nation loves and it really doesn't matter what the talking heads think about him. People who matter will take notice and he'll be just fine. Don't you worry.
Your description of Isaiah Ford is exactly how I've described Reggie Wayne. And that's a high compliment of the kid.
To me, Ford carries the staff of Dork Magic every game. LolUVA will know what it's like to be full dipped!
I thought Sam Rogers held that honor.
Dork magic is contagious, or so I hear.
I didn't want to start a new thread for this but I got to looking at some stats and this completely blew me away! it is ESPN so take it for what its worth but Micheal Brewer is not in the TOP 15 IN THE CONFRENCE IN PASSER RATING! that's not good. im thinking its got to be an error.

I mean he did miss a few games that will hurt his average when compared to others.
missing games shouldn't hurt is QBR. I don't think brewer meets the min attempts required.
I think both motley and brewer played roughly 4.5 games?
1) Missing games doesn't hurt one's average
2) But it does hurt one's ability to meet the minimum standards for appearing on the list. Brewer's 2015 passer rating is 136.8. Good for #6 in the ACC.
upon further review brewers QB rating isn't that bad. ESPN goofs. but it is telling that motley has still thrown more passes than brewer at this point.
Brenden Motley 92 164 1155 56.1 7.04 11 7 128.9
Michael Brewer 88 150 1122 58.7 7.48 10 5 136.8
Brewer isn't qualified. Hasn't made the requisite number of attempts due to missed games.
I am very surprised at this. Ford, in my book, is a guy who would be starting just about anywhere. The first reports I heard from him were from camp when he first came in and went over Kendall to catch a tough pass, I think there was a vine somewhere showing it. I've not been disappointed in his performance at all, and I think he's not given enough credit for how good he is.
Having said all that, I think he'll be given a lot of recognition next year or, hopefully, the next two years, as he continues to perform at a high level. I think he'll be drafted and play on Sundays.
If you play the Nebraska game when Dyrel Roberts caught it over the play when ford caught it they sound a lot a like
They looked a lot alike too.
I love him and he is having an OUTSTANDING year by VT WR standards.
But despite leading the ACC he is just 43rd in the nation!
NCAA stats
It just isn't a big year for receivers in the ACC at all.
ACC is pretty bad in terms of WR right now.
FTFY
Not bad in WR just different types of offense. Ford is much better than 40 something nationally. Hate to harp on Boyd but he is also around 40 Nationally statistically in yards. But I doubt you find 5 WR that will be drafted head of him. Talent doesn't always get fully utilized because of scheme. That's why VT has DL and DT that although the Defense finishes high statistically they don't get drafted or if so not very high.
