The ACC will be insane in a couple of years.

Fuente, Richt, Narduzzi, Fedora, Cutcliffe.

ACC Coastal Chaos.

Yeah, except for once it won't be a race to see who wants it least.

"I liked you guys a lot better when everybody told you you were terrible." -Justin Fuente

You forgot our beloved Johnson HAHAHAHAHA bottom feeders starting this past season, it was a sign of things to come, hope they enjoyed this losing season, there will be a lot more!

FIRST DOWN, HOKIES!

One asset in the hire is that Richt comes in already thoroughly familiar with CPJ's scheme.

"I liked you guys a lot better when everybody told you you were terrible." -Justin Fuente

Guarantee they'll be back.

Had bad luck with injuries and had an insanely inexperienced offense. PJ will have them rep the triple option all offseason long and get back to the basics (just like he did before Justin Thomas's breakout year) and they'll pop off again.

There's a reason GT makes it to the ACCCG about every three years. They'll make a run again when they have a stable of senior A and B backs.

"I liked you guys a lot better when everybody told you you were terrible." -Justin Fuente

Mr. Mason is indeed correct. By the middle of the season, the Jackets were down to grabbing kids off the street for the A-back position.

Plus that offensive line is going to be real good in a year or two. (So is Boston College's, for that matter.)

Leonard. Duh.

Mark Richt = good guy Gary
Miami = scumbag Steve

What does Mark Richt + Miami =

Train wreck hopefully

Slightly erratic, mostly sane, always a Hokie.

UVA botched so hard with Richt. Sent him straight to Miami, damn.

shouts out to sam rogers

I don't think they had a shot realistically.

Fun fact: Richt has now rejected UVA twice. I love that man.

We'll give him honorary Hokie status

I got it. She's a real estate agent, was told this event was a foreclosure auction for Scott stadium, and she thinks her bids are being ignored.

And in conclusion, to summarize, and finally, pulling kids out of Florida is going to get very hard for everyone:

Jimbo Fisher
Scott Frost
Mark Richt

So what you're saying is, it's the perfect time to be bringing in a coaching staff with connections in Texas, Oklahoma, Mississippi?

Check.

this comment made me think of Elian Gonzales...does that make me a racist?

Thank god for Whit, this coaching off-season has been insane

Every second counts

Mark Richt in the Coastal seems bad for us

Every second counts

I think it'll make us better. Competition breeds success. Mark Richt is a good coach but he's no Saban. He won't lock up the coastal consistently. He'll get his licks and we'll get ours. Should help us and the league in general

Onward and upward

It was pretty competitive with Al Golden. Canes had the Hokies at 3-2.

Leonard. Duh.

I don't really understand your point.

Onward and upward

if Richt is an upgrade over Golden then, all other things being equal (which they aren't), one could expect things to go worse for us and the Coastal in general under Richt. We managed to have a losing record against Golden, Richt could be enough of an upgrade that 2-3 becomes 0-5.

at least I think that was his point

Warning: this post occasionally contains strong language (which may be unsuitable for children), unusual humor (which may be unsuitable for adults), and advanced mathematics (which may be unsuitable for liberal-arts majors)..

I will say that a lot of the reason why we had a losing record against Golden was that he was a coach during a time when we had plenty of our own issues to deal with...

"When I was growing up, Virginia Tech was a school that was kicking ass and taking names, and it's time we get back to that" - James Franklin

Apples and oranges. We have a new hc and completely new (and proven) offensive coaching staff. I don't expect Miami to improve while VT maintains current status quo. That is illogical.

Onward and upward

I was just replying to your point. If I have you dialed in, you're saying that with Richt at coach, Miami and VT will be a back-and-forth competitive affair.

My point was that it was already pretty back and forth with Al Golden.

Leonard. Duh.

If he's coming to the ACC Coastal, I'd rather it be at VT, but if not VT, I'd rather it be Miami than UVa.

It's clear to me that Whit made the right move in getting Fuente when he did. UVa is now left standing there with their Johnson in their hand, when you know they knew they were going to fire London at the end of the season. I'm sure they'll get someone, but now it's awkward all around, since it's clear whoever they get is their second choice...

Maybe it's not too late to get Al Golden.

UVa is now left standing there with their Johnson in their hand,

I was initially concerned too, as with all the talent down there he could finally give ESPN what they want - "the U is back!" But ironically - and as much as I hate Miami - that's really what we, the Coastal division, and the ACC needs in order for the national media and fans to take the ACC more seriously. We need more than FSU and Clemson to shine...consistently.

ChicagoHokie

We need two teams at the top of the Coastal.

I nominate VT and Miami. Someone needs to tell this to UNC, maybe during their upcoming NCAA sanctions.

I was just thinking this exact thing. I think Fedora bolts eventually anyways so I think the success at UNC, although impressive right now, is short lived.

Edit. And you're right. UNC is soon to suffer a heat death from their NCAA violations which should be interesting to watch unfold.

"...When we step on that field, they bleed like we bleed and we're gonna show the world."
-Corey Marshall

what NCAA violations is everyone talking about? Are they actually in trouble for something at the moment, or is it more of a "not if, but when" type scenario?

They are still under investigation currently. A quick google of "UNC NCAA violations" should get you started. Just beware the comment sections on the articles as they are no place for sane humans.

"...When we step on that field, they bleed like we bleed and we're gonna show the world."
-Corey Marshall

UNC got their notice of allegations this past summer. The NCAA Committee of Infractions hasn't met yet for UNC punishment.

If you want some fun reading, go to https://twitter.com/BlueDevilicious. Some Dukies have received over 21,000 emails from UNC through Freedom of Information Act request. They're going through them and posting nice tidbits

example:

So I'm seeing multiple reporters saying Richt didn't even go to UVA today. Didn't even give them the time of day.

Well, that's actually better if that's the way it went down.

It's a bit more humiliating if they actually met in person, and Richt then decided they were clowns.

He already knew they were clowns, which is why he didn't take it the first time, though he could have taken one of his 5 "officials" just to get a decent steak dinner!

ChicagoHokie

Like he needs a free meal.

I guess he wanted it to be perfectly clear what he's worth.

I think Littlepage is in for a rude awakening of just how far down the ladder of college football hierarchy UVA has slid. They are going to have a hard time keeping pace in this coaching carousel.

"I liked you guys a lot better when everybody told you you were terrible." -Justin Fuente

Slid?

It's where it's always been.

Not really. They were a respectable program under Welsh, and a lot of people thought Groh would continue the trend. Instead Groh put the program into a decline, and London has now bottomed it out. I think a lot of people within the program still think they have gravitas from the days of George Welsh, but they're sorely mistaken.

"I liked you guys a lot better when everybody told you you were terrible." -Justin Fuente

They did have some success under Welsh, but I don't think "gravitas" is a word I ever associated with UVa football.

But I guarantee you it's a word Hoos associate with it. They're douchey and delusional. They're...

DOUCHELUSIONAL.

"I liked you guys a lot better when everybody told you you were terrible." -Justin Fuente

Is this a thing? This should be a thing.

But Foster did fly out to Illinois....right...

Rivalry week I'd rather play Miami or West Virginia instead of LOLUVA, it just seems like having a rival like LOL is degrading to us.

FIRST DOWN, HOKIES!

But there are two things that signal the beginning of the Christmas season: watching Santa roll past Macy's in NYC, and seeing the Hokies drink from the Commonwealth Cup.

The Orange and Maroon you see, that's fighting on to victory.

"...When we step on that field, they bleed like we bleed and we're gonna show the world."
-Corey Marshall

We have just dodged the largest bullet. He could have done us more damage at UVa

Richt will be good wherever he goes. Miami needs a guy who suits Miami.

For the record, I do not think this is a good fit. I think Richt will be better than Golden because he is a better coach. But I don't think Richt is the right guy for that program.

Also, Miami will be better in short order. If Shannon is his DC, trouble could be spelled.

Another thing nobody's mentioning, it doesn't matter who the coach is in Coral Gables until the administration decides to make a major investment in the facilities for the program. Having to play at a pro stadium is bad enough, but their entire football facilities have fallen so far behind the curve in the ACC. They haven't begun to rebound from the damage that Donna Shalala did to the program.

"I liked you guys a lot better when everybody told you you were terrible." -Justin Fuente

If I were Richt, I'd want assurances on support from the administration before I took the job.

Richt at UVA would have been terrifying.

Wonder if he'll bring Searles as his OL coach?

We put the K in Kwality

The week could get a lot better if UVA hire Al Golden.

Allen Ox

Good news for Hokies and the rest of the ACC Coastal:

๐Ÿฆƒ ๐Ÿฆƒ ๐Ÿฆƒ

I'm really looking forward to this new-look ACC. I honestly think the Big East was better in our final years than the ACC 2005-2010. Miami was elite, WVU was solid in 2002 and 2003, Pittsburgh had Larry Fitzgerald to go with a few other decent players, and Boston College was a good team from about 2003-2008.

Tech pretty much ran the ACC from 2004-2011, and there was always 1 or 2 other teams that would stay fixed in the top 25. Then when Tech lost its mojo in 2012, FSU and Clemson took over.

When we first joined the ACC, we didn't picture it was going to be as poor as it was in the following years. NC State, FSU, and Miami all struggled after 2005, Georgia Tech and Clemson were inconsistent, and Boston College didn't exactly pan out the way the conference thought they would.

Now, we have one elite team (Clemson), two solid programs who are recruiting well so they have the potential to improve even more (UNC and FSU), two programs that have been consistent the past couple years (Pitt and Duke), and now you have Miami and VT hiring new, hopeful coaches. In a few years, the ACC could be what we thought it was going to be in 2004.

The best part, though: every conference has a couple bottom feeders. Those are good because it gives you a chance to give players valuable conference game experience. Every year we happen to play one of these teams, and it also happens to be a rivalry that we have won 12 straight in. Things don't look to be getting any better for them either.

honestly I don't think Miami really ever respected Golden. He seemed pretty doomed from the start.

what tipped you off? Was it the fact that they kept the whole Shapiro scandal under wraps until after he accepted the job and was all settled in down there?

Richt was down to between retiring it coaching Miami

That does not bode well for the future of that program. I mean, yeah he's a good coach, but he isn't going to be what they expect him to be, and there's a decent chance he practically phones in his tenure there.

And even with that said, even if he gives it his all, between Fuente and Bud, we still have the best coaching staff in the Coastal. Only a matter of time before we are back to dominating again.

"When I was growing up, Virginia Tech was a school that was kicking ass and taking names, and it's time we get back to that" - James Franklin

If there was ever... EVER.... a quote to show just how much of the wrong guy he is for the Miami job, this is it.

"When I was growing up, Virginia Tech was a school that was kicking ass and taking names, and it's time we get back to that" - James Franklin

Yeah, I know he played at Miami and all, but this just seems like a real mismatch in terms of who Richt is and who Da U wants to be. Though Miami's administration wants a cleaner image and Richt clearly fits that, the booster may not agree.

"Exit light..."

The booster they had the most issue with is in jail.

Yeah, I really like Mark Richt. And I can envision a scenario where his soft hand is the guiding force that gets all that Miami talent to finally play together. He does have the resume and the gravitas to garner those guys respect.

But I can also see where this is a massive cluster. UGA fans hated Richt's conservative playcalling. If they get really conservative, lose some close games, he could splinter from that fanbase (?) really quickly.

What fanbase?
