Wouldn't consider this a reputable source, but if true, he could be working with Aaron Moorehead again.

Until confirmed by a reputable source...

If you are on the aTm or LSU staffs currently, it is time to make a jump. Either or both of those HCs will be canned next year. Sumlins job looked secure just a few months ago, but his QB saga has him on a hot seat.

Corollary: Tom Herman will be caching one of those two schools next year.

Yea at first I was surprised an LSU coordinator left for a "lower" SEC job at the same position but the. I thought about this.

Yeah I think Herman will be coaching aTm next year and Chip Kelly will be at LSU.

Unless UT has a really *ahem* Strong season, I expect a bidding war between Texas and aTm for Herman.

Hokies United l Ut Prosim

That Georgia staff will be young and good if that is true!!!

Ugh i hate u[sic]ga, hope they don't get better.

That would be a good place to land, but I would like to see him make a jump to HC somewhere.

Sometimes we live no particular way but our own

I'm sure he would also like that

Certainly not a bad spot but considering how many time's I feel like we've heard he's being considered for an FCS or G5 HC gig I am peculiar.

I have no idea why my username is VT_Warthog.

Arkansas blew a 24-0 lead in the Belk Bowl.

Its kind of like when you take that first real offer so you guarantee the checks keep coming in while waiting for USA Jobs to get back to you months later about the Home Run job you were in line for. If he gets better, he goes elsewhere but in the meantime it keeps him working at a P5 school while waiting rather than just hanging in the breeze.

Wish him well either way.

I find it hard to believe that Kirby Smart has hired his entire staff already.

Wiley, Brown, Russell, Drakeford, Gray, Banks, Prioleau, Charleton, Midget, Bird, McCadam, Pile, Hall, Green, Fuller, Williams, Hamilton, Rouse, Flowers, Harris, Chancellor, Carmichael, Hosley, Fuller, Exum, Jarrett

Shane's coaching tree is impressive. If he does well here he is set up for big things.

Seriously. When he finally gets a shot to be a HC he's going to be able to pull from some serious knowledge.

Frank Beamer
Steve Spurrier
George O'Leary
Phillip Fulmer
Sylvester Croom
Kirby Smart

I could see it
Athens is a good town, close to Atlanta and only 45 min from Frank's lake house.

I like it, mostly because it's not ACC.

Happy for Shane although I wish he had gotten a shot at his first head coaching job somewhere.

I think this is going to turn out true and have seen Shane's name in just about every UGA staff list the past few days. If some/all of these are true is shows how well respected Smart is because some of these are leaving good jobs. Although now that Sumlin has been fired the Moorehead move makes even more since.

Edit: Mr Football Talk is also the only person reporting that Kevin Sumlin has been fired. Seems par for the course for the offseason of #sources

Sumlin has been fired? Not surprising, but I haven't seen that anywhere yet.

"Exit light..."

Well, the Mr Football Talk guy (cited in this thread) tweeted that Sumlin was fired. Then nothing from anywhere. So I don't think it's true. Definitely hurts his credibility if he's wrong, and idk how he would be the only one that knew.

So.... I should've left his Twitter page before I posted.

It's all good. I was just curious. I was talking with some friends earlier about Moorehead's rumored departure and if it signaled a bigger change coming at A&M. Have to believe the A&M admin is not happy with what's been going on recently. A lot of bad optics for that program, so it's not unreasonable to think that Sumlin's position is tenuous.

"Exit light..."

Agree completely. I can see A&M feeling almost forced to make a move with the level of turmoil there. It's crazy how Herman's demand just keeps skyrocketing and he is basically in the driver's seat for any football job in the state of Texas that he wants now

I haven't seen a report about Sumlin's firing, but with Chip Kelly now available, someone somewhere is going to get fired.

An actual reputable source reported Shane interviewed with Kirby Smart: http://onlineathens.com/breaking-news/2016-01-03/shane-beamer-radar-kirb....

The new Bulldogs head football coach worked on assembling his coaching staff.

That included interviewing Shane Beamer, according to sources. Beamer, who spent the past five seasons at Virginia Tech, met with Smart at the Georgia team hotel.

Longtime Hokies coach Frank Beamer, Shane's father, retired after this season.

Shane Beamer could serve in a special teams coordinator role or coach a position on offense.

This is obviously a huge distraction for Kirby Smart. Just look what MSU did to the Tide.

-What we do is, if we need that extra push, you know what we do? -Put it up to fully dipped? -Fully dipped. Exactly. It's dork magic.

I know, MSU must have put up dozens of yards against hist defense. A sad state of affairs indeed.

Ok, so "MrFootballTalk" on twitter should be banned from TKP. Because UGA didn't hire Shane or AMo and Sumlin hasn't been fired....at least not that anyone knows about.

It was confirmed by Coaching Search that Shane did interview for the job, however nothing has come out that he was offered or accepted the position.

Looks official now

I'm in the minority here but I'm going to miss him and his family.

Me too. I hope he develops into a great coach and we get to welcome him back one day.

I was not a fan of his rb by committee mentality but he was great as a person and team player and I wish him all the best at his new location and job.

I can imagine no more rewarding a career. And any man who may be asked in this century what he did to make his life worthwhile, I think can respond with a good deal of pride and satisfaction:
β€œI served in the United States Navy"

I love Shane but there was no place for him on this staff. You can't keep the son of the former coach, no matter how accomplished he is (and Shane is accomplished).

I'm really hopeful that Shane learns under Kirby and is plucked up as a HC at some smaller school in a few years. When Fuente moves along in 8 or 10 years, I hope Shane is ready to come back as the next HC.

I am going to miss him as well. Just doesn't seem right for a Beamer
to not be at VT....best of luck to him and his family. I am sure moving from
VT will not be an easy thing for him to do but he will always be a Hokie.

@AMB4VT

It's a great move for him. Times have changed - if he wants a legacy anything like his father's, he won't be able to stay in one place.

Tight ends? Kinda odd that Shane has been shuffled through damn near every position, but it's gonna be a huge help when he finally gets his shot at the top of the totem pole.

It actually isn't as odd as you might think. Lots of coaches shuffle through various positions on one side of the ball. The stability of the VT staff over Frank's tenure makes it seem odder than it is now.

Honestly, Shane is in great shape here because he worked alongside Stiney for several years, who is a very good TE coach.

Very glad for both him and Stacy Searels. Both great guys who I am glad to see land on their feet. Now I just wish Stacy wasn't at Miami.

Glad he is going to get a shot in a good program. Always have liked UGA and their tradition.

Except for the 2006 Chick Fil-A Bowl... I believe that is the first and only bowl game to end after 3 quarters of play.

I believe this one did as well

Also that other game in possibly the same place where it was ..something, something.. Michigan.. Something, something.. Danny caught it!...

Slightly erratic, mostly sane, always a Hokie.
