I want to address a trend I've noticed on TKP with regard to discussing recruiting. There are a few TKPers who post nothing more than information absorbed from elsewhere on the interwebs (usually from sources behind a paywall). There is a difference between using various pieces of information as the building blocks for a new point or unique perspective, and regurgitating it at every chance in every thread. It's not a direct copy and paste job (as outlawed by the Community Guidelines), but it's not value added. Please stop doing this.
I don't know if these folks feel empowered pretending to be the smartest person in the room, or they're just trying to pass along information. In either event, it doesn't foster a conversation among the majority of TKP's community because it's a one-sided dialog by its nature. (Those without access to the information at-hand are in the dark and are listening more than participating.)
Please have those conversations at their point of origin.
TKP covers recruiting by interviewing Virginia Tech targets, their coaches, attending camps, and letting y'all know about commitments as soon as they happen. This is extensive coverage, but not all encompassing. If you want a caffeine drip of recruiting updates, then pay for a recruiting service to keep you up to date. They will get you from Point A to B (Tech's targets to who commits and signs) much like TKP, but with a bunch more stops (some of which are inane) in between.

Comments
so posting 2 tweets about someone committing to Marshall is not acceptable or was it the comments/lack of comments inside that made it a no go?
Can I create a topic on what Qualifiers, Partial Qualifiers and Non Qualifiers are so people understand what could have happened that way they can understand it better than just "Grades"? I think it would be a enlightening post especially since VT has had its fair share of kids prep.
If not that is fine.
This post isn't directed at you. Your thread got deleted because it was a duplicate of the one Joe created.
gotcha...
But who posted 1st?
I would love a post on the Qualifers, etc. I have noticed that there have been several recruiting topics posted that seem to have more information in the title than in the post. I mean when you open the post and it only tells you a position and star rating its not very helpful. I would say if the post doesn't even include Height, Weight, ratings, position, hometown, some links to highlight vids, etc than its not worth posting and only adds noise. I like the updates and I think that the monthly recruiting threads are a great idea for this. This time of the year is slow everything football except recruiting so I suspect this storm will pass around mid Feb.
I guess this is sort of tangentially related.
For the sake of organization, would you consider subdividing the recruiting forum into recruiting cycles by year? Just to keep the posts grouped together by class?
Dammit Joe, you're creating confusion in the Decepticon ranks....
OT but since Cantor and Guerry deal with recruiting here is my problem, they do not match the rest of the staff as far as pictures go on Hokiesports.com. As a person with OCD I am appalled, I love the maroon VT shirts they are more blue collar and everyone is on the same page per se. But the last 2 pictures make the whole thing an eye sore. I realize nobody else cares so sorry but had to put this out there! Here is the link for some who are lost, http://www.hokiesports.com/football/coaches/
Agreed, and there is room for one more recruiting position in this layout.
I see Scott is now officially DT coach and Wiles is DE coach. That's an interesting division.
And it seems we are out thinking ourselves with Burden at RB and Wiggins at WR. The logic of that assignment eludes me. Or alludes me. Whatever, words.
I guess I get this, but from someone who doesn't really go to any other VT sports-related sites, I find those links interesting and useful because I wouldn't otherwise see them.
What links are you talking about? I didn't mention anything about links, and didn't mean to imply anything about them either.
Interesting links, with interesting content shared with context is what we're going for here.
I guess when you say "direct copy and paste" I think of posts where people quote an article and then provide the link. If you're saying you're still good with things like that, then I'm on board.
I hope you aren't talking about Ben. He clearly reads 247s pay content and very respectfully adds points in recruiting discussions that provide the rough outline of the insiders without giving too much away. That is very much value added to me.
I don't pay for recruiting info, but you can pick up a lot for free on 247s board. You can hover over any pay topic and get the first 40 words or so and get the gist. And the free posts often paint the picture of the pay material.
I think Ben could work on his delivery, it's very lord on high to us non paywall peons. Info might be great just needs to work on how he delivers it.
We all could.
So the actual breaking news "Player X committed/decommitted/transferred" with link to story or embedded tweet is still good to go once tracker is checked?
Of course. The specific problem that Joe is pointing out is the increasing number of people who provide nothing other than paywalled information, regurgitating the same one-liners across multiple threads with nothing else.
I know I really enjoy reading those posts that you can tell are by people in the know and made by respected members after seeing them post for the almost two years I have been a member. Glad to see this being addressed as I see far too much of it on other forums and one of the things that sets TKP apart from those other sites. Go Hokies
