A place to put all your thoughts, cheers and more importantly menu items for the Superbowl.
My heart wants Peyton to win one more and go silently into the night but my head says Carolina is just too good on both sides of the ball and pulls away in the 2nd half. Panthers 28 Bronc's 20. Now on the important stuff:
I got homemade potato skins going for the app, several varieties of chips with homemade Guac and Salsa and wings with 4 different sauces (Garlic, Pesto, Hot and BBQ). Finally 3 different kinds of Brats going on the grill.
To drink I have a variety of IPA's and Tripel's not to mention a couple of bottles of wine for the ladies and some Whiskey to finish out the night.
Who is ready for the last game of the season?!

Comments
I've got these oven baked Old Bay wings that have become a huge hit in the AZHokie household the last few weeks. Skins gets super crispy.
Bout to crack open a liter of home brewed hard cider that has been mellowing for a couple of months...mmmm.
Rooting for the Panthers, but will honestly be perfectly fine with either team winning. Should make for enjoyable viewing
Recipes please, this is for anyone who posts food please.
For the wings:
4 lbs wings
4 tbl old bay
2 tsp baking powder (this is the key)
Mix together in large bowl, and then place in ziploc bag. I put in the fridge for about 4-6 hours
Oven to 425, wings on a rack over baking sheet, skin side up. Cook for 25 min. Flip and another 15 min.
Sauce is:
4 tbl Frank's red hot
4 tbl worchestshrie
4 tbl butter
Melt slowly in saucepan. Pour over wings, toss and let sit in bowl. After 5 minutes toss again, sauce really sinks in this way.
Enjoy
Delicious thank you!
Hope Peyton finds a way to ride off victorious. Won't be there to watch it either way. Have tried several times over the last couple weeks to get interested enough but decided sleep is more important.
Dab on 'em, Cam!!! Go Panthers!
I really am a casual Panthers fan, but I've supported them from day 1. Starting to get pre game jitters.
Fried Cheese Curds FTW
Pregame was two dirty martinis, and for the game I've got Franks Red Hot buffalo chicken dip and a case of Sierra Nevada.
I pulled out the Balvenie, 14 year aged in a Caribbean rum cask.
Name dropper.
I have 2 racks of baby back ribs I smoked for 5 hours with hickory wood. For the rub I used Meathead's Memphis Dust recipe with a little BBQ sauce on top. http://amazingribs.com/recipes/rubs_pastes_marinades_and_brines/meathead...
I also smoked 3 dozen wings with apple wood. For the rub I used cumin, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne powder. For the sauce I used Franks redhot, honey, sweet chili sauce, and a bit of BBQ sauce. I smoked them for about an hour and then crisped the skin on the grill.
I believe in basing a menu off the regional favorites of the teams playing. So I'll be serving vinegar-based barbecue and marijuana.
Too late to get an invite?
If it's Charlotte, I think BBQ there is tomato-based since they're much closer to Lexington.
We went through a LOT of barbecue...
That Steve Harvey commercial doe
Nothing beats the nightmare fuel puppy monkey baby.
My wifey is knocked up with #3 and I was Eating Doritos when that commercial came on so we both started cracking up
We tailgated watching Puppy Bowl (which to me is as good as an event as the SB).
Crockpot pulled buffalo chicken
Fried pickles
Quest dip (homemade, of course)
And Rollos melted inside pretzel (square) snaps for the health benefits!
And beer...as$ loads of beer.
Wow, Denver's O has gone to full-on sh*t-for-brains.
Boneless wings, 4 sauces
French Dip sliders
Nachos
Beer
Remind me whose
brilliantidea was it to put effin Coldplay for the halftime instead of another band like the Foo Fighters, Green Day or Linkin Park?Old people with lots of money?
Old people with lots of money never heard of Cold Play.
Because when I think of Beyonce...I automatically associate Coldplay.
Halftime show wasn't bad, but the mix was messed up the whole time. None of the lead vocals were high enough.
Eh I think all the tributes made up for it. I think the emotional impact was great...but then again I am 7 beers in
Some of us old people without money would like to have seen someone better.
Broncos need to change those cleats. Not getting any traction.
Carolina choking. Everything that went right for them this season going wrong. This game is already over, but that screw up by the refs on the first challenge may end up being the difference.
Methinks you may have spoken too soon, but we'll see.
I never speak too soon. Carolina sucked
Well I've seen this kind of pathetic effort numerous times in a big game as a Hokie....
Panthers offense didn't even show up. These receivers are absolutely garbage and if dumbshits like Cotchery could catch this is much different.
Cam has missed a number of throws. Carolina WRs played over their heads all season long. Finally catching up to them against an elite D
Seriously though, that Denver defense is legit.
edited to add: but yeah, the Panthers stunk this one up
Yeah he's had a couple misses but he's put the ball on the numbers numerous times only to see the receiver fuck it up.
Denver D is very good but for the most part the Panthers are playing week enough to win but the receivers are letting the whole team down....
6 presnap penalties on Carolina
We are definitely watching a Hokie game at this point
Cam gave up on that fumble.
Cam is the anti LeDay. Backs away from 50-50 balls.
Every talking head on ESPN is going to dog Cam all offseason for that weak ass decision to not go for that ball. Seems Cam can take winning well but not losing well.
That was strictly a long career/business decision in his mind I guarantee it.
Granted but everybody will spin it into Cam is soft. The appearance of that play is horrible.
Let them talk. Game was over at that point and if he drives in for it he would get hurt, be it concussion or some injury he spends all off season rehabbing. But you know the firestorm that will come as the media has been waiting to pounce on him for anything.
But whatever, he'll use it as motivation for next year and with Benjamin back and hopefully some OL help, would not be surprised to see them back to destroying the NFC next year.
OL, WR are needs it looks like.
OL definitely, but don't forget that Kelvin Benjamin was out all year.
Also heard some WRs have already told their agents to work with Gettleman to play for the Panthers next year. I know Alshon Jeffery has already expressed interest, and if he's willing to take a discount to go for a title....
OL so needs help, and WR while talented drops too often. 3 crucial drops tonight cost them the win. First Cotchery drop, the next play is the strip sack TD. Second drop by Cotchery would have given the Panthers 1st and goal from the 5 with a chance to take the lead. Gano misses the ensuing Field Goal. This drop was on Ginn inside the 20, but he pops it up and it gets intercepted. That's at least a 14 point swing, likely 17 or 21. They lost by 14.
WR has to be the biggest need this off season. These drops were the norm but usually they could overcome. Against the Top defense, you can't afford that. The receivers cost them the game.
I agree with most of your points.
The miracle of the Panthers to me is their salary structure... offensive MVP, (??? defensive MVP???, maybe best CB in the game?... how do they pay these guys without a fall off other areas?
they really need to pitch the deal like they did to Oher... Cam seemed to pitch it to him in a way that made him want to come there and play for them... especially guys who for one reason or another can still play but are coming off an off year
i know nothing about their salary cap but really thought they would win just based on their talent alone... that DT they have is a nightmare as well
If the Panthers want Jeffrey, he would probably be willing to take a discount. Pretty obvious he wants to be here, not sure he is affordable though.
Can't wait for Benjamin to come back. We missed him out there last night.
Scam Newton crying like a little punk. Enjoyed every second of it.
Seems like an odd comment. "Scam Newton"?
Newton was an absolute beast this season. what scam was he about? I'm not a Carolina fan (E A G L E S EAGLES), but seems like a weird guy to hate so much. But if your cool with your own bad look...
I believe that name comes from his Auburn days. I don't remember the exact story and I don't know how it even came about. I think there was a rumor that there was some $$$ exchanged that shouldn't have been and Cam was somehow involved. I'm guessing that nothing came of it since his Heisman hasn't been taken away and none of Auburn's wins while he was there have been vacated. It's probably just the nick-name Alabama fans made for him because he was playing for their most hated opponent. Essentially, people who don't like Cam for whatever reason will call him Scam Newton. I think it's unwarranted but I don't know the details.
In truth I appreciated it whenever he would score a TD and hand it to a young kid in their home stadium (a trend that carried over to his teammates). What I don't appreciate was the apparent lack of humility with the very excessive taunting dances, as well as his inability to lose gracefully. I will make note that it was noble of him to go and congratulate Manning, even though it was after numerous tantrums. That said, my opinion of him has not changed and I still enjoyed him losing. Gave me the jollies. As I understand, gave a lot of folks the jollies.
meh. I don't really have a strong opinion on Cam. I think this country has grown soft, especially with all of the political correctness police and social justice warriors going crazy on line. My view on Cam celebrating is that if you don't want him to celebrate don't let him score. Denver kept him out of the end zone. He didn't celebrate. I think that is fair.
Bingo. As a Panthers fan, I don't like the way Cam handled his post game behavior. But it's pretty silly how much hate he gets from people.
Yeah about that post game... Why the hell blast the interviews from midfield of the celebration in the area you're trying to interview the losing players? First time I've ever seen that and I don't blame Cam for leaving. I mean it's one thing to have to answer questions about the loss, but to answer them while being forced to listen to and see the victorious opponents talking shit about the way you played while doing that interview? Fuck that
It's almost like the NFL was trying to create that kind of reaction.
Could careless about Cam's post game interview. However his child like tantrums on the field made me cringe. I'm not a Carolina fan but I felt embarrassed as a football fan. Here is the MVP of the league falling on his back and rolling around like a toddler that didn't get what it wanted. My wife's giving birth to our first kid this month and any future tantrums that I get to deal with I will call "Cam'ing". For example, I was in a grocery store the other day and this 2yr old was just started Cam'ing in the middle of the aisle. Screaming something about wanting R2D2 soup even though his mother said there were none left.
I think you're exaggerating.
You are right. The 2yr old at the store was a story. Sadly Cam still behaved that way.
I thought you were about to state that the screaming 2 yr old was better behaved than Cam.
Defense won this championship. Plain and simple. Nobody could hang with their stuff.
Late to the Super Bowl party here but...
Glad to see Denver won, I wanted Peyton to win and retire.
Food was
1) 9 hour slow cooker ribs with a pretty standard rub (salt pepper brown sugar cayenne chili powder)
2) simple pasta sauce: crushed and diced tomatoes with a little sugar and fresh basil garlic olive oil
3) meatballs, 2/3 beef and 1/3 pork, egg buttermilk white bread salt pepper parmesean fresh parsley; baked until brown
mmm leftovers
Edit: Yes, yes...
o.O
Yeah, the recipe is called" The Yogi Berra".
ha. Leg
I have a feeling the title of this thread should be altered to something along the lines of SB Dishes & Dips (plus game) since the majority of the posts were about those instead of the game. Not a criticism. However, the criticism I do put fwd is that none of them were shared with me.
I have seen every Super Bowl, may have been one of the most boring ones.
It is funny in the age of dynamic, pass happy offenses that we would get a record setting Super Bowl in regards to offensive futility. That said, I love watching great defense, but this game was also very sloppy.
As a Panthers fan I haven't been this devastated over a sporting event since January 4th, 2012.
Shout out to Peyton though. Legend. Good for guys like Ware, as well. Miller is an absolute manchild too.
Someone said last night that shutdown defenses make games unwatchable/boring. When it's my Broncos doing the shutting down, I think it was one of the best SBs ever. One in every 6.25 SBs has had my Broncos in as the AFC champions. We don't win them all but when we do, it feels sooooo goooood. Times when I like both pie & cake. My excitement got so fully dipped after that clinching TD, I almost threw up in my mouth.
A shutdown defense added to a offense that could at least get a 1st down would have been fine.
As a Panthers fan, I will say that the Broncos defense is easily one of the best ever, EASILY. They destroyed Roethlisberger, Brady, and Newton, and I mean destroyed.
I agree 100%. I always think games dominated by defense are boring to watch unless it's the Hokies doing the dominating, then it's extremely exciting.
Late to the party. 16 year old has wanted to experiment with deep frying, so I used this as a chance to teach basic deep fry principles for using an outdoor fry set. We fried wings, crab rangoon, jalapeo poppers, onion rings, and mushrooms. Also got a bushel of oysters.
For the wings, bought them frozen, thawed, and let sit covered with only paper towel to get a crispy skin starting Friday. Bought mild and hot wing sauces to toss, and made a kick it up rub for those it want it HOT. Heat to 375, add 10 wings of similar size, stir occasionally to prevent sticking, and fry until 30 seconds after the last one floats. toss with rub, sauce or both while the next batch fries.
Rub: 1/4 TSP ground dried habanero pepper, ghost pepper, black tongue scorpion pepper, red thai pepper, and berbere spice blend, garlic powder. Add 1 TBSP brown sugar, Lowrey's season salt. Add 1 tsp thyme, cardamom, sage, and ms t salt free chicken seasoning.
For crab rangoon - bought wonton wrappers. put a tsp softened cream cheese and a piece of imitation crab in the middle, brushed the side with egg wash and folded over and pressed hard to seal. Had to cool the old to 325 to keep from frying to fast. Took about 30 seconds per side to get golden brown,
Poppers - (wear gloves!) broil peppers (or grill) until burnt black. Transfer to a sealed container to cool. Rub off skin, remove seeds. stuff with soft cream cheese (or grated mexican cheese). toss in flour, dip in egg wash, roll in bread crumbs, refrigerate to set and harden cheese. Throw 10-15 in deep fryer at a time until toasty brown.
Onion rings, mushrooms. Make right before frying. Start with 1 cup beer (I use New Castle) to one cup flour. Add flour (or beer) until pancake consistency. I season with Lowrey's, garlic powder, cayenne pepper, and sugar. Dip veggies until completely coated, drop in fryer, and separate. careful to not overcrowd. Flip over when top batter starts to set to get even browning. I tried Sweet Baby Rays special sauce with them, which was a hit.
30 some oysters were served raw, 35 where roasted at 400 until the first ones opened, and 35 were in a steamer basket on the stove until they opened (over-cooked for me, but some people like them that way.
Rooted for the Panthers, but not an NFL fan. Fourth game I watched through all season. Ate and drank to much. Not a fan of the Panther Juice someone brought, but the company was great.
Question: is today supposed to be National Hangover Day??
I was celebrating earlier today, but the "enthusiasm" is wearing off.
Holy crep, y'all gotta check this out! WARNING: MNBSFW (maintain appropriate volume levels).
this.....
can't be real....
right?
If you're[anyone] a Hokie fan, we've ALL felt this way, probably more than once.
there is a significant difference between being upset and yelling and stamping your feet vs physically destructing over a thousand dollars worth of household items. I don't believe that this was a legitimate rampage. For one, the camera was already rolling and the "son" made little effort to stop the "dad." I have to imagine that they were planning on replacing that television with something bigger and better and instead of throwing the old one away they decided to make a "funny rampage" video. Plus he had some random objects which are great for bashing electronics conveniently accessible for the rampage. Seems staged to me. Maybe a small part of me just hopes this whole thing is staged for the sake of humanity. It scares me to think there are people out there who have legitimately serious anger-management problems and can be triggered by a game. Yeah, I've gotten upset over some VT losses in the past but I have yet to physically harm anyone or anything.
If you're a Broncs, Falcs, Saints or Bucs, or anti-Cam fan, it's pretty freakin hilarious. I found it both funny AND disturbing at the same time. I also fwd this to my fam to show how my passion and reaction to losses pales in comparison.
I know people who have caused thousands of dollars of damage in sports related rages. They are terrifying to be around...
I've never know anyone who went on sports rampages, but I had a friend back in Blacksburg who would go way off the handle for seemingly innocuous things. I quickly stopped hanging out with him. I don't want friends to be liabilities.
Whoever made that is AWEOMSE
The Press Start to Skip halftime show was freakin hilarious. Curious why it didn't include the FG attempt banking off the goal post.
