So I was looking through the Hokies Football Instagram and there was some lovely individual railing on Motley. With no regard for human life, Gayle drops out of no where to end these shenanigans. Good to see Gayle still looks out for his guys. 99 was a great captain.

Bane Gayle coming.
...for you.
You?
James Gayle plays social media like he played on the field- fast and hard.
Savage.
James Gayle is my all time favorite talker of trash in the public. If it weren't for LoganDozer's 38-0 burn of that LOLUVA kid, I'd have to say that Gayle just owns social media trash talking. I would hate him if he weren't ours.
I will always love that man.
RIP jerrytime21
I had to comment on that as well. Too many people saying Motley was trash. Usually I try not to comment on social media but it just got to me I guess. He did a more than serviceable job in Brewer's absence last year and I, for one, was appreciate of his efforts last season.
I thought Motley played about how I'd expect a backup sophomore QB to play. There were games when he looked good, like Purdue and NC State. There were games when he played poorly, like Pitt and Miami. And it's not like losing to ECU was his fault.
I don't think it's fair for people to go on social media to call him "hot garbage" or a "bum."
In particular, people who likely never started a game at the HS level, let alone a D1 school. There are over 37,000 high schools in the US. If each averaged 20 starters in football, that makes just under 3/4 million starters, in a given year. Roughly, 128 D1 schools, so just over 2,800 starters (O and D). Odds of starting a D1 game are basically, 0.4% and that's just out of the guys who were starters for a year in HS. People expect levels of excellence from athletes that they couldn't live up to in any single aspect of their own lives.
I'll get off my soap box now.
FWIW, this guy says he played at App State in the mid2000's, Unfortunately, he either goes by a pseudonym on Twitter (not his handle, his actual name) or never saw play time as searching for him yielded no useful information at all besides his twitter.
Maybe he played a different sport at App State, like intramural flag football.
I honestly have no clue. I'm inclined to give credit where credit is due. I don't want to start a witch hunt in the meantime. Either way, that's just the kind of fan I don't deal with. If you want to hate a guy, at least make sure he earned it. Motley gets nothing but hate for working his ass off and trying to make a name for himself when the #1 guy goes down.
I dislike players like Cody Journell. I don't hate him but there is an intense dislike there.
The Greater Internet Fuckwad theory sums it up nicely:
From 2004 but still so true
Gargle, gurgle, gaggle, that Pitt game. Motley got no help from the play calling. He was basically used as cannon fodder for the Pitt defensive line. Whatever transpires, Motley is a Hokie and deserves great respect.
And that was the only game I could make it to last year...
He ded.
Rekt
Liek so rekt
With no regard for chins-shaped-like-cones life!!
Here comes the Roflcopter to whisk jerrytime21 off to the hospital!

James Gayle.. back at it again with the epic roast.
Love Gayle's social media presence.
Speaking of trash talkers, can anyone make/find a gif of Antone Exum almost fighting the entire UVA football team as they went to the locker room one of his years? 2011 or 2012 I assume.
Everyone acts like a tough guy on the Internet.
James Gayle is actually a tough guy.
Fake tough guys lose.
Remember that 3rd quarter he had against Duke in 2012? That was one of the most dominant quarters I have ever seen from a VT defensive end. He just straight sucked the soul of each and every one of the Duke offensive lineman.
Haha! It was me! Coincidentally enough you didn't post the part where I responded and Gayle and I laughed at each other... But it's cool thanks for making me infamous for a day. Appreciate all the hate!
Your potato head response was quite funny.
Maybe apologizing to Brenden would come off better than sucking up to James
James was a great college player, plain an simple. Not going to apologize for stating Motley isn't. Nor was I sucking up to James. Generally I don't suck up to people by making comments about their personal appearance.
Ha! Love that you signed up, good look. Doesn't matter if you like Motley, as long as you like pie more than cake and think Mark Leal is our best option moving forward, you'll fit in well here.
Watch out for Mr. Sarcastic here... I mean seriously, pie better than cake? What a funny guy.
I've ordered from here, and trolled the site quite often, just never signed up. The only reason I did today is one of my good friends notified me that I shouldn't have "Twitter" wars with James Gayle. Even thought it was clearly Instagram.(Thanks Cameron) Then showed me that my comments with Gayle were on here. I'm not going to hide because people may not like my comments, nor me voicing my freedom of speech. It's not in my nature to run and hide.
Hooray, the freedom of speech argument came out!
Just don't come on here and bash anybody. That's against the Community Guidelines. You want to talk some intelligent football? Let's do it. But leave the player-bashing elsewhere.
I made the comment on Instagram not on here for a reason. Someone else felt it necessary to post it to try and upstage an unknown person.
Love the comic.
I was actually highlighting James Gayle. He upstaged you. I thought what he said was funny.
I understand that, I was making a point to freedom of speech comic guy that I didn't get on here and bash anyone. What I said was said on Instagram, someone else posted what I posted on another social media elsewhere. I found the whole exchange funny personally.

Just for your own sanity.
Ironically enough, based on the few posts you've made on TKP, you don't seem like the type of person who'd call a player a bum on Tech's Instagram.
Welcome to the community.
Thanks Joe. Go Hokies, but I doubt I will be visiting again soon other than to poke around. See my below post, :)
Sure.

You'll see. You'll be back.
I think Guitarman is more trying to say "hey, check out our guidelines" in a softer way than most. Whenever someone uses the "I have freedom of speech" argument they 9/10 turn into someone who spews wild claim and vitriol at teenagers over a sport that we are supporters of.
Behavior is rarely isolated to one instance. You were talking shit on IG and got called on it by Gayle. That should be the end of the story. You kept on and took a shot at Gayle. That's strike two. You went on to say you played at App State to give yourself credibility. No one is worried. You came here. You can say your buddy texted you but no one was going to go any deeper into what you said until you showed up making it about you. We were discussing that this kind of keyboard warrior hate is completely unnecessary in a fan base. Do you think Fuente is going to read that comment and go "Oh my god, get different pictures on Instagram, stat!"
In the spirit of March Madness, I will offer you a parallel. You just got posterized by James Gayle. He Deron Washington'd you. No one cares who the guy who got posterized was. They want to see the dunk. Laugh it off and move on, have some humble pie since you are so fond of pie (dirty team pie lovers), but please don't come in posturing for an internet fight.
You know me so well.
I love you almost as much as I love beer.
It says "FailGif.com" in the upper left corner, but that is a SucceedGif if I have ever seen one.
I'm sorry ColdBlood! I had one job. Forgive please.
This whole gif interchange:
Not sure how I came on here posturing for an "Internet Fight." I cam one here(which I have many times before to shop and look around)because I received a text from a friend that I was on here this AM. You can believe me or you can't, doesn't really hurt my feelings. Then I proceeded to own up to the fact that it was me, because I found the exchange(including Gayle's and my comments to each)hilarious and still do. I responded to a few comments that basically questioned my Integrity, and that was about it. So I don't get where the blind assumptions that I am some rabid neanderthal looking for attention and a fight on the internet. You don't even know me... Anyways, that's it from me. We are in Lot 8 on Gameday, and either sit in Section 6 or Section 7 so please feel free to stop by and meet the jackass who knows nothing about football, and thinks Brendan Motley's skill level is not up to FBS par.
Cool, bye. Sorry, from what you've posted on here you seem like an okay guy but calling a collegiate athlete a bum, in this situation anyway, is petty at best. So I'd assume that's where the questions of your integrity come from and, frankly, deservedly so.
To see a collegiate athlete deserving of "bum" see Journell, Cody. To see a player who does his best when thrust into the starting role see Motley, Brendan. I don't think Motley is the best QB on the roster, I don't think he'll be starting for us this year, but I would never *ever* call him a bum. To me (and clearly to a number of other people here) that is flat out wrong. So, again, goodbye.
Props for coming on and owning up to it.
Wonder why no one has asked you the obvious yet. Which is, why call Motley a bum at all?
I get the "we are fans" not diplomats argument and people have been calling sports figures "bums" for a LONG time. But is there really something you are wanting to gain from that? Or are you just trolling?
There have been people in sports that I have and still call out: Paul Johnson, Marcus Vick for example
But seriously what has Motley ever done that warrants the opinion you have of him? serious question. Just wondering if you have serious answer other than wanting people on instagram to talk about something you said.
Well I didn't think it would get this out of hand if that's what you are wondering. Still shocked I am the topic of conversation. See my response above to NerdMagic.
Read the comment and I agree. you came on and owned up to it. As I said, props dude.
But still wondering if there is a legitimate reason or not. Believing Motley is not FBS level is one thing, calling a guy giving all he can for the team he plays for a bum, another.
no worries man. Sometimes people just want to keep harping on something and you just have to let them have the last word and walk away. End of the day, what some random guy on the internet thinks of you has zero bearing on, well, anything. Just ask Motley ;-P
Thanks for coming and be sure to grab a bottle opener/keychain on the way out.
I don't have enough legs or drumsticks or whatever to upvote, so I will just do this. PROPS, and I see what you did there. Okay, Exiting stage right now.
DRUMSTICKS!!!! Who do you think this is, KFC!!!

Certainly fair, and you did nothing to ask to be called out here. I'm largely using this opportunity to (1) post one of my favorite comics in a 100% relevant situation and (2) remind everyone what's expected around here. We have a long offseason ahead of us. I will say, though, that if you double down on picking on players,
Welcome. Hope to have some good discussions.
Unless that player's name is Marcus Vick. Worst ever waste of talent in the history of Hokiedom. Ever.
oh yeah!?... well... sometimes he is funny on twitter! ...but mostly not.
Oh and just for the record I like pie more than cake. So I concur sir.
Sorry, I was test running my TKP bottle opener last night and had enough trouble posting one picture. Went back and did some investigation. At the end of the day you are still trashing a college player. I disagree with you but enjoy TKP and have a leg.
Darius Redman has a point. Joking with Gayle doesn't erase being a dick about Motley. Since McGlock commented, it can be inferred that other current players read this stuff. What exactly does one get from shitting on current players that are putting in the hard work for VT?
Hence why I get so frustrated when people dump on the kid rather than analyze technique and success. When I am critical of one of the player's execution, THE BEST POSSIBLE thing that could happen is that the kid plays awesome and proves me wrong. Some folks seem like they would rather have these kids fail just to validate their opinion rather than being critical of mistakes and rooting for them to improve.
Also, folks like Jerry are going to be real disappointed when, yes, I said when Motley wins the first string spot this spring.
I need to edit the type on this later but you heard it from the prophet.
Evans, Lawson, and Motley all seem to have current and former teammates posturing each as the starter based on social media. I am really excited to see how it plays out.
Just keep in mind that hating on a VT player is not a part of loving VT football. And never forget that recruits often follow current/former Tech players on social media. If I'm a recruit thinking about VT and watching VT fans publicly dump on VT players, I might think twice about coming to VT. I know it happens everywhere, but it still leaves a negative impression in the minds of others while accomplishing nothing of actual value.
Just my 2 cents, welcome to TKP and have a leg.
Do you feel like more of a man for picking on a college kid, one who does all the right stuff and works his tail off, over Instagram?
Get James on the staff please
As much as our social media has improved in the past 18 months or so, it would be exponentially better if James were hired by VT. I can't imagine that twitter war he and Harbaugh would inevitably have.
Never forget
Fact, there is no better way to begin this sentence.
