Student Ticket System

Sorry I've been away from posting for so long, but I saw this topic come up in some other posts and I thought it better to have it's own place for discussion so here it goes.

My proposal to the lottery solution is below. It admittedly has some flaws but you guys will get the general idea.

You come in as a Freshman with zero points. For every VT athletic event you go to, they scan your Hokie Passport. This happens EVERYWHERE, so if you go to a volleyball game, great, have a point. Same for wrestling, baseball, soccer, etc. You must also have your Hokie Passport scanned as you leave each event, if you dont do this, then you get no points.

In order to gain points, you must stay at non-profit events (everything but Football and Mens B-Ball) for at least an hour. If you leave before that, then again, no points. But if you do stay and get scanned on your way out, then plus one for you.

Now when it comes to Football and Mens B-Ball it gets a bit different. Since tickets to those games are usually in high-demand the point system should be done a bit differently.

You still get a point for coming to the game, but you have to stay the whole time (or at least until sometime in the 4th quarter/second half when the game is clearly decided). If you leave before that point then you would lose points. The number of points you lose should be based on however high the demand is for the games. For sold out, big time games it should be like -5 or something.

The more points you have, the better chances you have in lottery scenarios, and everyone should be in the lottery, no matter what class standing you have at VT.

So say they are handing out 10,000 student tickets to a football game, the top 10,000 students point wise automatically get a ticket. If there is a tie breaker needed, then just do a random lottery for those few remaining tickets. Theoretically, Seniors would have better chances than Freshman because they have had more opportunities to score points.

Not only would this process get dedicated students in Lane and keep the wanna-be fans out, it would encourage attendance at other athletics events and since the Hokie Passport is used, it might keep sleaze balls from selling a free ticket for $50+ bucks to make a profit. If people win a ticket but dont want to use it, they just simply let VT know and they redistribute it.

What do you guys think? I think the only way this changes is if enough people do make a point to do something about it.
