Lauded Hillsborough HS (Tampa, FL) quarterback Dwayne Lawson will transfer from Virginia Tech. The 6-6, 231 pound signal caller is set to enroll at Hutchinson Community College in Kansas upon completion of his summer coursework.
"Our coaches and staff at Virginia Tech invested significant effort in providing Dwayne the support and resources to be successful as a both a student and an athlete, as did Coach Beamer and his staff," Hokies' head coach Justin Fuente said in a release. "After conversation with Dwayne, he felt leaving our football program would be in his best interest. We wish Dwayne the best at Hutchinson Community College."
Lawson logged 36 snaps at quarterback during his freshman campaign; the bulk of his playing time in 2015 occurred against I-AA Furman. The former 4-star recruit was on the outside looking in at the Hokies' two-man quarterback competition between Brenden Motley and Jerod Evans.
Lawson was granted his release a day after participating in Virginia Tech's opening practice of the 2016 football season. The Daily Press reported Lawson would have faced a suspension due to multiple drug tests failures during his tenure at Virginia Tech.
The Hokies begun bolstering their quarterback depth before the departure of the one-time future of the program. Virginia Tech added 2016 early enrollee Josh Jackson, and gained verbal committments from quarterbacks in the 2017 and '18 recruiting classes, Hendon Hooker, and DeJuan Ellis, respectively.

Best of luck, Dwayne. May you someday make a team we never play against very happy and find success in the NFL.
Dwayne through Spring Practice:
Dwayne after Day 1 of Fall Practice - I swear, I Googled "alone on the sideline", and this was a top result
All that said, he's got a ton of talent. Hope he's able to put it together wherever he ends up down the line.
I would love to hear, and hate to know the existence of, the story behind that image.
Wow. Forensic level photography Alum, where'd you get that?
Post removed.
EDIT: I apologize for not reading the other thread on this news, and once I saw it and started reading, it became obvious that these issues were covered and my post is superfluous. I will therefore remove my post, but leave the edit to remind me to read more and talk less.
Hutchinson CC is in the JCCC. That is a top notch junior college football conference. He will be challenged and he will get to play and position himself for consideration by another P5 program. The SEC and Big12 recruit from the JCCC often.
Shocked, I tell you, shocked!!! /s
Seems a shame that VT didn't get to take advantage of his talent, but that's the way the cookie crumbles sometimes.
I hope he is better able to take advantage of another opportunity, as long as it isn't in the ACC.
I wonder if ECU needs a QB.
I downvoted you out of pure instinct. Then realized it was supposed to be a joke and I reset it. My bad, Jeep.
Ha, my bad. Thought it was a pretty obvious "sometimes the ACC isn't far enough" line. :)
that feeling you get when someone starts dating the girl you broke up with....
I won't really get that until he plays for another FBS team.
Unfortunate that he couldn't excel in Blacksburg. However, as everyone has pointed out we have plenty of talent there now and hopefully in the future as well. His absence should help give some reps to the other QBs which this early in fall camp could help with development and progression.
Apparently theres rumors he was going to suspended for failed drug tests. Dont know the legitimacy of it but saw it on twitter.
It's as if you did not read the post.
He was going to read the post but then he got high.
This may sound callous, but that ^ makes me much less sad that he's heading out.
I've seen this comment twice, and I don't get it.
The opposite for me. Love you papilgee. Hear me out
Bobby Bowden took in so many guys who needed life-level leadership and created a lot of success where there were few other avenues for a stable life.
In Dwayne's case, Virginia Tech was unable to do the same.
From a team/reputation perspective, I think this is the best choice.
But dammit if I would hope our school would be able to bridge that gap.
Have a leg, HOAT.
On my end, I spent 5 of the last 6 years in SEC country wondering how in the world players from the conference were able to play and be stars despite multiple infractions that only netted them slaps on wrists.
You mention Bobby Bowden, I recall Peter Warrick's plea deal that allowed him to torch us.
Now, Lawson didn't do high-profile dumb things like our former kicker whose initials are C and J, but it just goes to prove that some players don't wanna be reached.
This has been Lawson's downfall. He never gave College football his full effort , sad but true. Lucky he wasn't gone before Fuente got here. Good Luck and I hope he gets things on the right track.
Makes sense why I didn't see him in the snapchat vids. I was sold on this dude coming out of HS, but oddly not too worried about this. Nothing but the best to him. Hope he finds his way.
Did someone else get his number I thought I saw him yesterday briefly? Was I wrong again?
If he was #2, there was a shot of an incomplete pass that I remember. Actually the only incomplete pass.
For the day 2 video, I'm only seeing 4,9,11,17. Day one he's there, so this happened pretty quick.
Remember when he committed and people said he'd be gone to the nfl in 3 years?
TKP needs a comment of the day.
If only the person in charge would think of that...
Hate to be that guy, but attributed to hokierick:

C'mon man, we all make mistakes
I have to agree that the amount of schadenfreude going on over Lawson gets to be a bit much sometimes. We're all passionate about the topics discussed here. No need to rub it in other people's faces when they're wrong.
Josh Jacksons that good huh?
Lawson has been outplayed by everybody this spring. I think Jack Glick (sp?) the walk on QB outplayed him.
It's hard to perform when you are busy sleeping in and missing work outs.
That's enough. The guy is transferring. No need to treat him like crap, let's move on. Hey hear about that capehart fella?
I live in Ocean Lakes Va Beach and was at Buffalo Wild Wings and talked to a manager there and she said she was a teacher at the school as well and told me about Capehart about a year ago along with Nnadi, Taylor, Lewis, Simmons, Crosby, Hubbard, and Laborn and how much talent the coach had brought there before he decided to leave, some kids lived in the district obviously others were recruited but she said all of them worked hard in the weight room and tracked their progress, were well mannered in the class room and worked hard to make good grades. Any kid we don't get from that school it hurts because those are kids that carry programs, won a state championship together and you don't have to worry about getting into trouble, not working hard, bad grades or whatever. I don't know if she knew Jahque Alleyne, I didn't know how to pronounce his name so she wasn't sure haha however with my VT stuff on at Farm Fresh some young kid was ringing me and my wife up in line and mentioned his friend went to VT and played either WR or Safety and it took me a second before it registered he said "Jahque Alleyne" and I assume it was pronounced right it sounded like "Jackway Ahleen". I haven't heard it said that way since.
It'll be interesting how his career plays out. He seems really talented but
there was so little game action from him you couldn't really get a good feel
for it..
It was definitely exciting seeing him get in the game against Furman last season.
Had high hopes for him.
Well, a lot of players don't succeed at their initial stops, case in point Brett Favre in Atlanta or Cam Newton at Florida, so a change in scenery may be the wake up call the doctor ordered for Lawson. I hope he gets his life in order and goes on to have a successful career, as long as he's doing it against other teams and not us.
However, as an Orioles fan, I just hope he doesn't become the Hokies version of Jake Arrieta.
Even if he does become Jake Arrieta down the line, he wasnt going to become Jake Arrieta here in all likelihood so it shouldnt really matter.
Just like Stephen Curry probably wouldnt have been what he is now at Tech if he had come here. Our coaches back then likely would have found a way to ruin his game one way or another.
As a Cubs fan, thanks for Arrieta, and Strop.
Also, during my first trip to Camden Yards they were giving out free Arrieta shirts, and fans were talking shit about him all day, partially because he was injured at that point. I enjoy wearing that shirt, especially with a Cubs hat.
How would The U had handled this?
With boats and...aw man, what went with boats...
Gifts to players from donors?
Sounds right. Can't put my finger
inon it.MORE BOATS
That reminds me to look for a new fishing boat on Craigslist.
Is this it?
Dwayne Lawson to Illinois. Nice pick up for Lovie Smith.
Wait, he transferred?!? /s
Crap! There is no way Drew Harris is coming now.
Or Josh Stanford.
How did he do at JC?
http://www.gobroncbusters.com/sports/fball/2016-17/players/dwaynelawsonr...
22/41 with 2 TD's and 4 INTs mmm
Odd stats for a TE...
Fine...take the leg.
So wait - he ended up at Garden City CC? I'm so confused?
Good for him. I hope he finds success.
Apparently Donovan Riley is also transferring to Illinois.

You confused the heck outta me with that for a minute
probably from the same guys that put this together:

I still laugh every time I see that.
*Andrew Ford* is actually playing D1 ball - and starting. Granted it's for UMASS, but he was really the only shred of hope they had this season in an otherwise abysmal 2-10 season.
He didn't start until the second or third game, but frankly he probably played well enough to be their starting quarterback for the next 2 years.
...and finished #6 in most interceptions!
Yes, that is true. Behind Deshaun Watson if you'd believe it!
UMass has some glimmer of hope between both Ford and their starting running back going into their junior years, so 2 left to play. Tough schedule again next season as they live in conference limbo.
I'm glad he landed on his feet, but I believed from moment I saw his HS tape that his ceiling was a starter at an avg mid-major program.
I couldn't believe the folks who honestly and vehemently believed he could be the starting QB at VT as a true frosh.
Yall threw me off with this popping back up. I thought football season was about to start, again.
