Clarke's return is uncertain, but ahead of schedule.

I caught some updates on Chris Clarke from media day. It sounds positive, then it does not.

Clarke's status still uncertain as Hokies move forward without key pieces

"It's killing me," Clarke said. "I'm trying to be patient. Honestly, I don't know if I'll play, or when I'll play, but I'm just trying to be patient."

Williams was slightly more optimistic about Clarke's prognosis, saying "I think it's close" in regards to whether he'll be back for the opener. Williams said Clarke recently had some "biomechanical engineering"-based tests performed on his knee to get a definitive look at how far along he is with his rehab, but the results of the tests haven't been returned.

"That's not a recuperation or a rehab that you want to rush," said Williams, who added Clarke is two-to-three weeks ahead of schedule in his rehab. "Normally, the people that rush it, good things don't transpire from the rush. Like I have with (Blackshear), Ahmed, I'm just overprotective of those guys. I coach them hard enough, so I want to make sure that they're completely ready.

"(Clarke will) be our best rebounder, just like he was before he got hurt. I don't know if he was our best rebounder when he came back from his foot as a freshman. He may have been in the times that he played, but we need him."

I'm so not in Buzzketball mode right now. I thought this was an update on James Clark.

If you play it, they will win.

saw some stuff streamed on IG of Clarke up and moving around his rehab and he looks like he would be ready for normal human activity; however, he is so explosive on the court that I can see why he may be a month or two out.

I am not sure what to do with my hands now

A month or 2 is not a big deal considering how weak the OOC schedule is... as long as he is 100% by the middle of December then I think he plays this year.

Good point.

Now, #Hokies wing Chris Clarke said he isn't sure if he'll be able to get back this season or not. Added he's not opposed to redshirting.

Now finish up them taters; I'm gonna go fondle my sweaters.

There's a big difference between "It'll be close whether he's back for the opener" and "isn't sure if he'll be able to get back this season or not. Added he's not opposed to redshirting."

Are they looking at different medical/rehabilitation reports?

It could be a mental thing. Sometimes it takes longer for the player to have confidence that his knee is sound than it does for the knee to actually be back to full strength.

I would rather he redshirt and learn a jump shot than hurry back and still have no jump shot.

I can't say I agree with the redshirt part...but I can't say I disagree with the jump shot part either. Can't I just have it both ways?

You don't learn jump shots at 20 years old unfortunately.

Always choose joy.

Sorry but that's just false.

His decision was made after a phone call with longtime Virginia Tech assistant coach Bud Foster. All Foster told him was, "We win. They don't."

I'm glad to hear his rehab is going well, but I still kind of hope Buzz sits him for at least the first month or two of the season so there can be a steady build up in his participation level in practice - allowing his knee to keep getting stronger and also just getting back in overall playing shape.

Even if his knee is completely healed at season tipoff, I think we all need to remember he missed a lot of conditioning and basketball drills by being limited during the preseason. Trying to play at 100% when you're only @ a 90% fitness level can lead to another injury or re-injury.

Anyone else find it confusing that he is ahead of schedule...but they don't know the schedule?

Kinda like the sky's the long as we stay grounded.

They must've consulted MJ.

Chris is playing pick up basketball in McComas literally every night. I see him every time I'm there. I'm thinking he'll be just fine come conference play time.

Of course I talk to myself, sometimes I need expert advice.

Tell him to stop! McComas is a graveyard of ACLs.
