FSU to Bowl?

Ok, am I looking at this right?

FSU has 2 wins and a postponement.
They have a total of 5 games remaining including the postponement. Of these they play Syracuse, Miami and Clemson but must win 4 of these 5 to go bowling.

It's not looking good.

Amiright? What am I missing here?

Have they actually rescheduled the cancelled game?

If I am understanding this correctly, there is a game that was cancelled, the game with Miami was postponed but not yet rescheduled.

This is going to be great for the ACC.

Yeah, they did.

So I think they're not going to continue their unrecognized streak.

This is going to be great for the ACC.

Pretty sure he meant the gators, who are just as horrible this year. That game will be the battle for the 4th best team in the state at the rate things are going...

I can imagine no more rewarding a career. And any man who may be asked in this century what he did to make his life worthwhile, I think can respond with a good deal of pride and satisfaction:

Don't forget about Kiffins FAU and Butch's Golden Panthers

FSU lost to Miami on basically a miracle pass with 6 sec left. It was the beginning of Miami's 4 straight P5 W's by 1 score, each.

Don't give up on your dreams.

There were talks a few weeks ago of rescheduling the ULM game that was canceled for the first weekend of December, since they won't be in the ACCCG. They might be waiting a couple more weeks to see if it actually matters.

Does ULM get a say in all this? That's probably around a quarter-mil payday for them, no?

the numbers don’t lie and they spell disaster

I'm confident they would work to make it happen.

The talk really increased when FSU realized their was a good chance of not getting to 6 wins without that game...

They already played (and lost to) Miami. ULM game was canceled, so they have 4 games left: Syracuse, Clemson, Delaware State, and Florida, and they need to win all 4 to go bowling.

They may be able to go bowling if they are 5-6, but their APR isn't very good, so I'm guessing they need 6-5 to go bowling.

I'm not even sure that any of this matters. They have to get to 5 wins first, and that isn't anywhere close to a given at the moment... lol!

From article: "FSU, Miami, and USF are going to win six games at least."

I'm not 100% positive on this, since there is nothing in the bowl selection rules specifically about 5-6 teams (since it's not a normal scenario), but my guess is a 5-6 team would get priority over 5-7 teams, making APR a moot point. The rules are explicit that 6-7 teams get priority over 5-7 teams, so this seems similar.

Nothing against FSU, but I'm kinda rooting for them to miss a bowl.

#removetheasterisk

I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me.

Everything against FSU, I'm definitely rooting for them to miss a bowl.

Arkansas blew a 24-0 lead in the Belk Bowl.

But why though?

Free Hugh

1. To legitimize our bowl streak
2. To keep them from preying on our recruits. We've lost countless recruiting battles against them. Them missing a bowl would give us at least a slight boost over them in that regard.
3. It's FSU.

EDIT: oops I see why you might have been confused haha

See, I'm torn here. I agree with all your points, but we do open against them next year, and it would obviously be better for our SoS if they were able to regain even a little legitimacy before the season is over. Otherwise, what looked like another great opening day for us next year will lose a lot of it's shine.

It's FSU. They'll get the standard preseason top 25 ranking at a minimum for getting Francois back. Plus, we have Notre Dame next year.

ESPN's bowl projections doesn't include FSU. I don't see them beating Clemson (yeah, that's a given) or UF and will likely lose to the Cuse this weekend. Against BC, it looked like the team quit or simply didn't care. If Syracuse puts an early score on them to take the lead, they may just fold up shop. Even if they don't losing vs CU and UF mean no bowl.

UF is now being coached by Randy Shannon. FSU has never lost to a Randy Shannon coached team I believe.

We've had some discussions about FSU's bowl situation in this thread: http://www.thekeyplay.com/content/2017/october/13/ask-tkp-where-does-eve...

And in part of this thread: http://www.thekeyplay.com/comment/606457#comment-606457

I'll pull my part of that discussion into this thread, because it kind of got buried in the week 9 other games thread.

I'll quote from an SBNation article, because it reads easier than the official NCAA language:

Barring any legislative changes, that'd be through the usual path for alternates. If there aren't enough 6-6 teams, the NCAA looks to teams from these groups:

1. Teams that couldn't count an FCS win because of a weird scholarship thing, if they're otherwise eligible
2. Teams that played 13 regular season games and went 6-7
3. Teams in their second year of FBS reclassification, if they're .500 or better (only Coastal Carolina could be in this group this year)
4. Five-win teams with the highest Academic Progress Report scores

The NCAA Postseason Bowl Handbook (link is a PDF) specifically spells out that last part as

An institution that finished its season with a minimum of five wins and a maximum of seven losses and achieves a multiyear football APR score that permits participation in the postseason

The way I read it, a 5-6 team is treated like a 5-7 team, and does not automatically get put at the top of the list, unless the NCAA grants a special waiver.

However, if a team only plays 10 games and goes 5-5, they might be eligible, because the strict definition of bowl eligibility is that a team wins as many (or more) games against FBS teams as it loses.

Watching what UNC and FSU are going through this season is just another reason to be a happy Hokie.

We haven't had a losing season since 1992 (2-8-1)!

"Take care of the little things and the big things will come."

So I thought this was pretty amusing. On ESPN's ACC Power Rankings they mentioned this little statistic from FSU's matchup against BC...

On the field Friday, Florida State played 32 four- or five-star recruits. Boston College played two. So for all the problems FSU has, there's just no excuse for a team with that big of a talent edge to get blown out. What a mess in Tallahassee.

Holy inexcusable underachieving Batman.

Using /s is for cowards.

I'm still pissed.

It just feels great to watch them struggle, even with a plethora of talent. At the start of the season, all anybody could talk about was how good that defense would be. They had 5 guys, all on the defensive side of the ball that were top 60 projected picks in next years draft. This includes Sweat and Nnadi from VA, two big misses for us.

5 guys on one side of the ball!...That just got crapped on by a Scot Loeffler run offense that features a freshmen at QB and RB.

Sidenote: BC has put up 30+ in 3 straight weeks since a dominate showing by the Hokies D in Chestnut Hill. Looking like Addazio and Loeffler will be back next year.

Kind of happy for BC, Addazio, and Loeffler. I have nothing against BC except when they beat us. Kind of a no nonsense program.

FSU to the toilet bowl is steaming full speed ahead.

I think Jimbo is a good coach, but I don't think he's a great leader/motivator. I know a lot of people think Jameis was a clown, but he was the heart, soul and was the leader for those FSU teams.

Jimbo can keep a healthy ship running, but when a storm comes he doesn't know what to do and loses the team as a result. That's the big difference for me between him and Dabo. Both are great recruiters and proven head coaches, but Dabo is also a great leader who knows how to push through adversity. Can't really say the same about Jimbo.

In Sam Rogers we trust.

Bigger difference between Jimbo and Dabo is the offense that is run. 1 is easier for a QB to learn and one has to learn spread/power/option etc etc. Jimbo's arrogance with not wanting to go fully spread is what's killing this team. Not many QB's like Jameis in the college football world.

I'm not even sure he's a good coach.

He's a great recruiter.

I've questioned a fair few of his offensive play-calls. He's always reminded me of Loeffler, but a better recruiter. He puts a man-size load on all the O guys, and just over recruits, and recruits highly at that, to find enough talent to work.

TKPC #666 ...man that was long wait...

Said it before they are going to need it to try and qualify for a bowl.

Hey'll still lose it.
They're better off not playing it.

This is going to be great for the ACC.

Cuse, Clemson and UF are in their last 4 (possibly 5). Regardless of whether they add the ULM game, 2 losses among those 3 and they don't go bowling. They won't beat Clemson. Cuse is 50:50.

We may get to FSU @ UF (who have 4 losses of their own) with both needing the W to go bowling. I don't think they beat UF, especially under those conditions.

Don't give up on your dreams.

What do we really expect out of UF from this point? Their offense was already a dumpster fire and then they canned McElwain in a messy and public manner. I'd have as much faith in FSU at this point.

Joffrey, Cersei, Ilyn Payne, the Hound, Jeff Jagodzinski, Paul Johnson, Pat Narduzzi.

How many times have we seen teams rally around interim coaches? Larry Scott was 4-2 when he took over, Clay Helton went 6-2, Ed Orgeron had success. You never really know.

Did you see FSU play BC? That team didn't care that they got their asses kicked up and down the field all night. At least UF has shown some pride and will to win, even if they didn't get it done. Yeah UF got blown out, but it was by a legitimately good team that was on a mission (the seniors on UGA had NEVER been on the winning side vs UF after 3 straight losses). I'll take UF, especially at home.
