If it comes down to VT and Notre Dame both with 9-3 records, they will get the nod for the better game. They screwed us before and they certainly are going to do it again. I hate Notre Dame, and screw Rudy (He was offsides anyway!)

Actually, we would have had to beat Georgia Tech AND either Miami or Clemson to not get screwed by Notre Dame. That or Miami should have beaten Pitt.
Notre Dame can't be selected over an ACC team for the Orange Bowl, nor can they be selected over an ACC team that has two or more wins than they do. That means either the Irish needed to finish 7-5 or VT needed to finish 11-1.

Personally, if the money is all the same, I hope VT ends up in Charlotte or Nashville. I would love to take the family to the game.
Aren't you in NoVa? It's almost as far to Nashville as it is to Jacksonville. And NYC is much closer than any of them.
When's the last time you had a good reason to go to Nashville??
About 6 months ago actually. I found Nashville has become a surprisingly hip town with lots of night life and really good restaurants. I've been to a bunch of bowls - and Nashville may not quite be New Orleans but it would be a very good bowl destination.
And did I mention bachelorette parties everywhere? If I saw 1, I saw at least a hundred in a weekend.

Broadway is awesome
I enjoy going to Broadway, but I can see how some would rather stay away. Yes, there are the stereotypical "honky tonk" bars, but there's always a few with live music that isn't necessarily going to have performers playing country music - just depends on the performer. Also, pretty much all of them will take requests. If a song was popular enough to be played on the radio in any era, there's a good chance they'll be able to play it. I'm always astounded at the range of those people playing in bars on Broadway. Good news is there are no cover charges, so if you don't like the music in one place, you can leave and go to the next.
As I said a little further down though, there are plenty of places within a 10 minute drive of downtown Nashville with great restaurants and nightlife if someone would rather avoid Broadway.
I honestly don't see the draw of visiting Nashville to stay on the outskirts, but to each their own.
Nashville's legit. Some great food, music everywhere (probably only a plus if you're at least somewhat into country), cowboy boot stores on every block if you're into that, good nightlife, country music hall of fame is pretty cool (again, being into country music is a plus here). I've been there once with the fiancee and it was a really good time. Would recommend.
Been twice this year, since my little sister lives there.
As marcb2 and TechHokie13 said, it's a great destination. For those who've never been, I'd highly recommend it. All the touristy stuff right in the heart of downtown is pretty fun, but there's lots of other places within 10-15 minutes of downtown in the Nashville metro area that have really taken off - areas like The Gulch, 12 South, and Edgehill (which might have one of the coolest bars I've ever seen - Old Glory, which is a converted laundry warehouse).
I stand corrected. It wasn't all that great when I was there for college in '05. I'm also not a big country fan so it kind of limits the 'tourist sites' that you wanna check out. Driving by the Grand Ole Opry to school was good enough for me to say I've seen it. (Once again not a big country fan).
That's cool that there's more to do in Nashville now but I'm 20 mins away from Charlotte so why can't we make a trip to Charlotte once a year, if not the ACCCG then maybe the belk bowl. (I know, I know we were in the belk bowl last year but the ACCCG should have been in Charlotte and then we wouldn't have gone to the belk bowl and then we could be in it this year. Damn you Swofford!
When is the last time you needed a good reason to go to Nashville? It sounds like you have never been because you would know the glory that is Nashvegas. All the fun of Vegas, but with college town drink prices. They have really stepped up their restaurant game in the last couple of years as well. I will add that I am not a country music fan at all, but I am a live music fan, and they have it is spades.
Nashvegas?? They allow gambling there now?? When I was there they brought a tactical assault vehicle to take down an illegal casino in a store backroom across the street from campus.
They do not have legal gambling, but Broadway might as well be the Vegas strip with all the bars/clubs and bachelorette parties as someone else mentioned.
+1 (sorta). I want to go to a fun location. Nashville and NYC are both easy to get to, and fun places to spend a weekend. Way better than Jacksonville or Orlando.
There's no way that Nashville is better than Orlando. Theme parks galore, infinitely better winter weather, cheaper flights and hotels due to the demand for the mouse.
I went to the Russell Athletic Bowl and I remember the "infinitely better" weather. And the lovely weather for the Orange Bowl vs Kansas. Florida is no guarantee of decent weather in late Dec.
Nashville is definitely better than Orlando IMO - but I suspect my idea of fun and your idea of fun might be quite different. Not to mention Orlando is packed with snowbird tourists during the holiday week.
Ok. But saying the weather isn't way more likely to be better in Orlando than Nashville is disingenuous. I can drink just as much in Orlando as in Nashville, but with better public transit and less annoying country music. But if that's your thing, that's cool.
There's plenty to do and eat in Nashville and never have to hear a note of country music. And public transit? Huh? Assuming you can't walk to everything from your hotel in Nashville, they have this thing called Uber now.
Nashville has way more culture, better food and is a way better party city - it helps that the stadium is right next to downtown, so you once you get downtown, you can walk to all of the bars, and then to the stadium without ever using a car. It's basically a watered down New Orleans (which is the best major city venue for a sporting event that I have ever been to). I also hate theme parks, and Nashville is driving distance from home base in Atlanta.
Country music is not the kind of "more" I want my culture but to each their own.
What is it with you and country music? Sure, it's still a draw, but Nashville has become a young, hip town with lots of real good restaurants and nightlife that have nothing to do with country music. Orlando is just...Orlando.
Country music sucks man, its the worst, and it was virtually unavoidable anytime I have been to Nashville. Maybe that's changed in the past couple of years, but I doubt it.
Plus, and back to the original argument, for a game in late December... weather matters. Orlando > Nashville.
Go to Nashville, just don't go to Broadway. If you're looking for an interesting bar that has nothing to do with country music, there are plenty of them. You just haven't been looking apparently. I recommended one earlier in the thread - Old Glory, which isn't too far from Vandy's campus.
As marc has mentioned, there are plenty of places in Nashville that have nothing to do with country music, so your insistence on that despite being told otherwise is a little ridiculous.
Ok... but having to go out of the way to avoid something doesn't exactly make me want to go there again and definitely doesn't make it jump Orlando.

What? The heart of Broadway is one street, literally two blocks long... four if you want to be generous. It's actually easy to avoid, I'd say.
Your argument here isn't holding up for me. Nashville is a far more compact metro area than Orlando, and you'd have to do far less driving in the Music City. Places like Edgehill, The Gulch, and 12 South are pretty much first-ring suburbs of Nashville. There's excellent BBQ, hot chicken and southern fare all over the area, which is one of the other major reasons people find Nashville to be a better destination than Orlando.
In the end, it certainly comes to personal preference though. As much as you can't stand country music, I don't particularly find theme parks to be all that entertaining at this point in my life. And I have family spread out all over Florida, so I know that December weather is a complete crapshoot from personal experience, even in Miami (anyone remember the Orange Bowl against Kansas? It didn't get above 45 the entire time we were there).
Agreed, its certainly personal preference. To each their own for sure.
However, I feel like I am taking crazy pills when people are using the weather against Florida in December... weather is unpredictable almost anywhere. In Orlando the average high is 73 in December. In Nashville its 53.
No doubt the weather is better in Florida. And when it's good, it's very good. But better isn't often good in late Dec. I've been to Florida over the holidays enough time to know it can be a crap shoot.
But I'd personally rather wear a coat and eat at a nice restaurant and spend time in cool bars and walk from my hotel to the game in Nashville than eat Baby Back Ribs and party at TGIFridays in shorts and try to find an Uber after the game Orlando.
It's likely a moot point because VT's probably not going to Nashville. And Orlando is only a little less likely.
I can avoid country music but you can't avoid TGI Fridays.... *eyeroll*
I left the ACCCG in Orlando and walked to a row of restaurants and clubs bars. I did have to drive to my hotel later that evening true.
I'm pretty sure one could have a great time either place, not that VT will be at either one this year.
All I care about is winning 10 games and having that little number next to our name on SportsCenter. Considering where this season started and how it's gone, that's a pretty darn good way to finish. Whatever bowl gives us the best chance to do that is the one I want.

Easier bowl and a win?
Yep, so I'm not remotely upset with ND (at least for this, plus I was at the Stanford-ND game this year and that was fun). 2017 was always going to be something of a rebuild, at least offensively. A 9-3 regular season is pretty solid, even if the schedule as a whole wasn't as stiff as expected. Perception matters, and the biggest things that will help perception are 10 wins and a final/preseason ranking. I couldn't care less how those things are accomplished.
Please let it be the Belk Bowl. I'd be Ok with the Hokies playing Wake Forest in the Belk Bowl. They could avenge 6-3, and they only play once every 78 years anyway.

P.S. If you are traveling to Charlotte any time soon from the north, avoid I-77 like the plague. Road work has it seriously fucked up from Huntersville all the way to Charlotte proper.

I85 ain't much better from mile 71 to 54 or something like that is construction also. 77 is the worse of the two, I always take 85 and then get off just south of Winston-Salem and work my way over to 220 if I'm headed back to Roanoke.
PS. The 77 construction is to put in toll lanes
I live in Winston Salem. Grew up in Roanoke. I can't decide which is worse, I-40 here or I-81 back home. Best thing done was the 3 lanes through Ironto to Blacksburg.
