I thought some of y'all would find this quote from 4-star OL commit Bryan Hudson's coach Jim McKee interesting. It didn't make Koma's story, but it's insightful with regards to the perception of Virginia Tech football.

IMO I think Bud if a lifer at tech. Sure he'll get his calls and interviews here and there every year but I think he is very content where he is.

They have filled or nearly filled it for a long time.
The school is located in Lexington with a metro population of >500,000. If VT was in like Richmond, I'm sure we could sell out their stadium. Our location holds us back in a lot of ways.
I hear you, and to some extent agree. However, it is located near Roanoke which has a Met Area Pop of over 300k (which is the 4th largest in VA). So, combine that with B'burg & surrounding areas/counties pops, it easily equals (& even exceeds) that of Lexington. Plus, I want to know the attendance figs for us vs UK since we expanded our stadium to over 65k. I bet we easily dwarf theirs.

I meant that the Met Area stats of Roanoke + B'burg + C'burg + Radford + etc is = or > than that of Lexington. But it doesn't matter now, as our stadium, apparently, is (or has been) bigger in seating capacity than UK's for some time.
Radford is 50 miles from Roanoke. Blacksburg is over 40. I would hardly group them as part of a generic 'metro area.' I don't understand how you could legitimately compare Lexington or Richmond to a spattering of towns in SWVA.
I'm not comparing it to Richmond, just Lexington. And so what if it's non-generic. I'm more concerned with the distance the towns/counties are in relation to B'burg, not Roanoke.
Citing Roanoke from Blacksburg is still 40+ miles. The point remains the same. Population within a 40 mile radius from Lexington and a 40 mile radius form Blacksburg aren't even close.
Actually if you include just the pop of Blacksburg & Roanoke met areas combined, it is.

My bad. Yeah, it interpreted Lexington Va instead of Ky. The point still stands that BOTH locations are well over an hour away, whereas Roanoke is well under an hour from the 'burg.
It's not possible to have two towns named the same thing in two different states. It's just not allowed. That coudl never happen.

Vice definitely has that vibe where you could totally spend a day with him fishing and work through a cooler of beer. That's gotta go over really well with a lot of coaches. I'd hope with O-linemen, too.
I like that people who matter are starting to get the same sense of what is building in Blacksburg. For me, it started when QP committed. People are starting to take notice that we are close.
Let's pick up Devyn Ford. Solid class last year...this one could be even better.
I feel like as fans we put way too much emphasis on single recruits at times. I'm hopeful for QP and all but he was actually the 3rd highest rated recruit in this class. Personally I'd guess the two most significant factors for our seemingly improved recruiting are: 1. the coaches have now had a couple years to get established, build relationships, and start evaluating recruits earlier. They also appear to have worked with support staff to develop a cohesive strategy and message to pitch recruits. 2. VT football had gone 29-23 over Beamer's final 4 seasons and rumblings about his retirement were getting harder to ignore. VT has gone 19-8 in the last two years under Fuente and looked competitive against Watson and Clemson in the ACC championship.
Getting the second best Player from the state of Illinois was a statement to me. We all know based on the feedback people have been giving him that it sure seems he should have a higher rating. I definitely agree that the recruiting dynamic has changed for better, but QP was when I noticed other people noticing what Fuente is doing here big picture.

You don't think a transfer JUCO QB in year 1 setting multiple school records or Josh Jackson setting multiple freshman records last year constitutes us as having an offense? I understand there is obviously room for improvement but we have been at least an average to above average offensive team the past couple years with A LOT of young guys playing last year
I agree and disagree with both views. We have a real threat to score on any drive I feel like and I didn't feel like that towards the end of Beamer's tenure. I don't feel like we are nearly consistent enough on offense yet which is where we have some work to do. I do believe this year we will really see more consistency out of the offense though. We have a little more experience with that young talent.
Total yards and points per game since Tyrod graduated in 2011. Is there work to be done, sure. But with the right people (checks recruiting rankings the past couple of years which has also increased), we do/will have an offense. The proof is in the numbers even with a Freshman QB and limited skilled players. Thank god for Cam last year.

Thanks for the numbers. I think the uptick in offensive production for the past 2 years shows that Fuente's system works in the ACC and now he just needs the players that fit his system and to make adjustments off of what didn't work against ACC defenses. You have to realize that he has tape from 2 Clemson games, 1 of those Clemson teams went on to win the NC and we almost pulled a W in that game. The next year we weren't as competitive but we didn't just fold. This upcoming year we have a decent schedule to see how our players have developed.
We are about to enter into the full Fuente player era. We have already seen the small uptick in recruit grades in the past 2 years. I think that the one thing that people start to overlook is that with our offense on the come up, how many of those playmakers on D want to come play for Bud when they know that it isn't just that side of the ball keeping us in a game. I have no clue what the 16-18 year old kids really think about that but I would assume that plays a part in it.
