Hopefully this is a night time rendering because they are pushing for it to happen at night.

all day? this has the makings of an all weekend drunk fest of epic proportions

"We were at the pinnacle, and we did it for years," Foster says. He pauses, nods, takes a deep breath. "And I did it with the best guy in the business."

We should have the same rules as RACE fans and be able to bring our own Beer, can you imagine...

Pour some Beer on it

Oh muh gawd

BA

I'm here for the memes, I just stay for the football.

Turkey leg for Shy Ronnie.

I remember just yesterday thinking to myself, "man, you know what I'd really like? Watching a football game live where the action is a half mile away. That looks like fun." This seems like a really cool idea, I just can't imagine how it'll be pulled off successfully so people can actually see the game.

(warning blatant pandering ahead)

consider MY MIND

Oh Jenna Marbles... +1

Turkey leg for writing out my thoughts...

haha... yes to both of you. Plus I thought with Britney's connection to VT she was relevant as well. Hell, she may even sing the national anthem at the game.

Great.....now I'm dreaming:
NASCAR announces a 2 o'clock sprint race for game ticket holders.
Britney singing the National Anthem, followed by Metallica introducing the Hokies live and in person.
And a halftime show with the Who and all of the NFL cheerleaders.

(shivers....)

I may fly back from China just for this. DAMN

Can I get an infield RV pass?

If they want to make this game the most epic college football spectacle in history, they should rent two blimps with hanging video boards to continuously circle the stadium. That way fans who are half a mile away from the players can still see the action on the field and it'll just be ludicrous to see on TV haha.

Almost just blue myself with excitement.

"You know when the Hokies say 'We are Virginia Tech' they're going to mean it."- Lee Corso

Better bring some 'noculars

Let's Go...

"Breaking news...all available tickets sold out for the game...two years before it's played."

(not an actual quote)

Thanks for the heads up Hokiegirl!

Are we sure they can't run the game at the same time as the Bristol race? Cause that would be doubly awesome.

They said the Bristol race is only two weeks before this game. How are they going to get everything setup
for this game with only two weeks to prepare is my question.

@AMB4VT

well, I am not exactly sure how they plan to do it of course, but I know how I have done it before. Sports fields can be designed on a interconnecting grid system that can be pulled apart and reassembled. The turf is supported on a set of layers that help with drainage and fertilization, etc. So they could conceivably grow the field outside the track until after the race. Tear everything down and then move the field inside.

Yep they have it down to a science in Europe for soccer. They do it very quickly when they need to replace the fields

With Goddammed Magic, Son. Goddammed Magic.

hahaha... Beamer essentially just called Lane Kiffin pussy whipped

On racing Lane on the track:
"I got a call that Lane couldn't do it. That his wife had concerns about his safety. I though that... my wife was encouraging me to drive"

GOLD. PURE GOLD

as awesome as this rendering is, I don't think that's how it will be when all is said and done

First, I don't think they'll put the field in the center because that would leave everybody in each turn 100+ yards away from the field...and that would kind of suck.

The lights are directed at the track and the infield is not generally well lit. I have some concerns about this being a night game. I think it will have to be a day game because, realistically, I don't think they'll be able to get sufficient lighting on the field.

I would imagine they'll have the field all the way to one end of the oval and use one entire turn and the two straights for seating fans. They'll probably put some temporary stands in the middle of the infield to close it all in. I would guess they'll have to leave one turn completely vacant. We'll probably be in the range of 130-140K fans. That way we still get the record.

should still be an awesome game though! I would love for it to be a night game but I don't have high hopes for that

Onward and upward

The buildings shown in the rendering essentially prohibit the field from being anywhere but in the center of the infield. I fully expect all seats to be made available for this game and for Bruton to add at least one, if not two jumbotrons in the turns.

Honestly, I feel like the main reason isn't to be there to watch football but instead to be there because it's fucking crazy and also because Hokies.

I for one am planning on being there because it's fucking crazy and also because Hokies.

He has said many time that he will tear down every building in the infield. They are basically just sheds anyway. Not that big a deal. They will all be gone.

I am willing to bet that the field will be in the center and that the track will have stands on them. No way they leave an empty circle that can be sold out. And they plan to have 180k fans not 140k. This is the only way it can possibly happen.

Regarding lights. They are adjustable and the lights at Bristol are exceedingly bright. Should have no problem at all to keep infield lit all night.

I don't think they would build stands on the track....I think that could damage the surface and that's a no go

Onward and upward

That's a lot of real estate not filled in between field and stands. Plus there is no way they are hitting 180k without it. The dimensions don't add up. Anyway, they build stands that have high durability silicone skid guards on the runners to avoid damage. Easily done.

also the game is after the August race, so Bristol may even be due for a resurfacing before the season starts up again in the spring

good point. And if you look at the rendering it shows zero fans sitting along either sideline. You think they are not going to sell 50 yard line seats for shitloads of money? No fucking way that happens. There will be stands on the track.

From Bitter:

The game will take place only two weeks after the 2016 NASCAR race. Over 400 workers will begin altering the racetrack to be ready in time for the football game.
The turf and field, which will be placed on the infield, will be completed in eight days. Approximately 8,500 tons of rock will be used to build the base of the field. The speedway had a mock football field painted over the asphalt Monday.
Bleachers will be brought in and placed on the track to allow some fans to be closer to the field. Video boards will be setup throughout the stadium to provide for easier viewing from far distances

wait a minute... that's... that's exactly what superman would say to disguise his identity, or vice versa. Are you actually... Andy Bitter in disguise?!?

Not AB, just a fan. Seriously though, we are spoiled as a fan base, we get TKP, the best fan forum on the planet (if you don't believe it go to Le Sabwah or Pitt Blather and look) AND we have the best beat reporter as well. I just hope this is all here when we bring home the crystal ball.

they gotta bolt them down to something.....

Onward and upward

Well, and again I am just spit balling based on how I have designed similar situations (in this case stands that cannot be anchored directly beneath), they have a steel reinforced, structural grade concrete wall at the top of the track. It should be fairly easy to structurally bolt and tether stands to the wall with weighted stop anchors on the downside of said stands so that anchor points do not need to be drilled into the track.

This is all speculation I know, but there are always design solutions to problems like this and the amount of money made on seats close to the field will far outweigh the amount of money on damages.

the amount of money made on seats close to the field will far outweigh the amount of money on damages.

This. Never underestimate someone with money trying to outdo everyone. See also Jones, Jerry.

I have no doubt they will squeeze every seat they can possible squeeze into this place. If he's smart he will serve turkey legs at the concession too!

This Brunton dude doesn't strike me as someone who gives a damn about damaging the surface. He's hell bent on making this a spectacle. I want to know if you can buy passes to be on the infield. That would be awesome.

Also, halftime, Hokie vs. Smokey 10 lap race.

You're right. This dude repaved Bristol with progressive banking one year, fans didn't like it so he tore it all up and replaced it with normal banking. He's all about the experience.

Let's be real though, a little damage to the track might make the race better.

I have no idea why my username is VT_Warthog.

Arkansas blew a 24-0 lead in the Belk Bowl.

Who CARES what the place looks like... we're gonna show up:
1. Watch the Hokies destroy UT
2, Then shoot off ballistic missiles disguised as fireworks when the scoreboard clock hits zero
3. Then burn the place down, high-fiving Bruton Smith on the way out as he's smiling ear-to-ear counting his cash
4. While the Chamber of Commerce is already at the task of sending hand-written 'thank you' cards to each and every fan attending the game
5. Not to mention we set the new sporting event attendance record
6. Peyton Manning switches his endowment
7. And every recruit in the world is lining up to play for VPI, their moms throwing their unmentionables and their dads slinging their wallets at coaching staff...

There's more, but you get the realism here.

"...sticks and stones may break my bones but I'm gonna kick you repeatedly in the balls Gardoki!"

They're having messages from the governors right. The man speaking is like, "Butch Jones will be here!" Haha! Beamer was talking about driving the track.

They just showed an awesome highlight reel of us and Tennessee. Confetti is going everywhere!

YES

I need changed

@VTimHokie85

This was actually the real trailer Dozer and I were working on... the pre-season one was just to mess with you guys.

Party Positive.

Time to make a time machine, three years is too long to wait.

There's always a lighthouse. There's always a man. There's always a city.

Is Beamer going to drive? What is this? Oh my gosh!

Those cars better start racing at the end of this...

I'm going to watch local news at 12 on channel 5 because I'm sure they'll have more on there like interviews and what such. I'll tell you all if I hear anything interesting.

#battleatbristolhokies is what they say for us to use on twitter.

2 years, 10 months, 26 days, and 10 hours!

Is there anyway we can use the power of TKP to put Hokiegirl on the 50 yard line? She is by FAR the most excited out of any of us, and I know we are all fucking pumped.

Thanks for the info Hokiegirl

Thank you so much! This has been my childhood dream come true! :) Yes, please use the power to get me on the 50 yard line! I will pay whatever I have to in order to get there.

Ok, the motion has been seconded and carried. Joe, can you please put up a "HokieGirl On The 50" kickstarter so that we can give this girl her childhood dream? And yes, I am being serious.

Doesn't someone's mom work at the track? AMB, maybe? That's probably a solid start. Hell if someone could get this to Brunton I'm sure he'd figure out a way to make money off it.

If we do crowd fund this and we should, any left over money can be used for a monster TKP tailgate.

Nah my mom works for AEP. Now I'm sitting here daydreaming about IF she worked at the track...damn it.

@AMB4VT

Sorry to do that to you. Here's a turkey leg, which I'm sure totally compensates for it all...

Ok ok. A kickstarter for 2 tickets then. HokieGirl and AMB sitting together. But that's it. Everyone else can enjoy the largest tailgate in college football history.

and I am still being serious. Anyone know how many members are on TKP? Let's do the math.

Aw, seriously, you guys are awesome! My mom knows the people who used to own the track in the 90's but I have no idea if that would help me out any.

I am totally down for this...

@AMB4VT

yeah, we're doing this. Where is Horse? People turkey leg everything he says.

Horse, get over here and set this thing up. Then tell everyone to donate. We'll be funded in a week easy.

I'm TOTALLY down for it!

Ok, so it turns out kickstarter is only for creative projects. I'm not quite sure football tickets and huge, drunken tailgate falls in their prescribed categories of what is "creative".

So I found this one: www.gofundme.com

Seems you can do almost anything here. Now... where the F is Horse...

Seriously though. I'm looking into this and will contact Joe about it. TKP community FTW on this one.

Is it possible to put a treadmill somewhere? If so, I'll run the whole game in one of those race-for-the-cure type things where people donate, like 10 cents a mile.

No biggie vtfly!! I'm just bored out of my mind at work...since 9am!
Daydreaming helps the day go by faster. And thank god for TKP! Seriously.

@AMB4VT

Bling Bling

have to sell 40K? i dont think that'll be an issue.

"That kid you're talking to right there, I think he played his nuts off! And you can quote me on that shit!" -Bud Foster

From the ticketing FAQ

Who can buy tickets? When do tickets go onsale?
BMS NASCAR Season Ticket Holders & iBelong Members are guaranteed tickets for the game and may put a $40 deposit (per ticket) down on tickets immediately (see next question for breakdown of NASCAR Season ticket to deposit ratio)! Ticket information for all other BMS customers and general public will be released by the end of the 2013 calendar year. Fans wanting frequent updates on ticket information should visit www.BattleatBristol.com and register to be a Battle at Bristol Insider. - See more at: http://www.bristolmotorspeedway.com/footballfaq/#sthash.lvV9qcrj.dpuf

How much will tickets cost?
Tickets start at $40. The average ticket price will be similar to other BMS/NASCAR events ($93). - See more at: http://www.bristolmotorspeedway.com/footballfaq/#sthash.lvV9qcrj.dpuf

Can I bring a cooler into the stadium?
Unfortunately, no. This is a unique event and will operate in a similar fashion to other NCAA football games. While coolers will not be permitted, concessions and adult beverages will be sold within the stadium. - See more at: http://www.bristolmotorspeedway.com/footballfaq/#sthash.lvV9qcrj.dpuf

"We were at the pinnacle, and we did it for years," Foster says. He pauses, nods, takes a deep breath. "And I did it with the best guy in the business."

Adult beverages will be sold within the stadium

There was no way they were keeping alcohol out but part of me still wants to sneak Bourbon in...

view from the 50

Looks like a good view to me. This is going to be:

Of course channel 5 (the news anchors name is Paul Johnson :P) would be standing in front of the Tennessee car. $40 is a great price! But they said the $40 seats weren't that great. But the seats on the field were another story. Shit, I'll pay it...

I may have to invest in NASCAR season tickets because they get first dibs.

And that right there is going to be how he makes the payoff at $4M per team.
40k sales to each school plus alcohol sales plus increased NASCAR season ticket sales due to people wanting good seating at the spectacle.

This is going to be great for the ACC.

I'm sure camping will also cost a pretty little penny as well.

Dear Recruits still considering Virginia Tech. Please come be apart of the biggest college football game EVER.
-Hokie Nation

@VTimHokie85

I don't think 40K tickets being sold will be a problem. If they allotted us 100K tickets I think we'd sell them all.

It had to be done

Now if only we can get Ricky Bobby to train the Hokie Bird. If you ain't first you're last!

"We judge ourselves by our intentions and others by their behavior" Stephen M.R. Covey

“When life knocks you down plan to land on your back, because if you can look up, you can get up, if you fall flat on your face it can kill your spirit” David Wilson

haha... exactly. I had two ways to go. In my exhaustive 2 minute google research I found Days of Thunder would be quicker to do. Plus I'm lazy. But when we get closer to the date there will be Ricky Bobby'd battle of Bristol meme's aplenty

Pretty sure Will Ferrell is a USCw guy (went to Santa Ana College)...and his parents are from Roanoke Rapids NC...meaning he hates UT (re: Lane Kiffin). Sure he'd be up to supporting the Hokies in this one. After all he's not very expensive right now (note that was typed in the sarcasm font).

We put the K in Kwality

I'm just going to go ahead and cast my vote for #ALLMAROONEVERYTHING.

And just for kicks, here's what happened the last time we played UT:

I'm totally serial when I say Smokey laying down like that is the most apt thing that could have happened in that bowl game.

This about sums up my feelings.....

They just discussed this on ESPNU. Then following that put a Logan Thomas play on the #notsogreatplay reel... Well, thanks.

I think I've put this on this on this site like three times since I joined, but seriously. It's always a good time to take a listen. This must be played on replay at the tailgate.
