07Hokie already pointed out that we won that game so I'll just add that Miami was #2 in the nation. ESPN said that game was the "biggest win in it's (Virginia Tech's) history". Also, having been at the Miami game I can say that drop completely took the wind out of Miami's sail... as I recall it was early in the game and both teams were up for it. After the drop we took all the momentum and never looked back.

I was actually looking for the version that was posted on CollegeHumor back then with the caption "U Lose". I'm pretty sure I had saved it back then, but I've been through a few computers in the last 15 years. It might be buried on a CD somewhere.

Watts thought Farley was going to play deep 3rds / play man and took the TE post route.
Farley thought Watts was going to play deep half zone behind him and stayed in the underneath zone

I have to agree. The Miami fail was fantastic, because he watched the ball hit the ground and STILL dove for it as if it mattered. That's a double fail compared to a single fail.

I dunno, I can't stop watching the shortened version and laughing out loud. Without the lead-up it just looks like an invisble grenade throws him backwards right when he's about to secure the ball.

I give credit to the turf monster at the South Endzone goal line. Kept Danny Coale out of the endzone on his Nebraska catch, knocked the ball away from Miami in '03, poked the ball away from UVa this year, I even think I remember him trying to trip up Chris Ellis on a defensive TD in Beamer's first win over Bowden and FSU back in '08(maybe?).

I knew it! Must be the HokieBird's half brother banished the South endzone turf for all eternity. You think its a coincidence that all of these plays happened after the South Endzone expansion in 2002?! Tech probably built the South Endzone expansion just to keep him chained to one end for fear he might roam the whole field like back before the mid 90s. Now all of the strange bounces are contained to one end of the field.

I would go with UVA. Miami owed us one for Ernest Wilford's dropped 2 point conversion a few years earlier. Grant Noel in that game might be the only QB ever to have had a QBR that was competitive with Nathan Peterman and we were still the dropped 2 point conversion away from tying the eventual national champions...

Miami, both because of the magnitude of the game but also the difficulty (or lack there of) of the catch. That thing is right in his bread basket. Perkins has at least 15-20% fault in that dude dropping it because there was no one pressuring him in the pocket nor running with his receiver, yet he still under threw him pretty badly.

Kevin Everett (Miami) was open because they ran a fake FG beautifully.
Tavares Kelly (loluva) was open because we had probably the biggest coverage bust of the season.
We practically gift-wrapped a TD to the Hoos, and they couldn't even accept the blessing. So, I'm going with them.

The Miami player was ineligible downfield. He was covered in the formation. But the officials missed it. I'd go with UVA as the bigger fail, since the UVA guy was a real receiver while the UM guy was a tight end.

UVA.
Counterpoint: Miami
Miami won. The fail didn't matter.
The UVA fail cost them 15 years.
Miami was 2003. We won 31-7

Alternate angle of that Miami fail:
Courtesy of this old TKP post.
To this day, I have that picture printed out and hanging in my childhood bedroom.

Here's the one you're looking for:
Can there please be a motivational poster version of the UVA fail so I can post it up at work in my cube?
Counterpoint:
*ducks*
The proper image here would be the official announcing the result of the replay.
Even in gif quality you can see he caught that ball. TD Tech.
Miami
Seems like a lot of teams have dropped wide open deep balls against us this year.
And we have had zero wide open deep balls on O.
The Hazelton TD called back for ineligible receiver downfield was wide open, right?
okay, one. On a WR pass.
So none where the coverage just blew it.
And for that, we should be so grateful. ....because those teams had a LOOOOOOOT of opportunities.
This still burns my eyes to see how bad we blew that coverage. I mean, what in the even hell were we doing?

The Miami fail played a more pivotal role in that game. But the LOLUVA one is great because LOLUVA. So yes, they both failed it better.
So UVA does do something really well - fail.
Miami. That little "pouncing lion cub" hop he does - to try to catch the rebound - puts it over the top.

UVa.
That comical flop and mini surrender cobra at the end seals it makes me chuckle every time.

Someone should take the long version and splice in the kid sniper.

Also the same end zone where Vick wrecked his ankle against JMU.
And probably the same endzone where Wilford dropped the 2pt conversion in 01.
Weren't both of Perkins' fumbles toward the North Endzone though? Peoples fumbles in the south and we recovered
Yup, back in '07

So you're saying the SEZ is our own version of Betrayal at House on the Hill?
Leg for a fun game
The 2017 Pitt 4 down defensive stand happened there also, right?
Miami. He stopped and was waiting for the ball, in the EZ, on a fake punt. And the picture of the fan in the background is an all time classic.
What makes the UVA won hilarious to me is how his legs flail around. Hilarious.
Both are FANTASTIC FAILS.
This still IMHO the best LOLUVA fail
Could this be the same horse?

I'd look hard at replacing Tyrone Nix based on that play alone.

How is the defender that missed Peoples fumble into the end zone not in the mix here?
