Welp, we've finally arrived. Its the offseason (well, save for tomorrow's glorified practice otherwise known as the Spring Game)

So lets get it started in style. What are some unpopular opinions that you may have that you want to get off your chest.
I'll start
This:

Is far superior to this:

Look, I get it. The additional part is supposed to resemble the shape of Virginia and its supposed to be a cute subliminal node to our home state, but... Ehh, the first one is just better. Just because you added that cute nod doesn't make it look better. Go back to the old one.

Sooo not enough
Mac and Cheese Kraft is the only good one and all Mac And Cheese is kids food.
Chipotle is crap Moe's if you have to have "fast food California style Mexican" is better.
Zaxbys is crap Raising Canes is better.
Rotating RB's is a fine run game plan.
Cake is a bad food.

Cake is a bad food.I 100% agree with all of this...I wish they had another RB behind Barry Sanders so he could have played longer.
Barry is my favorite player of all time. I don't hate him for leaving at all.
Is it actually unpopular that Canes is better than Zaxbys? I think Zaxbys is trash even when NOT compared to Canes...
I stopped at a Zaxby's for lunch on a recent roadtrip, it took 30+ minutes to get the food; food was ok... but that is most definitely not fast food.
Also, Zaxby's sauce is just mayo and ketchup...
There sauce is made in a factory somewhere and shipped out and their chicken fingers are frozen. Canes made in each store and chicken is never frozen.
Mac and cheese is for everyone when it is homemade with multiple cheeses, box stuff is for kids.
Everything else is 100% accurate.
Velveta shells is a classy meal for learned engineers.
Chipotle is the best in every category besides queso and ground beef.
Bojangles>Popeyes>Raising Canes>KFC>Zaxbys>Churches.
Rotating RBs is fine but you should still have someone who's "the guy".
I had a whole Owens cheesecake for dinner once to clean out my meal plan.
Mac and cheese as a whole is one of the most over rated side dishes ever conceived. It's tailor-made for picky 5 year olds, but unless it is augmented with something awesome like lobster or bacon, no self respecting adult should have such a deep love for noodles and cheese sauce. It is in no way inedible, but there are dozens of better choices to put on your plate. Change my mind.
The only way to change your mind about this would be for you to taste it when it's done right, with authentic ingredients, by someone who knows what they're doing.
Lobster or bacon, on the other hand, are nice touches to an already good menu item.
Agreed. Saying that Mac & Cheese is only for five year olds is akin to saying that Velveeta is the only kind of cheese.
Velveeta is not even cheese. It is a processed cheese product.
This is exactly my point!
But I promised Joe I wouldn't get into a wrasslin' match so he could take a break.
I keed. I keed.
Been some shitty days at work recently. If we ever meet up, I owe you a bourbon
Imma hold you to that. Not because I think you owe me a drink, but because bourbon.
luckily for you, I rarely go anywhere that bourbon isn't an option.
Especially tailgates
Hell, I might like you after all.
Name checks out
Yep, just spit water all over my desk/keyboard
Yeah I laughed really hard.

The Beatles are so-so
AC/DC is a steaming pile of garbage
You're wrong about AC/DC (at least the prior iterations with Bonn Scott and Brian Johnson). They were rockers.
The really recent stuff, I can't defend.
See my explanation below
Yeah, sure... Beatles are so-so. They just invented an entire genre of popular music and recorded the best concept album of all time.
No big deal.
I present to you, Exhibit A:
Five Reasons Why the Beatles Suck
Can't argue with the guy
You're wrong about the Beatles; they were a product and reflection of their times. That article is a good read, though.
You're wrong about me being wrong, both on the Beatles and AC/DC
I see what you're saying in both cases. But I think you're missing the big picture in both cases.
Sgt Pepper's is at the top of every best album ever list.
It's like everybody's opinion.
Man.
The Beatles sucked until they started dropping acid!
Kyle Busch is the new Dale Earnhardt.
100% agree. I however have been a KB fan since he signed with JGR, so I may be biased.
I had a friend once who turned out to be a KB fan. Still hang out with him all the time, but we ain't friends anymore.
Oh, are we going there with The Office?
I love the "Pam actually sucks" takes. So hysterical

Redheads are amazing. Change my mind.
Why change a mind when you're correct?
False. Being attractive just means you have the right combination of coloring, bone structure, shape, and appeal to the nostalgia of the guy making the evaluation. Put red hair on someone with a complexion better complemented by black hair and you'll make an attractive woman less so.
Attractive women are attractive
Some attractive women are redheads
Many redheads are not attractive.
Maybe, but all redheads are more fun.
Change my mind.
Are you asking for a redhead to show you a bad time?
I'm saying that I have some experience with redheads, and they have an excellent track record.
You know I've had excellent track record of eating tasty sushi, doesnt mean I'm going to buy it from a train station in chicago.
I'm certainly not disagreeing with that.
Questionable redheads are probably a lot more fun than questionable sushi.
Chick-Fil-A biscuits are trash. I'm not talking about the chicken, which is obviously elite, but the biscuits are horrible. It's blatantly obvious that they're not made fresh and places like Bojangle's and Hardee's have a far superior biscuit.
Hold up there bud, my perfect biscuit is the Chick-fil-A bacon biscuit with grape jelly. I'll die on this hill.
Would you rather have a Chick-fil-A biscuit over either of the establishments I mentioned above? Hardee's biscuits are elite, Bojangle's a close 2nd IMO.
Yes because they do bacon perfectly at Chick-fil-A. It's not burnt. And it's in like a nicely formed disc
What-a-burger chicken biscuit is superior to all the above. Wake up sheeple
Well, RIP then.
Skip the biscuit. Not on the menu but order:
Chicken, bacon, egg, and cheese on the bagel. You wont be disappointed.
As a resident ATLien...HIGHLY recommend eating at an ATL area Chikfila Dwarf house restaurant if you're ever in town.
ESPECIALLY on saturday mornings:

THIS!!! A few years ago a group of us drove to Atlanta for a Thursday VT vs GT football game & stayed over Friday night as well. That Saturday morning, our hungover group unknowingly stumbled into a Chick fil-a Dwarf House on the way out of town. All-you-can eat chick-fil-a breakfast, including gravy. It was a religious experience.
Several Points -
I stumbled upon the Dwarf House in Rome on a Tuesday evening where they happened to be doing the breakfast buffet from 6p-9p. I injured myself with the chicken fillets and the gravy. Good God, man.
Chick-Fil-A biscuits are indeed bad. Too greasy/buttery and they fall apart.
If you ever happen to be in NC, Go to Biscuitville. One Biscuit To Rule them All. Bojangles, Hardees, your granny... won't even come close. They're the best.
Tudor's Biscuit World

Steak, egg, cheese and potato
The Tudor's in downtown Roanoke was the best. RIP
Scratch Biscuit Company in Roanoke > all
If you're ever in Asheville, give Biscuit Head a whirl.
Seconded! Biscuit Head is one of my favorite restaurants of all time.
How have I never heard of this? There's a void in my life that now I never knew existed.
All biscuits are worthless filler anyway.
If you have fried chicken and biscuits in front of you and you reach for the biscuits, I just don't know what's wrong with you.
Chick-Fil-A is ridiculously overrated. I can make a better fried chicken sandwich in my sleep and their nuggets suck.
This shit just got real
As someone who works at CFA.

CFA nuggets are straight trash that taste like overcooked salted chicken, the sandwich can be alright, and the strips actually have flavor and are pretty good (sorry current students). Also CFA sauce isn't that good and the honey roasted bbq packets are noticeably better. The only thing waffle fries are good for is being sauce vessels (for polynesian sauce). They are really disappointing fries on their own.
Waffle fries are made for their mayo. Was the only way I could tolerate them when I was younger. After living in Germany and visiting Bruges I can't have fries any other way.
agree, they're marginal. The McDonalds near me makes fantastic buttery biscuits for breakfast, one of these days I'm going to create a Frankenstein breakfast sandwich, transferring the fried chicken from Chick-Fil-A into the buttery embrace of a McDonalds biscuit
A vote for bojangles biscuits here.
Lol is he actually saying what I'm hearing in my head?
If you're looking for a good biscuit and find yourself in Roanoke, check out Scratch. It's in Grandin and their food is excellent!
Just call it in, pull up and they bring it out to you. Repeat 5 times for a week. Gain 20 points.
Also, it is the best biscuit I have ever had
There mini biscuits (which arent quite biscuits) are amazing though.
Read Andy Staples review of Chicken Biscuits:

their coffee is the worst coffee i've ever had in my life
Hey we can actually settle this. We're currently doing a biscuit challenge bracket at work. Double elimination blind taste test everyone gets one vote. I believe Chick Fil a, Hardees, and Bojangles are in.
Radiohead sucks. It's just whiny noise.
I have gotten lost in the music in a few of their albums, namely Kid A and Ok Computer. It just felt like it became one with the environment I was in and the music just made sense. Even the album artwork just made sense. When it finished playing, my friends and I sat in silence for a few minutes before we realized it ended.
"This message may or may not have been brought to you by drugs."
But agreed, it can sometimes feel like whiny noise if you are not feeling it.
When we lived in Blacksburg we had friends who printed Radiohead lyrics and cut them in strips and had them hanging all over the apartment just everywhere.
That also may have been brought to you by drugs
The best thing we had in our apartment was a wall with the chalkboard paint. It was always open for anyone to draw something new or add onto whatever was there before.
I'm going with brought to you by drugs.
Back in my day, I watched a movie called "The Accidental Tourist" with Kathleen Turner and William Hurt and thought it was the best film ever made.
I watched it clean and sober years later and was all like, "What the Fuck?"
Unpopular opinion: Some folks believe CHEESE is disgusting
And those folks are wrong
Get your facts out of this opinion thread.
The Masters is an overrated sporting event and people only get so excited about it because everyone tells them they should. I get it, the course is nice and has a lot of layers of prestige around it, but I think if you're honest with yourself and even passively consider yourself a golf fan, you're just as likely to watch U.S./British Opens, PGA Championship and The Players with equal or very similar enjoyment.
The Masters is more of a change of seasons event which I think what makes people so excited. A lot of the excitement comes from that we are finally exiting winter and the weather is becoming nicer. And I've heard it is one of the best run sporting events for spectators to be at. Legitimately everything onsite is run perfectly.
I've been to a The Masters once, and it's great as a spectator. Even the food and drink is affordable (read: significantly lower than stadium prices).
However, as someone who goes to the US Open every year and has interned for the USGA for it, I also agree that it's just as good. Though, the food deals aren't to be had at the US Open. I also just like the variety of a different course and the challenges that come with that it.
I love the Masters and USOpen.

But nothing beats
This is 100% correct. I loved the Open when I went. It was so much better ran than the US Open and the PGA. The masters does have great food prices, but the Open let's you bring coolers into it. Hell on Monday practice round I walked right on to the course, no baracades by the 17th at St. Andrews. No one cared if I had a ticket or not. You could get seats in stands, you could walk the course, you could drink. It was by far the best experience I've had.
Winged Foot for the US Open was fun too becuase you could get across the course so easily and see so much golf. Also I was 10 feet away from Phil when he hit a tent. And directly behind Phil when he hit a tree.
This sounds like you need to stay the fuck away from Phil.
You mean, along here? ;)

Having attended multiple Masters, PGA championships, US Opens and random tour events, the best things about going to the masters are the beautiful course, the food prices and the lack of crowds. US Open and PGA championship are so packed it becomes less fun. Watching on TV all events are equal in my mind.
It's insanely overrated. Golf sucks in general.
Counter I expect to see... "fishing is overrated / sucks."
That's fine.... get off my
lawnriver.Neither golf or fishing suck. They are both awesome!
⛳️🎣⬆️⬆️⬆️
This guy gets it. Golf and fishing are both awesome activities/sports to be enjoyed out of doors from childhood until death. Both promote camaraderie and humor by those willing to submit to the joys and frustrations that each produces voluminously. I gleefully look forward to doing both with my future grandchildren ad nauseam, assuming that I can tear their little eyes away from the inevitable electronic devices.
Hardcore golf fan checking in. If you haven't been to it I can understand that opinion. I went to US Open 2014 & Masters 2015. The US Open was fucking miserable. The USGA dried the whole damn course up and made the entire place (Pinehurst) Kansas 1933. The Masters was so good it's hard to put it into words. Between the course, viewing, and cheap beer/food, it is fantastic. I haven't been, but my parents did the last Open at St. Andrew's and say its right up there with the masters.
No one cares about the PGA. It's whatever.
I equate The Masters to the Daytona 500 more than anything. It's the showcase event that gets more neutral eyeballs than any other event within the sport, so CBS can really ham it up. Trust me, golf nerds are totally self-aware of the criticism and we are insufferable about it.
Lastly, most golf nerds aren't trustfund, country club kids. I didn't grow up playing one and still don't. It's a generational game usually passed from father to son (or daughter) and that's why it's so special to me. This is why we all have the shitty swings of our dad's.
Response:

That's really more of a lie than an opinion.
Edit: Oh, I see. The opinion is that their lie should be mocked.
UNPOPULAR OPINION: Avocados are kinda gross to me. I don't get the hype.
I with you on this one, I don't even like guacamole unless it's in one of those seven layer dips. I have never understood why avocados have become such a big deal.
I feel the same way about mushrooms.
Make a BLT, and instead of Mayo (Oh Dear Jesus, please let them not start a Mayo subthread) spread some guacamole, or add some avocado.
You're welcome.
Just in time for Easter (sorry Leonard!!)
Obligatory...
I see nothing wrong with this picture
Avacado is essentially nature's butter. An overripe avacado spread on some toast with a little salt/paprika is magical.
I'll do you one better....sourdough toast, spread some mayo, mash and spread avocado, black pepper, red onion, bell pepper
Hey, chalk this up as a win. More for you. I have to fight Mrs. APFOW for guacamole whenever we have Mexican.
Good take. Guacamole blows too.
Unpopular opinion: The sole purpose of an unpopular opinion thread is to create petty arguments over random things.
just kidding, it's fun finding out how wrong all of you are about everything, and how right I am in my opinions.
No, it's just a cheap ploy to recoup all the turkey legs he lost in Joe's meta thread.
Sshhhh, you shut your mouth while the man's offering me bourbon.
Five guys is over priced garbage and four brothers bistro is 10 times better
Over priced - oh yea. But man is it perfect for a hangover
Objectively, Four Brothers is more expensive for less food, so I don't think you can make the argument that five guys is overpriced.
For those of us who aren't convenient to Richmond, you'll have to buy us something from there to prove your point.
Unpopular opinion: If everyone on this thread doesn't have downvotes, we all lost.
Haha... This is gold!
I like the new academic logo. I think its on brand, modern, and way better than the pylons.
Your opinion is so wrong its insulting. But.... its appropriate for this thread. Upvote achievement unlocked.
You're making it hard for me to follow the community guidelines and not downvote because I don't agree with you ☹️
u2 (post Aqualung)
Coldplay
Nickleback
Maroon 5
Justin Bieber are the worst bands/artists EVER (wait, am I doing this right?).
For a second I was thinking damn macgruber is really going for it
Wow, didn't know that there were people out there that hated U2...i thought the band was revered like the Beatles...see im learning...
U2 is the fucking worst. Right up there with AC/DC in my books
Dude, One is an amazing song. I'm not a huge U2 guy but they've made some quality stuff.
And if you detest AC/DC I'm guessing you don't like rock n roll?
You would guess wrong. The vocals are annoying as all fuck. The drumming is so easy I could teach my dog to take on that role in about an hours time; the guitar work, again, with a few hours practice a fucking monkey could play it. Lyrics are straight cheesy.
AC/DC is shit. Plain and simple.
I agree with you
You're too late on being a hipster and pretending to hate everything. That chicken flew the coup in 2015 or so...
I'm ahead of my time then, I've hated AC/DC since I started listening to the radio in the 80s
I've seen interviews where the band itself agrees with most of what you're saying. They just wanted to make catchy rocknroll. They're not trying to be the best.
Correct. It's not that any of their music is complex.
It's more that it's played with attitude, and they never claimed anything different.
I hate U2.
Aqualung was by Jethro Tull???
Agree with all of these especially the redundant trash that is U2; BUUUUTTTTTT Silverside Up and Long Road are good albums by Nickelback
Leg for the funny ass gif, lol maybe that's my biggest unpopular opinion but yeah I think they're solid; especially compared to the trash that's out there now. By no means are they audiolave or tool quality, but there are some good songs on them.
Head basketball coaches that wear suits look ridiculous. You're coaching basketball, not attending a wedding. You don't look classy or dignified. You look silly. I'm no fan of
Jim BelushiBob Huggins, but the man knows how to dress like a damn coach. It's easier to cut a windbreaker than a double breasted suit jacket for the AED machine.
Lmao
I have to agree with this one, it also applies to hockey coaches
It's the tradition to wear a suit and coach basketball. Therefore it can't be ridiculous.
Kids these days... no affection for decorum and etiquette.
How did I never see that before?
I got the mother of them all. The '18-'19 UVA Men's Basketball Team is the absolute GREATEST in the history of the NCAA, EVER.
Why does the guy getting bashed in the noggin bear similar facial features of Buzz??
Hadn't noticed, but now it's even more cathartic
You left off the giant slash
Syracuse??
This is the Unpopular Opinion Thread.
You're clearly looking for the Things Stupid Jackwagons Say Thread
But that is not what the television man told me

I dont even think this team is the greatest champion this decade. Villanova would wipe the floor with UVA...
The GREATEST team ever would not have to have last second heroics to win the final 3 games.
Everyone likes doing burpees
Burpees are the only thing I do better than everyone else. Leg
Name any Tom Hanks movie, and that movie would be better with another actor replacing Tom Hanks.
Let's test it out.
Who is your replacement actor in these movies?
Saving Private Ryan
Castaway
Forrest Gump
Castaway - I want to see what Will Smith or Jim Carrey could do with this..and i think it would be better than Tom Hanks..
Are Will Smith and Jim Carrey still on cocaine during that role, or are they the 'later in life more serious role' actor
"Will Smith on Cocaine" - hadn't heard that one. I figured Carrey was using around the Man on the Moon...
Still I think both of them would do a better job than Hanks did in that movie..
Tom Hanks won a Golden Globe for that role.
Saving Private Ryan: Harrison Ford and Mel Gibson were originally considered for the role, either woulda been better
Castaway: Jamie Foxx would have won Best Actor in this role
Forrest Gump: Doesn't matter. Movie is trash. Role is probably in Adam Sandler's wheelhouse though.
Hanks was brilliant in each of those roles.
Yeah this opinion is FUBAR
Tom Hanks was perfect in
Saving Private Ryanevery role he's ever hadnope Castaway should have be 80s Robin Williams. He would have killed it.
That would have been brilliant.
just imagine his character from Jumanji in the Castaway role instead
Yeah, they could have made it into a comedy.
Oh, wait, that would have been Joe vs the Volcano.
Castaway on AMC tonight.
Hanks was great in that role. Williams would also have been good, but I think not better than Hanks.
Forrest Gump: Doesn't matter. Movie is trash.
Leg for most unpopular opinion I have ever heard.
Philadelphia...Nope
Cast Away...Yes
Forrest Gump...Nope
Green Mile...Yes
Thats all i can think of right now..
Big... nope
Joe vs the Volcano... nope
The Terminal... Yes
That movie was the biggest letdown I had seen since Welcome to Mooseport...
I still catch it whenever its on HBO, because CZJ
But yeah. Tom Hanks was just out of his element there. One of those roles where they probably should have given it to an actual E. European
I'm giving you a leg for this take, mainly because of my disdain for all things Tom Hanks post and including Forrest Gump.
I can't tell you how much this gif triggers me. Leg for the troll job
Toy Story disagrees
Edit:
So does Polar Express
Not good examples, IMO. Toy Story was great and would still be great with almost any competent voice actor as Woody. I don't think Hanks added anything to those movies that couldn't be replaced with relative ease.
Polar Express was trash.
Woody Harrelson, all Tom Hanks movies.
You misspelled "Cruise."
Even though your contempt of Top Gun is completely misguided, I am perfectly willing to concede this point save one role...
Nah man, Tom Cruise isn't a person I would want to hang with, but that guy can make movies. He sells it, and there are very few bad entries in his catalogue IMO.
He can make a certain kind of movie.
Certainly doesn't have the range of Tom Hanks.
Never said he did. I like both actors for what they are.
Cruise has Hanks beat on the jumping off of rooftops front though.
OK, I'll give you that.
Partially because Cruise actually does the jumping. In his zone, Cruise is pretty good.
I'm not saying his movies are bad. I'm not saying that he didn't do a good job in many of them, or even a hell of a job (see A Few Good Men). I'm saying that they could be better with someone else.
*With the exception of Les Grossman, of course. Cruise nailed that role.
It's supposed to be an unpopular opinion, not an asinine opinion.
THe amount of Chik-fil-a / chain restaurant worship on this website is palpable, unhealthy, and laughable.
I'll see you all in hell.
especially because chik-fil-a sucks
MODS BAN THIS MAN RIGHT NOW
I actually thought the orange on orange unis looked sweet
Oh, now that we're there
Needs to be a part of our rotation. Its a great helmet, and that orange looks awesome under the lights at night.
And.... the matte maroon helmet needs to be our primary going forward.
It sooooo looks like 5 is sitting on the bench and getting blind-sided there.
Looks like he's glad to be wearing black pants and not white ones.
This thread is going to single-handedly zap my productiveness at work today
Appears to be true already.
Bryan Stinespring was actually a solid offensive coordinator.
Jim Weaver. Best AD in Tech history EVER.
C'mon, posting the stuff on here doesn't mean you actually believe it.
Except that's the point of these threads.
Opinions you have and believe that aren't going to be popular
Ah, I misinterpreted. I believed it to be Unpopular Opinions that maybe I've heard or existed, not necessarily subscribed to. Like a lot of threads, I was screwing around.
Old town road and old town road remix suck ass
Now this one hurt. Honky Tonk Hip Hop is the future.
The beat is fire. The vocals and lyrics are garbage.
John Wick is an average action film
The movie is ok but the gun play is 👌🏻
I do not like country music. It is not good.
Some country is really good. Other country, specifically pop country, is possibly the worst form of music on the planet
Love that video and I also love country music. It has sucked to see artists you liked just change to complete pop country based off what is popular in Nashville.
People complaining about Skeiro: Shadows Die Twice is too difficult and needs an easy mode never played an Atari, NES, Genesis, or SNES game ever (note: not talking about accessibility like controllers for handicap, colorblind mode, etc. that's something completely different and shouldn't be argued).
Sporting events are Cosplay Conventions for jockeys as Comic-Con, Otakon, and etc. are for Geeks.
Seriously. Older games physically couldn't have as much data on them as well as if you had no multiplayer or internet, they needed to make them last longer so customer felt satisfied and got their money's worth. Therefore, they made them much harder. Also, all the arcade games would be made just possible to beat in order to get people to put in more and more quarters. Now a days, you don't really need to hold on to the audience like that.
Am I the only one who has absolutely no idea WTF Horkie is talking about? There's not one single sentence in his entire post I understand in the least.
Someone enlighten me?
New game out that is hard, people complain its hard, studio always makes hard games so not sure why everyone complaining now.
Oh. Thank you.
*cracks Beardknuckles*
Pop music today is just a bunch of uninteresting vowels and phrases with some screeching baby robot animals interspersed every now and then, and guitar solos (or solos of any instrument, really) are more interesting to listen to than a singer.
John Mayer stole the show at the Concert for Virginia Tech and is one of the best guitarists active in music today.
Said this on here before but I always love seeing the reactions: I don't find Emma Watson attractive.
Turkey is overrated as a meat. (Except for the stadium legs...those are that dam truth)
So is Southwest fare. Keep your Moes, your Chipotle, your Qdoba, even your Taco Bell. Keep it all.
The Big Bang Theory isn't remotely funny.
These should keep y'all occupied for a while.
Man, its awful. The videos on YouTube where the laugh track is removed show just how completely unfunny that show is. All it does is pander to those who laugh when told to laugh.
I don't think it is that unpopular to say that John Mayer is one of the best guitarist active today. He is uber talented. Just watch some of his extremely early YouTube videos when he was playing in record stores and smaller videos.
Oh and Turkey is difficult to cook. It is almost always dry unless you cook breast and legs separately or you drop it in a deep fryer. Not that unpopular of an opinion. The side dishes and leftovers with the turkey are what makes it good.
Edit: Going through the rest of your list, I don't find a single one of these opinions as unpopular. Big Bang Theory is universally known as not a good tv show. Southwest/Mexican fast food is not there to be great food, it is there to provide a lot of calories, quick and cheap.
I couldn't agree any more. That show is so cringe worthy bad and unfunny.
We're all getting "unpopular" and "wrong" really confused in this thread
I mean I can see how other people would find her attractive, I just don't. Look at it this way, that's one less person for competition....
I am Robin Hood and these are my Merry Men!
Feygeles?
No we're straight.
I'm just saying if you were at a bar and lets just say you were Single Beard and there was no Lady Beard and Emma Watson came on to you, i don't think you're saying "nah i'm ok"
The question was "is she hot?" not "would you do her?"
Respect the game.
lol they were ruthless toward Hilary Swank that episode
Pop music - agreed
Mayer - didn't see the concert, but dude's incredible on guitar. If you're not familiar, look up Dead & Company.
Emma - agree to disagree
Turkey- THANK YOU!
Southwest far - ur wrong
Big Bang Theory - terrible show, only terrible people watch it
I'm pretty sure nobody eats turkey outside of deli meat and holidays. I can't even recall seeing it on a restaurant menu anywhere in the last 5 years. I don't see how it could possibly be overrated.
Poorly cooked turkey is dry and bad. Wet brined turkey is bland and flavorless. Dry brined, properly cooked turkey is very good, especially as a vessel for gravy consumption.
You are just wrong on southwestern food.
The keyword you mention is vessel. Turkey can be no more than a vessel. Whether that is for stuffing, cranberry, mash potatoes, gravy, various casseroles and the other wonderful thanksgiving sides.
Turkey is an AVENUE to all of that. It's your excuse. Those things rely on the turkey. They don't happen together without it.
Smoked turkey is a thing to be cherished and celebrated
I would probably eat stuffing or gravy without the turkey
I'm pretty sure this is a highly popular opinion.
Soundgarden is trash
Moe's > Chipotle
I don't get the hype around Stranger Things
Soundgaren is trash. You are something else you know that
Leg for telling me to f*** off in the nicest way possible lol
Man, that Soundgarden take...
Would buying you a drink in real life if we were to ever bump into each other somehow salvage any chance at friendship??
Sure! Second round is on me.
For the record, I still don't approve of this Soundgarden take but I am willing to try and move past it. Haha.
And I will never utter that opinion out loud again. I had honestly never told anyone that because I am aware of the outrage it would cause lol
"Soundgarden is trash", bless your heart, are you aware how wrong you are?
I like to think that I live in a constant state of blissful unawareness
FTR, I'm the only person to upvote you because these opinions are all correct and everyone else is stupid.
Leg back at ya.
The DVs are all good though, you don't post what I posted without acknowledging the potential sh*tstorm that could ensue. Community Guidelines be damned, I sat on the post button for a good 5 minutes over that one
I don't think it's a big deal when someone says 'Va Tech'
Come at me bro
V-Tech is worse than Va Tech
I'm also not a big fan of the phrase "Virginia Tech University", but usually I let it slide since, you know, recruiting.
They're both stupid.
No one has ever said "Gah Tech", so why "Va Tech"? Is avoiding the extra syllable in Virginia really that much of a time saver over the two syllables in Georgia?
That's a red herring and honestly fuck them anyway, nobody talks about Georgia Tech. After moving up here to Michigan I like Va Tech more and more because I've realized it's a short and easy way that a lot of people talk about us. We don't need to be the same as Texas Tech or Georgia Tech, and we'll never just be Tech anywhere outside of the mid-Atlantic. Saying "Virginia Tech" outloud every time to reference us is a pain in the butt and it does NOT roll off the tongue. I am all in favor of us being call Va Tech or VPI or VT nationally.
Saying "Virginia Tech" outloud every time to reference us is a pain in the butt
It's that much of a hindrance? Damn, I wish my time was worth that much money.
I feel like VTech isn't good because "vee" can be confused with some many other letters that hard of hearing people like myself don't catch.
I certainly would not want to say VTech and be confused with the Vermont Tech Knights and their amazing Dressage Team
Double the syllables and definitely hard for me to say without forcing myself to annunciate properly
They are both WRONG!!
My main issue with VA Tech is that Va is not a fricking state!!!
My issue with VTech is I think about the company that makes electronics.
Well, this is awkward...
Smh, already wearing aTm colors.
true story.... those were never worn in a game. They were made for the yearly photoshoot so people would know the player went to VT.
While the picture of Bruce is just too good to pass up, you're right about the uniforms (the game jerseys didn't have VA TECH on them). Still, it's not as if VA TECH is just something announcers just made up on the fly-

The end zones from this game
For an abbreviation, "VT" would be ideal. But outrage over the "VA Tech" is a bit over the top. It's like getting irked over being called the "fighting gobblers", or angry when a kickin' Chicken or old "TV" logo or the "VTHokies" end zone pops on the screen.
YUP!
How many times do you hear OK State. Or Penn State. Or Cal or Pitt. (It's on their helmets!)
VA is short form for Virginia. Just like the other examples.
My issue is not seeing VA Tech-- a lot of the old stuff is really cool. Yes VA is the abbreviation, that's fine. My problem is when announcers say "Vah Tech." They never say "Gah Tech/ GA Tech..."
Again nobody cares about gah tech. That's a dumb reason to not like it. Would you be ok if it was Virg Tech? I think that sounds awful
That does sound awful.....
Unpopular opinion. Limp Bizkit is pretty good
At what?
Being a fraternity hazing game.
Just kidding that's beyond disgusting.
Bout to blow this thread up!
Emma Watson isn't remotely cute or sexy....
Drink. The Beard already said that above.
Although you are both wrong
Can't be stated enough...
1) French has the best food opinions
2) Top Gun is an incredibly crappy movie, and Iron Eagle is a far superior jet aircraft movie
3) While I love the NFL draft as a consumer of the product, the draft and the salary cap should be done away with. If I am the best at what I do coming out of college, and multiple organizations want my services, I should be able to select which employer I want to work for and my salary should be based on what they are willing to pay me, not some arbitrary cap that doesn't correlate to my performance or the revenue generated by my employer.
4) The only way to create a true college football champion is to have a 16 team playoff, and every conference champion gets an automatic slot.
I'm with you on 4)
Love Iron Eagle because Louis Gossett, Jr.
16 Team play off -- right on...
Well you got one out of four right, that's not horrible.
You don't need to expand to 16 to include all conference champs.
10 teams, 6 play ins. I don't believe in byes.
I would argue that byes are preferable to at-larges.
I'm very disappointed that someone named "French" has a hatred for cheese. Cheese (along with butter) are staples in French cooking and cuisine.
As I was bored and the wife was out of town this past weekend, I marathoned all four Iron Eagle movies.
A fine choice
4) Why not an 8 team play off with 5 auto bids to P5 champs, 1 auto to G5, and 3 at large?
Because if you win your conference, you should play for a national championship.
The best teams should play for a national title. Not bad teams that win their conference.
If they are the best teams, they will show up each week and end up winning their conference. No days off. No games off. No Oops. Win and you're in.
Yes because 2010 UConn was one of the best teams. There are plenty of teams that don't win conference titles that are better than teams that do.
Football. Football here. I'd guess less than 50% of the National title winners in basketball won their conferences...
Nobody is talking about basketball. This is what I'm referencing. I invite you to read a bit about it and try again.
Is the Big East still a football conference? Power 5! UConn isn't a part of that. And there was a different system practically a decade ago.
Here's some current reading for you...
Disagree. There are typically only 8-10 teams that really have a shot of winning the NC going into the season, let alone at the end. There really has only been one time when a team had legit beef for being left out of the 4 team playoff, which was OK St a few years ago, and that argument had holes in it.
I want to see the best teams play. I dont' want to see Alabama or Clemson have to play Bowling Green or Texas State only to have a star player get hurt which could potentially take away from the big-time matchup(s) we all really want to see.
3) If the teams were treated more as individual employers, I don't know, but I would think they would have to change how their NFL players union is set up.
Any love for Flight of the Intruder?
Read the book and then saw the movie. Book is insanely good. A lot of very real content included in the story. Those guys that did that job didn't get enough credit.
Then, Hollywood trying to match that in a movie is just hard and result was meh to me.
The inclusion of the A-1 SkyRaiders in the movie was great tho.
Love it
THE BEST jet movie!
Tool > Led Zeppelin
YESSSSSS THIS MAN KNOWS!!!!
Unpopular Tool Opinion 10'000 days>Lateralus
I'd have to think about that one for a while
I agree completely.
oof. I could overlook the AC/DC thing up thread because their music is a bit simple, but....this one. Just oof.
Led Zeppelin is not even the best 70s band
You're right, they're the best band period. Like....okay, let me put it like this. I don't know if Primus is your number one jam anymore, but LZ will always be my Primus (or whoever your big fave is now). They're the best. Even if the rest of their catalog sucked which it doesn't, Rock and Roll off Zoso is the greatest song ever written in the history of time and can't be topped. Forget who it might've been paying tribute to or ripping off or whatever other thing the haters might bring up. It's impossible to hear that song and not be happy. Drums at the beginning to signal the coming maelstrom, catchy riff, loud, driving rhythm, guitar solo that's not too long or too short dropped in the middle like a little slice of heaven, vocals that you can easily scream out yourself if you don't like the way Robert does it, John Paul hammering away at the piano like a madman in the 2nd half of the song, a short but unforgettable drum break and then a big slambang over the top finish....I mean come on. For someone like me that struggled mightily with depression and being happy in general for all of his teenage years...that song saved my life. LZ saved my life.
Ehhh Led Zeppelin is good but Pink Floyd Rush The Who and King Crimson is just better in my opinion
Also ever since I started listening to primus they will always be a tie for my favorite band with tool. My username came down to what would sound better APrimusHokie or ATooLHokie. I think APrimus sounds better
Pink Floyd are their equals, I'd put the other 3 a tier or two beneath
King Crimson is the shit
Indeed they are
Blood rack Barbed wire
Politician's funeral pyre
Innocences raped with napalm fire
Twenty first century schizoid man
Unpopular LZ opinion: In Through The Out Door is their best album.
I don't care why anyone thinks it isn't. That shit flips my skirt.
I haven't hear of that album what songs are on that one?
Fool in the Rain, In the Evening, Carouselambra, Hot Dog, All My Love, I'm Gonna Crawl...and 1 or 2 others I can't remember. Notable for being their last album, the only album in which John Paul Jones plays keyboards on all the songs instead of bass.....and for flipping APFOW's skirt, apparently.
While on the Topic unpopular opinion Fool in the rain is a boring song
My favorite Led song is When the levee breaks
Mine as well.
Bad Ass blues song, one of my favorites. But your original opinion is WRONG!!!! Zep head for life.
Nah I'm with you, give me practically every other song on ITTOD over it. Outside of the breakdown in the middle it's a snoozer.
Unpopular LZ opinion that might actually be somewhat popular: Achilles Last Stand is leagues better as an epic anthem than Stairway
So true.
I'm not saying Led Zeppelin isn't great, they are...but Tool is better
Not sure how unpopular this is, because it's true. Their cover of No Quarter is better than the original
Yea it is
No Quarter was written for Tool 17 years before the bands formation. Fact.
Both are great bands. But Zeppelin is an easier listen.
The best thing that Tool ever did is make an homage to the greatest band of all time.
Though, to be fair, it was a nice tribute.
If Tool could could produce an album a little more frequently I might agree... allegedly there's one on the way, but 13 freaking years between releases? C'mon. Zep was cranking out (really good) albums in their sleep.
NOw you've gone too far
In-N-Out is way overrated
As someone that has a Shake Shack, an In-N-Out, and a Five Guys within 10 minutes of my home, I will pick Shake Shack every time.
I approve this opinion.
Most disappointing fast food experience of my lifetime was my first visit to an In and Out Burger. The meat tasted like McDonalds. Everything else was mediocre, and there was a huge wait.
via GIPHY
My top three fast food burger chains:
IMO Shake Shack is miles ahead, 5Gs is as solid and consistent, and I do love a double double animal style... I also have to say, the new McD's never-frozen burgers are pretty good. Does that invalidate everything I just said?

Virginia Tech will never win a football or basketball national championship.
Oooof
Virginia Tech will never win a football
or basketballnational championship with Fuente as head coach.FTFY
Virginia Tech will never win a football or basketball national championship with
Fuente as head coachA budget in the bottom half of the ACC.We've been over this firearm, we spend a lot on football.
https://www.syracuse.com/orangefootball/2017/08/which_schools_spend_the_...
Awesome and yet our overall budget sits at the bottom half, and when looking at teams that have won a NC since the BCS started we aren't even close.
Looks pretty good to me. I'd like more people to contribute, too. But there are so many excuses NOT to. "Hey, we play Liberty." "Hey, we lost to ODU last year." "Hey, we made the Sweet Sixteen, but our basketball coach left." "Hey, I'd donate, but Fuente doesn't share enough information. He doesn't televise the Spring Game."
It's not easy to stick to it through thick and thin. Tiger Woods won the Masters today. Wasn't because it was easy to win that 5th jacket. Wasn't easier to win the jacket than to make excuses. Was harder.
We've been doing more with less throughout the history of the program. I guess we'll have to keep doing that.
Ok so we don't spend enough on women's lacrosse. Shed a tear and move on. We spend enough in football that we should be competing
Based on what? Coaching staff salaries are in 25-35 range. Merryman is stuck in the 80's (except for recently renovated lower levels) there is no room for expansion of practice fields with Stadium Woods. We have no new dorms for athletes etc. these are things that don't all fall under a schools football onto budget but do help recruit and win.
We are building brand new dorms right now. We are building a brand new state of the art nutrition and weight lifting facility right now. We are behind the curve and we don't have golf simulators and lazy rivers but we have enough. What we lack is recent success and anyone capable of selling our school to talented football players.
There are lots of great long term things that were talked about at the annual meeting. But Tech has fallen behind schools that people want to be peers with on the field. As for rescuers I see plenty of talent coming in on the offensive side. So I'm not sure many people will accept Foster and Wiles needing to be replaced since that's where the biggest talent deficits has been, the defense.
For 1 year where Bud went through health and personal issues. We still haven't had a good runningback since DW. Dragon was close but he had obvious issues before he was ran out of town. Fuente hasn't shown that he can develop a quarterback. Our line has some serious beef coming in but this season it's going to be a huge problem.
2 of our highest recruits in recent memory have been on Fosters side of the ball. He needs to bring in better DTs but our defense suffered because of its own success. Without having so many kids go to the draft early last season would have been much better off
Honestly I have no idea how VT fans would come to this conclusion. Did you miss the season where Jerod Evans rewrote the school record books and put up comparable numbers to Heisman Trophy winner Lamar Jackson? Or the next season when redshirt freshman Josh Jackson, a mid-range 3* developmental QB, had a better passing rating than Bryan Randall's 2004 ACC PoY season? Or the next season where a transfer walk-on backup QB, who had a career passer rating of 104.4, 5.9 YPA, and a 11:17 TD to INT ratio, improved to a passer rating of 138, 7.5 YPA, and a 24:9 TD to INT ratio?
Developing means improvement not results
redshirt freshman Josh Jackson, a mid-range 3* developmental QB, had a better passing rating than Bryan Randall's 2004 ACC PoY season
a transfer walk-on backup QB, who had a career passer rating of 104.4, 5.9 YPA, and a 11:17 TD to INT ratio, improved to a passer rating of 138, 7.5 YPA, and a 24:9 TD to INT ratio
Seriously though, your argument is really going to be that the results are satisfactory but we haven't seen enough improvement when Fuente hasn't had a single season with the previous year's starter available?
First, as has been pointed out several times, we're getting plenty of defenders at the top of our recruiting classes.
Second, RB is arguably as big of a deficit as anything we've seen lacking on defense, DT included.
Looking at list of top overall recruits I see an almost equal mix of defense and offense. Payoute, Patterson, Several OL, Turner.
I don't disagree. I just don't see why you always rush to bash on the defensive coaches to defend Fuente in these conversations. We've had a very poor run of luck/preparation when it comes to the DT position, but aside from that I don't see where there is damning evidence against the defense. No worse than our inability to close on any of these running backs that were supposed to highlight the class.
2019 - 2 of the top 5 were on defense (Vice killed it).
2018 - 3 of the top 5 were on defense.
2017 - 4 of the top 5 were on defense.
Failure to get a top RB (although King is going to be really good) is a huge flag against Fuente and the offensive staff. But I can't say that I can ignore Wiles and Fosters repeat failure to bring in top DL, and a big part for both positions is scheme. RB recruits aren't seeing what they want out of the offense and DL recruits aren't seeing a path to the NFL out of Fosters DL use.
I can see why people (myself included) almost want to divide this up into two teams, offense and defense. But let's not forget. Fuente is the head ball coach. The buck doesn't stop with Bud and Wiles for the DT issue. It may be due to scheme, fit, poor sales pitch from them, or whatever, but Fuente's name comes first on the websites and programs for a reason.
Sort of but Fuente gives Bud free rein to run his defense. This also isn't a new problem for Foster every year it takes special upperclassmen to keep the DL effective, and the waning years under Beamer really hurt the entire teams depth and talent levels.
Yet our last three classes were ranked 26th, 24th, and 26th, respectively. So they must be doing something right.
I don't want to wear the black hat, but this years recruiting rankings will not be in line with those figures
Virginia Tech will never win a
football orbasketball national championship with Fuente as head coach.FTFY
Both are correct.
When UVA won the game Monday night, I turned to my buddy and said the same thing. I wasn't mad that they won, I was sad because if I'm honest with myself I don't think we will ever experience that.
Stranger Things > Game of Thrones > Walking Dead
or
Game of Thrones > Walking Dead > Stranger Things
or
Walking Dead > Game of Thrones > Stranger Things
Better Call Saul > Breaking Bad
WTF?
Better call Saul is just... different. Very good, but not really comparable to Breaking Bad.
I would say Better Call Saul = Breaking Bad
Both genius television in their own way.
This is actually closer to my real feelings. I just find BCS more enjoyable to watch of the two shows.
Breaking Bad is just the plot line of The Sopranos written around different characters.
This can't be a real opinion that you truly believe
Game of Thrones > Walking Dead > Stranger Things,
But Stranger Things shouldn't even be in this conversation. I mean, it's a fun watch, but not in the same category.
The new era of these massive online video games suck. It was much, much better when developers focused on single player stories or campaigns and then released DLC to add on to those single player stories. These online only games are lazily developed money grabs aimed at nickel and diming young kids whose parents don't pay attention enough to know they're spending hundreds on useless bullshit that will be thrown away the second the next 'fad' game comes out.
Talking about you, Call of Duty, Fortnite, Battlefields, Anthem, etc. Oh, and lets not forget about all DLC for GTA V and RDR2. Yeah, you made an excellent single player. Good job, but your releases after the fact have all been microtransaction bullshit.
PS2 games are still 10x better than anything nowadays
This is categorically false. There are some great PS2 games but there have been a few excellent games that have come out more recently.
Devil May Cry on PS2 was one of the best single player games ever made. And Socom 2 online was better than Halo or any of the COD games since because it forced you to have skill, strategy, and teamwork, not just run and gun nonstop.
The PVP in Call of Duty, Halo, and Socom is so different it's hard to compare them. They all give you different vibes. I get the appeal of teamwork though. That is one of the aspects that made Destiny raids so much fun to run. When you had a raid group that worked really well together it just made for a phenomenal experience.
The Last of US and God of War are the two best games I've ever played. Those developers poured their souls into those games.
To add in some really good games not are not just Online Multiplayer.
Horizon Zero Dawn, Persona 5, Nier Automata, Tales of Berseria, Valkyria Chronicles 4, LoZ: Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Odyssey, Xenoblade Chronicles 1 and 2, Total War Warhammer 1 and 2, The Witcher 3, DOOM (2016), Two Point Hospital, Undertale, South Park: The Stick of Truth, South Park: The Fractured But Whole, We Happy Few, Cuphead, Marvel's Spider-Man, Bloodbourne, Dark Souls, and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.
Oh yeah, Bloodborne and Dark Souls too. Especially Bloodborne. Just amazing from start to finish.
Sekiro is excellent as well. The combat style is very different but it feels extremely rewarding and I love the feudal Japan theme.
So I've heard. Unfortunately, I'm not really a fan of the japanese theme.
It is hilarious to see one of these "gamers" have to play Ghosts N Goblins on NES and have a complete meltdown when they can't beat the second level.
Second level??? I couldn't get past the 1st 4 jumping skeletons in the first level right at the very beginning!
Hit them with something more difficult, Battletoads.
Which is really just this song in 8 bit form
Top Gun
I agree, but hard doesn't mean good.
Agreed with your point as a whole, but curious you lament lack of single player story and then mention RDR2. The story in that game is phenomenal. Easily one of the best pieces of entertainment media I have ever consumed.
The fact that the multiplayer aspect gets the attention now doesn't take away from the fact that the single player game was excellent.
Agreed, same with GTAV, but that doesn't mean I still can't be frustrated that after the release they only focus on multiplayer
I think the vast majority of video game players agree with the anti-microtransaction sentiment.
Video games, movies, and binge watching shows are an incredible waste of time and the world is worse for having normalized the idea of sitting in front of a screen for hours on end.
*Me Nodding while he sits down to watch another episode of Billions*
I love this show...midway through 2nd season
Fortnite Apex and other battle royal games are actually great for socialization and group working together skills.

Virginia Tech's fundraising will never significantly improve. Our young alumni are too responsible with their money to give back to a school they've already invested way too much into. And our older alumni who could give are too used to getting anything they want for free that they have no incentive to give. And any improvement we actually make will be offset by bigger improvements at other schools, putting us further behind than we originally were.
Because of this, its unlikely we will ever see us compete for and win a National Title in any major sport in any of our lifetimes. 1999 was the closest we will ever get to a major national championship.
Case in point Purdue is going to pay their football coach more than our basketball AND football coach combined.
This is incorrect. When I win the Powerball at over 1 billion, i will give money to a school that i did not graduate from to specifically put money into the football program..the field will be called "HokieHighlander Field"...
I know 'significant' is a subjective term, but I would say it's already improved a significant amount. It needs to improve another significant amount though from where it is now.
I'm not ready to write it off, but it will take time. Hard to change this overnight as donations are mostly an emotional response, for most folks. They need to continue to try to change the mindset of the older alumni, but the more foundational change will be changing the mindset before students graduate and getting them used to donating. That provides more stability but it's a long game. I'm actually surprised how much improvement there has been so far and am hoping it is sustainable.
Virginia Tech's fundraising has ALREADY significantly improved.
But your underlying reasoning on fundraising isn't all that far off.
Also, it would have been easier to compete for a national championship before the money was as big as it is now.
I disagree with your conclusion that money is the only factor in a national championship. You can also get lucky like UVa just did. Much easier in basketball.
If you don't think UVa invested heavily into basketball to get where they are, I'm not sure what to tell you. Yes, they were given very large gifts to jump start their program, (and to build the arena and round out their coaching staff and recruiting efforts) but those gifts come from working your ass off in fundraising. They do, and they get results.
I wasn't saying that UVA didn't invest in basketball. The point is that there are schools that have a LOT more money. Virginia has right-sized their basketball investment. They've also done that in football, so we need to get our act together, all around.
But since you brought it up, in just a few decades we've gone from raising a lot less than what they raise, to being in a similar category of fundraising. It does take time, but Whit has done an excellent job of improving fundraising.
To get to where you're going, you have to understand where you came from.
http://www.criticalcommons.org/Members/JJWooten/clips/john-mulaney-major...
Additionally the school is too far away for most to continue to feel connected, the spirit and support throughout the state aren't as prolific and part of the identity as other schools/states, we produce a lot of upper middle class but very few alumni with fuck you money, the Hokie club is butt, everyone's attendance and donations will go down as tv is a better experience nowadays.
1. Ketchup is awful. Its an abomination to tomatoes
2. Ordering avocado toast at a restaurant is stupid. I can understand making it at home, but the fact that I'm going to pay someone to serve it to me is insane
3. Diet Soda tastes better than regular
All soda is nasty unless it's cut significantly with alcohol. Agreed on the rest. Wouldn't even buy an avocado in any situation though.
No soda is great, but diet soda is an abomination to beverages.
Dish out all the sugar free hatorade you want! It's what I like
Whenever I'm in a drive through line, and the person in front of me has a long animated discussion with the employee at the window, I know I'm in for a wait that doesn't deserve the title "fast food", and I wish they'd ask that person to pull into a parking space and wait for the "have it your way" fast food experience.
Seriously people, chick-fil-a essentially has three menu items. What in the world are you discussing up there? I have places to be.
Exactly.
I enjoy it when a recruiting thread has more discussion about anything not related to recruiting
Yes, it's the best place for long discussions about how we suck, and will always suck, and that our coach sucks, recruiting sucks, and that it's all about money and we can't raise any money.
Because recruits will probably visit, and it's good to keep them updated on all that.
Leggings are not pants.
but they're okay in my books
When the right person is wearing anything, the rules are irrelevant. That does not mean everyone is the right person.
But yoga pants are the best pants.
I'm...happy for UVA that they won the BB NC. They deserved it.

Yes, progressive. I may be a wierdo, I am definitely NOT into geckos. Nice catch.
I don't know...I'm a sucker for an accent, and we all know the gecko has a sexy one. /s
I don't even care that she has hips. The Flogressive ads are like nails on a chalkboard, and always have been.
I think The Rise of SkyWalker will be a decent movie (and I'm glad it ends the saga).
Unpopular Primus opinion Antipop is their best album
Scholarship college athletes should not be paid. They are already paid in tuition that most other students spend at least a decade (sometimes more) paying off.
Considering I had to go on a few "field trips" with Uncle Sam to be able to pay for school, this will always be my take.
Are superstar athletes being exploited?
You bet your ass they are.
But at the end of the day, they can get their degree, and many times multiple degrees with summer sessions, before they are done with their eligibility while others are getting their asses shot off to get the same thing.
So, you'll please excuse me when my eyes roll straight the fuck out of my head anytime someone screams about them not being paid.
^^^ This is also the other side of that coin. Many who aren't in debt from their education have risked their lives for it. "Institutions of higher learning" are making a lot of money off of college athletics. That's the core problem - not that athletes aren't getting paychecks.
Most institutions of higher learning are barely breaking even on their athletics programs.
They're spending a lot too then. This is a valid point - I'm not arguing with you.
Everyone arguing for player pay is looking at these gross revenue numbers though. That's the only reason I mention it.
One reason that they're able to spend so much on things like facilities, coaching salaries, etc., is that big-time college athletics is currently closer to indentured servitude than a free market. If they actually had to compensate the players at market value, Clemson probably wouldn't have had the ability to spend $55M on a new football facility, at least not without finding a bunch of new revenue.
So? They get a lot of money from student research as well.
Counterpoint: Who are you to decide how much someone else should get paid? Why don't we let the market decide? Would you be okay if random message board posters got to decide your salary, knowing little or nothing about the value you provide to your employer? And yet a significant majority of message board posters, most of whom never played college or professional sports, somehow feel qualified to make exactly that determination.
As for the argument that there isn't money to "pay" players:
Media companies like Disney, CBS, and Fox make billions off of college sports.
Apparel companies like Nike, UA, and Reebok make billions off of college sports.
Game companies like EA make (or made) millions-to-billions off of college sports.
The NCAA makes nearly a billion dollars on the bball tourney alone, and a few hundred million more from licensing royalties.
Athletic departments/universities make tens to hundreds of millions off of college sports.
Corporate sponsors make millions through their affiliation with college sporting events.
Top college football and basketball coaches make millions. Lesser coaches make hundreds of thousands.
College football bowl execs make hundreds of thousands for what amounts to a few weeks' work.
Notice the one group missing from that list? It's the one that actually contributes the most value to the entire ecosystem. Money isn't the issue, it's the allocation of money that's a problem.
I'm not necessarily advocating for a salary to be paid to college athletes (although I'm not opposed; more below). I'm more of the mind that they should be allowed to pursue endorsement deals, and should be fairly compensated for their likeness. If ESPN, Nike, EA, or the local Cadillac dealership feature a college athlete while advertising their product, that athlete deserves a fair share, where "fair" is determined by the market, not school administrators, NCAA bureaucrats, or internet message boards.
And since it's an unpopular opinion thread: I would actually approve of a salary being paid in lieu of a scholarship, at the player's choice, with the requirement that if you take the scholarship then you have to meet the same academic standards as all other students at the school (i.e., no more NCAA minimums). I'd let the school set salaries, and presumably for most players they wouldn't actually exceed the value of a scholarship, but again, I think the market should decide. This way, players who have no business being admitted to a particular school can still pursue their dream of playing in the NFL/NBA, at the school of their choice, while earning enough money to attend a school for which they are academically suited.
Millennials are actually doing some really cool. innovative things, and don't deserve to be shat on by previous generations.
As a CFP(r) who follows such things for a living, the millennial generation (of which I technically am a member), does a much better job of saving and fiscal responsibility than Boomers. They also act much less entitled than previous generations that crap on them.
I hope they all retire.
Nice teeth, and I suppose, breath.
Fun thing to do: next time you see a headline that says "Millennials", replace it with "Adults under 40" and see how ridiculous it sounds.
I'm torn on this one because my older brother and I hate our generation (I think we're considered millennials being 31 and 27) but there are stupid articles that are clickbait "Millennials does(n't) ____".
Maybe it's just that 90 percent of my emotions is just some form of rage/anger during the day.

Country music is dead.
If you really want GREAT music check out Tyler Childers.
Mr. Simpson would like a word.
Also Cody jinks has something to say as well.
That said those guys I don't block in with country music I don't want that shit stain genre of trash associated with good music
I'm taking Jason Boland and the Stragglers out of the Red Dirt/Texas Country camp.
I still listen to some regular country but definitely have different playlists.
Tyler Childers is very good
Country Music died the day Big N Rich released "Save a Horse"
I thought that was the day they proved their worth.
Forgot Colter Wall. He's a great one too. Throwback. Sounds a lot like Johnny Cash.
IPAs are for craft brewers that dont quite know what they are doing and for people that don't have proper functioning bitter taste buds.
Why is it every place has 7 IPAs, 4 Pale Ales, some peach/tangerine/fruit flavor beer which is just brewed with flavor syrup in it, and 1 porter. LEARN TO MAKE SOME TASTY BEERS!
Yeah, if a brewery doesn't have a proper trippel or an imperial stout (and they need to be done well, dammit), I'm not interested.
I typically like my beers to be pretty strong though.
I used to like IPAs, but that was when there were only a couple and it was a nice change-up.
Now it's difficult to get past all the various IPAs to get something with some flavor.
All American Beer is shit, haven't had a good beer since summer 2000 in Barcelona.
The funny thing is, I think everyone has the opinion that their beer is boring/not as good and that imported beer is better. Have a good friend who is English, and when his family comes over they buy so much American beer and love it. Was also just in Germany/Austria and a local guy we met talked about his affinity for American beer. Obviously loves their own stuff, but was just fascinated with it. I guess it's all relative.
My German neighbor is here on a work visa and he says the variety and quality that we have blows Germany out of the water.
Might I suggest Tree House Brewing Company, Belle's, Founders, and my fav Canadian Unibroue
I have drank dozens of different kinds of bear and it all has this acidic aftertaste I don't like. Same with wine.
I don't even want to know.
Coffee is literally overpriced liquid shit
I've had one sip my 35.5 years on this earth and it's awful. It made for interesting nights as a cop and firefighter when everyone else is drinking it by the gallon.
Well I've never watched an episode of Stranger Things, but I have seen a trailer, and that show is awful.
I'm not typically a down-voter, but you just hit a nerve
8 or 9 wins is the ceiling for the 2019 VT football season
Your far more optimistic than I
8 better be the floor with our schedule. 7 wins and I want a new coaching staff.
Here is how I see it. Even if we win both of those I've listed as Toss Ups, that only gets us to 9 wins.
I don't about GT being a toss up, they are sure to be in for some growing pains under a new coach, and getting away from the triple option
If in his 4th season, with his staff and his recruits we're still calling BC a toss up, expecting to lose to Pitt, are worried about GT after installing a full new style offense without the players to run that offense, and are expecting to lose to Miami, I'm not sure why we'd expect to win the ACC moving forward.
Somewhat related: the justifications of "oh well Dabo didn't win until _____" have to stop.
Because winning is a function of comment boards?
because Clemson isn't a justification of VT
Fuente has had two good seasons and one bad one. And in the bad one, he still beat UVa and went to a bowl game. His recruiting classes were ranked 26th, 24th, and 26th according to 247.
You don't need a comparison with other programs to make a case for him.
I'm not sure if you're taking exception to outoftowner's reply regarding the expectations, or taking exception with his "somewhat related" sidenote about Clemson
When I read outoftowners comment, he seems to suggest that it's reasonable to judge Fuente based on our expectations of next season's outcomes. I haven't known the fan expectations in April to be an accurate predictor of the fall results.
That was what I was trying to say.
Okay yes, I agree.
Clearly I'm not speaking to our actual 2019 results. I'm speaking to expectations of success of the program overall. If we're still in this place where we're calling BC games a toss up and writing off games against Pitt, we're likely not in a good place with our staff for the long term if we want to compete in the worst P5 division on an annual basis.
I'm sure there's some data to back that claim up but the Pac12 as a whole is the biggest joke in college football, let alone their individual divisions.
Just seems odd to judge staff on fan predicted outcomes.
Makes me think that maybe there isn't sufficient data to support the conclusion being drawn.
I have some really bad news for you. VT went 8-6 against BC from 2003-2015, which includes the 10-win season streak. VT went 1-3 against Pitt under Beamer after they joined the ACC (2012-2015), and lost 3 straight to Pitt from 2001-2003. Meanwhile, VT has gone 2-1 against Pitt under Fuente.
It's the difference between what we've grown accustomed to expecting and where we need to be if we want to win titles. Outoftowner's comment history would indicate being of the "if you're not first, you're last"-type of mindset.
2003 was 16 years ago. BC isn't close to the same program. We hear plenty of excuses why we can't beat certain programs - be it money, recruiting, etc. So what is the excuse here? We out-spend and out-recruit Pitt and BC, yet I am somehow out of line for not being content with those games being considered 'toss ups?' 2001-2003 Pitt results - 3 games almost 20 years ago - have what exactly to do with my expectations of Fuente and where our program is now? Pitt and BC should not be our benchmark.
Call it "if you're not first, your last" if you like, but a coach that gets us to 8-5 every year is the worst thing that could happen to VT football, in my eyes. I'm very afraid that's is potentially our future under this staff.
We haven't gone 8-5 every year under Fuente.
So... you're upset about Pitt and BC being arbitrarily considered "toss ups" in 2019 when we recently transitioned from a long-time Hall of Fame coach who hadn't won an ACC championship since 2010 and had 4 straight years with 7/8 wins prior to retiring, yet losing to those programs multiple times on the heels of a national championship appearance in 1999 was somehow more palatable? Forgive me for thinking that benchmark might be slightly miscalibrated.
As others have pointed out, Fuente currently has a 2-1 record against both of those programs. You are literally talking about a completely arbitrary assessment of our chances in a couple of games nearly 5 months before football season starts.
Well, even Gabby Jay beat Glass Joe.
You haven't been following Virginia Tech football long enough if you are ever overly confident heading into a game against Pitt and a game at BC. We historically struggle with both those teams especially on the road, but heading into his fourth season, Fuente is 2-1 against both of them so he's done well. As far as the others you mentioned, I haven't seen any logical person on here overly worried about GT and Miami is a toss up. We've been in contention for the coastal 2 out of 3 years and took Clemson to the wire in the ACC chamionship game in '16. I get that last year sucked, but the sky is falling narrative is getting old after one bad year.
Edit: Because i know whats coming. Criticism is fine and warranted after last year, but we've got to look big picture and not let last year paint the entire picture for what Fuente has done so far at Tech.
VT's preseason S&P+ ranking (based on 2018 year end S&P+, returning players, recruits, and attrition) is 30. Miami is 11 spots ahead of us, and UVA is 11 spots behind us. ND is at 14. Everyone else is (literally) at least 20 spots behind us. Thus, I'd recommend the following changes:
Barring further injury or attrition, more than 3 regular season losses is a bad season.
If we're being honest it seems fairly obvious that you've already decided you want a new coaching staff.
If we are successful against our easiest schedule since joining the ACC I will be all about it. You'll be content going 6-6?
For me there's a significant difference between being content and firing the coaching staff. Also I don't agree that it's reasonable to judge a coaching in a vacuum based purely on wins and losses rather than considering the circumstances contributing to the results on the field. The Browns only had one winning season under Bill Belichick but it seems pretty obvious that firing him was a terrible decision.
But is one over LOLUVA? If there was ever a year to continue the streak, this is it. I hope we win by 90.
Modern Warfare 2 > all the Halos combined
Halo 3 was one of the best multiplayer games ever. MW2 isn't even the best Cod
Culturally speaking, Virginia Tech is not imbued with a strong commitment/desire to win(ning) at the highest levels of Division 1 athletics. Decisions are primarily motivated by localized notions of what's "good enough" and emotional connections to the past. Hokie revenue sport programs aren't set up to be serious contenders for conference or national championships. Eventually, as more aggressive, forward thinking athletic departments further separate themselves by achievement and finance, a decision point will arise whereby VT will self-select out of top-tier competition.
(Same goes for the ACC under its' current leadership)
Yeah, well. Monkeys make shitty astronauts.
Is this really a thread? This is so easy to win.
Unpopular opinion:
LOLUVA ATHLETICS ARE BETTER THAN VIRGINIA TECH ATHLETICS.
/endthread
I think you're missing the point.
You should be giving an unpopular opinion that someone might actually have.
it's for opinions you yourself believe that you know the majority doesn't agree with.
Going on the theme of music: Tarja was just as limited vocally as Anette, just in the opposite direction.
Going on the theme of food: St Louis style pizza is superior to New York style
Going on the theme of movies: Kuzco was the best Disney princess and Casablanca was just ok...not legendary
Lol I remember Nightwish
They have a new lead singer, the best of the three vocalists. If you thought they were worth a listen then, I think you should give them a new listen, especially their live stuff. They still don't churn out an album as frequently as necessary to stay relevant, but what else could you expect from Finland.
Virginia Tech will be a basketball school in 20 years
My unpopular opinion: Football will no longer be the most popular sport in this country in 25 years so I could see most/all schools being "basketball schools" in 20 years.
Unpopular opinion: I like Carol Lee donuts because donuts, but they are definitely not worthy of the cult following that they have.
She is banned from Lot 18 now right?
Nope! She is a keeper of Lot 18.
How? Cake donuts are the only good kind of donuts and Carol Lee's are among the best I've had anywhere in the country.
You need to continue your trek on down 81 to Bristol and stop at Blackbird's for their donuts.
Leg for Blackbird's.
Therefore, Cake > Pie
That should get this thread really rolling.
Do they make pie donuts? Cake donuts are the best because they don't need glazed and other shit to make them edible.
I'm a quintessential part of Lot 18 now. You can never ban me!
This is some power mad type stuff right here /s
I pity you for having taste buds that won't let you properly enjoy them
Note that I didn't say I dislike Carol Lee, I've just had better donuts elsewhere 🤷♀️
From another thread:
Engineering undergrad at tech isn't that hard. People just say it is to justify how hard they personally had to work to make up for lack of sufficient "academic prowress"
🧐🧐🧐
Architecture wasn't hard. It was time consuming.
In Blacksburg, though?
EDIT: LOL this was supposed to go under the carol lee comment about better donuts being elsewhere
I switched from comp eng to EE because in EE I could just do math problems for an hour and be done while comp eng had people working every waking minute programming. You just have to know the tricks of the trade.
okay, I've been scrolling past this comment for almost 5 days now and I have to say it. Isn't this
kind of what....you know....makes a class easier or harder??
Not hard compared to what? It's definitely more challenging material than 90% of other undergrad majors at VT. I barely graduated from VT ME, failed two classes on the way, and avoided failing a third due to a tremendously helpful curve. I don't think I'm a genius, but I found high school somewhat easy (I did well in AP classes/tests).
I think the major challenge is that there aren't many good teachers, so students have to teach themselves. Growing up, I never had to teach myself material, or 'learn how to learn' - teachers would work through the problems with students until it was clear. You just don't have that level of support from most professors at VT (at least in engineering where most view teaching undergrads as a second or third priority).
Now, you could argue that I wasn't very smart in high school if I never had to teach myself new material (and I will not disagree), but I think everyone would agree it's a lot easier to teach yourself Marketing than it is Dynamics.
I think requiring engineering students to teach themselves is by design. The reason being a huge part of the profession is being able to push through complex situations while still knowing your limits. Some things are cookie cutter but most projects require doing something different than you ever have before. Anyway, just my two cents.
1000% agree. I'm just saying engineering is significantly more difficult to teach oneself than most other areas of academia.
Tacos aren't worthy of the hype
Dude, Taco Bell doesn't count as tacos.
I said nothing about Taco Bell. Tacos in general.
Still, you're eating the wrong tacos.
I'm not. Good, not worth the hype. Would rather have Mexican food in pretty much any other form.
But...it's all the same ingredients, prepared the same way and just plated differently (if you're at one of those cheapo tex-mex restaurants anyways)
which is exactly why they aren't worth the hype.....
If you're at El Rod's or somewhere similar, then you're right. If you're at a good mexican restaurant, or food truck, then you're wrong.
Also, if tacos al pastor, tacos de carne asada, and fish tacos aren't being included in the tacos conversation, you're wrong. Those three alone raise the taco profile significantly.
Technically, it does since it has both soft and hard tacos.
Soft tacos > hard tacos
I agree here. Hard tacos are just nachos with extra hassle.
I'm sure this will be unpopular, as I see it so often - Any grown man that uses the term "natty" instead of national championship. It's not cute. It's not amusing. It's cloying. It makes you sound like a 13 year old girl who is thinks she's being "cutesy" while giggling "tee-hee." And it's been used to death. If you need to abbreviate, just use NC, and stop trying to be cute like a pre-teen girl.
Thank you, correct, and Amen.
Bourbon is the worst form of alcohol.
95% of craft beers are gross, gimmicky, and designed for people that don't like real beer.
JJ is a better qb than Willis.
I feel like I've found my soulmate. Can we get married?
For the bourbon comment
1-That would be tequila
2-Bigtime agreed
3-meh they both have their strong suits and their weak suits
^^^ is drinking the wrong tequila ^^^
Get some Casamigos and then report back to the thread
Any 100% Agave tequila works for margaritas, and margaritas are a damned fine drink.
Sounds like you haven't tasted good bourbon.
Before I agree with point 2, what do you consider a real beer
I agree that IPAs have gone off the rails and are borderline ridiculous at this point. The original British Pale Ales and IPAs tasted nothing like the ridiculously overhopped American versions craft breweries are making today. A good IPA has its place, but it's going overboard at this point.
I've come to really appreciate most all beer styles, but I really love German beer styles for a few different reasons. First, those breweries have been making beer almost forever. Secondly, simplicity in ingredients (just water, malt and wheat if a Weiss beer, hops, and yeast). Very simple recipes perfected over centuries. They don't go crazy on the hops and other ingredients. Some of the best lagers and wheat beers you can find.
Correct. If it has flavor, you don't have to overhop it.
Jesus IPAs are to beer what Clear Channel is to radio. German and German-style beers are tops on my list these days too. Devils Backbone (yes I know AB/InBev owns them, but still) has a tasty Maibock out right now. I've been looking for an actual German version but I suppose I'll have to actually wait for May.
DB Maibock is excellent. Most of their beers are very true to form traditional German recipes. Their brewmaster specializes in German styles.
Whenever I'm in Blacksburg, I love stopping by Vintage Cellar and raiding the German beer section. Was just recently in Munich, and a maßkrug of Augustiner Brau Edelstoff Export Lager was so on point. Also highly recommend anything that Ayinger makes. Excellent dunkelweizen.
It's almost as if people have different taste buds or something.. I do agree that IPAs have saturated the market to a point where they make up over half of most brewery's taplists, but they're still delicious. Also, there are styles of IPAs which have lower IBUs. Not all of them are hop bombs.
The point we're making is that they're fine, but disproportionate. I would bet that while most people might notice some difference, they couldn't pick their IPA out of a lineup.
There are a ton of different styles and variations of IPAs.
English, Rye, West Coast, New England, Double, Triple, Session, Imperial, Black, Grapefruit, etc..
It seems like the haters in this thread think all IPAs are extremely hoppy West Coast IPAs.
Oh I definitely think that a good IPA has its place. I'm not against the style, but so many IPAs out there are just very gimmicky west coast hop bombs as you mention. But there are definitely some very good ones out there. I personally prefer the English-style pale ales. Can definitely do a Grapefruit Sculpin from time to time as well. I just mourn the fact that so many people think all craft beer is IPA because of how prevalent they are in the market. Some great lagers that a lot of people would love if they're pretty set on only macrolagers.
For sure. I enjoy every style of beer out there. I just had a big beer weekend in Austin and was refreshed with the variety out there. I went to Austin Beer Garden Brewing and was very impressed with their offerings. They mostly focus on lagers/pilsners and they do a damn fine job. I also got out to Jester King for the first time, and that place blew my socks off with their lambics and wild ales. It was awesome to introduce my friends to a ton of styles they had never tried.
The point wasn't that there aren't some good ones, but that there are also plenty of other options. We're over-IPAed, and sometimes (actually, often) like to drink something else.
Lots of people don't actually like the taste of hops. To me it tastes like some combination of soap and Pine-Sol... much like some people can't stand cilantro.
It's taken me a week to try and figure out how you could be so wrong about bourbon, and how to argue. But all I can come up with there is "you fuckin serious....?"
Ok. I got it now. THEY'RE NOT KIDS! They're legal, actual, factual, literal adults. They should've started getting used to the consequences of losing games from fans and spectators back in HS. There.
Mrs07Hokie offers hers:

If you need a good divorce attorney, lemme know, I know a guy
Having a professional college coach should be an impermissible benefit. I never had the chance to have Frank teach me how to throw a football. It's not fair to the non athlete students. All coaches should be volunteers.
Since it's illegal to put limits on coaching contracts you just make them an amateur.
Tony Bennett's offense is beautiful to watch.
unpopular opinion... some people spend way to much time on TKP
I need to spend less time on your mom.
really? why the personal attack?
Rails should NEVER be consumed.
Under NO circumstances should anyone consume a rail.
Yes.
Rails should always be consumed. Multiple, in fact. We would not get along. See my Avatar....
I experienced my first rail yesterday. It was not an enjoyable experience. I did finish it-- much to my unhappiness. I was told that they got better when you got to Foxridge on the cup... My husband and friends lied!
Why would anyone think rails are a good idea and consume them willingly?
Why would we not get along?
A rail isn't exactly pleasant to taste unless you've already been drinking, particularly the regular rails. That's also why its blackout in a cup, you generally have one last. I prefer red bull rails as they taste better and help keep you awake. Probably also make your internal organs go haywire. Interestingly enough, rails used to be bigger and less expensive.
I was joking that we wouldn't get along because it's rare that I go Blacksburg without drinking a rail. Most I've had in one day was five. I can still put down two if I get the urge. I did so after the W&M game last year. Woke up in my truck and the aftermath of psychological, emotional and physical destruction was impressive.
You can have them! If I am going to be drinking, I at least want to have something that tastes good.
They taste great after bourbon or a gin and tonic, or just about anything else for that matter.
After yesterday, I think the fake rail recipe with gasoline, rubbing alcohol, bleach, fingernail polish remover, and whatever other random ingredients thrown in would taste better than a real Rail.
Fake? That is the recipe.
I've tasted craft beers that would be worse than that combo.
See... this is why we wouldn't get along!
AS long as I can drink something enjoyable, we would get along fine.
I think everyone should pony up 80 dollars for Joe. This site has been fan-goddamn-tastic year in and year out. Y'all are great people but I can't imagine that $80 is really that hard to justify helping this site and all the work the guys do on our behalf.
The numbers always work out, Hokies. Throw Joe some love - sweet, green, platonic love.
Buzz Williams was a piece of shit who only used us for his own personal gain and the dumped us off the second it benefitted him the most.
Well yeah, but you forget we used him too.
I've got a couple (apologies if I've missed either already mentioned above):
1. While some good-humored fun is fine, actually hating or wishing ill upon UVA is just hateful and unhealthy.
2. It's perfectly fine to reduce how much you give or how often you attend VT games when the team isn't winning at 1999-2010 levels. It's an entertainment expense to a lot of us, even if it's classified as charitable giving.
Travon "Dragon" McMillan was a vastly superior tailback than Peoples.
Yeah but Peoples had the best TD catch.
Moving Farley from receiver to secondary was a dumbshit move.
Is that actually unpopular though...?
There is nothing compelling about the '99-early 2000s all maroon uniforms. They're a lazy design that people like because we had a good team and beat Miami wearing them in 03.
The mid/late 2000s uniforms (with the pinstriping) were by far our best, including the single orange sleeve. If we wouldn't have lost to Miami in 05 wearing them, they'd be regarded much, much higher.
Unpopular opinion threads are a thinly veiled invitation for attention seekers to say they don't like things that people generally have positive feelings toward. Yes, this included.
Lol I was going to call you out until I got to the last sentence. Well done.
The Incredibles is the greatest superhero movie ever made.
The Night King is going to end up winning the battle for the Iron Throne. Also I have zero expectations for this season since the last one sucked.
QP is not the savior of the program and is, at best, a poor-man's Logan Thomas. Less athletic, weaker arm, just as inaccurate.
And this is why you should give to the Hokies club. Do you want to be known as a poor man? I think not, we need average schlubs Logan Thomas's if we want to win more game. Donate today!
QP2 has a cannon...
The two new Tame Impala songs aren't good. They're undercooked ideas for songs, and have cheesy production
I'm fine with them as one-offs, but would be disappointed if they represent the overall direction of the next album.
Stars Wars is horrible and there is nothing left to say about it.
My body is a gift from the ethereal plain and everyone wants to see me naked.
Dude, STOP SENDING DICK PICS!!!
This is supposed to be unpopular opinions...
Oh this is, my wife does not share my feelings on this subject.
Young Frankenstein is not funny.
Yeah. That's an unpopular opinion.
Sean Glennon was a terrible QB with a weak arm.
No that was the popular opinion.
Could not disagree more. Was he the best? No, but he was good. A terrible QB would not have won the 2007 ACC Championship against BC and Matt Ryan. By the way he was the MVP of the 2007 ACC Championship game. He played under some difficult circumstances, over conservative and predictable play calling, and having to share snaps with one of the best QBs to play at VT. What good does it do the program to disparage players like this.
You must not have read the title of the forum topic. Also, absolutely ZERO chance he wins without T-Mobile. Also, I'd say it was more of a combined TEAM effort than individual.
People who stand within 5 ft of the baggage carousel in the airport are some the worst, most inconsiderate people anywhere.
I'll explain. If everyone took 3 steps back and kept a clear zone around the conveyor it would be easy to see the baggage for a far larger percentage of people, the front row would contain more people, you could approach and unload your bags easier. There is literally no downside, it wouldn't change a damn thing for the selfish mouth-breathers pressed up against the carousel or elbowing their way through the crowd.
It boggles my mind that airports don't put a line on the ground just to suggest this idea. This probably isn't even an unpopular opinion but I have been traveling all weekend and it's just so annoying to me.
Simple things like advising people to take three steps back around the baggage carousel are against the prime directive of torturing travelers.
Those travelers who stand too close to the carousel are probably the same people who stand too close in the security line and breathe on you, as if that's going to get them through the line faster. I mean, take a step back already.
Likewise the people who crowd the gate when PreBoarding is called and they are in group "there's no fucking way you're carrying that bag on the plane" are likely the same people practically standing on the conveyor belt at baggage claim. Both are the absolute worst.
My two things that I absolutely do when traveling:
1) Check my bag so that I don't have to fight for overhead bin space.
2) Stand back from the baggage claim and will wait to pick up my bag when it is closest to the person who is standing right next to the baggage claim. I will usually have a loud "excuse me" to let them know to get the fuck away.
I feel like ive seen a line on the ground at some airport and people are just jerks and crowd up front anyway.
I like to walk in a circle around the carousel in a direction that is counter to that which the carousel is moving. This increases the bags I can view per second. As soon as I see my bag, cut through the crowd and grab it as soon as possible. It's exhilarating. I love airports.
"For Whom the Bell Tolls" is better than "Enter Sandman".
No Leaf Clover >>>> For Whom the Bell Tolls
There are dozens of Metallic songs better than Enter Sandman.
...But there's also every song on St. Anger so it could be a lot worse.
The Key Play should be a pay only site.
The Athletic is worth the subscription.
Only children should be able to have ketchup on their hot dogs/sausage
Also only children should be able to prefer a hot dog without onions.
Game of Thrones was way more entertaining when it was focused on political intrigue and diplomacy. It has become trash since the introduction of more cliched fantasy elements.
Nickleback is only hated because of social pressures. No one hates Creed, Staind, Switchfoot, or any of the other copy paste rock bands of the late 90's in the same way.
Most of the top leg earners don't actually post valuable conversation material. They pander to virtue signaling and hackneyed jokes to stay relevant.
Joe cares too much about keeping everybody happy. Locking favorites like giftory, foerensics, and French reviews behind a paywall would drive TKPC. There is still the FAM threads for community celebration.
Using pictures of Kristen's Bell is 100% pandering to my interests.
Total and complete babe.
Dax, you're so lucky.
Umm, yeah. Everyone does hate Creed just as much, if not more than Nickelback. The only reason it seems that way to you is that Creed has gotten so old and culturally irrelevant that they pretty much fell out of the collective consciousness when Nickelback came along to claim their throne.
I beg to differ. The only reason they are not vocally hated as much as Nickleback is because no one remembers them anymore. They make essentially the same god awful sounds.
here's one that I was scared to put in my first post: Game of Thrones has always been trash
Also, I'm going to have to agree with those above me about Creed. They absolutely are/were hated in the same way as Nickelback, but the latter has had more staying power. Though Scott Stapp is the only scruff rock meme anyone will ever need.
Strong disagree. I hated Creed when they burst onto the scene, hated Creed even more when forced to listen to them by my now-wife, and hate Creed today. Staind never bothered me that much, though they were a pretty obvious Alice In Chains knock-off.
America's obsession with Tiger Woods coming back and winning the Masters is absurd and slightly revolting considering his past transgressions of cheating on his wife.
I've seen several photos of men I know holding their young sons up in celebration in front of the TV with Tiger winning it yesterday. Uhhhh, this is who you want your son to celebrate? A jerk who cheated on his wife with 20 plus women?
I get the love of a good redemption story but no thanks, I won't celebrate the guy, particularly if I had a son that I need to teach values to.
You know, some people are able to separate off-field/course and on-field/course lives...

These people out there should not be our heros, worshiped like gods. They should be admired for their prowess in their respective athletic endeavors.
Totally agree, most of them shouldn't be role models.
As several folks have told me, golf is a family game that is passed down between generations. A post further up in this thread said something similar. I'm seeing a lot of people fawn over Tiger like he is one and that's what I find disconcerting.
By these statements, I can only assume you feel the same way about Michael Vick?
Yes, I don't hear "Tiger Woods" without thinking about him cheating on his wife and I don't hear "Michael Vick" without thinking about dog fighting.
Sure, me neither, and I'm as big a dog lover as there is, what he did was awful. He went to jail, served more time than many rich & famous people do for far more serious crimes. He paid his debt to society, and more. He rebuilt his career, if you do a google search for his name nowadays, all you will see is positive results. Latest story, he donated to renovate the Boy & Girls Club in Newport News. I would argue that Vick is a person to be celebrated, as someone who has learned from past mistakes, and is now using his time, money, and influence for good.
Agree completely on Vick doing good now. Vick has turned his life around and done positive things for society with his transgressions. I think he's a great example of the justice system actually working and I have defended him on that. Would I celebrate him and hold my kid up in front of him like he's an idol? No.
Back to Tiger, has he done lots of positive things for society since acting like a jackass in his marriage and getting a DUI? I honestly don't know because I don't follow golf but it certainly hasn't hit my normal news cycle. (I acknowledge that MV7s positives wouldn't hit a casual football sports fan's news cycle either.) I'm told he smiles a bit more on the golf course. Woobedo. I listened to the radio today and a fan said they cried when he won the Masters on Sunday. Wow, talk about misguided priorities in my humble unpopular opinion. There's a lot more important people and things to save those emotions for than Tiger Woods.
You can be one of the most popular athletes in any sport and have some shitty parts about you in your personal life.
You can aspire to be like certain aspects of a person and not others. ESPN doesn't make money off showing good people playing sports, they make money showing the best athletes playing sports.
Golf is better when Tiger is playing at a high level and I have no logical explanation why.
The focus on Tiger hugging his son as some kind of feel good piece felt odd and forced to me. Every major winner hugs their family coming off the course. It is moving, but equally so for all winners.
I would guess that there is a pretty high percentage of professional athletes with skeletons in their closet. Athletes should not be role models anyway unless you know them in that way.
Tiger was a child prodigy. He shot in the 70's at 8 years old. He was the most hyped junior golfer of all time, and in his first major as a pro, he won by 12 shots- at Augusta, where not only was he hitting sand wedges into par 5's, he looked a lot different than everyone there except the wait staff. Couple that with his fist pumps, athletic physique, and the exciting way he attacks - or used to - attack a course and you have a phenomenon. Tiger will be the most popular golfer in the world until he dies. Unless of course some young, different looking, non-robotic prodigy comes along and breaks Tigers records. Don't hold your breath. People that don't know what a bogey is will watch golf when Tiger is playing. That fact annoys some true golf fans/players when a guy like Charl Swartzel birdies the last 4 holes to win the masters and nobody cares. Tiger is polarizing in that way as well.
Yep, and if any of you saw Tiger in an elevator, he would ignore you and pretend you didn't exist. This guy made Navy Seals pick up a huge bar tab, after he "trained" with them. This guy is not a good "guy"- not at all. He doesn't tip, he doesn't pay for rooms in vegas, he demands huge comps and entitlements. He has no class off the golf course by many first hand accounts. Until very recently, he would refuse to speak to other tour players that were not his "pals". He fired Butch Harmon on the range at the british open as if he barely knew him. For the first 15 years of his career he lied to the media whenever he could, even about mundane topics. He is very much Tiger Woods, and you are not. Great golfer... top 2 of all time.. but that's where it stops. He is not a great "guy" by any stretch.
I agree with all of this and I will still watch him every time he plays...
Tiger will be given the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest honor a civilian can receive. "The Medal of Freedom recognizes individuals who have made "an especially meritorious contribution to the security or national interests of the United States, world peace, cultural or other significant public or private endeavors," according to the executive order designating the award."
I can think of about a million people ahead of Tiger more deserving of the award.
Now I understand this comes directly from Trump and I understand this is stepping into the realm of politics, but it perfectly illustrates my disgust with America's obsession with Tiger Woods. Instead of Tiger, perhaps the award could be given posthumously given to the young man from Purdue who died fighting cancer and rooting for his underdog team to beat OSU and continually provided a positive attitude to the world.
Louder than Life 2019 lineup is a bunch of washed up bands looking to squeeze every last cent out of their glory days. Most of the bands haven't been relevant in 15-25 years. The lineup screams (pun intended) old Chevy Camaros, sleeveless band tees, and Camel cigarettes.
Like who?
I'm as much a fan of the genre as the next guy, but if we're being honest with ourselves:
Gn'R
Godsmack
Staind
Marilyn Manson
Breaking Benjamin
Chevelle
Three Days Grace
STP
Sum 41
Crystal Method
Andrew WK
Ice Cube
arguably some others too
granted, I would still love to go, lotta bands I used to love in there...but they really haven't been relevant in a while
Chevelle I would argue have gotten better and better since their early days
Use whatever advanced bullshit stat you want, Paul Johnson teams can't fucking throw the ball. There I said it. Matter of fact, the Oakland A's never winning jack shit of significance proves that advanced stats suck overall.
I got another one: tip 20% or kindly starve to death (they tell me it's the cheapest meal plan). As someone who worked in food service delivering pizzas for longer than he would have liked, it was astounding and enraging to me how many people stiff, or even try to tell me that being a server is harder than making deliveries. This is just not true when you have to risk life and limb on the road to get an order where it needs to go.
You might risk limb every now and then in a normal kitchen, but never your life unless you're a complete moron. It's the "life" part that makes delivery driving worthy of the same tipping principles you would use in a restaurant. A driver makes a few more dollars an hour than a server, but tips still provide the lion's share of income.
Undertipping I can sometimes understand, but stiffing is never acceptable. That's someone's financial situation you're actively making worse, because you're mad and refuse to step outside of yourself to see that a lot of the time, what you're mad at isn't wholly the fault of the person you're punishing.
What is an acceptable tip for a carry-out scenario, as a food service veteran? Barring terrible service I always tip 20% for anything that involves the server/driver addressing my needs directly, but what if I go to the counter and pick up a bag of food at a place that has a sit-down/delivery option (and therefore a tipping structure)?
I usually do 15% in this case. If the person I deal with at the counter during the pickup is exceptional service wise and shows they are appreciative of me as a customer, boost to 20% (they'll likely remember you if/when you come back as well, so you can pay it forward a bit as well).
A place that does carry out is literally doing the bare minimum of what a restaurant can do. They don't even have to bring it to a table. Even McDonald's goes a step further with the convenience of driving up to get your food. (Nobody is tipping them). Why would a 15-20% be a consideration for someone walking up to a counter and buying food from an establishment making and selling food?
So what do you tip actual servers and waitstaff?
I'll tip (maybe 10%) for carry-out if it's at a restaurant, where the bartender takes time away from their "real" job to package up food for export, but tipping for carry-out pizza seems to create an expectation problem.
I'll absolutely tip for delivery if the food arrives in good shape.
For me, actual servers and wait-staff are hardly ever tipped below 20%, and generally around 25% for exceptional service. If I am ignored due to it being busy or understaffed, I don't fault the wait-staff and still tip 20%. However, in extreme cases of rudeness or bad service, the tip will be around 10-15% or nothing at all if the situation calls for it (twice in my life so far).
Delivery tip is not generally a % but a flat $5 (more if the restaurant does not charge an additional deliver fee)
I was more asking the person who tips 20% for carry-out meals.
In cases of rudeness, they get a lesser or NO tip. In the case of just bad service, it depends on if it was intentional or not, but more like 10-15%. For good service, 15-20% is fine, depending on the cost of the meal. I'll plus up if it seems like the right thing to do.
The whole point of tipping, however, is the ability to send a message with a tip. If you always tip 20%, no message is sent.
Though I find that in exceptional cases (good or bad), speaking to the manager can help future patrons. For food that's prepared incorrectly (or ruined), I'll address with the server. If they can sort it out to my satisfaction, they'll get an additional tip. If they try and bury the problem, a lesser tip. If they're phoning it in, a lesser tip. If a manager comes by to make sure it got worked out, I'll know they care about service.
Dining out isn't just about the food, it's about the overall experience. If I have a good one or a bad one, I'll reflect it in the tip. If the night is ruined, will likely affect both the tip and my desire to return to that establishment, so they deserve to know why.
But the wait staff don't think that much about the tipping, and neither should you have to. It's mostly a "gut feel" thing.
No it's not. It's a psychological ploy to pay people less than minimum wage and make your food cheaper. That way if they make bad tips they think it's their fault.
A lot of people make a lot of money on tips.
If wait staff make bad tips, they either work in the wrong location or they aren't getting the message. At a nice restaurant in a big city, if your tips are lousy you should be asking why.
Tipping is an archaic practice and should be abolished. Waitstaff, delivery drivers, housekeepers, etc. absolutely deserve to be paid a fair wage. However, that wage should be negotiated with and solely provided by the employer.
The hidden fees tacked on to some services, especially food delivery services, are outrageous and misleading to customers. Some of these food delivery services have menus with inflated prices, charge a flat delivery fee, tack on a hidden service/processing fee, and then you're still expected to add a 20% tip to that? Drivers absolutely deserve their fair share and I don't believe they get a cut of any of that, which is total BS. Ultimately, I find it difficult to accept that it's reasonable for customers to pay up to 70% in fees for delivery of a meal for 2.
Agreed on all counts.
Counterpoint: Up the prices, pay your staff a decent livable wage, and eliminate tips.
Oh, and bundle the tax into your advertised price.
So like almost everywhere but here.
yup
Employees shouldn't have to work for tips to pay the bills. Their salary should be enough to pay the bills, but in the US most jobs that rely on tips make you something paltry like $4 an hour. That's absurd and insulting, and should be done away with. Plus, there's no way in hell your salary should depend on how expensive a meal the customer ordered, and it shouldn't get slashed in half if they're taking advantage of a coupon or a deal.
Alum, I agree with your livable wage statement, but I still think you should have some performance based financial incentive. If a member of the wait staff is providing crappy service, he/she shouldn't get paid the same thing as someone who is a superstar. Same thing with teachers. While I think teachers should be paid more, I don't think all teachers should be paid the same across the board.
At my workplace, performance management is not handled by Customers, but rather the business and management teams. The better the performance, the higher the bonus/raise. Sure I work in an Engineering field and am not customer facing, but I would argue that a restaurant could manage it the same way, they just choose to pass that burden/cost to customers
Have to say I'm glad my pay when I was a working firefighter wasn't based on customer satisfaction or feedback.
This is really easy - right before signing your credit card bill, you have to take a 5 second survey "How was your service today? Excellent, good, mediocre, bad?" Structure bonuses around that.
The reality is, there's very little correlation between how well people tip and the quality of their service (there's a couple freakonomics episodes on this). People who tip 20% typically tip 20% across the board. Same goes for 15% tippers, 10% tippers, etc. It's a myth that tipping results in performance based incentives.
can confirm. I had orders that couldn't possibly have gone better and got stiffed, and I had late orders that approached (or even surpassed) 20%. It's all about what kind of person the customer is.
I'd argue the generation possibly has more to do with what kind of tip one gets than the kind of person. For instance, I have friends that have worked at Crackle Barrel for years and always complain about the tipping, or lack thereof, of older patrons. And, personally, I absolutely cannot go to dinner with some older members of my family and let them tip, no matter who pays for the rest of the ticket.
I guess....im just talking about me personally and the people that i know...i absolutely tip based on the service i get...i wonder if they have ever done a survey of waiters and waitress based off of race and economic status...not trying to go down this rabbit hole...but i think it would be interesting to take a look at that..
I do hate that tip is a % of the total bill. Just because I order something expensive, or cheap, doesn't effect the overall service.
Second this. Also, why should an excellent server at an Applebee's make wayyyyy less money than a mediocre server at an expensive restaurant based solely on the fact that the food is cheaper?? Some people don't have the option of working in a more expensive restaurant.
Explain?
Lots of towns don't even HAVE expensive restaurants to work at. In certain places a Ruby Tuesday is about as fancy as it's gonna get. You can argue maybe they should leave that town, but it gets way more complicated then. And still wouldn't really answer why a server at an expensive restaurant should automatically make more money than one at a smaller restaurant for doing the same thing, based solely on the price of the food they're bringing you.
Well, if that's the case, isn't the cost of living different? Small town versus large city with fancy restaurant?
Same goes to all aspects of careers. People with higher costs of living in bigger cities make more than people in rural areas doing similar jobs.
If we're assuming fancy restaurant=expensive city or cheap restaurant means being in a low cost of living area, then maybe? It's hard to say if there's data to support that premise. But let's say there is one expensive restaurant in your town and lots of cheaper places, SOMEBODY has to work at those cheaper places (there are only so many expensive restaurant server positions to go around), and people that can't afford to eat at the fancy one need servers for the places they can go. Does it make sense to pay people half the salary living in the same place? And even if that doesn't bother you, does it make sense for your salary to fluctuate based on the price of the food you're carrying? You're doing the same job every time, but all of a sudden that steak costs twice as much, so now you should be paid twice as much? Or you got lucky with a big spending table so you should make twice what the people doing your same job WITH you are making based on nothing more than the good fortune of having rich guests at your table? The whole % tipping thing just creates a lot of salary differences with no rational basis at all.
Then the best servers end up at the fancy (more expensive) restaurant. And they will make more. If they can't cut it there, they go back to the other places. See professional sports...the better players make more money.
This does not happen at all in most professions.
The people who happen to get a break at the right time and place end up making more. Being the "best" often has little to do with it.
Untrue. Tell me that money managers that are better than their colleagues don't make more money. Or engineers. Or coders. Or lawyers. There is a baseline for most, but the cream rises to the top. And even if it's inter-department, think promotions and raises...people move up the ladder within as well. It's not about breaks.
But the cutoff has to be somewhere and two people can be equally good, but there aren't enough openings. One makes half the other cuz bad luck or whatever
For a minute. Over the long run, that won't remain. Unless the person with the lower pay is lazy and doesn't take a chance. It's not all about luck. And it's called work for a reason. The cutoff is the effort and what they do with opportunities.
Yes, two people can be equally as good. But they won't always make the same money. And not everyone lives to make the most money...they are driven by other things in life.
It's hard to get a job at the better restaurants, and they tend to hire people who can provide the kind of service their patrons expect.
At a nice restaurant, you're paying for better quality food, ambiance, and service (or some combination of all that). The expectations are different, and the pay is different. People absolutely work their way into those jobs, and have to work hard enough to stay there. The standard for tipping is different there, too. People expect better service.
These comments can all be generalized or tailored to other professions as well.
It's the beauty of capitalism and the free market.
This is all well and good, but it still doesn't justify why I should pay a server more or less from one meal to another for the exact same service, just because I got the filet mignon instead of the sirloin.
Maybe the filet isn't for you then...
The servers job doesn't change at the same restaurant based on getting one cut of meat over another.
He's talking about different restaurants.
If you don't want to tip on the bill, then don't. Simple.
In this context I was talking about the same restaurant. And in reality I'm more concerned for the guy making less money than he should because people are buying cheaper steaks, than I am about myself paying more money for the more expensive one.
While that may be true in some cases, there is no guarantee that the better person interviews well. Or that the better person gets along with the boss. Or that the better person "is a straight shooter with upper management written all over them". Or that the better person even is aware of an opening.
Plenty of talented people languish in jobs while people less talented than them are promoted ahead of them for a variety of reasons. Have you never worked for an incompetent boss? Or watched a VP drive a company into the dirt through nothing but incompetence? Or seen nepotism in action?
Likely just the ones who get there first.
The people who are the best and work the hardest tend to end up at the right place at the right time.
I believe the saying is: "The harder I work, the luckier I get."
Exactly.
And I always say, "Life is full of choices."
If you make less and do nothing about it...well.......
I agree that this would be vastly preferable to the way things currently are. But until it comes to pass, my OP stands.
I never tip based on percentages. I tip based on performance and what I think that person deserves in the amount of time they were serving me. If I stiff a server (very rare) it is because the service was just that bad and they didn't deserve a dime. People who blindly tip 15%-20% no matter what hurt the overall quality of service for all customers. Tips should not be a guarantee but an incentive. A good server is one that I cannot remember after the meal, but one that I have zero complaints about.
Yes, poor service is not always the fault of the server, but they'll have to take that up with management and co-workers.
I tip 20% and will go more or less, depending on the service. If they were excellent, I'll tip more, if they were terrible, I'll tip less. But 20% is my starting point, because I know that employee isn't getting paid otherwise.
Nails on a chalkboard > Rage Against the Machine
I am unfamiliar with the band Nails on a chalkboard. Do they have any songs that I may have heard?/s
I haven't heard them, but they must be one kick-ass band.
They were a 1 hit wonder with "Screech and Shout"
This thread is played out.
I would say your mom is played out but these are supposed to be unpopular opinions.
When Journey's don't stop believing comes on, I stop believing.
The best bbq in the USA is found in NYC.
Not so much a comment about how potentially disturbing the thought of this is, but if you put some locations that you feel are a must try HERE then you could be doing a great service to the community!
The best part of NYC is that if it isn't good it won't be open long. My personal favorite place has been open for years is called Blue Smoke. The bourbon lovers here will go wide eyed at the bar. The owners recognized NYC was such a mix of people they help start the NYC bbq festival to attract more people to the bbq scene in the city.
This is randomly the only BBQ place I've been to in NYC. Guess I got lucky.
My unpopular opinion: This team has the talent and the schedule to win 10 games with competent coaching. This team will only manage 8 wins. The excuses will continue gushing in and Fuente will retain some coaches who just aren't pulling their weight at this level.
I truly hope I'm wrong. But until I see otherwise, I'm not convinced that our coaching staff is full of ACC caliber coaches.
Unpopular opinion: People are too used to underachieving Beamer teams to realize Fuente isn't the same coach. He had a run from 2014 to 2017 where he won 38 games and lost 14. Expect the boy to bounce back.
Unpopular opinion : Using alum when referring to any of alumnus, alumna, alumni, or alumnae sounds dumb. If you can't use the proper noun, maybe you should rethink using the word at all.
Unpopular opinion 2: Gritty is a horrible mascot. It scares small children and should be set on fire in the middle of the rink.
Unpopular opinion 3: JJ was a winner for us and the so-called "advanced stats" don't come close to reflecting reality.
It's the unpopular opinion thread. Those are my opinions. And based on the responses, they're unpopular.
Seem pretty on point to me...
About the Led Zep talk.
"Both are great bands. But Zeppelin is an easier listen."
Recently I was able to see Get The Led Out. They are not an imitation band. They are replicators. There are 6 of them and all very talented. They work and succeed at recreating Zep's studio sounds. They will play anything from the catalog and always do an acoustic set. If you are a Zep Head they are a must see! I think they are headed west this summer. Check them out on Y Tube or FB. Blew me away.
