This first defensive player from the Hokies to be named to a watch list, the productive Ashby was named as a preseason candidate along side 91 other players including 4 nominations from Alabama, 3 from LSU, Iowa State, Notre Dame, and Penn State meaning just shy of 1/5 of the candidates come from the previous 5 institutions.
The normally quiet Ashby comes off of a tremendously productive 2018 campaign and looks to anchor the VT D once again.

Ashby seems to be talked about much less than many of our other guys, but he's been a stud for us. Hoping for an even bigger year from him this year
I think his next step forward is to be more disruptive in the backfield. He was very solid making sure nothing got past him last season, but I'm hoping he has a bunch of TFLs this season.
Of course, he did have the most important play any defender had in the backfield last season against UVA. Hoping for more of that.
