Where would you take your 5 official visits?
Mine:
- Virginia Tech: Self explanatory. Go Hokies.
- Texas: Huge following, great education. Several NFL players, and if that didn't work out, probably pretty easy to get a job as UT football alum in Texas.
- USC: Hard to beat Southern Cal weather. Again, great education and NFL pedigree.
- Utah: Beautiful part of the country. Love their current style of play.
- Alabama: While not highly ranked in education, even their 2nd string gets drafted. Hard to be better prepared for the NFL, currently, than Bama.

5* are really just prepping for the NFL, so as nice as the 'good education' sale is, it honestly wouldn't play too much into my decision-making process at that level. I'd focus on NFL-prep and resources, where I'd get treated like a king from fans and girls, and then overall weather and college experience

USC is in Compton. UCLA is just outside of Beverly.
USCs not in Compton. It's not in a great area, but there are far worse neighborhoods in Los Angeles.
Okay...It's next to Compton. But my point was UCLA is a much better zip code.
It's actually a very similar distance from VT to RU. In a city, it's really not close at all.
UCLA is far and away a better neighborhood, but i think USC's campus is nicer. Spent a lot of time on both. USC also has the better football stadium situation.
Both student populations are very well qualified.

IMO Stanford is the best combination of professional opportunity, education, and social life in the country (for athletes and non-athletes alike). It's the only school I'd pick over VT.
I will take your UW and up you to UBC. If their bid to join the NCAA comes to fruition, I cannot think of a better place to live than Vancouver. Plus all the Tim Hortons you could want!
I actually almost included BC in mine. The campus is beautiful, and Boston is a fun town.

Mindset...once you've been there you realize how many distractions there are, football takes a backseat to some extent. General fan apathy is another reason. This is also true in the Pac-12, though to a lesser degree.

I think the location is a deterrent. It's a 5 hour flight just to California. VA is a 10+ hour flight, and that is if it is direct. Plus the campus and stadium are a tropical College Park.
I believe their general policy is that you also have to commit prior to an official visit which keeps the official visits down a bit.

Wow: this was well received. I was rethinking my answer on a more serious note: I'd remove Uva obviously and if I had to choose a fifth option that I really wanted to woo me I think it would UF. If I just wanted a mini vaca... Then I'm going to visit Hawaii.
I think someone else had mentioned why Hawaii doesn't recruit and play better. I think they specifically have a restriction on visits given since it cost so much more. Also their schedule and traveling are a huge deterrence to those that are serious about getting some good exposure.

- VT: I kinda want to see what it feels like to be rolled out the red carpet here

Ultimately I love the NoVa area and would probably go to Tech / Maryland / UVa if I felt most comfortable there; I would want to be close to my family and not playing too far away.

If the end game is to go to the NFL, part of me wants to pick lower tier schools in garbage conferences so you stand out as a baller and your stock appears high.

Ohio State - easy conference, almost guaranteed multiple playoff appearances

If I was going to go back to school today, I would've looked into Arizona State more.
Since I'm from the "back in my day" crowd, I'm assuming that I'm a 5 star guy from the early 90's, social media is not a thing, and I grew up a Hokie.
I wouldn't visit anywhere but Blacksburg. I'd sign, commit, or whatever as soon as first year coach Frank Beamer offered me. The Hokies would be the only team I've ever wanted to play for. It wouldn't have been about boats and hoes, sunshine, sliding boards, or bling. It's all about that VT on my helmet. No need to tease it, or string anybody along.
For real.
1. Bama: great facilities, tradition, meet Saban....then drive back home on the backroads with an empty suitcase to fill with the booster cash.
2. Clemson: nice visit, personal escort, then attend the local church on Sunday and see if I can score momma a new house from the congregation.
3. Miami: Spend the week before with the freaky ho's, party on Nevin's yacht, then sober up for the 'official.'
4. USC: West coast flavor, party with the dumb kids that daddy paid for a 'college experience', and try to get my Hollywood contacts going.
5. Arizona State: #1 hottest coeds.

If you just want a fun visit and northern Europe fits your "search image", one I haven't seen listed but checks way more boxes than one might think is Minnesota.
Minneapolis / St. Paul metro area has a lot to offer. It is just so damn cold in the winter.
Oh, it's well beyond damn cold. Take the official in September. Outstanding food and music scene.
We have friends in Hastings that we visited in July and stayed on their boat for a couple of days. Anchored on the MS river. The water was almost unbearably cold still. I live in MS so it was a welcome respite. But I can't imagine being there in January or February.
I have a sister in law there. Prospective daughter in law is also from there (her parents are currently there). Been there in the severe cold a couple of times...no thanks. Fall is beautiful, though.

Alabama - Best NFL preparation, highest hit rate on turning 5* players into 1st round draft picks by more than double the national average. Insane facilities, best coaching (as long as Saban is there), and lots of hot girls. Dixieland Delight would be pretty cool to experience as a player as well.
Georgia - Athens is far and away the best college town I have ever been to. Lots of cool rivalry games, great facilities, and insane number of hot girls.
USC - Excuse to live in that area for free for 3-5 years while getting a great education with a highly connected and wealthy alumni base? Sign me up. This is probably the only west coast school I would seriously consider for football.
Texas - Austin, big football history/culture, loyal fanbase. If I wanted to live in Texas after football ended I would imagine it's a good start to finding a good job.
LSU - They are CRAZY about football is Louisiana. And as much as I hate Louisiana weather, I LOVE cajun food more than anything in the world. Would be awesome to play in Death Valley as well.
I would just go on unofficials to VT all the time as I am already familiar and would have already been very familiar before getting to recruit age. Same with Clemson, I'd take unofficials.

Very few people mentioned proximity to home and the majority of responses are either blueblood programs or a program with a unique geography.

Do you really not see the irony in people on here (literally Tech alum and diehard fans) who constantly complain about how Fuente can't pull in blue chip recruits not putting Tech in their top 5 in a "what if" scenario?
It's a pretty interesting case study, isn't it.
Except a lot of us have specifically pointed out that we would be taking many unofficials to VT as they are already familiar, and much like many real recruits, using OV's as free trips despite not necessarily having serious interest at that school.
Obviously, in real life, the VT staff would be pushing very hard for this hypothetical 5* version of ourselves to take an OV, and it would be weird for someone to not take an OV to the school that is leading in their recruitment.
Honestly, it's a little annoying that someone would find a way to make this fun hypothetical thread into a defense of Fuente and staff's recruiting while we have one of the worst P5 recruiting classes in the country.
How many 5-stars have there been from VA in the past 5 years? How many of them had VT in their top 5 schools as of their junior year? There's a huge assumption about VT leading...........or even in the running.

And i find it annoying when we're celebrating a big win over Miami and i have to read "yea but look at the 2020 recruiting class". Someone else made a good post pointing out the irony and he made a comment mocking peope who try to justify why kids don't go here, but sure mine was the annoying post.
I haven't seen all these supposed "yea but look at the 2020 class" comments after the Miami game, but I think the majority of the rational fanbase is in agreement that our recruiting class this year is a really bad look, and that beating Miami by 7 with a +5 turnover differential doesn't suddenly undo everything wrong with the football program.

I've been sailgating once before, definitely worth it. It is entirely as fun as you think it is (as long as it's early enough in the season and the weather is nice). Had to skip the game though as it was the same time as the Battle at Bristol.
Wow! I never knew Washington's stadium was right on the water like that - probably because I've watched all of 2 of their games in my lifetime and they've all been bowl games. That's pretty stunning. Seems like Knoxville, but with cooler weather and fans with teeth and non-blinding t-shirts.
Never been inside UW stadium, but driven by on that bridge several times. Seattle is my favorite geographical area in the states I've been to, would live there 100%

Why would you ever trade down yourtalents for something you get without football - i.e., a degree from any SEC school not named Vandy. I got int tech without football - let's trade up. This years class of QBs shows it doesn't matter where you go to school - great players find it to the NFL if they are good enough. In that light, I go get the most valuable degree possible while playing football.

I've always found it extremely ironic that Miami has been penalized more than anyone in the country, except SMU, for recruiting violations; yet they have probably the easiest sales pitch. South Beach, high profile program, good academics, in the middle of the most fertile hotbed of talent, tons of high profile NFL alums, etc.... the list goes on.
