Let's Go
HOKIES!!!
Hoping it was just hearsay but has anyone else heard King was suspended for the game today?
Yes.
Ah shit. What happened?
Damnit I just talked to his aunt and uncle (football coach) Thursday night too.
Good thing McClease has been killing it. Disappointed that we havent seen King play in ages.
Cue up Dalton Keene again, I guess.
I don't know if he's been suspended. But he's been hurt for a while. Heard he tore his AC joint in his shoulder.
Heard he skipped out on practice and was late to another. Who knows...
Stick it in!!
Let's Go Hokies!
Apparently no Bradburn today. That's gonna hurt us, dude has been borderline all-American this year. I say we just go with thick vick on anything close on 4th down
Thick Vick! That's gold! QP should switch to jersey number 77...you know, double the Vick
THICC Vick.
And double the Vick would be 14. /s
Why?
Groin injury on Thursday. Apparently dressed for warmups and gonna give it a go
So the needed cure is get first downs before we ever need to punt.
Go HOKIES!
Hokietopher representin in the Westgate sportsbook in Vegas.......got my Eddie Royal jersey on!
Does it still smell like 50 years of smoking without proper ventilation in there or have they sorted it out yet
Nope...doesn't smell at all....and thats from a guy who quit in april after 34 years.....
What it does smell like.....is a Hokies victory.......
So...what kind of odds did you get on the money line? +750?
+700
Stay strong, Topher. It's tough (12 years here) but definitely worth it.
NBC is showing the Nats parade. Anyone know how that will affect Hokie coverage?
If it weren't Notre Dame, i'd be worried.
They'll show the game. Won't the parade be over by 2:30?
Edit: Ooops. The parade starts at 2 pm, and is likely the biggest party in Washington for a long time. You may want to consult streaming options if you're in the D.C. area as a backup if your local affiliate is covering the parade.
I'd think it would be hard for NBC not to cover the NBC game. Are you thinking of NBC, or NBC sports? My NBC guide says "Notre Dame vs VT". Looks like NBC Sports is covering the parade.
It won't.
So fucking confusing. I can't wait until cable is gone and I can just pick the game I want to watch regardless of where I'm watching it.
Does anyone know the XM channel? Driving once again through game time
These broadcasters are going to be the worst of all season, we are going to miss the quality of announcing espn brings.
Just go to a bar, that's what I'm doing
oh I'll turn off the sound and will have another game on the 2nd tv
Haven't really scanned the site this week so I don't know if this news is out there yet.
Hearing its going to be Quincy over Hooker, with a lot of Keene in the backfield. Trying to beat them down with a ball control, physical offense.
https://mobile.twitter.com/AndyBitterVT/status/1190689096248811521
Don't know how to embed tweets but looks like it's Quincy that will start
I got you fam
and another Bitter tweet
and another edit: Bitter says John Parker Romo punting in warmups over Bradburn (groin)
Devon with ones interesting
Man to steal a line from the Men In Blazers we are certainly rolling with youth and gonna "play the babies".
Great week to rest injured players, get depth players snaps, and pull an upset before ACC play resumes!
I've decided to play a drinking game by myself where I take a drink every time we suck. I'm hoping to end the game sober, but just in case we're awful I'll probably still be feeling great!
Championship thinking right here
I sure hope you're sober by the end but that's a pretty dangerous game to play with this team this year.
Is that sandman I hear?edit: I'm an idiot
4 fingers in to a bottle of Wikd Turkey Rare Breed. No matter what happens on the field today I win
The drink of choice
That wind is howling...
Like this swirling storm inside?
Man, it looks windy as all get out. After having trouble throwing the ball the bast few weeks, this should continue to hurt ND.
Brian Kelly sounded VERY confident
WHOAH did anyone else hear "the always humorous ACC coastal" from the announcers. Mute button on hello Jon Laaser
I mean is he wrong? I've always like Tirico. He likely has to be a little biased but he is a solid PxP guy.
Shoutout to the referees for that one.
3 & out boys. LET'S GOOOO
Hilarious Farley play but great to get a 3 and out
Farley with the tackle coverage that confused everyone! Great work!
we're starting QP? damn how badly is Hooker injured?
Maybe see what else QP has in a non-ACC game?
I think we are just trying to play to ND weaknesses while allowing Hooker one more week to rest
Enough not to risk him in a non conference prayer game I suppose.
Total guess, but if he's not 100% then why not give him another week when we're back in conference play.
Yeah since this game is house money, no need to risk injury to Hooker if he's not 100 percent yet. We need him down the stretch to win the division. I like throwing QP into the fire and seeing what he's got. We really have nothing to lose here.
Eh, I'll chalk that up to warming up and adjusting to the cold weather but we had two guys with windows for 1st down throws there.
At least when you watch a ND game, they don't even pretend to be unbiased.
They don't get paid to be unbiased lol
Isn't NBC the NotreDame Broadcasting Channel?
Honesty, Mike Tirico is way better than anything we are getting on ACCN. And I know he will be biased because it's ND's network so it doesn't bug me.
Yikes. Not gonna be able to run on this ND team like we did against UNC with QP. Gotta open the playbook a little more if they're gonna go with Quincy.
Another ND lineman banged up. That could make a huge difference for us, their OL is usually the strength of their team
I really hate the idea that this game is meaningless because we can still win the ACC Coastal and get run out of Charlotte by Clemson. This team, and particularly this staff, needs a big boy, statement win. No one we have left on the schedule is that.
Yeah good point. Kind of puts it in perspective when playing a team that chooses not to even play in a conference
I don't think this game is meaningless, but I also don't think it's worth risking the coastal, the bowl streak, or the commonwealth cup just to get one signature win. I'm okay with the coach's decisions to rest recovering players.
Too much time
Going after Farley is an interesting strategy, but it looks to be working, albeit doesn't look sustainable.
ND backup to backup OL is 6'7 307. Our D-line and On-line will sure get tested today. I hope to be proud of the boys
Dax in coverage has an int?!?! The hell?
Fuck. Yes.
DAXXXXXXX!
LETS GO DAX!!!!
Dax got a fax
Way to go Dax!
DAX!!
Dax makes a play in coverage...positivity
Dax couldn't believe that ball came to him
LETS GOOOOO DAXXX!!!!!
Even on PI
Turner getting mugged on that deep pass
Yeah I thought so too
Looked like a lot of contact to me, but it may just be mutual hand fighting
Well it clearly looks like, despite his wonderful touchdown pass against UNC last week, QP has a bit of work to do when it comes to throwing the ball
I thought it was a good looking pass to Turner
How was that not PI?
The replay looked like he got there at the same time.
If by same time you mean early then I agree
Not liking the offensive game plan so far
Did the defender not get there early on Robinson?
VERY early in my opinion
Listening to Tirico and Flutie on this broadcast is painful. Makes ACCNet seem amazing.
We better open the fucking playbook or we're gonna get shit on. ND is gonna put up points
Whew, glad that wasn't picked off.
D gonna have some work cut out for them. Short field.
We are going to get boatraced if QP is this limited in playbook. We are NOT going to manhandle ND with a bunch of sophomore and freshman blockers
not a great punt
2 blatant PI calls missed and our play calling is expectedly conservative (🚮)
Is having our RB turned TE turned RB carry the ball conservative, aggressive, or other?
Desperate.
They're gonna throw like a million times.
Offense looks completely hopeless. I can't wait to see the French review of what ruined the inside running game this particular week.
Safeties are getting torched by TE's
Ashby's fault
It's not the only play we've seen Floyd or Deablo trailing behind.
Our Safeties are liabilities in the Passing game
They're going to exploit that all day
Ashby... bit and left their biggest RZ target uncovered
Not on Ashby. That was Deablo's man & he let him run right past him
Deablo. Bruh.
Ashby
Took the RB. Safety.
Nope, bit on play action abandoning his underneath coverage over the middle. Ashby
Our safeties are garbage. So many blown coverages by Floyd & Deablo this season
Hmm, well lets just get a first down. Baby steps.
They are really attacking the secondary early. This could turn into a blowout early if the offense doesn't do something.
If Ashby is underneath there like he should be he has no throw. Deablo had outside shade
Offense has to show up. ... Kinda wish Hooker were out there, man.
It's all good though, got faith in my boy Quincy.
Deablo's gonna make me drunk
Pollard in on at least 3 snaps
Smart football play there by wheatly.
I just want a few first downs on offense. I'm not expecting to win, just want to see some progression
Wheatley out here exploiting rules for field position...
Wow, that was smart.
Is this really our fucking game plan? Jesus Christ
I just picture CJF and Corny "let's catch them off guard and out QP in there and run the ball and control it"
ND's DC: Sell out on the qb run and hand off make him beat us with his arm....
Hokies offensive staff: speechless after multiple 3 and outs
3 & out seems to be the game plan today.
Offense looking rough so far.
Cornelson has nothing...looks like a long day.
Plz, let him throw.
we can't keep just running up the middle, fuck let QP throw
I think QP has the potential for a very bright future; however, if Hooker is healthy enough to dress out he should be playing.
ND is playing with 5 DL, daring QP to beat them passing....this isn't going well
How many points will we spot them before Willis gets thrown in to chuck it desperately
My guess is infinity. I dont think we are going to see RW again.
Ok we need to seriously open up the offense if we keep QP in. It's entirely predictable right now. We have to let him throw it around some.
Can we please for the love of god.. OPEN UP THE PLAYBOOK
Dude won a 6 OT game making crucial throws. Still won't let him throw. WTF?!!!
2 weeks of preparation to keep calling inside runs to nowhere. We had a bye week before this shit.
Today has reminded me how frustrated I am with our offensive coaching staff; specifically their inability to come up with anything creative. We all know that QP is inexperienced; however, do our coaches really think what they are doing is going to work?
Terrible things happen to us every off season and bye week. Therefore, we must play every Saturday all year long.
I support this
Yes throw
This is looking predictable. ND is making it look easy on these throws
Buckle up boys. It's gonna be a looooong afternoon
I approach this game knowing that ND is really a lot better than us. They're bigger stronger faster and more experienced across the board. Challenging QP will be nice, but probably won't look great. Hope for not a blowout but today is about growth, not victory.
Ugh that was a bad throw
If punt block had been on we could have gotten one. Guess we're not taking any risks
Tre has looked like shit today. Not easy catches but if you get 2 hands on it make the damn catch
Yeah pick up your QB making his first start against huge favorites
Man QP showing us that accuracy we've been hearing about
Quincy Patterson has not had a good start throwing in this game.
Patterson clearly is lacking in the passing game.
The people yelling for QP to throw are starting to see the truth.
I'll give it until at least half time before I can say the truth. Confidence is low for sure right now though
Ladler playing good assignment football
Plz, let him keep running.
Corny needs to give QP a screen for confidences sake, just see the ball caught
This. Yes he's not been accurate. But for the love of PBR give him an easy throw.
Ladler has had a few good weeks. Hopefully he's turned a corner.
Upside, defense is playing well so far.
Defense has really stepped up so far. Only score was off a VERY short field from a terrible punt. Need something from the offense here with good field position
We're getting chances...
0-6 on throws now.
Alright... so do we keep qp in or put hooker in now because qp isnt throwing it and they have the run on lock...
Laze tweeted that Willis warmed up with the 2s. So Hooker is probably not 100% and probably worth saving for ACC play.
Catch the ball!
QP isn't polished, but our receivers haven't helped either.
that should've been caught
Nice to Hazleton! It still wasn't a great throw. I think we might be better off with Willis at the moment.
Great call on 3rd down there.
So QP is good on 4th down throws.
This is fucking embarrassing.
My 5 years old called that 3rd down QB run
Receivers really not helping QP so far today
There we go!!! Great back shoulder throw & adjustment by Hazelton. We really need the WR's to make plays today
A lot of footballs hitting hands today
Your WRs gotta make a play sometimes too
TD Hazleton!
Love the aggressiveness on that drive!!
Catch. The. Ball.
Confidence.
We're getting the breaks so far!!
The game has no rhythm! Weird.
Glorious. QP's been close with these throws and the WRs have had some balls in their hands (tee hee). Knew we'd see some catches getting hauled in.
Good stones to go for it on 4th down, pays off!
Oh man, we really needed that TD to take some pressure off and give QP a confidence boost.
Well good news is....if we drive down the field Johnson just filled me with confidence that he's going to nail a kick when called on. /s
DL is generating pressure but they can't get him down so far. Come on boys we need another stop!
We were very lucky to get the calls on that drive. I will take lucky.
How did Ashby miss that sack?
Who knows if we can win the game but there's fight on both sides of the ball. They've kept the boys' heads in the right place, for whatever that's worth.
Impressed with DL play so far. Garbutt has looked particularly good this game.
Sooo...who misses Joey Slye? Cuz our kicker cant even kick extra points...
I miss Jordan Stout
We Bama now!
Notre Dame is way better than us but we're tied after 1. I'm considering that a small victory
Hewitt was so close there. Damn he shot out of a cannon
God Ashby looks slow as hell today
We ain't playing the coastal today
Great play call by ND there.
DL has to feel that screen coming. Yikes
Tisdale has to be more aware of the seal block as well. He looked clueless
Yea. That was a well executed screen by ND. The DL did not see that one coming at all.
Tisdale been caught out a bit on this drive.
They've got to get Ashby help in situations like that. Book is apparently too fast and evasive in the open field. Ashby is so strong in other elements of his game but that's a poor matchup.
D gap blitz and spy the Sam LB maybe unless it's dax
Why can't our coaches come up with simple passes like that help our QB?
Oh right cause we don't have a D1 coordinator
The lack of creativity, even simple things like checkdowns, is really frustrating with our offense.
Nope we prefer 4th and Hazelton
Agree, short route still gain yardage and would help Q get more comfortable. If he could have an RPO, he would be more of a threat.
Well so much for keeping the momentum. What an awful drive by the defense there
ND has that red zone RPO working to perfection...
Belmar is being held on almost every pass play, and its not even close.
Overall I feel great. I feel pretty confident that if hooker wasn't hurt, this angry notre dame team would have just tied the game or brought it within 7. Really please with the fight the team is showing today.
We're losing the TOP so far. This explains the difference in the score.
Where is Conner today? Haven't seen him at all
Stay aggressive, boys. Keep pushing. Keep it close and maybe we can break through next quarter.
I dont see us consistently moving the ball on O today. The D is about to get gassed, and this is gonna be a rough 2nd half
Turner got mugged there
Alright offense. Let's respond
Wow turner gets mugged for the second time. What the fuck?
I'm team QP but a closer pass would have helped sell the flag
Wow. How do you not throw a flag there?
Finally throws easy pass. Robinson drops.
God QP is getting screwed by our receivers
Turner gets abused and no PI then a dropped ball. This is not Cornelsons fault on this drive
Is it sleeting?
Receivers are dropping a lot today. Wonder if the cold is affecting that.
Where is Bradburn?
Groin injury apparently
JESUS CHRIST CATCH THE BALL FOR GODS SAKE
The offense has gone three and out on all but one drive, the defense will wear down and continue to wear down at this rate.
We got 30 yards of penalties on our TD drive. Need more from this offense.
The only thing we really seem to have is the QP run, and they seem to be on to that.
If the passing game doesn't work, we can't open up the run possibilities.
ND 21-7 here. Offense isn't doing shit & defense is gonna get gassed
Drops remind me of LT's receivers against Alabama.
Can we stop with the stone hands today? Some of these drops would be confidence builders for Quincy in addition to the obvious part about gaining yards.
Refs missed the obvious PI that might have changed that drive.
Can't blame the offense for that.
And TR drops an easy pass that would have given us 3rd and about 5. Tough luck on that drive.
Disagree. Terrible missed call but if Robinson catches on 2nd down, QP likely picks up the first on his 3rd down scramble
Sure. But doesn't make the comment wrong. Would have had the first on that one play.
Radio saying sideline message from WR coach is to catch the ball. No surprises there
Once again I'm unable to stream, and there aren't TVs with cable or broadcast here at work. Watching gamecast and reading this, it sounds really bad. QP needs to hit some throws or we need to (I can't believe I'm saying this) think seriously about rotating QP and RW (assuming HH really cannot play).
Stalled offense is much more on the shit play by WR's than QP
There is enough blame to go around. The receivers have dropped balls and the qb has missed throws.
Tisdale having his worst game so far
Huge stop by the D there. Definitely thought ND was gonna score
Defense is playing well! Offense is close but not quite fully clicking still.
Not doing the little things well on O. Sounds easy enough to fix but it's easier said than done
We're in the game despite the stats. Need to put something together here.
Need a drive here, just so the D can breathe for a minute.
The receivers are not helping outside of Hazelton today
No, they are not.
Man these receivers are not helping QP gain confidence.
Passing game is clearly struggling. That miscommunication on third and 3 was brutal
3rd & 3 with man to man & kaleb runs a freaking fade. Come on man, WR's are KILLING US
That needed to be a QP run so we can just get a first down. I HATE that call given what we are doing to our defense so far.
Well the great thing about QP and HH is that they can turn any pass play into a run play. Not saying he should have tucked it and ran there but they can if they need to.
They seem to be queued in on the QP runs.
None of it works without at least some passing threat.
QP needs to be on the same page as the WRs. Do they have the same playbook? They sure are making it look hard.
UUUGGGGHHHH 3 and out
Nothing positive to say about that drive.
6/7 three and outs. I don't wanna hear it when the defense eventually caves. This is bullshit.
Agreed. Offense has to help the defense out
Honestly can't lay all of the blame on Cornelsen right now. He isn't calling plays that compensate for a steady stream of dropped balls because those don't actually exist.
Floodgates are gonna open here soon
This is the worst display of offense I've seen in some time. Defense will wear down. It will be awful in the 2nd half if we cant keep the defense off the field.
Defense deserves a better offensive performance with the effort they're putting forth today
Wtf camera angle are they using right now? It's terrible whatever it is
Our defense can only hold so long
Someone DO SONETHING AAHHHH... ND is keeping us in the game...now take advantage
Another great stand by the defense. These poor boys just need a rest.
Both of these teams stink. Would've liked to see us closer to full power.
The defense is keeping us in this...the offense has to sustain a drive
It hasn't been pretty but the defense has held up well,
Yeah its windy, but these are just two mediocre teams
Has the camera work been this bad the whole time and I'm just noticing this now?
Whats up with this camera angle?
Notre dame uses the sky cam for plays starting this year. It was really poorly received for obvious reasons, so it seems they have went away from it for the most part until now.
You can see the obvious, jarring difference in the quality of the broadcast when they use it. Pretty sure it was Brian kellys idea.
Grimsley plus targeting!
Usually when it gets too windy they must change to safer camera angles.
Note: this is a concept that Notre Dame does not practice.
Great throw & catch. We'll take the targeting too!
Great throw by QP there. Incredible catch by HEZZY to hold on during that bad hit.
The hit on QP is more a targeting foul than the hit on Grimsley
I think that's the right call on picking up the targeting flag.
Interesting... fine with that reversal but they better be consistent with that call
So...... where is McClease today? 3 carries so far???
Radio guys completely baffled by the targeting reversal
Not sure why. By definition, it was a clean hit.
Looks like head-to-head contact, but no targeting. Is there a possible penalty for head-to-head if it was called correctly?
So the key to targeting is to hit the player in the helmet with your face?
Interesting.
Yes actually. Much lower chance of neck injury when you tackle face up. You're taught to keep your head up, more dangerous for both parties when you put it down.
Did... Did they just run the same exact running play twice?
Are you fucking kidding me. QP finally driving & we get a dumbass penalty
Huge mental error lining up there. FUCK. That's so avoidable
That's a fucking terrible call... Hazelton was off!
They keep drawing the line and they don't match up.
Let them play!
Ineligible downfield is a pox on the college football house
I'm guessing no PI calls are happening today...
Anyone notice the cameramen suck for a National network?
That seems like a really silly technical foul to me
Its huge if the defense is reading keys.
He wasn't lined up with the ball on my screen.
VT getting robbed on that one.
Isn't the line of scrimmage where the ball is?
Time for Fired Up Fuente in South Bend!
I don't even understand why that's a rule
Then you don't understand football. It tells the defense who is eligible and who isn't.
I simply mean does making a guy step a few inches back really the most effective way to do that?
I understand it's a rule, just a silly one, especially as Flutie mentioned the NFL let's guys get away with that all the time
Both guys had their heads at the "butt" of the tackle/TE (I can't remember if we had a TE lined up), that means both guys were "on the LOS. So if you are a LB/CB you recognize that the inside guy is not eligible and that you should be looking for a route from the outside WR or a run (b/c the inside guy is clearly a blocker). It tells those guys a ton.
Well...
God fucking damnit
Wow
Fuck us. What a joke.
Good God.
TOs will get after ya
Well there goes any chance we had of tying before the half.
This didn't age well
This freakin team sometimes
Beating ourselves on that drive.
No chance of winning this game with this offense.
We look sloppy, ill coached and undisiplined. This fumble is unacceptable
We look like we're using our third string QB.
He's no longer 3rd string when the 2nd string is healthy on the sideline
Which one is the second string? The third string is now the first string and the first string is now the second or third string depending on the previous second strings health.
Wait what?
Do you think Hooker is healthy?
We may need him.
^this
The way Fuente reacted and with a little lip reading it seems as though they practiced that illegal formation
That fumble was a late snap into a jet sweep, I'm surprised it didn't hit Turner coming around.
I feel like Nd should be up 42
HOW IS THAT NOT INTENTIONAL GROUNDING
Grounding call?
Every fucking time.
Game changer. I guarantee it.
Why is that not intentional grounding?
I feel like we're getting dogged by the refs.
That isn't grounding?
Our last drive is the type of drive that will lose a game for ya.
That, and refs being on the take.
They need to get their heads in the game.
Notre Dame getting every benefit of the doubt.
My guys are fucking savages on the field😂
We're not helping ourselves but these refs have been VERY questionable so far. Good lord
A TD here and the game is over (or more certainly than it was before)
That spot was.... generous. not a first down.
Hate to make the Ref excuse, but it has been a good while since I've seen a game as one-sided as this.
Not sure how they don't at least review that spot on the "first down"
I don't know if these refs are biased but they sure are bad.
The definition of biased is bad in favor of one team.
Which so far seems to be the case.
But maybe it's just bad luck.
We've had a few gifts like the non-holding call on Farley in the first drive
Radio guys saying Fuente still arguing the illegal formation during the commercial break
In spite of what the commentators said, Turner was a yard behind the line of scrimmage on my screen (looking at the hashmarks).
And so was Hazelton. They both had their heads on the "butt of the tackle" who was 1/2 a yard of the LOS. It was an accurately called penalty.
Off the line means lining up in the backfield. Lining up in the backfield is 2 yards or more off the line. Anything closer is considered "on the line" of scrimmage.
Edit: to further clarify, they were both one year behind the line of scrimmage, or in the eyes of the officials, "on the line" of scrimmage.
Oh.
You see this sometimes bite you in the ass with linemen "lining up in the backfield", which means they are more than 2 yards of the line.
We all know the o line is supposed to line up on the los, and if you look again haze was lined up pretty close to where the tackles were.
The way Fuente is arguing I don't think it was over one yard and I don't think he thinks that's the rule to apply (right or wrong I don't know) but we will find out more after the game. Radio guys wondering if he had already had that formation run by officials
Totally agree. Loved how the tv crew drew their yellow lines (incorrectly) to prove the officials right. Poor officiating.
"Great protection all day".... haha. he's been on the run all day.
Ashby is so fucking unathletic
Ashby oooooof
Taunting much?
Only if they aren't wearing a gold helmet.
Again, they cannot just leave Ashby out there in space. Getting killed in the open field.
Needed that stop but nooooo
Pathetic 3rd down D.
Holy shit!!!!!
Reggie Floyd stone walls that kid. Manassas represent
Ashby got played on that one
Once again, commentator loves Notre Dame.
Yeah, That's what NBC pays them to do. It doesn't bother me as much with these broadcasts
Wow. Deablo
GET ABSOLUTELY FUCKED
OMG OMG OMG OMG
Stood his ass up. Good job Floyd!!
Look at that shit
Ashby redeemed himself!!!!!
HOLY SHIT LETS FUCKING GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
OH MY GOD
Game CHANGER! Beamerball!
This looks vaguely familiar...get outplayed and tied at half! It's been a while
YES YES YES
Ashby heard all that noise. Let's goooo.
Fuck yes!
Holy
Shit
WOW!
The DEFENSE came here to fucking play!! Let's goooooo!!!
ONG WHAT JUST HAPPENED OMG OMG OMG
HUGE!
I love this team!!!
AWESOME!!
HELMET ON THE BALL!! Perfect
Unfucking believable. Reminds me of the old days
HOLY SHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT!!!!!
Shock the world....
Sideline warning?!? Fuck you!!!!
WOOOOOOO!!!! 98 yard fumble return for the TD! Way to go D!
It was 99 yards, don't short-change the diablo
WHAT!?!?!?!?!??????
Refs: crap how do we reverse that? Shoot I guess all we can do is call a sideline warning
I spit out my tea, crap that was funny
FUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCKK YESSSSSSSSSSSS!
GO DEABLO!
How in the actual fuck is this a tied gaming going into halftime? I hope our receivers find the cure for the dropsies, because we might get lucky.
Payback for last year at the end of half!
Diablo. Wow. Nicely done!
GOD DAMN INJECT THAT SHIT INTO MY VEINS 😍😍
Retuning the favor from last year
Love the hokie crowd being loud
That should wake up the locker room at halftime!
80 yards of total offense in the first half? Who gives a fuck!! We tied at halftime, LETS GO!!!
Beamer Ball alive and well!
And 97 fumble return yardage.
Tie ball game.
Awww shout out to the hokie nation fans there...that was nice
Made me smile
That is where Rayshard Ashby excels. He's not going to make headlines running down open field tackles but run into a gap at him...
Y'all get football boners? Asking for a friend.
I think I grew a third leg.
Your "friend" should consult a doctor if it lasts more than 4 hours.
My dick
Nice
I did not expect that end to the first half.
SWEET!
You have to love that.
Quick, somebody check and see if that's a school record!
Rayshard Ashby... one of the most HARDEST hitting linebackers in da league
ND fans booing the kneel down. Hokie fans loud on TV (Tirico giving em a shout out). Get the ball to start the half with an offense that got going ever so slightly at the end.
Let's get this to 6-2 boys
Woop woop!!! Damn shine has kicked in!!! 'bout to have a cardiac event!!!! LETS FRIGGIN GO!!!!!!
Someone said it above, but I needed to get more specific...
GET ABSOLUTELY FUCKED #8
He should've been flagged for gettin in Ladler's face like he did earlier.
LETS FUCKING GO
@Jafar Armstrong
How DIVINE
Am in enemy territory and everyone hated me going ape shit on that TD.. good times
Who knew the Hazelton fumble was just a setup for the Notre Dame fumble-recovery-touchdown?
What a cool way to end the half.
3D chess right there
-They're letting QP throw more this game but he's missing throws and also the WRs have dropped some catchable balls. At least they haven't shied away from throwing because of that. I'd like to see them get him so easy throws though. It seems like most of them are all deep shots
-Corny needs to get McClease and Keene involved more with the run game. Its way too predictable with Patterson. Plus it looks like he's calling his own number too much on some of the reads so maybe just switch to handoff plays instead of reads.
-This officiating crew is garbage. They've missed blatantly easy calls on both teams.
Holy Fucksticks
Need the offense to come out and scheme some open easy throws for QP and get some offense going. The TE misdirection stuff against Miami was great to ease Hooker into the game.
Man, this Nats Parade is awful. The speakers are a snoozer clown show. Bummer after that awesome 98 yard fumble six. Can we go back to the game please? Jesus.
Question: when was our last defensive score? I legit don't remember
had a punt block TD against UVA last year.
Looks like the last true defensive score was in 2017. Stroman, Walker, and Floyd all had defensive TDs.
Let's not forget the stuff by Floyd the play before the fumble return!
Come out and establish the same suite of runs from the UNC games. Positive yardage on early down to get Quincy some rhythm and confidence.
Lmao our offense has been so bad. That comparison was brutal. We are fortunate to be 14-14, time to capitalize on that fortune and pull the upset with a better second half effort.
I'm really happy that I got to watch Brian Kelly give both a pre-game and halftime speech.
/s
"Character will win out."
So...
Virginia Tech win?
I lol'd
Fuente "Our defense is keeping us in the game". Who thought the defense would be getting praise after last year's team.
Hazleton can't be stopped today
That last play of the first half was a 14 point shift in score.
That's huge.
PASS THE BALL TO
TUCKERDAMONWould be nice to be able to get Patterson out of that QB power when there are 6 guys on the LOS for the D.
We keep getting calls. The gods see doing us favors
Almost another ineligible receiver downfield on that long pass play. Gotta watch where they're lining up!
I know that body language from Tre, that's a lower back injury. Hope it's minor
Terrible play call in third down
Agreed.
That should have been some kind of pass.
Or at least somebody else carrying it.
We throw deep to the far side of the field on 3rd and 2 and run the QP power on 3rd and 7. Sounds about right...
3rd and 6. What an awful playcall.
Corny on 3rd down is not good.
Just too obvious
Corny is not good.
Patterson doesn't seem to be running with the same authority that he ran with against UNC
ND's line is much better than UNC's and they've been keyed in on the QP run.
This. We need a passing game to have a running game.
This is Notre Dame, not UNC... ND actually plays defense.
Cornhole played for the FG attempt.
Guys our kicker hit a 40+ Yard fg....#hope
And the Hokies take the lead! 17-14
Still no bootlegs that I can remember. Get QP moving.
Definitely a catch
Where are these refs from?
Hate hate hate watching games on NBC
Damn 3rd down stop there would've been huge
That's how you do a fake.
Divine
LETS GO DEABLOOOOOOOO
17
DEFENSE let's go DEABLO
Let's goooooooo.
Yesssssss
YYYEEEEESSS
Diablo remembers Beamerball.
The Blessed Demon is playing well today.
If we pull this one out give Deablo the damn game ball.
Deablo killing it out there today!
Wow. Diablo earning his pay today.
$0.00!
I retract my previous deablo complaints
There's no way he caught that at the 2 yd
INT GO HOKIES
THE DEVIL IS LOOSE IN SOUTH BEND
These shit refs are going to mark him down at the one inch line aren't they.
They are going to try
Called it. That's twice this season.
Win the turnover battle, WIN THE MF'N GAME!!!
Deablo ate his Wheaties this morning
Defense is playing lights out, offense needs to step it up. Corny needs to put them in a position to succeed
You mean a position with Hooker right?
I hope that he was in the endzone....a big difference between starting at the 2 and 20...
Me, too, but any is better than Notre Dame possession.
How was that not a touch back
Of course they spot that shit at the 2 instead of a touchback
What a terrible spot!!!!
EDIT: How has this happened to us twice this season? That was a seriously egregious call.
Wow. That's bullshit
Ah fuck
Let's have a quarter and a half long TD drive.
Okay I'm on the "refs are biased" train. That spot is awful.
I've never seen so much complaining about a VT takeaway.
It's because it was such an amazing and athletic play he deserves the correct call. We are all PUMPED for him
How can that spot be wrong?
After all, the homer ND commentator agrees.
I think that's actually the right call? They give you the ball where the catch is made instead of where your momentum takes you...meaning the end zone in this case?
You're supposed to get the end zone in that scenario.
EDIT: I've seen guys catch it at the 3 yard line and get the touch back.
No way he had possession at the 2yd line.....these refs have been calling bogus calls all game....
LETS GO QUINCY
Did you guys know Qunicy is 6'4 250 lbs?
Yeah me too, except 6'2" and 260
Does Hilgart own a jacket?
edit- or even a long sleeved shirt
No, the last trip to ND, the coldest I've ever been he was out there in same outfit.
QP with the big run after the defense bites on McClease.
Tre turner has just been awful today. Dude can't get separation at all
I'm not sure he's healthy. At least he doesn't appear to be.
He's also playing a very good DB, but he has definitely had some chances.
That's because ND DBs are tugging on his jersey right as he jumps to make a ply on the ball. It's happened a couple time today. I think having some better thrown balls coming his way would help too.
Weird, the refs decided to overrule their initial gut instinct to screw us again and actually placed Haze's catch in the right place
DLine has come to play today...
Hell of a stop by the defense on that series. Let's go offense!!
Refs, in huddle: "Hey, guys, we can't cheat 'em that bad. Let's give 'em three yards back on the spot, and maybe they'll be satisfied. We'll get them back somewhere else."
This has been the defenses best performance in two seasons
17 ate his wheaties this morning
Why are they holding on a fair catch?
The only person who knows its a fair catch is the guy catching the ball.
It would be great if the offense could generate another score with the wind at its back.
QP is working and looking better....but I think we're up 10-14 points with Hooker. The early first half probably isn't a 3 and out fest and that might be enough. I'm really not impressed with Notre Dame.
It hurts not having Hooker out there. We're winning this because of defense, which is not what I would have expected.
Holding on a fair catch. When the fair catch happens, the penalty should be void. Just my opinion.
Deablo is really giving the Catholics some problems.
Now we need the offense to give them some problems by putting some more points on the board.
Not enough love for this post right here
I would like to see a screen called....ND is selling out to stop the runs....
TE release for a TD....
Let him throw the ball!
Huge pickup on 3rd down
That's a big first down.
"Does this not feel like old school Virginia Tech?"
Music to my ears
end of 3rd. 3 point lead at ND. My heart is pounding!
This quarter will prove to us that this team is growing up. Let's GO!
Hopefully those body blows start paying dividends in the 4th....a QP TD would be big
LETS GO TURNER!!!
LETS GO TRE TURNER!!!!!
BIG PLAY TRE!
BIG PLAY TRE
Win or lose, I'm really proud of this group of kids today!
Sure, but I mean...let's win right?
Why do you throw first two downs & then run? Why not use QP's size in the red zone?
Because that's what they're expecting, and they're all over it.
I do not like that play calling...pass, pass, run?
Jerod had a tendency to make that play call look genius. But I tend to agree, that 3rd down play should have been the second down play.
Can't settle for the FG there....ND has the wind this qrt...
I think I would've gone for another run play there instead of passing. Eat up more clock.
eating clock in a 1 score game? Seems......a little overly optimistic
The designed QB run was INCREDIBLY obvious
THAT'S A SAFETY
You can blame the playcalling there, but if the throw is a little bit better, one of those is a completion.
They double choppin?
Hey refs that's what it looks like when you catch the ball on the 2 yd line
Exactly. If you are going to call it that way then be consistent
Safety !!!!
That would be epic!
These fucking useless referees...this is just like the Deablo interception. That ball needs to be spotted at the 1.
this
1 yard line. Be consistent.
If Deablo's INT wasn't a touchback, that's a safety.
Wow, unbelievable
That's a safety
I wish we had score a TD but we are up by 6 in the fourth quarter. If anyone had suggested we would be leading in the 4th quarter against ND, I think that the Hokie nation would say, "I'll take it.'
I don't get this.
Our guy was ruled down on the two yard line. Their guy gets to walk it back to the end zone?
Consistency, please.
HOW IS THAT PLAY ANY DIFFERENT THAN DEABLO'S INTERCEPTION?! THAT'S BULLSHIT!!
Now lets not give up a 99yd run....🤫
But he took a knee in the end zone after NOT calling for a fair catch?
Yeah that is what I am wondering
momentum my ass
Consistency.
But didn't he take a knee in the end zone?
Tough defense now
Dax... we had a 3 & out inside their own 10 how the fuck do you let him get that first down. Jesus Christ
Why not bring pressure on 3rd and long.....man we needed a 3 and out....
Pretty sure the tackle moved there. Officials having a totally putrid afternoon.
After further review. I was caught by the cameras trying to give 25 yards to Notre Dame...
Now they're gonna fucking call targeting on us & confirm it. Such bullshit
WHY?????
He gone.
Yup.... that call is going to stand. Dang, unnecessary hit there.
Now Waller has to miss the first half of the WF game. Such fucking bullshit
No way
Well damn
It just sucks because Ashby had him down.
Oh that's bullshit and it is absolutely getting upheld.
Stupid stupid penalty. Ashby had him
There was no launch there.
Ridiculous rule
Terribly decision by Waller there.
That's such a horseshit call, the RB lowered his head too. I don't understand how a RB can lower his head and that still be called targeting in the D. Fucking terrible
It was the correct call by definition. Waller lead with the crown of his helmet.
Should have learned from Notre Dame. The way to get out of that is to lead with your face.
Soft
No f'ing need....the running back is going down....
FUCK. THESE. FUCKING. REFS.
Lol fucking zebras
These refs are shit
We need to get it together and get a big stop on this drive.
#25 magic!!!
That's not roughing the passer
What is going on?????
TERRIBLE CALL!!
As the refs try and steal this game.
Refs didn't see the LT hold there though. Don't worry
WOW refs really bailing them out now, this is fucking absurd.
Notre Dame is holding!!!
This is getting so ridiculous.
Weak ass call there
This is bullshit
They literally waited for the INT to throw the flag what the fuck
I knew they were gonna call roughing the passer, but that was a great play by Chatman.
Just going to watch the game drift away because of penalties. It hurts me so much worse than getting blown out because we suck.
That was an awful call. Are you kidding me?
They are stealing this game....how did they miss the hold in front of the qb
FUCK THESE REFS
Call holding you pathetic ref.
Oh man screw these refs so hard
They have been garbage all day long
Refs must be on the Notre Dame payroll.
That was a pretty marginal roughing the passer.
Didn't wrap up on the QB, didn't drive him into the ground, didn't land on him what a god awful fucking call.
