GAMBLING LINES 2019: WEEK 11

Gambling will never make you happy. You'll lose one bet of an 8-leg parlay and be pissed you didn't stop at 7. You'll win the ML for a team expected to lose by double digits and be disappointed you only put down a couple bucks. Or, in my case, you will win every single bet you made this past weekend, but be angry you didn't have the balls to parlay them.

My bet slip:
Michigan (-18.5)
Marshall (-10.5)
VT (+17)
Miami ML
Pitt (-7.5)

Payout as bet: 197% (almost doubling my money)
Payout as a 5 leg parlay: 3222% (financing the purchase of a truck)

Don't bet, kids.

Anyway, on to this week's lines.

  • BC (-1): BC has been awful this year. They boast 5 wins, but let's look at who they've beaten: Two Atlantic bottom feeders(Syracuse & NC State), a B1G bottom feeder (Rutgers), an FCS team (Richmond), and Ryan Willis's interception bonanza. And yet they are favored, albeit ever so slightly, over FSU. What a shit show Willie made for himself. Good thing they canned him cause he was about to drop a game to a shitty BC team. I still say BC takes this one.
  • LOLUVa (-17): As much as I'd love to see LOLUVa be uncomfortable or even lose against GT, I just don't see it happening. GT is garbage. Miami's three stooges impression notwithstanding, GT is going to lose their P5 games and lose them hard. LOLUVa (-17) sounds good to me and if it's not, well, then at least I can enjoy the sound of the collective brick shitting echoing off the blue ridge mountains all the way from down here in Lynchburg.
  • Bama (-5.5): National Championship game right here and Bama is still favored by five and a half. As discussed elsewhere, lines aren't always how Vegas expects the game to go. They are set where Vegas thinks they can get half the bets to fall on either side of the line. Inject a crazed Bama fanbase into the mix and you're going to get a skewed line on this. Gimme LSU (+5.5) and maybe even the ML if I'm feeling lucky.
  • Kentucky (-2.5): My inlaws are Tennessee fans. They think they're on the upswing since switching quarterbacks (I know the feeling). I would love nothing more than to see them drop yet another game to one of the bball schools stranded in the SEC. If this was last year, I'd be tempted to take Kentucky here (even though they inexplicably lost to UT last year), but this year's Kentucky team is not up to the task. Taking UT (+2.5) on this one.

As always, please do not take my ramblings as legitimate gambling advice. You will lose your shirt and anything else you're foolish enough to bet based on my idiocy.
Lines may change over the course of the week. I also may have made errors copying them. Always triple check when money is at stake
TKP does not encourage gambling and even if it did, I am neither employed nor sanctioned by Orange and Maroon Media, LLC so who cares.

I think the play in Bama-LSU is the under 65.

That game has a 24-20 feel to it.

Under at 65 or LSU (+5.5)?

5-5, really on a heater now.

I want to like NC State as 31 point home dogs to Clemson. Seems like the Pack pulls out some crazy upset at home every few years or at least keep it close. The biggest reason why they went down big early against Wake was gifting Wake good field position.

Nothing else really stands out to me, so give me the Pack.

The Orange and Maroon you see, that's fighting on to victory.

counterpoint: NC State has been embarrassed in each of their ACC losses and didn't look good in their sole win (over Syracuse). If FSU, BC, and Wake can pull off 18, 21, and 34 point victories, respectively, I have to think Clemson can best them by 31. If NCSU has a surprising performance this season, expect it against UNCHeat to end the season and salvage their pride and a bowl game, not against the Tigers.

I didn't even know what to write about the Wake line. So many potential takes on that:

Wake is looking ahead to Clemson so take Tech
Wake is bad enough to eek by FSU so take Tech
Wake is not as good as Notre Dame and on some level that was a freebie game for us and we still almost won so take Tech.
Honor Bud game combined with a near must win conference game so take Tech.
This is Wake's year and they need to stay at one conference loss to have a chance at taking the division from Clemson so take Wake.
Wake is 2-0 against teams we've both played and looked better doing it (took a 21-3 lead into the 4th against UNCHeat, never trailed BC) so take Wake.
The only team to beat Wake won in a shootout and we lack the offensive firepower so take Wake.

I mean, don't get me wrong, I'm gonna put money on VT (+3), I just have no good reason for doing it.

Here's another one for you.

If you averaged the total defense of every team Wake has played up to this point it would rank 92nd with 422 ypg allowed. Wake may have a scary offense on paper, but it's been somewhat inflated by really bad opposing defenses.

The Orange and Maroon you see, that's fighting on to victory.

Hit a 9 teamer parlay last week thanks to a safety in the final minute of the UCF game!

Hokie hoops +6.5 tonight against Clemson

I lose some money betting on college football. I lose a lot of money betting on regular season college hoops (somehow the NCAA tourney last year was a pleasant surprise)

I refuse to bet college basketball there are way to many ways for bad beats to happen.

I stopped after about 4 weeks of losing bet after bet by less than 3 points due to crap like "hey it's the end of a close game, let's start fouling to stop the clock and turn a 3 point loss into a 10 point loss due to good foul shooting."

Or undefended meaningless layup down 10 with 1 second to go at when the team I bet was -9. That happened to me like 4 times last season.
