Aw, that's heartbreaking. We lost a very special dog during the 2009 SEC Championship game. All week long, my husband had been saying, "I don't care what happens, we are NOT missing that game." Needless to say, we did, most of it, anyway. We came home from the doggy ER stunned and heartbroken, to the sight of Tim Tebow crying his eyes out on TV. We collapsed on the floor in front of the TV with our remaining dog, all three of us sobbing and howling right along with Tebow. It was awful, and we said no more pets; it hurts too much. Three weeks later, though, a sweet little beagle we called Tebow joined our family (in all fairness, he wouldn't answer to Tyrod).
From our family to yours, virtual hugs, and prayers for comfort and better days to come.

Plural?!?!? The rainbow bridge is far too busy these last few days.
If my first and forever cat, who left us March 25 2019, can welcome your pups, I'll ask him to help them along. What are their names? Do you have a pic of the goodboys/girls?

Palmetto amd Horse. Your posts really hit a nerve, thanks for your virtual hugs. Pics coming, just can't deal w that much detail online right now.
Bud's 36th shutout helped, but only temporarily. Our one remaining dog, Layla, shows the same emotions we have when we come home: It's just way too quiet at home.
God bless our Hokie family!

Much love to you, smitty. It's brutal to lose a four legged love machines like you have, my first an only was brutal enough, I can't fathom what it's like to lose more than one in such short order.
Every now and again it's nice to be able to find a distraction, maybe a bit of respite in something - like a Hokieball win - that I like but isn't nearly as important as the bit of love that I got from my little guy. It's always hard to lose one.
Do you have any others? Are you thinking about getting another sibling for the remaining family?

Horse (and Palmetto), thanks.
The dogs we lost last week, within 24 hours, are Paisley
and Woody
Our remaining dog is Layla
Paisley was 2-1/2, we lost her to a massive fast cancer (lymphoma). Woody was almost 15 and his dementia was to the point where he was hurting himself. The timing of all this is horrible. Paisley was fine one week and gone the next. Our grief is palpable. These wounds will heal, its just gonna take time.
Layla gets really spoiled now. I am hopeful my wife will want another Golden soon, but she needs to get past this first.
Happy Thanksgiving to our TKP family. Enjoy your family every day, you never know when it will be your last time. Others on these boards mention their human family member losses, and those hurt even more. God bless to all of you whom are grieving through family losses, they are especially hard near the holidays.

Wow! We have a cat we named "Teeter". Wife initially wanted to name her daisy but she was a "terrorist", hence...
They look VERY similar!!
Thanks for the kind words. I'm hoping our holiday trip helps us recover.
Awesome win tonite vs MSU!!!!! Nolley has ice in his veins n Bede is rock solid. Bring on Dayton!

Layla seems fine.
I want to say that this thread engagement has helped me cope w my grief and for that I am very appreciative.
But, this should not be about just my family and our pets. Lots of our TKP family have dealt w similar circumstances. Unfortunately, death is part of life.
Do we need a "Pets Rememberance" thread? I'm not sure, perhaps that's a bit much, as we all have our equally/more important human family as well.
I guess I'm just trying to move on and live with the living. My wife and I are humbled by the TKP family support. Love you all.

They've got a good defense, bad offense with little run game other than their qb that seems to have found his legs recently. That won't do them any favors in the cold rain.

All my plans collapsed on me and I can't make it to the game now. This is a blessing for Hokie nation as we have not won a game I've attended since graduation in 2015.
I'm thinking this game is going to be exactly what Bud(?) described it as a 4 hour fist fight. It won't be pretty, likely low scoring but I have faith the Hokies O pulls out ahead early and keeps the game just out of reach for the Pitt D. VT 20 Pitt 10
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I trust our offense to eek out a 50+ rushing attempt field position battle more than Pitt's. We may see some QP cameos to get that extra beef to keep us on schedule for >4 ypc. Avoid turnovers and we win by about 10.

Cautiously optimistic. Will be watching from Lane, and I'll be cold and wet. The plan is to get to Lot 18 and crack my first beer by 9:30. Did I mention cold and wet? Because I'm going to be cold and wet.

I'll be there but I'm worried about the crowd as well. I'm guessing it'll be about 75% full.
I will be very disappointed if Lane is half empty for Bud's final home game because of some rain.
If you're on the fence because you don't want to stand in the rain... bundle up, stuff a bunch of bourbon in your insulation, put on your outer shell of rain gear, and get your ass to the game.

I wish I was as confident as most of y'all. I'm sitting here looking at two 7-3 teams going head to head with coaches who have nearly identical W/L records in the ACC and I'm still scarred from mast season and Pitt happens... I'm going to be gray after this game
But still Let's Go Hokies!!

Kabul Afghanistan.....will watch the recording when I wake up on Sunday. More nervous for this one than I am for UVA. Pitt always plays us tough. Even when they have had horrible offenses in the past somehow they have gained traction against us. I hope Foster imprinted last years game into the defenses memory. I do however feel that we will likely come away with the win but it's gonna be a stress test for our hearts imo and can easy easily go the other way w/one bad bounce.
My in-laws lived in Loveland for about 8 years. Was there almost every thanksgiving during their tenure there. They finally moved back to Arkansas when we had our 2nd child......fun place to visit with the surrounding areas (breweries, Denver, Estes park, etc).....but I will never miss the 12 hour drive having to go through Kansas. Flattest and straightest roads ever.......just miserable.

One of my exes was from Wyoming (and she ended up going to VT for Grad School) always said that when her dad drove to help her move, he always started in the middle of the night so he wouldn't have to look at Nebraska on the drive, so I'm sure it's similar to Kansas.

I believe the team is more than capable of beating pitt but I am not yet sure of how mentally / emotionally tough the good guys are. I am hoping that we score early and get up by more than one touchdown. If that happens, I think it could turn into a blowout win for Tech.

Big Island - game starts at 10:30 in the morning - hopeful, but expecting a Marshall-in-the-rain type game where maybe we're not so lucky. Not sure VT can run enough on these guys. If we win, I'm putting a nail in the coffin of the dcwilson narrative that I was finally convinced was true after the Duke debacle and I'm back on the fifthfuller 15-0 train in 2020!

A little. More during the OSU/PSU game than the Hokie game, IIRC. It hasn't been bad, though sometimes the video will fail to load and and I have to recast. I have a first generation chromecast so I have always blamed it on that, though it generally works well enough that I don't need to complain. I'm sorry for your losses. That's quite the emotional pain all at once. I'm glad you're spoiling Layla, she will need it to help cope as well.
That's freaking awful. What a terrible week, and that's putting it lightly. Sorry you guys had to go through that in such a short time span.
What an adorable brood! How is Layla doing without her siblings? Here was my little guy, Prometheus:
He was born July 23, 2004 and was laid to rest on March 25, 2019. I just realized this week that he never saw LOLUVA beat VT, which is nice.

And I'm expecting a win. And I'm expecting some salt.
Heading out to tailgate in a bit. Each week, more evidence builds that this team is certifiably 1045 AD.
Expecting rain, a win & false starts.
Can't fly in due to the weather after the game (icing level at 5-6k) so currently on the road driving from Norfolk. Driving up this morning, drive back tonight.

64 to Richmond then 460 from there. Not a bad drive, just long.
Win or lose, this sentiment shall always remain:

P-a-t N-a-r-d-u-z-z-i...
A LOT of tickets going up for sale. Really worried we're gonna see a half empty stadium for bud's last home game & a big game against Pitt
$10 on stubhub, not sure I've seen them that low before for a big conference game.
I almost decided to drive from Nashville for this game, but I honestly decided against it because of the weather. Judge me if you will.
But man, those prices. Something something....supply and demand....
I'm nervous because this is the second Saturday I've had off since Duke...can you guess the other one?
The difference is I expect to be watching at least part of the game from a hotel.
Woke up this morning with a baaaad feeling. I hope I'm wrong.
That was gas. Were good!!
