My sister and brother and law both work for the Houston Rockets, and at their wedding I met their friend Brian who runs https://houseofhouston.com/
They have been pretty excited about the Roughneck's start, and it sounds like Houston has some real buzz around them in town, which is great for football in general and the XFL specifically. I shared this post with him on Facebook so maybe we can get some more Houston fans voting too. Maybe we can get an exclusive Cam interview about his start in the XFL for TKP

WTF is this ish? Thompkins wasn't even in the first poll. Was there a second poll of 4 other people and the winners of the two polls now go to a final? Otherwise this is just the XFL trying to gin up some numbers to make it look more relevant.

While the XFL still has plenty of wrinkles to iron out, I think their thought process as to some of the in game and broadcast decisions they have made make a lot of sense.
One of which is exemplified here, in that they are really trying to create a fan connection to the players right from the jump. The sideline interviews (which most of the time I am thinking "let the guy catch his dang breath") are a nice touch. I think of it as analogous to why the NBA is so popular. Fans get to see those guys up close and personal. In the NFL, outside of a few select positional superstars (primarily quarterbacks), most fans wouldn't be able to actually recognize their favorite players if they saw them on the street, as usually you are only seeing them with their helmets on. My son is 6, and he knows who Chris Paul is when he shows up in the State Farm commercials, for example. Both my kids so absolutely nuts for "The Beard" and will actually sit and watch a Rockets game if I put it on TV.
They have literally never done that for any football player.
The XFL is smart in realizing that fans arn't going to have attachments to these teams right away, but they can certainly get quick attachments to players. The first go around they knew this psychology, but were way too gimmicky about it (He Hate Me). Gotta hand it to them this time
I watch Houston Roughneck games specifically to see Cam at this point, and I know a ton of Houston fans that do the same.
