UCONN is no place for Bud Foster. No way. He deserves a shot at HC, but not at a place like that. His resume is way too good for that to be the one that he takes. Am I right?

typically HC jobs open up at crappy school with bad seasons. Sometimes they open at blue chip schools with HC leaving is disgrace. Your first HC job is like your first car or first girlfriend: a good place to start, learn a few things, then trade it in for a better one when the first chance you get.

Please Weaver as your last act as AD, setup a coach-in-waiting situation for Bud. I know that hasn't worked out for other schools in the past, but... if we lose Bud, we're done for.

Yeah but who would Torrian be the DC for? Frank for a couple years or Bud until he gets a shot at his own HC gig? I would have to think Bud would want to take Torrian with him. No I don't want to see either of these take place but I could see it happen.

I'd think Bud would take either Wiles or Gray with him to be his DC, the other would stay to be the DC of VT. I doubt either of them would pass up the coordinator job to continue to be an assistant at a smaller school.

I know in the short-term this sounds terrible. But Bud is still an unknown as a HC. Let's say Bud leaves and then Beamer retires in 2016 (like most of us expect), by then we'll be able to see if Bud is a good HC and decide if he's worth a HC hire. I personally think this benefits us in the long run.

I thought something along those lines to myself too. But playing devil's advocate, maybe Bud holds a grudge against VT for him never getting a shot after putting out the stats his defense has had during his tenure. I really hope he stays on board as a DC until farther down the road when VT HC discussions become more relevant. PLEASE BUD!

I don't see him having a grudge. There's no way he expected us to replace Beamer with him. We made him one of the highest paid assistants in the country, that's about all you can do short of firing Beamer and hiring him.

Its that time of year again. It was Clemson, Pitt, and others before. If Bud leaves, my thought is that it will have to be a D-1 school with East Coast recruiting area. AAC or C-USA or MAC. Would love to see him stay, but if being a HC is his dream, it will be tough to defer that dream. The man is a millionaire in Blacksburg, a fan favorite, and will never have to do anything else to be a VT legend for life.

If there is any D Coordinators better than Bud its very few. I love Torrian, and he does a fantastic job with CBs, but coaching CBs and coaching a whole defense is ALOT different. Torrian would prolly do a solid job, but hes not a bud foster or close to it. I may take some flack for this, but I personally believe when you think of VT you automatically think defense because of the job Bud has done. Hes more important to VT than beamer is at this point. Would be a brutal loss

I agree. I was having a conversation with my father-in-law about how when someone talks about Virginia Tech, it's hard to not bring up Bud Foster. Point of fact, Bud Foster IS THE reason why I watched Virginia Tech in the first place, not Frank Beamer, the Notorious B.U.D.

Maybe Charley Wiles, then? He could coach the defensive line and Torrian could create a DB corps with 7 guys in it. We'd be like a defensive version of Oregon.

Bottom line is we all LOVE bud foster and I honestly don't think he would leave for UConn. He can get a much better coaching position somewhere else or here possibly in time.

DC Bud Foster said he hasn't been contacted by UConn. Said he thinks the search committee has contacted his agent, Bob Lattinville. #Hokies

as another poster stated, until a school with a legitimate chance at winning contacts him, he has stated he has the best boss he could hope for. i'll worry when a BCS, AQ, competitive team is in the mix. He has stated he's not interested in (re)building of a program.

God, if you're up there, please don't let this happen. Please?! PLEASE!?!!!!

You are right. Case closed, glad that's settled.
You mean like Gus Malzahn going to Arkansas State before returning to Auburn to coach them to a 11-1 SEC title game?
Shut your filthy mouth.
It is no where near the same. Douches abounded in your example. Bud is close to prayed to here in Blacksburg.
P.S.
I love you - like a brother
Please do not let this happen. Please, please, please.
Bud - Beamer will probably retire after 2016, its worth the wait!
Who's going to get the Save Bud kickstarter in motion? TKP to the rescue!
I'm sure if we offer him a Horse on a Treadmill shirt, he will stick around.
Can we put a HOAT shirt on Jefferson this weekend?
Not UCONN. Not for Bud. He deserves more than that train wreck.

A competitive counter-offer is going to be necessary. By "competitive," I mean "give the man whatever he wants and be happy about it."
I can't imagine life without him but I really believe Torrian Gray would be a terrific DC.
This is true... but I'd love to have both if possible.
I totally agree with you, but I'm terrified to find out.
I completely agree that Torrian would be an excellent DC but that means that he would have to take his attention off of DBU to run the defense.
Or maybe DBU become DEFENSE U!!

I agree... but only if Torrian was VT DC, not UConn DC.
I think if Torian had a choice of being UCONN DC or VT DC, he would choose VT, that is his alma m

Yeah I really don't have any idea what he's thinking. Not sure any of us could handle the thoughts that go through this awesomely-angry man's head.

Not sure how much he gets paid as the VT DC, but as a UCONN HC? Much more, bro. I hope it doesn't happen and he can wait.
My gut says that an AAC school isnt a big enough draw to pull him. But that also could be my brain trying to lie to itself.

I know Bud has said before that he would only go to a BCS school with a legitimate shot at winning it all. Uconn really doesn't fit that bill.
That wouldn't be a good situation AT ALL

How many HC jobs has he interviewed for? We've been here before no need to panic.
what's really funny is this comment then the comment directly below it.

We if someone offered him $2 million/year, maybe worth considering.
Would Uconn have that much commitment to a sport that isn't played on wood floors?
Did you see their new stadium?
