As reported by VTScoop247, the Hokies got their second quarterback commitment in as many days. I don't expect them to take a third. Dual-threat QB Carlis Parker from Statesville, North Carolina will be a Hokie. Tom Lemming ranked him 80th in his top 100. Here's Lemming on Parker.
Parker, who had a phenomenal sophomore season before missing his junior year due to injury, is flying under the radar a bit but has offers from more than a half-dozen teams.
"He's one of the best quarterbacks in the country," Lemming said. "I saw his sophomore film, and I think he's a Top 100 guy. I think he's a guy by this time next year, everyone will be talking about him."
Carlis suffered a torn LCL (lateral collateral ligament) in his right knee in August 2011 during the second quarter of Statesville's season opener.
The hardest part was the amount of recovery time. Parker was told in August it could take him up to nine months to get back to the field.
"It took a lot of patience," Parker said. "I'm patient, but I was eager to work hard and get ahead of schedule. It wasn't going to all come in one day, one week or even a month. It was going to happen over time."
The thought of taking a hit in practice or in a game has not crossed the quarterback's mind at all.
"I think he's fine," Gusler said. "He is a very tough kid and isn't worried about that. I don't think he is even thinking about it."
Parker, who had roughly 2,800 total yards as a sophomore, works the knee at home with a resistance band wrapped around his ankle or calf. He clocked a 4.45-second time in the 40-yard dash two weeks ago.
From everything I heard, the knee should not be an issue and he should be ready to rock and roll his senior season.
Welcome to HokieNation Carlis!

I watched film on Parker and Hodges. Hodges has a better arm and needs work on his mechanics, particularly his hop step that he takes before he throws. Parker is a fantastic runner. I had questions about his arm strength, but his athleticism coupled with his sharp decision-making in the running game really makes him an intriguing prospect. I am very excited to see how he his growth for his senior seasons.
I thought it was very interesting that Lemming has Jonathan Allen rated higher than Kendall Fuller. Allen is absolutely a perfect fit for the way the Hokies play defensive end.
The Kid is a Monster
Do we have a shot with Allen?
No
His finalists are Florida and Alabama. I have to think Saban invades and conquers in Virginia again.
So where does he fit in at VT?
Given his athleticism would we try to get him on the field, or would he definitely be staying at QB to compete with Bucky and double up on the position?
statesville kid huh?
I went to one of their rival schools (North Iredell) they were winning state titles and we would go like 2-8. Either way its cool to have somebody from your hometown playing for your squad. Welcome to the Hokie Nation Carlis!
Welcome Carlis
Good to see a Statesville, NC kid getting some Hokie love. My parents are from Statesville and all of my mom's family still lives there. After watching his video, will definitely be rooting for him to get on the field in some form.
Welcome Carlis...but
What does his commitment mean for Anthony Jennings? I was fairly impressed with his film as well.
After Carlis committed Jennings Tweeted, "I guess Virginia Tech is out of the equation." He's since deleted that Tweet.
I'd be surprised if we landed Jennings .. but so far, this cycle has turned some heads .. so never say never. I would be very impressed if we were able to land Jennings and Hodges, and move Parker to WR
i'd say
that jennings was very likely out when bucky committed .. and most definitely out now unless they've told parker for certain that he'll play wr or fs ... jennings won't be a hokie and i liked his film a lot too
Well, we know someone will be moving. It will be tough to have 4 guys competing for the job when Logan leaves
Leal
Hodges
Parker
Motley (who I still think might be the suprise guy who wins the job at some point)
If LT3 leaves in 2013
we really need Motley to pan out at QB so he can be 2nd string. I would much rather have Bucky and Parker redshirt/3rd string emergency QB. If LT3 stays for 2013, then Bucky and Parker definitely will redshirt and all Hokies will rejoice.
