OT: Alex Smith

Came across this article on espn about Alex Smith, the injury, the fight to save his life and leg, and his recovery. Pretty incredible. Couple of graphic pictures, be warned.

Yeah, I read that last week. It was a far worse recovery than I had any idea of.

Somehow I saw the ad for this unexpectedly and they gave no warning to the images and I almost threw up

The ad didn't or the Post didn't? The article I saw had a big warning up top about graphic images.

it was wherever I saw this before your post - maybe an autoplay video after I watched something else

My God that sounds and looks something far beyond awful. Major kudos to him for staying positive though. So many people would have given up and let something like that break them completely.

Warning- Filter lost.

"Look at this... This is just spectacular.... These people are losing their minds"

The similarities between Alex Smith injury and Joe Thiesmans's are insane. Same leg, same date 33 years apart, both by 3x dpoy, both while starting for the skins at a home game.

I didn't watch Smith injury, but I saw Joe's so I know not to click the link.

This image has been floating around this week.

I told him I’d crawl on my hands and knees to be the DL coach at Virginia Tech. Now, all of a sudden, I’m sitting in this chair and I told him I’d still crawl on my hands and knees to work here. I just want to be here.

Seeing that is actually what prompted me to google him, hadn't heard anything recently about him

Now finish up them taters; I'm gonna go fondle my sweaters.

Yeah that article was nuts. I didn't know it was that bad. Good luck to him. It said that he was trying to come back to play again, does anyone know the status on that? Seems pretty unlikely given what he's had to go through.

I think the thing that we need to take away from all of this is that Alex Smiths wife is smoking hot.

I'll add this, I've never been a 'Skins fan, never really cared one way or another about Alex Smith...if he does ever make it back to play football again, I'll cheer for him no matter what team he is on

Horrible story, very unlucky injury. Always felt bad for the dude, not his fault he was over drafted and put in bad situations with coaches drafting their own QB's after inheriting him. He seems like a solid guy overall.

I can imagine no more rewarding a career. And any man who may be asked in this century what he did to make his life worthwhile, I think can respond with a good deal of pride and satisfaction:
“I served in the United States Navy"
