Remember I wanted to quit so many times but I knew this moment would come now is my time #committed #allin https://t.co/47kZBV7YQmβ Tray curry β (@StayOnU) July 14, 2020
Big receiver seemingly commits out of nowhere! He slots in as the 2nd highest rated commit in our 2021 class which has now moved into the 42nd ranked spot in the team composite rankings.

Love it!
We finally got a Curry
**ducks**
#WelcomeHome
Edit: 88
7666the closest I EVER got to plaid....nice! πChef curry with the pot boi
At 66 you ain't done yet...
EDIT At 87 you still ain't done yet
EDIT Now at 110... still might not be done yet
If it stops at 87, I'm going to be so annoyed, the 60's was the best that I've done to date LMBO, what can ya do? (shrug) I guess the 80s is my new personal best LMBO
Edit: Major appreciation to those who helped me reach the 100+ plaid milestone. I just knew, this would stop around the 60s again LOL.
don't make me downvote you to -100 for the leg whoring /s
Lol, GGC, you a Gunner, but we both Big Blue, don't do me like that homie LOL
You're the Jurgen Klopp of VT recruiting jokes
Lol, this made me laugh Kop, I figure if we can't get to 100+ this campaign, I'd hold the Reds down on this site LOL
Edit: This didn't age well....
See what you get??!? See!??!
Take it to the EPL thread, pal...congrats on the win
You got plaid for stealing a joke off 247.
4th comment down
That joke was on reddit too but it's a pretty easy one if you're a VT sports fan. Doesn't mean he stole it
No problem with the joke itself, but give credit where credit is due.
I was an easy joke to come up with and the fact that it was posted elsewhere offers no proof that he stole it from anyone. My response would be that great minds think alike, and who cares anyway?
I am not gonna say you jinxed us, but...
Another early offer, modeling a theme in this class -- he has since picked up 12 P5 offers including a slew of SEC schools.

Excited about someone with that size and length. Seems to be quick enough to run some screens as well.
Anyone have any info on why the drop off in his ratings? Great get either way, just interesting to see someone drop from .97 to .88. Seems like maybe there was an injury or something?
He committed to VT.
In all seriousness, I'm guessing the recruiting sites must not have loved his Junior tape.
Or they haven't looked at his tape period, which is also a possibility
The last update to his ranking and numbers were in May 2020
I know, but that doesn't mean they've looked at his film.
**cue the rankings don't mean anything sub thread**
probably has to do with competition, or tough Jr season, Soph season was a breakout with the stats.
Please, Please, on the Discourse Thread
I think I'm getting confused as to what folks want on the discourse thread versus a normal thread. gjpvt09's post here was directly related to the commit with minor secondary commentary and zero tertiary commentary.
**cue the is this discourse thread material or news sub thread**
I love all of you
Yeah, the commit-specific news thread is great to discuss the commit.
We probably don't need to rehash the "stars don't matter" conversation in this thread or any thread really π π π I thought it was tongue in cheek
Thank you!
**cue the rankings don't mean anything sub thread**
That's all I'm talking about. I think we've all seen more than enough talk about stars and rankings.
Gotcha... Although it appeared to me that the original statement was a joke of sorts.
Edit: Sorry, now I'm the one with a tertiary conversation on a recruiting thread...
Just guessing here...
But as stated above, his Jr. Season film doesn't show a .97 ranking. The kid has great measurables and good straight line speed, but it seems like the competition level is quite low. On top of that he has a couple areas that will need to be improved or developed before facing P-5 competition:
1. He is rarely seen running routes. Most of the film is him running a vertical or some form of an out and up or post. Very raw in the route running department.
2. He rarely uses his hands to catch the football. Reminds me a lot of Bucky Hodges in that regard.
Lots of upside for sure. I'm glad he committed to the good guys!
In regards to reminding you of Bucky, at least he gets YAC on his film, Bucky pretty much was falling wherever he caught the ball. Route running will need work, he isn't real smooth on his breaks.
Dude has nine SEC offers.
I wonder how many of those were back when he was a .97 ranking.
Before 1st Rating - VT, UVA, Tenn, UGA, Texas A&M, Scar, Louisville, Miss St, UK
While .97 Rated - Nebraska
While .92-.93 Rated - Memphis, Arkansas, Auburn
While .88 Rated - Ole Miss
What was causing his rating to drop over time?
Maybe word got back to 247 that a bunch of those offers weren't commitable, like the UT one.
Someone knew he'd commit to us so they were just getting ahead of it.
Ive heard his tape wasnt up to snuff. But screw it, im happy to have the kid!
FAM!
Yoooooo
Where did this come from?
Welcome to Hokie Nation, Mr. Curry
This kid dropped his commitment on us like
MOAB

Seems like this kid wasn't on many VT Recruit followers radar. I wonder if this reinforces a comment a made in one of the recruiting threads that there may be kids our staff have that we don't even know about.
I know he is a 3 star, but he has some things you can't teach at WR.
Always a good time when you have kids join Hokie Nation!
I'm telling y'all. we got some studs in the stable π
Got our Big Play Tray when Big Play Tre leaves
6'4 and 210 already, he grows anymore and he will be a TE which will then enable him to play every position on the field...
Tray Curry anagrams to.... Curry Tray?
Fixed it to be the only curry tray that matters.
Whatcha got for Yurt Carry?
It would be awesome if we kept this guy, but he's probably going to Tennessee if they give him a commitable offer. They already have 3 WR's in this class, though, so maybe we're in the clear? Exciting nonetheless!
Yeah a couple Tennessee fans have said he tried to commit to UT in June but wasn't a take. Additionally, another Tenn fan thinks he is holding a spot with VT until an Auburn or Tennessee offer becomes committable. I'm really hoping that is not the case and he is fully committed here.
https://www.timesfreepress.com/news/sports/story/2020/may/30/bradley-cen...
Apparently he did commit to Tenn at one point...glad it didn't stick!
I don't think so. he reallyyyy likes our staffπ
Great news!
Where do you have info coming from?
A homieπ
seems legit
It's somebody that you used to knowπ
excuse me I don't use anybody
Damn itπ
Better?
Hadn't thought of that song in years, now its back in my head. Damn you.
A nice surprise, had no clue who he was but is a big WR, who had some big time SEC offers. I'll throw up a FAMMMMM for this one!
Wooo exciting! Dude has size and can really run. I guess he could work on becoming more of a hands-catcher and running crisper routes, but he seems like a heck of a prospect to me.
ESPN has him as a 4 star
I think people normally use composite.
*whispers* you use whichever ranking is highest.
Everybody knows you only use the highest ranking if it's a guy who committed. If it's a guy who decommitted, you use whichever ranking is lowest in one thread and then rant about how it's the end of our program in another.
;)
I'm pretty steadfast in using only composite or the inhouse 247 rankings. I'm a pretty strong believer that the 247 in house rankings are the best in the business (as they poached the best talent in the business) and are the industry leader since about the early-mid 2010's.
I still use the composite as well, mostly by default. It's the required ranking used on reddit and on the 247 website itself. It's valuable to have multiple inputs, but ESPN has long been seen as a third rate recruiting service, and Rivals has lost a lot of their best people to 247 over the years.
Naquan Brown is an example of this. His composite is wayyyy higher than his 247 only ranking. Need to pick one or the other.
Yep, and if you check his rating history, he's been steadily dropping in the rankings for a long time on both. That's what happens when you blow up as a sophomore and then don't get any bigger. But I'm not here to drag NB, his tape still looks good, but the ht/wt/speed measurables definitely bring some reasonable questions for an edge guy.
Out of nowhere, nice! Welcome to Hokie Nation! #endzonefadesalldayeveryday
I like his size and his offer list. Let's Go!
HOKIES!
This class has SIZE. Really solid base of (imo underrated) players. Now we just gotta close on Tyleik, Gilliam, and hopefully a couple more high rated guys
Big guy, very strong, great straight line speed. High points jump balls. Great hands. Will need a little work on his initial step and footwork off the snap, that can be improved with some work and coaching. Will be a big time receiver at VT. Welcome Home!
Welcome Home Playmaker....the Curry is Hot!!!!!!
I'm wondering about him playing as a true freshman. Looks developed enough physically.
Either way sweet pick up and I like how out of the blue it was.
Feels a bit like the Martin commit, in that it seems to have come out of nowhere.
Welcome to the fold.
Welcome aboard Mr. Curry look forward to seeing your highlights on ESPN while wearing a VT uniform!
6-4 205. 16 years old
https://twitter.com/StephenHargis/status/1285663449507405827?s=20
...An interesting but hopefully not problematic development.
If I had to guess, probably reclassifying and enrolling early, which seems to be the norm now that high school seasons are being canceled due to COVID
If that was the case I figured one of the recruiting sites would break the news first, but considering his, shall we say, unorthodox recruitment... who knows.
Hope he makes it to VT cause he has some big time potential.
lmao @ the random 3 year letterman in the replies calling a 16 year old a bust and a rulebreaker.
Without even checking I can tell you it's either the famous troll account, that always elicits real responses from people who think he is being serious (bio says he is a youth sports coaching legend), or a copycat account that does the same thing.
Nah, it's some rando who seemingly went to a rival highschool decades ago.
I was making a joke about the account you're alluding to.
I was just about to come correct my comment after checking it out. I see now that you were pointing out this particular loser is an example of why that account exists haha.
Hope the kid pans out.
I was looking at the recruiting class the other day, and realized that Tray is rated higher than another WR who decommited from us to go to Nebraska. Thought that was interesting.
Looks like there is some definite confusion on this departure. He is one of the TN SI All Americans. Don't you have to have decent grades or whatever to qualify for that, or is it solely based on your talents?
My Recruitment is now open !!!To all schools.β Tray curry β (@StayOnU) October 7, 2020 " target="_blank">
Lots of SEC offers popping up as of late. Must be looking for those better academics.
For some reason this isn't very surprising.
Commit out of nowhere and decommit out of nowhere. Like it never even happened.
Not surprised, this never felt solid. Hope we're on the trail to replace him!
Hoping this effects another senior's commitment to another school....
Higgins Bruce?
This only makes me think of one thing.
BEAT UNC!
Commitment thread suddenly appears in the Tracker - I know it's not gonna be good news but I always hope.
We're like an Indian restaurant after the local weight watchers club goes on a cheat day.
No Curry.
If a guy decommitted from a school that wasn't going to take him only to commit to another school using the exact same tweet and quotes, don't be surprised to see it a third time, I guess?
Genuine question... do recruits randomly commit to VT (or other schools) if they aren't getting a lot of interest to leverage themselves on the open market for offers from better schools? It sure seems like that could be a solid strategy and sure seems like it may happen to Fuente and Co a lot.
I think that is a rhetorical question these days, the answer is always yes, and I'm sure this doesn't only involve VT.
I'm sure this is something that recruits do to many schools.
This one always felt flimsy. We were the fallback plan and I am not surprised to see him look elsewhere the minute some other offers start coming in. Like others have said, maybe we put the full court press on trying to flip back some original targets who may have the wrong impression from a virtual visit?
His entire recruitment has been a strange road and not just with us.
He watched our first two games and was like "I didn't think VA Tech was a running school and not a passing school. Crap, gotta find me a school that'll throw me the ball."
"Wait a minute, they are going to make me block."
Fuck 2020
let's be honest. If the unexpected worst is happening in 2020, a random football decommitment for VT is hardly fitting the meme of "2020." It's just another year in Blacksburg in that department.
But yes, agreed with the overall mentality.
Ha well played.
Last time a WR decommitted Curry, a higher rater WR, committed. Maybe the trend holds true this time?
Greenberg really screwed this one up!
You will get no Curry's and like it!
