Beck going track only is least surprising but having several players out for any length of time with no spring practice is going to be interesting.

If you are not injured, and you don't play at all in the 4 free games redshirts get now, that is a huge indicator of not ever cracking the 2 deep and/or transferring out. It's literally 4 free games to play snaps in. Saw this a mile away with Beck.

Agreeing with Wilson. He was always a track guy. Based on the film I saw on Beck (playing against an Abingdon team which didn't have anyone close to DI much less P5 talent), he looked pedestrian. I am glad he has a calling in track. He wasn't a DI football player.

The strength of the team was going to be returning starters, and they are already down four with Keene, McClease, Farley and Garbutt.
I hear you, but in the case of Keene, we can't always assume every single player stays 4-5 years. In fact we want guys turning pro early if they get drafted where Keene was.
It seems to me that if you're a top 10 team these days you've got to assume a 3 and out model for most of your starters/contributors and just consider it a bonus when one stays longer.
Unless you're Clemson.

Grimsley and Patterson weren't starters. Depth guys, but not starters. Robinson and passes Grimsley and Patterson never really did much.
That's why I said the two combined count as a starter. Robinson wasn't playing near the amount Hazelton and Turner were
Farley and Garbutt are definitely a blow, Keene was great but I think Gallo will fill in nicely with Mitchell being more of a weapon flexed out. McClease came on strong at the end of last year, but King flashed way more upside even as a freshman. Excited to see him and some of the new faces have a bigger role. If one of the downhill power backs can seize some reps and complement King as the slasher, we might really have something in the run game. We've needed a dominant downhill running back for a while.

I think he's just tallying up the attrition since the end of last season when we were all looking ahead to 2020 and getting hype for a team loaded with returning talent.
We literally won't know what the 2 deep will look like until game week and will likely change every week for as long as the season lasts. Only good thing (if you want to call it that) is every team will have that problem.
It'll be chicken salad for as long as the season lasts. A real test of depth and coaching for every program for sure.
The 2 deep won't mean much this year unfortunately... because there will be VT players that test positive and they won't all be 3rd stringers. Some starters and backups - possibly many- will be missing 10 days after a positive test. Setting up to be a huge shitshow. Might be like the MLB playoffs- whoever has the lefty set up man you've never heard of, wins... could be the best 3rd string team, best use of redshirts, etc. wins this year.

News on the street was that the incoming freshmen were such studs, most on the team were going to be demoted to 2nd team anyway.

The sheer volume of players opting out is the next big domino, and the initial spike 2-3 weeks after school starts will be what finally does the season in.

Well Chancellor Woodson from State said at the ACC meeting if they send the freshmen home and classes go 100% online they'll cancel football too. So I was referring more to that being what finally decides it.
But I do think every new player that opts out will make others consider it. And when the lack of safety becomes clear with everyone back on campus even more probably will.

Blackshear should just hold up the news story of the outbreak at Rutgers....just saying "this is why I transferred".
Living in the state of NJ should be reason enough to transfer and get a waiver.
Having spent more than half of my life living in NJ, I totally support this sentiment.
I have been to NJ twice. All I can say was the local pizza I got was good and the Red Roof at the Meadowlands was not bad.

My dad grew up in Ridgewood and he took me to the local pizza place he frequented growing up and it was the best pizza I've ever had to this day.
Nj guy here. I can confirm this. Same with bagels.
It can also take an hour or more to get the last 5 or 10 miles from Northern NJ into NYC. Then it can take you 20 minutes to find a parking place that charges $20 for the first 30 minutes.
Although these days it's a breeze. 😕
Dont forget the $15 toll just to get into Manhattan.
It does have some positive features. Pine Barrens, Wildwood Crest, Cape May, Delaware Water Gap ... And a good location for well paying jobs. But the expenses, crowds, political corruption, taxes, [I'll stop here because the next 2 things I have would probably violate community guidelines] make it a place that I cannot wait to get out of. Once our daughter finishes high school, I hope to be living in another state within a year.
By the time football is played again the rosters everywhere will look completely different
Well I guess the 2020 recruiting class will be making waves (one way or another) sooner than we anticipated.
As soon as the season is cancelled, I expect most of the projected high draft guys like Farley to move on the the NFL for next season. Pointless to lose a year; NFL player careers are short already, can't afford to lose a season's salary.
Which mean a lot of guys will go lower than projected due to a larger draft class.
Wait, why? It doesn't change the rules for draft eligibility and in fact the highest projected guys will benefit the most because there won't be additional tape to significantly change the projections.
At this stage there are about 5 or 6 rounds worth of "projected 3rd or 4th round 2021 draft picks" Many of which would stay in college for the 2021 season after having a so-so 2020 season in college,
if there is no 2020 college season, many of those guys may just roll the dice on actually being drafted in 2021 to get started on a professional career. especially if COVID uncertainty is still strong in the winter/spring.

Houston's QB when Dana Holgerson took the job and left WVU. After 4 games Holgerson had his best players take a redshirt year, including King, so they could tank and be good this year.
Once the season ended he decided to Grad Transfer to Miami.
Doubt they miss him, since Houston will be undefeated this year without him anyways /s
