It's an offshoot of the hipster movement. Some rando decided that NIckleback was not cool, and it spiraled from there. Approximately 77.9% of the Nickleback haters have no idea why they hate Nickelback.

They were the most popular rock band for a moment despite having only about 4 distinct songs, even though they were decent and catchy. Everything else is a slight modification of one of those songs. From there it became a meme.
They memed themselves with their own songs, as it were.

Ok fine, the vast majority of their songs after their debut album are just How You Remind Me all over again. But I didn't hear any Too Bad or Never Again in there.
I realize I just outed myself as someone who listened to Nickelback in 2002 and I don't care. I still stand by the fact that their first album was generally good and varied and they haven't done anything interesting since.
I listen to Nickelback in 2020 because I am not a follower. Silver Side Up was a good album.
Dont worry, I saw them in concert in 2002 in Savannah. Liked their music back then but cant say I look for it much now, hardly ever listen go the radio since I cant drive right now
I bought a bass a couple years ago and played it for about 6 weeks. I'm pretty sure I could step in and play bass for Nickelback right now. I think their bassist only knows one line. dum-dum dum-dum dum-dumdumdumdum.
Only job that's easier is being the drummer for AC/DC.
And I love AC/DC.

I don't like them cause they study music charts to see why a song made the chart then they copy those song formulas so they can chart and be famous. They don't care if their music is ass. As long as it charts they are fine being mediocre
They are one of the boat load of bad post grunge bands trying to ride the wave wearing flannel, having a long blonde haired front man with raspy vocals like Cobain, and playing really watered down four-chord rock songs. Another example is Silverchair, the Australian Nirvana-esque group with the one weird song about a bathroom in hell or something.
Umm silverchair is actually decent imo Days of the new is my favorite post grunge band
This is just wrong. Silverchair is nothing like Nirvana. I remember back when they first came out and they explicitly said they were trying to be like Helmet.

Haters gonna hate....but I actually enjoyed their Dark Horse album.

Yea I never understood where they hate came from. There is definitely worse music/bands out there... Sure a lot of their music sounds similar, but you can say that about A LOT of other artists/bands.
I feel like there is just a lot of followers/bandwagoners out there who hear it from their friends that Nickleback sucks and it's the cool thing to hate on them just because others say they hate them too... Reminds me when losers do "No Nut November" just because the internet told them to.
They get hate because their music is dumb as hell. Let's look at a few samples from their career:
"S is for the simple need/E is for the ecstasy/X is just to mark the spot/Cause the one really want"
"She'd be pissed if she could see the parts of you that I've been kissing"
"It's just a little hard to leave/When you're going down on me"
The idiotic lyrics (it's hard to believe a grown man wrote these) along with plastic, samey commercial production and repetitive song structures make Nickelback the music of 38-year-old divorced dads with herpes.

Not strictly by the dumb ass lyrics, but also by the repetitive chord and song structures, the cheesy production, their tired themes, etc.
I heard a guy on the radio this morning describe Nickelback as the Florida Georgia Line of rock. And conversely, Florida Georgia Line as the Nickelback of country. Hilariously on point, I thought.

A read somewhere this was at a metal festival with other acts including Metallica and Slipknot. Which is lol. What fans Nickelback does have I can't imagine overlapping with those bands.
Lol me, i like all three of those and everything in between. Been to Nickelback concerts and Cannibal Corpse, Children of Bodom, Septicflesh, etc etc.

Their cover of "The Devil went down to Georgia" is sooo bad. I don't hate them but this was just awful and wrong.

I'm of the opinion that shinedowns covers are terrible. On par with Five Finger Death Punch. And the radio dis love them. So, you get to hear the awfulness on repeat.

Years ago Chris Rock had a joke that seems relavant here. It went something like "Nobody will admit they like Hootie and The Blowfish. But they sold like 7 million albums, so some of y'all are lying!" For as much hatred as Nickleback gets, they keep selling albums and selling out concerts. Their longevity is impressive.
And then you learn that Clear Channel has a financial stake in Nickelback (i.e. Nickelback works for Clear Channel) and realize all those numbers are complete bullshit.
There is a real reason to hate them!
