Alright TKPers!
On the heels of our Sun Bowl bid, some of us here in the TKP community will be making the trek to El Paso to watch our Hokies take on UCLA. I'm sure I'm not the only one on the boards that has absolutely no idea what there is to do in El Paso. If anyone has been there before, or knows about anything good there, please feel free to share it with us!
I'll start. Having never been to El Paso, I'm relying on word of mouth, and one of the best things I've heard about is locally (and semi-nationally) famous Chico's Tacos. Famously mentioned by Gabriel Iglesias in a stand up special, and even featured on Food Network, I'll be sure to hit one of their several locations up.

Eat a taco for me! Yup, that kind too.
This thread is for EPHokie.... (El Paso) Hokie.
Yeah, I'm planning to do a whole write-up... possibly tonight? We'll see.
Is it true that Juarez is like a Tijuana for those that want to test their bravery?
No, Juarez is more like a Tijuana for those that want to test their IQ... you have to be retarded to go over there.
Admittedly, the violence is (mildly) better there, but only because one of the cartels won... which just means the cartel vs cartel violence has lessened. That still leaves robbery, rape, and other violent crimes against people who stick out like sore thumbs...
I'm going to second that. I have traveled fairly extensively in Mexico including TJ, Juarez and Nogales border cities. The one rule with Juarez is this: DON"T GO TO JUAREZ
It's not worth it. The potential for something criminally violent to happen to you is so much higher here than in TJ. There are really only 2 reason to go to Juarez: Drugs and Hookers. I don't mean that as an insult but unless you know a local Juarez resident who can take you and show you around to the "nice" places in Juarez I highly recommend not going.
El Paso has all the Mexican flavor you'll need.
Ive actually been to this stadium, It is incredible. Mountains surround the Stadium and I went to a 5A texas High School Playoff game there game in 2002. When I went to the game there were hundreds og people who were drinking on the hills and watching the game from wayyyy up top. The Stadium is way to big for UTEP and is never even half full.
I posted the name of a restaurant I remember in the UCLA thread but EPHokie and PeteBuddyWilson I am sure will give a very thorough field report.
2 things you must do though:
1) Eat Green Chile. No not chili with and "I", Chile with an "E"
2) If someone is selling some local food from the back of their truck out of a cooler, BUT IT! Nothing is better that homemade Mexican food.
I also recommend meeting as many local fans as possible:
