There are no more Coronavirus threads. It's too much of a pain in the ass to moderate, and honestly it's been a drag on the community as a whole. For those things that intersect with COVID-19, either head on or tangentially (e.g. a football game canceled as a result of COVID), think twice about what you type. I am moving straight to bans for anyone who violates the Community Guidelines.

Lol thank you Joe.
Thank god, Joe. This unfortunately is a much needed and overdue step.
Well, at least we got to see the COVID thread graduate highschool.
Yeah but it was a drive by graduation. *ducks*
I believe we extracted all the benefit out of the Coronavirus threads. We had privileged and inside information provided by Fernley, scientific expertise in regards to testing and data interpretation from VTGM and many others who work within those fields in the TKP community, and some important debunking of misinformation during the scarier, earlier months of the pandemic. These were all things that were very helpful to me and I assume many others as well. That said, after 4-5 months the diminishing utility of these threads became evident.
It's unfortunate a handful of folks had to ruin it.
Thanks to the mod team for your effort over the last 5 months. I'm sure it was not fun nor easy, but it was appreciated (by at least some of us).
In the beginning of all of this, coming to TKP to discuss the scientific aspects of the virus, data interpretation, etc. was cathartic for me. Rationalizing information from a troubling situation was an outlet for my own anxiety about what might happen to my family and friends. I thoroughly appreciated the input of resident experts in the relevant topics. Big shout out to Chazz for being an awesome source of scientific input, and too many others who helped keep the productive discussions productive, especially the mod team. But I agree with Joe, the time had come for this aspect of TKP to die.
I hope you all stay safe and well. Hopefully we can watch some football in a few weeks. I will say that VT campus was quiet and almost eery today, especially for a first day of the fall semester. Few student vehicles in the parking lots, faculty lots no more than half full, and at a normally busy class change time (prior to 11:15 classes), I saw a grand total of three students along West Campus Drive - two going to/from class (I assume, based on carrying backpacks) and one jogging.
I want to echo what VTGM said above. Thanks to those who brought some legit first-hand information to the party. That was very appreciated. Unfortunately, these threads have become untenable.
you must not be near the electrical enge classes
Thanks for the shout out. All those years of doing RT-PCR and vaccine development are paying off. I do agree that the utility of the thread has waned.
And yes, let's all stay safe and move forward to good health and enjoyment.
Thank christ
We are no longer the Knights Who Say COVID...
Joe aint playing around
Coronavirus Threads:
I pretty much stayed out of these threads altogether because im not an expert on anything going on with this stuff...and of course i have my own thoughts and feelings which may be 'right' or may be 'wrong', but i usually keep those kinds of opinions to myself IRL as well...i guess we will find out in 20 years or so what the truth is/was about many aspects of this whole deal...but i did read all of the posts everyone contributed....and never held anyones feelings or thoughts in contempt...it was after all titled a 'discourse' thread on a sports website. I respect all of you and all of your opinions and insights whether i agreed at the time or not, and thank you all for keeping it civil for the most part. The Mods were given an impossible task to police all of this and performed admirably. Thank you Gobble, Chris, Guitar, and Joe for all you do and have done here. They and all of the community collectively make it worthwile to be a TKPC member here. I wish everyone and their familes well in these trying times and hope we will all come out on the other side of this together with beers in hand in lot 18 on a beautiful fall afternoon preparing to curb stomp Miami in an ESPN primetime game.
I believe.
Ut Prosim.
Thank you sir. It could have been useful - and sometimes was - but I got tired of going there too. Thank you and thank all of the moderators who did their best.
Even with this measure, we still had more coronavirus threads than....
...there will be fans at VT games this season?
(did I do that right?)
We were looking for "fans at a (really any given) LOLUVa game," but the judges will allow it.
yes, of course!
I should have known (just check my sig)
Is it a coincidence that the the coronavirus threads had become about as fun as tailgating for the UVA spring festival as well?
Ah, more authority figures using their power to silence the truth about COVID-19!
WE PROTEST AT DAWN!

(JK - thanks to Joe and the Mod Squad for your work)
If history is any indicator of future actions, I will get emails similar to this sentiment. Actual serious emails.
That's such a bummer and not a surprise which is even more of a bummer
If you want a good idea of an excellent TKPC feature, regular "actual emails from actual people" threads where you censor any identifying information about the sender, and just compile the craziest of loony bin emails you get.
I'm sure you have a few doozies.
Ohh yes....this.
And then we can speculate on which member wrote them!
What could go wrong?
/s
I really really really want this to happen.
Not from me. I'm a humble house guest. Your website is exactly that... yours.
I'm sooooo ready for a game preview...
Thanks Joe and for those of you who moderated. I checked in from time to time but stayed away from posting/debating. I just look forward to the day that we're all tailgating, bouncing to Enter the Sandbag and eating sugar cookies.
Until then, let's F up NC State then take back the cup in week 2 while we watch from home.
Peace and love Hokie Nation.
Enter the Sandbag sounds like a Weird Al song.
That sounds like an exercise the VTCC would cook up for us to do as "team building".
Am I seriously getting that old? I thought everyone would remember those references from Beamers Monday radio show.
Probably not, I just never lived in VT's radio territory except when I attended and I wasn't listening to sports talk at that time.
Good call. I was avoiding the threads because of the reasons expressed by Joe, Chris, VTGM etc.
Thanks to the moderators who had to read through all of the comments in those shitshows. I didn't even open all of them. You guys are the real heroes there.
Maybe when it's all over and the world is in the clear I'll offer a Covid AMA.... or if that movie actually gets made it probably will show a lot of the inside bullshit that (is) happened(ing).
Thank the good Lord above.
The simple and unfortunate reality is Covid has become a political topic like any other. It's sad that something affecting all of our lives has to be a taboo on here, but the policy makes sense.
But they never got to the 37th thread!
Just noticed your tagline. Wise words from a wise Ass Pocket. Have a leg.
*tips fedora*
M'leggy.
Reminds me of a great part of an undervalued movie...
But I never got your number!
In more ways than 1.
We got to the 19th COVID thread.
Nobody wants to see what happens when you get to COVID-20
Legs all around for not making me feel so old. Nice to know the youth is enjoying the classics
Thank you!!!! Can't wait to see more football discussion in the coming weeks.
I've been in national parks since Saturday on a weeklong vacation to Wyoming and this is a strong contender for highlight of the trip so far. Not because Grand Teton and Yellowstone are bad, but because no more covid threads is that good
We had planned to go to Grand Teton and Yellowstone in early June. We did not go to Grand Teton and Yellowstone in early June.
Both are cool but neither hold a candle to Glacier. If you can, please go. It's 1000 times better imo.
The similarity between the number of coronavirus threads we could survive and the number of consecutive times we had beaten LOLUVA was... similar.
Maybe this is our limit?
I never opened any of those threads nor watched and episode of Tiger King. Not sure if I'm missing out or if won a prize.
Thank you
Excellent news...thanks joeππ»ππ»ππ»! Now, since that's over I'm super pumped for the grad transfer at corner from Illinois state..lord knows we needed that guy. Despite not being able to attend games we are having Saturday Hokies parties (Safely Of course) with all of my crew and folks here in botetourt county. I'm looking forward to at least being with Hokies and enjoying Saturday's watching us get that cup back and giving us fans 3 hours to escape to the happiest place in earth...watching hokie football. I hope all of you stay safe and let's go!!!!
I clicked thinking it's a thread about covid in other countries /s
Hahahahaha. Nice.
Thank you Joe.
So Joe when talking about things like cancelled games, opponents having players opt out or not be available for a game should we start a new thread or use for example a game preview thread? Example NCST just froze all athletic events and they are Tech's first opponent in just over two weeks.
It's fine to post and share the effects as they relate to the Hokies, college football, etc...
β NC State froze all athletic events due to COVID-19
β 'It doesn't make any sense, the players are at a low risk of serious consequences.'
β 'This is the right decision because the case positivity rates was 33.3% and there were four identified clusters.'
What I don't want, is discussion about the virus itself. Use your best judgment, and I think everyone knows where that line is β the one that caused countless threads to degrade, but folks decided to cross it anyways.
Does that make sense?
Yep just wanted to make sure before talking about it at all.
Basically the post should read like the "news" section of the newspaper, not the op/ed?
That's a great way to put it.
Nowadays can you really tell the difference?
That's why he put one of them in quotes.
Why yes, yes I can. Why can't you?
Not always hence why posted what I did.
Sometimes it's obvious that the people writing them can't tell the difference.
So the unofficial word here in NC is that the COVID-19 positives for NC State Athletics where in the football and dance teams. No official confirmation, but that's the rumor.
it's almost like they were fraternizing or something...
Have they announced an expected timeline for resuming athletic activities? I assume not; everything I have read says "a pause". UNC resumed athletic activities just the other day, right? How long was their pause?
UNC "paused" for 72 hours.
Kind of like the "indefinite suspension" at another basketball-focused North Carolina school.
Thank you for your service.
So is this the new covid thread?
s/
I'm just glad we made it to XIX. If we had stopped at XVIII or gone to XX it would have been weird.
Does this also apply to a new thread about the now former president of Liberty University?
*ducks*
I want to post gifs so damn bad.
Here's a good one for you...
ok. Maybe a little touch.
I wouldn't touch that. Best to sit this one out and watch from the corner of the room.
Aw, no more of this?
