It's happening?

Leonard. Duh.

I am going to be "homegating" this game so hard. I might recreate the Lot 18 experience and start drinking and smoking meat at 9am.

WOOOO!!!!!!!! What kind of wonderfulness will you be making???

We have the ribs in the freezer and those smoked crab stuffed jalapeno poppers might make a return. I might ask the rest of the Lot 18 crew for requests.

sometimes I wonder how I would read your back-and-forths differently if I didn't know you were married.

Yeah, can they not discuss on their own time?

Totally kidding.

But, if we tell them to get a room, it means nothing.

This is going to be great for the ACC.

Pfft... Like all married couples don't have coversations on TKP while sitting in the same room with each other.

We weren't even in the same zip code when this conversation started!

But there are times that screen conversations work a little better than saying things even if we are in the same room.....

Not this time but you can't deny that we have done that. Oh like you texted flipping me the bird last night so the child couldn't see? Hmm???

Oh I know we've done that. Sometimes it is necessary---like the thread about certain people wearing O&M banana hammocks that caused me to create an account on here...

Yes exactly like that.

Commonwealth cup, come to papa!

I'm not kidding when I sat that I am surprised that UVA didn't find a way to make us not play for the Cup this year seeing how things are weird.

I love a good nap. Sometimes that's all that's getting me out of bed in the morning.

Part of the weirdness is that they have the cup to begin with. Things have just gone downhill from there.

Time to start righting the ship.

It's not just weirdness. I have a unified field theory of 2020.....I think that when we lost the cup last year, it launched a cataclysmic wave and caused a rip in the space-time continuum. It was just afterwards that a virus got unleashed, and the entire world has been circling the drain ever since. Rampant virus, violence in the streets, human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together... mass hysteria!....the only way that this gets resolved is for us to take the cup back and restore order to the universe.

Take the shortest route to the ball and arrive in bad humor.

I would say that since UVA completed the 7 kings of coastal chaos that it was no longer contained to football and was unleashed on the world and here we are. Thanks Wahoos.

Sorry, I was too late in commenting and didn't include a quote. Perhaps this will help:

Rampant virus, violence in the streets, human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together... mass hysteria!....the only way that this gets resolved is for us to take the cup back and restore order to the universe.

...and save the lives of millions of registered voters! (continuing the Ghostbusters dialogue quoted)

yeah my bad for not reading it in that context lol

Outstanding Ghostbusters reference!

Step 1: VT returns the cup to its rightful home
Step 2: Vaccine is developed and dispersed
Step 3: ?
Step 4: Profit!

Now finish up them taters; I'm gonna go fondle my sweaters.

Options for a game time were announced.

I was just looking at the slate of games that week and thinking to myself we had a damn good shot at the primetime ABC slot. The only other games of note are Louisville Miami and UCF Georgia Tech.

The Orange and Maroon you see, that's fighting on to victory.

Yeah, it's surely more compelling than any of that.

It's a rivalry, and the wrong team currently has the cup.

Plus, it'll be in Lane Stadium. With a bunch of cardboard Hokies jumpin'.

If I had to put money on the time for this game it would be 3:30. ESPN has a hard on for Miami being "bak" and Satterfield at Louisville has all of talking heads on TV talking.

I wish I had a nickle for every time those teams were bak or overrated.

I think the only reason it wasn't finalized is to make sure Miami and Louisville don't step on their dicks week 1 against UAB and Western Kentucky.

The Orange and Maroon you see, that's fighting on to victory.

Will depend a lot on how those two look against their week 1 opponents.

I kinda figured it was a forgone conclusion that Miami would handle UAB then I remembered what they were last seen doing (under their OC who got canned, but still).

The Orange and Maroon you see, that's fighting on to victory.

Or just before that.

Miami being "bak"

I don't think that word means what Miami thinks it means...

I feel like the draw of a primetime game isn't even there this year. Honestly, 3:30 is the agreeable timeslot, especially seeing as everyone will be able to drink or whatever during the games this year.

I love a good nap. Sometimes that's all that's getting me out of bed in the morning.

It's even more agreeable than normal since it won't be competing directly against SEC on CBS that week.

The Orange and Maroon you see, that's fighting on to victory.

3:30 has lowkey always been the best slot.

Pre and post game tailgating possible, later in the season the 2nd half is under the lights, and you can do things after the game if you have evening plans, or you have less traffic exiting a game. Prime time games have the worst traffic and there's no chance of post game plans.

I'd upvote this twice if I could

You can pre-game before noon games, at least when i was at school lots were open at 6 am if not before. I want to say 5:30 was possible but I don't get up that early. And eggs and bacon is great on the grill.

Further more you can't drink all day if you don't start in the morning.

We always tailgate for nooners. No matter what time kickoff is, HokieEnginerd and I are in Lot 18 by 9. Some of our crew gets there earlier.

As for doing things in the evening after a 3:30 game is great as long as you don't have a game that goes into 6 OT like UNCheat did last year...

Lots being open just means that someone is standing there collecting money.

I think it was the 2011 Miami game where we rolled in something like five minutes before the lot officially opened (which was stupid early for a Saturday) and proceeded to park for free.

Last year there was a Lot that shall not be named where they didn't even have some standing there to verify parking decals. Someone may have taken their rental car and hid it behind other cars.

I enjoy a good breakfast tailgate and pre-game.

Out in the Airport RV lots tailgaiting starts Friday ~ 7PM and just sort of rolls through the weekend. Eggs, Bacon, Pancakes, Mimosas, Spiked ciders, and Beer start as soon as the 1st hungover chef is awake enough to cook. Usually around 0800 for our crew, Some of the other groups are a little earlier. As you said - you can't drink all day if you don't start in the morning.

I told him I’d crawl on my hands and knees to be the DL coach at Virginia Tech. Now, all of a sudden, I’m sitting in this chair and I told him I’d still crawl on my hands and knees to work here. I just want to be here.

OK, I'll allow it.

Looks like we're poolgating this one at the home of my usual lot 18 group.

This is going to be great for the ACC.

ITT: homegating, staygating, and poolgating... what else we got? watergating? spygating?

Lanaigating out here in Hawaii starting at 4:00am

It's a difficult job, but these beers aren't going to drink themselves.

Powertboat gating...

I'm really looking forward to seeing some drunk cutouts to be escorted out of the student section.

As I recall, the last time we played UVa before November was Vick's freshman year and we won 31-7. Bring it on!

EDIT: Thanks, vtnerf!

That wiki page was clearly written by a uva fan haha its so blatantly obvious its not even funny

Taylor, looking desperately throws it deep..HAS A MAN OPEN DANNY COALE WITH A CATCH ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE FIVE!!!!....hes still open

someone needs to rectify the Memorable Games section. No 38-0, bro? No 2004 blowout as LOLUVa tried to start their own streak? Shameful

I'm wondering, as a cord cutter, what will be my best option to watch this game. I used to just go to a bar for the games I cared about.

How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Jet Sweep

Just get an antenna for this one.

The Orange and Maroon you see, that's fighting on to victory.

I have one, although I have not found it a consistent method to catch the games I want. I might just have to bite the bullet this season. Hell, I'm predicting a short season, maybe I can get away with a free trial with YTTV or something.

How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Jet Sweep

You can always just get Hulu live for three months...

I think ESPN puts the ABC games on ESPN3, which makes them free to stream in the ESPN app without any cable credentials.

But I'm also not sure exactly how things have changed as the conference networks got started up, ESPN realigned their apps, and then the apocalypse started this year.

I still subscribe to YTTV despite them jacking up the rates to $60. I've tried all the major streaming TV services and it is by far the best of the bunch in terms of functionality, and as long as they have all the channels you want I'd recommend it.

Only way I justify yttv is because I switched from Comcast to Verizon for internet and the savings from that counter the price hike from yttv

Fire guy

For me, adding a TV package that includes ACCN would cost about as much as YTTV and is way less flexible. With YTTV, I can pull 3 streams up on separate monitors on my desktop PC (nice for watching football like at a bar), I can watch live and recorded programming on my phone or tablet or laptop when I'm out and about, and I can pull it up on any of the 3 capable devices already plugged into my living room TV. Last time I checked, Xfinity TV can't do most of those things, and having to rent yet another device just to watch it on my TV is a dealbreaker to me.

I should add that you are fortunate to have legitimate broadband competition at your residence. Over the past 12 years, I have lived in 10 different apartments in 4 states, and the only one where I've had a choice in broadband providers is my current place, where AT&T maxes out at 25 Mbps but we have 175 Mbps from Xfinity for $45/month, a 12-month promotional price that is set to expire soon. If I had the power to switch I would consider it, but Xfinity kinda owns the market here.

That is nice. I share my yttv with a few friends and siblings so I doubt I would get 3 streams concurrently without kicking someone off

Fire guy

Multiple windows within the same browser all count as one device. Shortly after I first signed up for the service I pulled up 8 different streams in separate Firefox windows just to see if I could, and they all worked, and then pulled up another on my phone and it didn't kick me off of any of them.

I share it with my wife and a friend, and the only time we've had any issues is when I've forgotten to close a stream on my desktop when I moved to the living room or vice versa. It works pretty well for us.

You're an evil genius.

Fire guy

Dress up like a cardboard cutout and have a good friend place you strategically in a stadium worker's golf cart Saturday morning. Probably ought to lose a few pounds this week.

I'd love to see a 62-0 score with the starters sitting the entire 4th quarter. Put those frenchmen back in their place.

Is coronavirus over yet?

Assuming we play a full season, I would think that TV revenue will be up for the teams that are playing (minus ND who has their own deal). Fewer games for fans to watch, and most fans (including Pac12 and Big10) will be stuck at home with nothing better to do. With out OSU, Mich, and PSU, lots of prime time slots will open up for ACC schools.

I'm not sure how our current TV deal is structured, is there any chance we actually come out ahead (money wise) if we play the whole season?

Beat UVA.

Win ACC.

Make it to the CFP.

Win the CFP.

TKPhi Damn Proud
BSME 2009

That CFP would then be VT vs 3 SEC teams.

That much sweeter to win

I can't imagine any scenario where ESPN pays the ACC more money with fewer games on TV. Though I feel it is important to point out that, this year, the ACC and Notre Dame are pooling their respective TV contracts, meaning that ND gets 1/15 of the ACC's ESPN deal and the ACC gets 14/15 of ND's NBC deal. Though, when I went looking for details on the NBC deal, I didn't find anything concrete and conjecture said that it was about as valuable as the ACC's deal on a per-team basis, so nobody is really gaining or losing much with that agreement.

I wasn't sure how our TV deal was structured and if we get more money (individual or as a league) if we play a 3:30 game on ESPN vs. nooner on ESPN+. I would think that we would get more, and I'm assuming following pay structure: ABC>ESPN>ESPN2>ACCN>ESPN+ and prim-time>3:30>noon.

With half the amount of games being played, a game last year that would have been on ESPN+ might now be pushed to ESPN2, and with fewer games for fans to watch, viewer ship for each game could be a little larger.

But COVID has been killing ESPN, so they'll probably try to keep every penny they can.

I think ESPN just pays the conference a flat rate for games. The time and network decisions are just them best monitizing their investment.

Meanwhile the ACC just evenly splits the TV money, so it doesn't matter if Clemson gets 12 night games and WF gets 12 streaming only games, both schools get the same cut.
