If I was him I'd keep Mines in some fashion for recruiting purposes and JC in some role for alumni type events. Outside of those two, I'm good with whatever he wants. He's the dude.

The best part of this tracker is it's going to look like we lured J-Frank away from PSU.
There's also other fits. He's from the Northeast and he coached for a long time in Ohio and Indiana so not too far away. He left for LSU because he felt ND had a ceiling due to their academic standards, PSU doesn't have those standards so he'd be attracted to that. PSU may also panic (rightfully so) and get cold feet about hiring someone unproven at the Power level (Chesney, Golesh) and decide to go the safe route with someone who has played in championship games before and had a lot of big games as a coach. There's a perception that Kelly has a higher ceiling than Franklin.
Sandman and the lunch pail (only as a turnover reward, such as the stupid chain) should stay. Everything else is for a museum.
I understand the idea of wanting to see the lunch pail retired bc of the lack of blue collar mentality anymore, but it's an iconic symbol. Something that represents Virginia Tech football throughout the nation. No other school has a lunch pail (that I can think of at least). It is uniquely ours. I'd be sad to see it go. It'd be like getting rid of UGA's spiked pads.

That's true, and Kaleb was good and it was definitely a loss. But I wouldn't say he's great and I wonder if that's who HokieRif is referring to. I wouldn't really count that one because he was leftover from the Fuente regime.
Very likely that UCLA sticks with their interim coach. I'm also leaning toward PSU landing on Brian Kelly.

If I'm remembering correctly, Kaleb Smith had a strong year after the first year with Mines. And ended up transferring to ND but had to medically retire.

I never like Franklin at PSU because he stole are recruits and was kind of a jerk, but he was always the biggest asshole to some one when they went after his players. He always seem like he'd defend them to his dying breathe.
Even when he was a jerk it was often because some one was doing stupid shit, which I can understand.
