It can hardly be a coincidence that no language on Earth has ever produced the expression "as pretty as an airport". Airports are ugly. Some are very ugly. Some attain a degree of ugliness that can only be the result of a special effort. This ugliness arises because airports are full of people who are tired, cross, and have just discovered that their luggage has landed in Murmansk (...) and the architects have on the whole tried to reflect this in their designs.

They have sought to highlight the tiredness and crossness motif with brutal shapes and nerve jangling colours, to make effortless the business of separating the traveller from his or her luggage or loved ones, to confuse the traveller with arrows that appear to point at the windows, distant tie racks, or the current position of the Ursa Minor in the night sky, and wherever possible to expose the plumbing on the grounds that it is functional, and conceal the location of the departure gates, presumably on the grounds that they are not".

8 Old Mississippi at 13 Oklahoma (OK -4.5) =Sooners at home I think(hope) can cover
18 South Florida at Memphis (USF -3.5) - not sure here so went with ranked team(but TN schools have screwed me so far ...)
23 Illinois at Washington (UW -4.5) -not sure here so went with ranked team
15 Missouri at 10 Vanderbilt (V -3.5) -praying Vandy covers (but again...TN school so who knows...)
Stanford at Miami(F) (Mi. -30.5) - Think Miami will win but not sure they win by 31 (picked the tiebreaker score at 42)
(3) Tammie at (20) Louisiana State (aTM -2.5) - tough one- LSU Saturday night in Death Valley but Tammie ranked 3rd - flipped the coin and went with higher ranked team to win by 3 or more

For the love of God, please stop choosing games involving teams from TN !!!

This is all well and good. But where are the airport recommendations??

Totally kidding, thanks again for your work on these bar!!

I think Shane would be the least "exciting" hire of the ones you have gone through so far. But, like you, I could see it happening.

Two follow up comments:

  • I really can't believe I'm writing this. I (perhaps naively) assumed that Shane would never come back to Blacksburg because the pressure would be too high. I still don't think he'll come. But there's a lot of smoke.
  • I relied heavily on SP+ for this. I was trying to figure out if Shane's mid records were because he's a mid coach, or because SCar is a mid program in the hardest conference. I guess the answer is still 'I don't know'?

In her new role, Kitley will work closely with Coach Duffy and General Manager Stephen Fishler on key strategic initiatives, including community outreach, fundraising, and NIL efforts. She will also have Women's Basketball home event broadcasting roles with the Virginia Tech Sports Network radio and ACC Network Extra (ACCNX) teams.

In addition to her external duties, Kitley will be actively engaged with student-athletes, serving as a mentor and role model both on and off the court. She will also assist players in developing their personal brands while navigating opportunities within the evolving NIL landscape.

While supporting the program, her time will also be spent in Blacksburg preparing for her return to professional basketball after stints with the Golden State Valkyries and Las Vegas Aces.

Great way to bring back a transformative athlete back to Tech.

If that roster pans out it'd be our best shot we've ever had...its still a long shot just because the perennial power houses are...still powerhouses but it closes the gap some.

He had success in an insanely stratified conference where he was at a school that is top 3 in resources with a giant gulf between them and the rest of the league (for most of the time). As the rest of the league used increased media dollars to catch up, he started losing. He is a recruiter and famously bad in game coach at a time when recruiting is done by GMs with donor checkbooks and the differentiator will be in game coaching. He is falling off as other schools start to get more talent.

an anecdotal experience getting stuck there during some massive storm,

Holy cow do I have one of those!

Early 2020-pre-covid-flying back from New Orleans to Richmond with layover in Atlanta due to land in Atlanta at 6pm on Saturday and depart at 705pm-normally no big deal. This time however there were T=storms blanketing the SE US-bad enough to already be causing some delays til...tornado warnings in Atlanta caused a full ground stop in Atlanta from 550-650 pm! On a busy Saturday! with the aforementioned storms! I watched my departure time for the Richmond flight go from 705 to 8 to 10 to 2am to 330am(along with all other thousand or so flights doing the same as they scrambled to get their planes back into position after their own delays leaving other airports. By some miracle, my flights departure actually move back to 115 am putting us in RIC at just after 2am.(IDK if you've flown into RIC but no flights usually arrive after 10 pm or so and while the airport is 'open' nothing IN it is). Despite being the only flight arriving, it took 30-45 minutes to get my checked bags.

But yeah-not at all in the airport's control and in all honestly, they did a masterful job at getting 'caught up' as quickly as they did!

Yeah Okie State is not above VT. They may have more theoretical oil money to tap into, but they're always little brother to OU, and recruiting in the same region against OU, Texas, Texas A&M...yeah good luck there.

  1. Miami got a $400m cash injection when their university hospital profited so much from treating COVID that they literally didn't know what to do with all the money. For now, they are fine. And right now, it's just about holding on til the next Grant of Rights
  2. That's the plan, but...
  3. I think we get leap frogged as we get screwed by the new TV revenue split (which accounts for the 5 previous years of viewing data, as I understand)

Picking who I want to lose gives me ...

Too busy at work to explain why I want each one to lose. Maybe update later. And say that I really have no true preference in South Florida vs. Memphis.
