I was at the Rutgers' game 2 seasons ago, up in NJ. Even then, you could see that they were having reasonably good success rolling the pocket out and having the crossing patterns. It was where they were most effective. The lack of pocket roll outs with Drones' skill set and liabilities coupled with the very modest pass blocking capabilities of our offensive line is hard to logically explain if the VT coaches actually want to win games.

my reference was specifically to their recent post-season history. Based on the first two games it looks like they might have something figured out this time. Vlad has some more confidence (has his GS ball from yesterday landed yet?), and I can't emphasize how solid the Varland pickup was for the back-half of their pen.

Yeah after the Pry firing I knew ultimately the rest of the season didn't matter. Monty gave us a little hope after NC State, but I'm fairly checked out on the rest of the season now if we continue to trot Drones out there. He's just not a good QB at all. A 50% completion percentage and his lack of production is just not going to cut it at this level. He is SO SLOW at processing a defense, making a decision, reads, everything. And to top it off, piss poor body language. The only reason I can surmise why they continue to put him out there is we've sunk a ton of NIL money into him (talk about lighting cash on fire). I don't understand how Pop or Rangel could be significantly worse than what we've seen. Drones is just pure butt.

I don't think coaches put too much thought into what might happen more than 5 years down the line when taking jobs. You have to remember, they all think that they can win anywhere. They almost all have the drive to move up to the next best thing. They know that coaching is a job that involves a lot of moving around barring a few exceptions.

I have no doubt that if Mullen thinks that VT could be left out of the next round of expansion, he could just use VT to up his profile and move on to a P2 job. If you are at least a decent coach, there will always be other job opportunities if things go south.

Does VT offer enough to be enticing so that we could be in the running?

I'm a bit doubtful tbh. I just think more attractive jobs will open.

If he does crash and burn, is it worth it if he does as well here as he did his first few years at UF?

Mullens worst year at UF was almost as good as Prys best year here

Did he truly learn from his mistakes at Florida so things do not crash and burn at his next stop?

Looking good at UNLV so far. I'm curious how the game vs Boise goes.

Yeah, all we'll end up with is the Schlittler outing. I'm not falling for that fake comeback they pulled today.

Drones struggles (to say the least) in a drop-back passing scenario. He has had some success on roll-outs. So why in the hell did we abandon the run to drop-back passing plays, leaving Drones in the game through all of it? Just awful! We don't know that rolling out Drones more or putting Rangel or Watson into the game wouldn't have sucked, but it's obvious that what we did do led to a big fat L.

Outside of last years funding debacle, which I think was slightly overblown, tech basketball has had one its best decades ever under Whit. And it's looking like this year will be a significant improvement from last years dip

They got spanked again...down 2-0.

My question with Mullen is:

  • Did he truly learn from his mistakes at Florida so things do not crash and burn at his next stop?
  • If he does crash and burn, is it worth it if he does as well here as he did his first few years at UF?
  • Does VT offer enough to be enticing so that we could be in the running?

I totally would be happy if we hire the guy.

Man, it will be disappointing if the Yanks go and win it all.

I think choosing sec/big 10 over acc isn't the strong argument most people think it is.

It's circumstantial. But I think most circumstances favor the P2 schools. After all, even the bottom of the P2 rung is making double the TV dollars that VT is making.

The other thing about the ACC... it's not hard to imagine a scenario where the ACC falls and VT gets left out of the P2 like Oregon State or Wazzou got left out of the P4. I think coaches think about those things.
