Good chance they're going to come into Blacksburg ranked on an almost 2 week bye? They play today, then play in Blacksburg on the 24th. What an odd scheduling quirk

"

Ummm-no; they play UNC on Friday the 17th; they play us the next week on Friday the 24th. We have 13 days off after the game at GT non the 11th; it's US who have almost two week break not Cal;then after us they play the Hoos(who have to travel to Cal to play)

While I know nothing, I surmise that Drones is a good practice QB, showing stuff during the week he can't seem to trot out during live action. I'm firmly in the camp of let's try everybody just for gits and shiggles, and try to come up with a team that can maybe put a little crimp in UVA's season. We already know we have no favors left on the schedule, so why the hell not?

I thought he was a good fit in it as he looked a little fish out of water in it.

Pat Summerall and John Madden did an outstanding job of making fun of themselves.

He would be intriguing and I think a good coach here. Arguably the path the playoff is much easier in the ACC than in the entire G5. With the cash infusion we could offer a competitive salary and I wouldn't mind paying it for a proven coach. The biggest issue will be does a SEC back up a brinks truck.

The idea that he could help pick the GM and push duties he doesn't want to that guy is also big.

I think more realistically, we hire him he improves the program and shows he still has the chops in a P5 program. Then gets hired away. But that still leaves us with a better program.

I don't think he's leaving Penn St right now, they'd be insane to fire him (who is the better replacement, not to mention his buyout). Of course, college football programs are known for the rationality and measured responses.

But yeah, for all of the "[this coach] can't beat the top ten". Most people don't beat the top ten. It's why it is so shocking when it happens. I think this loss for Penn State is more akin to our loss to JMU years ago after the Boise St loss. A hangover after the crazy ending to last week's game and overlooking an opponent.

Too bad Gene Hackman died earlier this year; he did an amazing job in 'The Replacements' with 'unpolished players' and built an entire roster from scratch! (plus maybe he coulda brought that entre cheerleading squad with him to Lane...)

Steady 3; moved up to tie for 4th! Helps that 2 of my 3 misses were Navy and Texas both of which were only picked right by one player (and not the same one)-side note have we ever had that happen before TWO games of 6 that nearly everyone picked wrong team? My other miss was picking FSU over Miami- hate both teams so went with hoping Miami wasn't 'bak'- c'est la vie.

The tailgating was fun (my friend and I are having a race to 30 in drinking backgammon games -I started strong in the first two weeks but he stormed back with 7 straight wins; this week I had another string of wins only to drop back towards the last few). The clubbing was also good-though a bit annoyed the game took over 3.5 hours to finish so I was late getting there.

It was hot and sunny at the game (after being cold and foggy when we arrived at 545AM)-better than two weeks ago though. At least the next game at Lane is a night kickoff again! Nice to see the 1965 'Claiborne Gang' team (including Frank of course) honored during one of the TOs.

If VT really is serious about athletics and we really are putting our money where our mouth is with this current investment that the BoV approved, then I'm less worried about VT being left out than I was before. I think that has always been the biggest question for us, in that are we going to legitimately fund a program to compete or if we would continue being cheap. This answers those concerns.

Of all the big fish out there, this is the biggest. If he's at all interested, you throw everything you have to get him in.

And this is where the investment into football that we're currently making could pay off big.

I've been thinking similar things. God knows, I don't want Franklin here. Think he is full of it and doubt he could win without top talent. But, to be fair, for all the criticism 'Big Game Frank' always choking, at least he is good enough to get into a big game. Our last truly meaningful game was what, the ACC Championship against Clemson?

2024: 13-3
2023: 10-3
2022: 11-2
2021: 7-6
2020: 4-5
2019: 11-2
2018: 9-4
2017: 11-2
2016: 11-3

I could live with that

That HR was a monster shot, and it will probably orbit something slightly less than Jorge Soler's 2021 Game 6 HR ball (which I believe is still in orbit).

We have not seen any RB screen passes yet. We get the run going and they stack the box and start coming downhill, give them the ol RB slip screen and let Stewart out Hawk flatten some DBs. Easy read and pass for Drones and our OL has been so porous the defense would be able to tell the screen was on.

Great... James Franklin next coach at VT.
