They had their choice in choosing to do nothing. They put their heads in the sand and quintupled down on "student-athletes", and ceded the decision making to the lawyers and the courts.
Yeaup I remember that guy. He'd post a ton of comments back when we got an auto +1 leg for each comment posted to keep his numbers up. He's really the only guy in the history of this site that I remember having a real problem with
Fair - VT has no business even attempting to hire Clark Lea away from Vandy.
2024/25 Clark Lea was what we wanted Brent Pry to be.
Possibly...but that has to be very embarrassing for Whit.
Maybe there is a some sort of plan on the table for "Co-ADs" with one heading Football (maybe Bball too?) and Whit left with non-rev sports.
But that seems messy and you clearly can't pay Whit the same for less duties. Also doesn't address the need to remove some of the "old heads" from the AD.
My guess is he stays on til 9/30 then crafts a Resignation thanking Virginia Tech and looking forward to "exciting new opportunities"
Not sure I buy that. Three times in the first half, he slid well short of contact and as a result we didn't get the first down. In the second half, I don't think he slid after getting chewed out during half.
Bobby Petrino is universally hated by players, coaches, and ADs. He's had actual HR issues - sleeping with subordinates, etc. Gus might be a weirdo, but he carries none of that baggage, and I'd argue is a better offensive mind.
Also, look at his head coaching record. Yea, he got kinda screwed at UCF when they transitioned from G5 to P4/5, but otherwise, his record is pretty stellar. Gus would get this program back to .500 quickly.
I can live with that.
Funny enough Ballein has already been planning for retirement, but his exit might just be moved from the slow lane to the off ramp.
Champagne wishes and caviar dreams, with a Cisco budget.
In a different world, he could have been beloved as Bud2.0. He just isn't an HC.
Heck along those lines do you want Bobby Petrino to have a HC position again. /s
"heart problem"

Tech Sideline did a good podcast on this topic. Apparently, Whit is not involved in the new hiring decision, beyond department support, and a committee that reports to Sands is doing the search and selection. They seemed to think that Whit will remain through the coach hiring decision while his replacement is also found.
Dont know, but Little Bobby Tables is his buddy IRL. Don't know if he wishes to share anything.
Unfortunately no luck. VT men's dropped the match to Boston College 0-1. Next they travel to Standford for a match on 9/21 at 10 PM Eastern.
Women's soccer have dropped their last two to #19 UNC (1-2) and Louisville (0-1). They next head to WF on 9/18 for a 7 PM match.
Agree- the Vandy game I couldn't see the fight in the last of the 3rd til end of the game, but this week I was at least happy to see us scoring. The 'crowd'-usingthat term loosely-was engaged. Technically, we 'won' the second half!
There is that one guy years ago, who created two usernames and posted from both of them and then I think Joe called him out on it and he left the site?
Ah, good ol' Bender. Hokieknight something and then HokieMacGuyver or some such. Dude loved sowing chaos. There were a couple of others, too, who really went all in on trolling, but we took care of them fast. Bender was always right on the cusp. Joe gave him a time-out for a bit, then the guy promised to behave...and didn't. Bye.
The Pry and Collins comparison is also appropriate because not only were they very similar as HCs (not good, in over head), but I believe they are also good friends, lol.
But yeah this is a great analogue to our situation. It is possible for us to turn this around, we just have to nail the AD and HC hires and get alignment top down. Who we put in these critical roles is super important right now. No more room for experiments or learning on the job.
You want to break some stuff -

I think Fuente talked a good game about recruiting, wanted to do it right and then had two big issues pop up. His chief recruiter got caught sleeping around and the money/support from Tech wasn't there.
Great post as per usual. This certainly seems to me like the right blueprint to follow.
Why should we believe Bitter knows anyone close to the program - this news was broken by ESPN. Not a single local reporter had any scoop. This is more speculation than sourced insight.
Same. I've never had an issue with anyone here, regardless if I agree or disagreed with their opinion or delivery.

Anyways, other than that, I haven't seen anything in the 10-15 years I've been on Tkp that has really rubbed me the wrong way.
So do we know where his account went? Did he nuke it?

Yes, this is embarrassing for Whit.
But also, these aren't career jobs any more. Not unlike being a head coach, very very few stay at one place for ever. You either leave on your own terms, or you stay long enough to become a villain.
