The CBS sports site showed different pics on the ' picks page' than I made(showed me picking TN and showed as a W,and showed me picking Pitt and showed as L,and showed me picking A&M and as a W, and didn't show my total pt tiebreaker win; on the week 3 standings page it correctly showed a single win (the WVU game). The important things showed correctly but would be nice if my 'picks page' actually showed correctly and matched the standings page...

Not at all complaining about how I ended up though. Regressed to the mean and tied for 10th. Hopefully next week is better lol.

Very hard to gauge on this as Hokies have only fired one head coach in the last 30+ years but across football in general the Athletic Director usually announces coaches being fired. I hope this shows Whit is sidelined to provide left seat ride of basic info for an AD selected by someone more competent than the BOV/Sands. Really hope Bruce Arians has a big role in this next phase of Hokies football. Football needs a General Manager more than an Athletic Director.

Nico Iama-runningoffmynewcoach helped UCLA beat us to the punch.

almost certainly a VT record. I'm a little amazed it actually happened to be honest

If Virginia Tech hires Michael Vick, with one year of experience taking L's at Norfolk State, I am out. I'd rather be drum fishing and watching early season hockey than watching another disaster.

If Brent Pry, with almost two decades of experience in the coaching profession who was well-respected amongst his peers wasn't prepared for the respoinsibility of a head coach, how is a guy who has done of the leg work, who got a job at Norfolk State because he was a legend in the area (and they were desperate for something to get butts in seats) and not because of any competency, AND had a reputation for being poor at preparation and reviewing film, going to come in and right the ship. It will be a good story until the lights come on, and then it will look like a mess.

At this point, I want someone who has shown they can do more with less, who can change the culture, and try to create some kind of foundation to build on. I loved watching Michael Vick make plays. That doesn't make him head coaching material, just like Mark Messier bringing the Cup to the Rangers in no way qualified him to be a head coach or GM of that team.

Is it? They lost two very close games at the last second to a top 10 and top 15 team.

Guess so ....Dallas just got a game tying 64 yarder as time expired against the Giants

Fitzgerald's whole value prop at NW was that he was a "molder of men". The fact that there was that hazing scandal under him and he had no idea what was going on really proves. He wasn't that great at the thing he was known for IMHO.

I was going to ask, any other time VT has had to fire a coach, the announcement has come from the AD right? Surely this means Whit was not allowed to make this announcement? Or is football considered so big that the President has to make the call instead of the AD?

I am tired of bad football. The message never matched the production. Don't let the door hit you where the good lord split you.

I am going to say it, and nobody will agree, but I would love to have Tim Beck, who has been brilliant designing offenses that compete against better resourced schools now at Pittsburgh State, New Mexico State, and Vanderbilt. Bring in Jerry Kill to bring back the attitude that Vandy just punked VT and USCe with. Not sure who they would bring on defense, but if those are two guys paired together that have a consistent track record of changing the culture at moribund programs. And make no mistake, Virginia Tech is the USS Lexington, slowly sinking after getting hit by torpedos in the Battle of the Coral Sea.

After that effort, there are some players who need to return some NIL cash, because they stole that money last night.

I'd be pumped about Gus personally. IMO that's the same as the Mullen hire.

Delayed stream of consciousness post here. Didn't get home til 3AM (after being up for 44 hours straight). The tailgate was fun (if a tad warm in the sun). Amazed the crowd was as large as it was-just shows how great our fans are (though interestingly the West stand were the 'emptier' ones. The first half was ..'painful' but just a dull pain. Great support from the crowd for the halftime show with the HS kids joining the MV for the show.

Was at least a pulse from the offense in the second half (hey if they had done that both halves we woulda scored 52 points, lol) ! Celebrated retaining the 'non-shut out streak'. Crowd was thinner but not mass exodus til mid to late 3rd qtr. Those left at least made some noise. The good part was we had cell and wifi service by that point so we could keep up with other games. By the 4th I was able to lie down on the aluminum bench to watch the game(wish I 'd had someone nearby take a pic.(Made it feel like I was watching from home). Sat back up after the long pass to set up a TD. Could hear the ODU cheerleaders at times even though our seats are in row 4J. Told my friend at 6 minute to go pt-'Hey we can still come back - just need 4 TDs with 4 two-point conversions and we are even- 1:45 per drive...it's possible, lol'.

We were among te last 1-2K non-ODU fans that stayed til the absolute end of the game. Glad to be two of the delusionally supportive fans. (Jokingly asked the fan in the row above me if he thought the number of people who were 'required' to stay til the end (the teams, the announcers, stadium staff, the MV and the Corp)outnumbered the actual 'fans' still there.

The traffic on drive home was 'non-existent.
Side note- we were the first ones in Lot 18 at 5:58 (beat the other earliest arriving tailgater by two minutes) and it was still dark; we were also the LAST car in the lot.

Yes we're doing it again next Saturday. Work Friday(getting up about 7 am); play in pool tournament from 7-11pm; hit the club from 1130-2am closing. Get picked up from the club at 2 am to get to lot 18 about 6am. Tailgate til 1045; walk to the game(I'm old and out of shape- we stop at benches 3 times along the way for 1-3 minute rest breaks); game s/b over by 330-4pm; drive back to Richmond and hit the club from 7/8 pm til 2am closing time. Carpe diem- gotta live life to the fullest.

Go Hokies!

Note- we are still perfectly positioned for an ACC title! Remember these non-conference games are 'warmups, lol ! And wouldn't that just be the Hokie and 'goACC' thing to happen?

Gus Malzahn has the FSU offense looking like a well oiled machine. How's he as a HC?

You have to consider the context too though...

Their improvement (which was really just 2023) also coincided with a massive TV contract and huge financial investment (new Stadium)-neither of which Fitzgerald had the chance to benefit from.

Not saying he the ideal candidate but he's got more P4 wins than anyone else we will have any shot at and has all the motivation in the world.

this is what i hope is the case. Basically helping out the search team by letting them know the info we have already gathered.

In all seriousness, I hope it's more like "these are the people on staff who have lots of info you may not know about. This candidate has these red flags we are already aware of internally, but haven't shared publicly, this guy quietly turned us down last time" etc.

Should somebody open up that coaching carousel thread? Is week 3 a record?

Idk, I think he's an overrated coach. The fact that the team improved after he left is... not good.

Andy Staples/On3
His list, in no particular order:

  • Jamey Chadwell - liberty
  • Ryan silverfield - Memphis
  • Alex golish - USF
  • Mike Vick - Norfolk state
  • Tyson Helton - WKU
  • Buster Faulkner - GT OC
  • Jeff Monkin - Army
  • Brian Newberry - Navy
  • Grumors! (As a joke)

I would be excited about Golish or Helton. Could get excited about Faulkner as well, but not in love with it.
