Glad to hear it might not drag out to December. But given how underperforming last year was compared to expectations, I would have hoped they had already had a summer meeting that put in guidelines of what to do. Especially for the worst case 0-3 scenario we're in now.

I guess they could have had that for Pry but the wrinkle now is adding Whit to the chopping block

There were more than a couple people on this board if you go back and look at the transfer portal posts that were dragging him and calling him trash, and that he'd get exposed in the SEC. Then me and you were saying that he's legit even if he wasn't consistent in 24 and this is major loss. My argument was the staff was prepared to lose him because they thought he was going pro.

Lot of copium from posters here, I feel vindicated in my defense of Delane's talent.

Budbot is insightful. I think the other guys are smart too, they all bring a slightly different perspective that holistically gives me a good sense about what is going on throughout the country.

The other thing is prior to the season I asked Bud what he thought of VT, and he said losing Delane, Chaplin, and to a lesser extent B. Moore was a big problem and we're one of the few schools that didn't retain talent through rev share. Most other schools retained the guys they really wanted to keep, we did too for a lot of guys but not critical OL and a CB who's now leading LSUs defense.

But big time ADs and coaches like these who are making absurd money and then have a parachute when they're fired, I have no sympathy for.

Those guys aren't doing their job (just) for money - they are there for self fulfillment, for their egos, etc. And now they are publicly failing.

I've been laid off with a nice enough parachute before (not a 'buy out' but severance pay outlasted my unemployment) and that was sorta shameful/disappointing. No matter how much you pay me, having millions routing for me to be bought out/fired is going to be a difficult, shameful, pitiful experience.

The roster is worse than what he had in his first year. We have no DBs worth anything, we have no one that resembles a LB. The Dline is okay. Our Oline is bad, our QB isnt good. Our RBs actually look okay for not having an Oline. And while we have more than one reciever, it doesn't matter when they are slow and no one cant get them the ball.

Thanks.

Cover 3 is such an enigma to me. Bud is probably the smartest media in college football (when it comes to personnel at least) and the other guys on the show are kinda idiots. I really want Bud to go to a show with smarter folks.

I said this in the other week3 game thread, but look at Duke, they paid Tulane's QB and them lost to Tulane. Thats some bad NIL spending there.

I was debating whether or not to post this, because I don't have full information, but I was told last night to be ready for a full BOV meeting by the end of the month. The topic will be athletics. Tentative for 9/30. The full board would not convene if there were not going to be action items, so this isn't some kind of informational session. This is being put together in a hurry.

Fuck them all, there is absolutely no excusing it whatsoever

Can't blame folks for quitting when leadership is inept.

Everyone else is playing by the same rules. Other colleges are actually operating with even LESS money than we are. They still aren't this bad. I get wanting to blame this on NIL, but ultimately the VT athletic department is rotten to the core.

This is the issue.

Really good episode of Phantom Island this week talking about how to best use NIL and how managing comp at the college level is different than NFL level. With data to back it up. I'd wager my salary that Pry & Co aren't putting this simple data to use.

Pry has:

  • made bad assistant hires
  • made bad in game decisions
  • allowed for the mismanagement of the offensive line for 4 years

Whit has:

  • Failed to hire professional fundraisers
  • Failed to hire around/force coaches to hire around their blindspots

Time for changes.

Who thought Delane was trash? He had to cover for the entire defense, and couldn't do his own job because he was forced to do everyone else's.

I'm not concerned about roster turnover. It is what it is. Put JC as interim. Maybe he can motivate the troops to get wins over wofford and wake, and at least not quit. Roster turnover is a problem for next year.

If we finish the season winless, it literally won't be able to get worse.

I can't believe that it's even gotten to this point. The team checked out this year after SIX quarters of football.

There was a lot of skepticism about how real the 2023 turnaround was. And after the wet fart of Pry barely getting a "dark horse playoff contender" to bowl eligibility last year, that should have erased any doubt about his lack of HC ability. WTF are we doing right now? 2025 is going to be a completely wasted season.
