The part that seems weirdest is the "of my choosing." So even if he wasn't going to get fired, he doesn't plan on being around long? Is it because he doesn't feel appreciated, or doesn't like it, or just wants to move to a different university or what?

You say that, but isn't that exactly what happened at FSU last year? Sometimes you just don't want to play for a coach. Apparently that was a temporary thing or one or both of the coordinators. But they're doing well now 🤷‍♂️

But how will that work out for them? If I'm looking at a WRs tape from our games, and see all the lazy routes, the rounded off breaks, the lack of ability to get separation... I've also gotta see something that makes me think "No, this kid is really good, it was the team that sucked. He'll thrive here."

And this team looks like trash not just because of ill-fitting scheme and poor play calling and bad coaching, but because of lack of execution, effort, and fire on the part of the players. Who's looking in the portal and thinking, "Yep, we need some of that!"

All that to say, I don't understand the players checking out. Even if you're disillusioned with VT football, aren't you better off busting your ass to prove that you weren't one of the reasons for this failure?

Over. I was among those hoping Pry wouldn't come out for the second half. Now I'm hoping he's gone on Sunday, but who are we kidding? Change will happen in December, after the buyout drops.

Would firing a coach at halftime have the same effect as pulling a goalie in hockey? "You schmucks just got coach fired! Now let's go out there and take our anger and embarrassment out on the other team!" What's the worst that could happen, the team quits more? They've already quit.

Judging from the way the players quit on the school they can get fucked if they think I'm going to worry about where they play next year.

That can all fuck off. They'll all be lucky to have contributing roles at any major football program next year

It seems to be quite difficult to parse Techs bad players from players in a bad system or the combo of both. At this point I wouldn't be that shocked if even Drones, who certainly has had his struggles, transfers to some smaller program like a Western Michigan and just lights it up. Could see similar glow ups at decent programs from guys like A. Greene, Copeland, even Benji. It'll happen to someone on this roster.

Yep...

When the going gets tough, the tough count their NIL and go back in the Portal.

Something like that, no??

Just listened to pry in the press conference. Sounded like a beaten man with no answers and nothing of substance to say.

He has nothing going from here on out.

Welcome to the NIL effect. A bunch of mercenaries playing for the name on the back rather than the front. No fire, no pride in putting on the uniform, just 40 yd dashes to cash the checks. Win or lose? Who cares as long as the checks go through before eligibility runs out..

If we're not gonna win again for a decade, why fire anyone? Why waste your money? Why not just light it on fire?

While we're gutting Merryman let's put the lunchbox in a display, along with the 25 jersey. No more of that "glory days" shit. Beamer was great, but that was eons ago. You don't see FSU awarding the "straw fedora" to some kid to try to hold on to the Bowden years. There's no "sweater vest" award at Florida. Time to move on.

Stanford is pretty bad too. But we are making a strong argument for worst power team and that argument seems to get stronger every quarter.

I'll believe change will be made when I get the notification on my phone. Until then I expect Pry to be on the sideline in 2026.

Might not have a winning season the next decade.

I'm slightly more optimistic, if we get the right AD and HC in here, things could turn around quicker than you might think.

Elko went 9-3 year one at Duke. Cignetti took Indiana to the playoff last year. Etc, etc.

I'm kind of in the same place as Chris Coleman. As bad as things are right now, knowing that Merryman is about to be gutted, finally, has me feeling better than I have in a long time. It feels like a chance to fix what's wrong and do a hard reset. We just... really have to nail these hires.

Problem is...I really don't know if we can ever be truly competitive at a high level again. Even with a new Ath. Dept. and tons of money.

VT is uniquely poorly positioned to compete in the Pay For Play Era. It's why when everyone was crying for "these poor athletes," I was wary that VT would rapidly fall behind teams that would simply price them out of the market for better players...and that's pretty much exactly what's happened. Look at us now--we have cornerbacks who can't cover anyone, linebackers who don't tackle, and OL that can't block, and a QB with zero awareness.

Sure, Pry is a total duncecap and with an even marginally intelligent coach, we can get back to the point where we are beating ODU and the like. But the ACC is about to fall apart and we clearly aren't going to be a target for the P2 at this point.

You look at Duke who's all of a sudden gone "all in" on Football, overpaid for a QB, and are about to go 1-2. Do we want to do that?

Is there really a huge difference between 5-6 wins and 7-8?

Because we aren't getting in "The Club"--- the "haves" of college football have fully manipulated the system to the point where they functionally control the flow of money and talent--and they aren't interested in sharing.
