takes me back to winning the VS concert back when I was in bburg with tons of tabs open voting for VT.
From what I've read on other sites, it sounds pretty likely to happen. Supposedly he was looking for a first round evaluation and that hasn't materialized.
So I'm holding off being excited about this until I hear he's withdrawn from the draft, which I know has to happen before the 15th.
Any idea on if this has or is going to happen?
Caught in a violent thunderstorm in mid-float on the New on a guided trip, all three of us were hollering for mommy as lightening hit the trees on the bank and limbs were falling from trees. Nowhere to run, nowhere to hide, we hunkered down below a rapid and I dropped anchor to keep us away from the damage. The wind was so fierce, it blew us up part of the rapid before the anchor stopped that. We started talking about dying that day. One guy said he'd miss his family, or that they'd miss him. I said I didn't want to leave the world yet because I didn't want my little dog to be without her daddy, oh, and of course, the wife. The third guy said he didn't want to die that day because he was afraid his wife would sell all the hunting and fishing gear he owned for what he told her he paid for it. We all laughed at that and it broke the tension of the moment.
The storm was bad, power lines down and a boy scout troop who were in canoes (despite numerous weather reports about the storms) lost a couple of boats and had to call the rescue squad for a couple of scouts that had panic attacks as they knelt in a field to ride out the storm. We were grown adults and were aware we'd get a storm and decided to go anyway, but those scout leaders were negligent. Not the first time scouts were led by kids just a little older than them and made bad decisions, like heading up Mt. Rogers with snow coming, half the boys in sneakers. They had to be rescued and one of the rescuers ended up with frostbite.
Our day ended pretty well, but we couldn't get them on the road because of downed powerlines. I got a fire dept. guy to "guide" us to their car to wait for the electrical people to fix the lines. Whiskey in paper cups ensued, and we passed the time well. Once we were allowed to leave, they headed for DC and some government meeting. A couple of hours after getting home, I got a call from them. They were drunk as shit and passing Roanoke, but realized their condition and wanted me to arrange a hotel room for them. Oh well, all part of the service, right? And, they had tipped me generously, always a way to a guide's heart.

No team championships in ~150 years is not the definition of not embarrassing. Shitting the bed against Boise State on the national stage or LSU or Bama or more recently Tennessee at Bristol or Kansas in a BCS or UGA in bowl game or Michigan in the sugar or ___________ (insert any game)

While the timing made him getting fired unlikely, I agree with the sentiment. I was appalled at the approach, essentially conceding instead of negotiating.
It is pretty difficult to sell more merch when you don't have equal support as other teams from your vendor.
As fans, we all see the lack of Hokie versions of merch that it feels like all other Nike teams get. This alone is an easy point to argue when it inevitably gets brought up, and not successfully negotiating ANY sort of an increase is insane, especially if the ranking of the deals value TSL posted is actually true.

It wasn't that 1 loss 100% ruined your season, more like double elimination. If you had one loss your entire fan base now cared about every undefeated team. We rarely had 2 undefeated teams play for the title. But every 0 and 1 loss teams were watching everyone else. That 1 loss only upped the stakes.
Also in the 2000s we saw 3 of the top 5 upsets of all time. Anyone could lose a game. It doesn't feel that way any more.

IMHO, Neo is effectively a high 4* or low 5* - a guy who will easily be a first round draft pick (with lottery potential) with a good year at VT.
Make sure to go see the waterfall created by tidal change. Its a bit south of Sullivan. There's a small park at the site to see it easily. Its a place to have a tailgate lunch or quick stop just to see it. Not much but just cool that tides create a waterfall in 2 directions at the same spot.
If Pry doesn't "figure it out" and does get fired this year, I worry we are going to slip into nothing as a program. We will be known as that stepping stone school where you can go cash out for retirement (Pry, Fu) or a young up and comer will be here 2-3 years max for the next big job. We will be done as a program.
I don't see this changing at all until we get better leadership and commitment to winning. Key word - winning. Right now we have commitment to doing things the Beamer way, commitment to golly shucks. More cash from donors right now isn't what we need - we need organizational change, or any additional funding is futile.

Which started happening under Fuente, we went from having sold out stadium with season tickets every year under Beamer to value bundles being available. We are starting to slip back to that level. That is why has this year to figure it out or he is gone.
Just saw a post that for next season Texas Tech is slated to pay out a combined $55M to football between revenue sharing and NIL.
I am in the same boat and I have realized over the last couple years that the only reason I still watch VT football in the fall is because of the kids, its one of the only ways I can get out of the house and hang with the guys over the course of the year. If I was able to get out more often, I don't think I would care anymore.
My interest in pro sports has increased during this time because there are legitimate ways for any team to compete. In college, it seems like everyone is working to push us down right now, and it has turned me off on all college athletics, hard. Didn't watch one Hokie basketball game this past year, men's or women's, I didn't even care to know when we were playing. Only college sports that I watched was Tech and the first weekend of the NCAA tournament, and even then there wasn't enough chaos to make it worth it. I honestly have no idea what our football schedule is next year, and really have no clue who our 2-deep is. To me, college sports is dead, might as well be as inconsequential as a AAA baseball or the AHL in hockey.

They're probably Ash trees, and there isn't a damn thing anyone can do about them dying. I can cut firewood all day long on our farm, and never run out of downed, dry logs. The emerald ash borer has wrecked the forests of southwest virginia.
This was the problem I started fully realizing the last several years. Whit is what the powers that be at VT want. He runs the department in the black, seats are full, the money comes in, people get raises and life is good at the Blacksburg Country Club. VT fans are loyal and many will continue to show up and pack the stadium, regardless of the quality of the product. Until we reach a tipping point where the results are unacceptable and the revenue starts drying up, the status quo will persist.
Something that scares me, as an athletics booster, is if we give 10% more, where is that actually going? There is the chicken & egg issue, but I worry if I give them more eggs, will I see more chicken? Or will it be squandered away on things like ridiculous plastic seats attached to bleachers and cute Hokie colored socks mailed to HC members instead of making the actual programs stronger.
I say this because there is so much talk about the lack of parity in revenue and investments, and rightfully so, but I have so little faith that more money will solve VT's real athletics problems. In fact, I could see a future where an influx of cash would cause more harm than good because it would mask all the existing shortcomings of our program, maybe even breeding more complacency and "Just like the Beamer days" mentality.
The product is not 30 mil per team better... its simply not. I don't care what espn says. Nobody watches Northwestern/Maryland on a saturday- zero people watch that.
This last season I probably watched more professional sports than college sports for probably the first time since middle school because most likely a majority of players will be the same the next season.
