The landscape has been circling the drain for years. Now with the House settlement it's going to be interesting to see how far the big players actually take this. It's going going to be extremely interesting to see how long state-funded colleges and universities remain funded by their respective state. I'm not in favor of state taxes going to pay athletes beyond the scholarship.

I believe the payments are going to more like independent contractors. Schools still don't want them as employees due to injury liability but that's probably next step in legal challenges.

With the current landscape in the US and now this declaration that the individuals are employees, yeah, this is the next step. Schools should now be empowered to make decisions that are in the best sense for them financially since this ruling just made it unquestionable that college athletics are a business. If the sports are not going to make money for the school then the school should be under no obligation to support those sports.

This sucks

Basically anything for VT outside of football and mens/women's basketball just got put on notice that their sport might no longer exist in a matter of years.

I'm done with college athletics. This absolutely blows, and there is fault to be placed on a lot of individuals, institutions, and businesses that have led to this.

Thanks to all of them for ruining it.

Someone tell me, am I supposed to:

(1) Root for the ACC teams
(2) Root against the SEC teams
(3) Other (please specify ____)
(4) All of the above

LOTS of games up today. Game 2s for Miami @ Louisville, UNC @ AZ, Auburn @ CC, and OSU @ FSU (very late). Miami, AZ, Auburn, and FSU needing wins today to force a game 3 on Sunday.

Game 1s today:
Murray state @ Duke (1pm)
WVU @ LSU (2pm)
UT @ Arkansas (5pm)
UTSA @ UCLA (7pm)

Loyalty in college doesn't mean anything any more. Not saying OConnor was a loyal guy, but with the way contracts and NIL escalate so quickly nobody should ever be surprised with anyone in any position associated with a school AD being one-and-done. Until VT gets a donor that comes up with the next Apple or Nvidia we need to understand we are a feeder school in all the big sports.

Yes, some of us did and recognized exactly what was going to happen.

Judge approved it. $2.8B will be paid out to athletes from 2016 to now.

Current players can now be paid directly by schools.

Guess we see where it goes from here. Fully expect Athletes prior to 2016 to now form a class action to get paid too.

I personally don't think this fixes anything. It will just mean athletes will get another revenue stream.

Brian O'Connor leaving UVA for Miss St for $2.9M reasons. Over 100% raise. This after UVA doubled his salary last year from $685K to $1.4M.

To put that in perspective. As of 2023, there were six MLB managers earning less than $1 million and 15 managers earning $1.75 million or less.

Shane Gillis was on Joe Rogan recently and they actually started watching VT enter sandman videos and getting hyped. Shane mentions that the VT Miami video was best cfb moment and they talk about the recent metallica concert... starts at the 3:01:00 mark

Full episode link but skip to 3:01:00

I think he's referring to all the people that said it was unfair that the athletes couldn't be/get compensated for playing a game for their school that their school and coaches profited from. Scholarships weren't good enough, worthless even.
No one stopped to think about how it could become the wild Wild West.

Louisville beat Miami 8-1

Oregon St beat FSU 5-4 in 10 inning

They paid her again today...just in time for Texas to open a 5-0 can of whoopass on her to start the winner take all game

Oil money buys one of best softball pitchers with 7-figure NIL deal for Texas Tech's pitcher. Need to find oil in Virginia.

Competitive baseball happening in Corvallis tonight. 2-1 FSU in the 6th.

We could have been in this had we not had a total collapse with our pitchers the 2nd half of the season.

I did Acadia 3 year ago, awesome stuff. Go over to the Schoodic Peninsula, very scenic, less peopley.

West Quoddyhead Lighthouse has some awesome walking trails, and great views. A little bit of a drive from BH

If you are driving up and can spare the time, I used to love wandering through the LL Bean parent store in Freeport Maine.
