He only HAD to play two places, because he kept leading New England to Superbowls.
You guys are off your rockers if you think New England does that without Tom Brady. No, he wasn't the whole team - he had great players on his team, but they wouldn't have had the same level of success without him. He was a fine quarterback.
You NEED a good quarterback for elite results. They touch the ball every play and their play absolutely affects results. Do they need a team and a coach? Sure they do. Just look at Hendon Hooker for some proof of that.
Elite quarterbacks absolutely make a difference. Drew Brees, Tom Brady, Mike Vick - they still need a strong supporting cast, but they make a huge difference and change the character of a team.
Speaking of the portal- in a huge fucking shock Burnham granted 7th year, will enter the portal. These eligibility things are rare I tell ya.

Brady always had what made him, Montana, Elway, Manning, Farve, Marino great- pocket awareness, quick release. The great NFL QBs stand in the pocket calm and avoid the rush and get rid of the ball. Brady was the best ever at slowing the game down, his heart rate never rose in the pocket- calm decisive accurate. If the NFL scouted pocket presence instead of Caleb Williams being a "freak" they would hit on more than they do.

He played 2 places and the teams around him, especially the coaching, were better than y'all are giving them credit for (which I guess was sort of my original complaint anyways). He was setup for success, and to his credit, he took advantage of that. I still don't think his career would've taken off without such ideal conditions. He wasn't exactly a freak athlete in his younger years. To be clear of my original position, I know QBs obviously have an impact on the game, but to my point the top 10 QBs (by salary) effectively take around 1/5 of a teams salary cap. Considering how many quality players it takes to field a competitive team you can't convince me that one single player is worth that percentage of a team's budget.
Personally, I blame stats for this. QBs are inherently stat hoarders. So many of a games yards, touchdowns, etc. are credited to the QB, but for example lets talk passing yards. If Tom throws for 500 yards in a game, he gets all the credit for that stat. The announcers and reporters will say so and the box score will reflect that. It's not all Tom though, it doesn't take into account how well the linemen, the tight ends, the running backs, or anyone else blocked for him, or how much of an effort his receivers made to make those catches and how well they ran their routes. It doesn't credit the gameplan by the coaching staff, and don't even get me started on QBs getting credit for YACs.
The media also hyperbolizes this, I assume because it's an easy and catchy narrative to create. For example, the Ravens-Bills playoff game last year only had 2 guys in the ads for the game, Lamar and Allen. I'm pretty sure they explicitly used the phrase of Lamar Jackson versus Josh Allen a large number of times even. I get that those are the star players, but it misses a lot of the nuance of the game. Not to mention, I don't like it because they never directly compete with each other, like Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen are never on the field playing at the same time. It's a team sport dammit.
The last time the college landscape changed for VT at this scale was conference re-alignment. At the time we did well- made it out of the Big East into what we thought was a great conference. We didn't come out bad. well now times have changed again- lets see how the entire admin reacts. Players are paid millions now- its a different world. Is VT going to adapt?
I feel vindicated
I completely agree here. It honestly shocks me how little we attempt to synergize our pedigree and reputation as an engineering school with our athletics. That SHOULD be our entire brand - that we may not be able to run with the big dogs like Florida in terms of donor money, but we will find a way to beat you by out-smarting you. Out-toughing you. Out-developing you. We are long overdue for a modernization of what was the essence of Beamer's time - we will do more with less, and we will kick your ass doing it, and you will suffer for underestimating us.
That, to me, is how we should have taken Beamer's legacy and ran with it. It's not about doing everything the way Frank did it and being stuck in the past and stuck in our nostalgia. It's about taking the ethos he gave us, and modernizing it for college football in 2025. To me... that absolutely means going all in on the broader skills/assets/attributes of Virginia Tech as a community and university - engineering, technology, analytics - and applying them ruthlessly to our athletics. There's zero reason we shouldn't be using some of the most advanced technology, strategies, etc. and sabremetric'ing our way to a natty. We're never gonna get there trying to be Florida. We have to do it by being Virginia Tech.

There were some rumors that we had Napier until Florida came calling.
I have a very distinct memory of going out to a nice restaurant for my Moms birthday about fifteen years ago in Conshohocken outside Philly and getting skate wing. As you mentioned, a good chef can work wonders sometimes but I remember the meal being fantastic. It wasn't punched since they weren't trying to pass it off as something else but I do also remember the waiter saying the same scallop rumor after my dad asked what skate was like. Wish I could remember more about the preparation and have not seen it on a menu since.
Overlap that 6 hr radius with these numbers and see what percentage of NFL picks over the last decade fall into the range.
My initial thought is we should be hitting OH harder than we are.
The academic side missed the opportunity to keep the same logo.
Also, they apparently stopped inventing the future at an inopportune time.

I will add that my favorite saying is actually from this comic, which is displayed prominently at my cubicle.
I can tell you that for the most part it's no different than any other engineering job.
The tests are cooler though.
I can vouch for that.
Do you ever catch yourself using the phrase: 'it's not rocket science, ya know....'
That phrase comes up at my work from time to time. Along with, "Close only counts in horseshoes, hand grenades, and nuclear weapons." ;^)

On one hand I don't like the idea of hurtling full force into the facilities arms race. OTOH VT wants to be a innovative school on the forefront of engineering and technology. Well all that engineering means little if it doesn't solve a real world problem. So we should be able to (jargon incoming!) synergize some of the academic initiatives with the real world application of athletics. Why can't VT, a technical school, have one hell of a VR setup for any sport where a player could benefit? Feels like we are missing an opportunity here.
Out and back. We caught 6 stripers up to 20" and I got the dubious honor of hooking up with the first cownose ray of the season. Pulled like a champ, it did and we had to chase it down, but when you finally see those wings pop out of the water, the letdown is pretty real, although the improbable strength of the fish was awakening the skeptic in me already. Oh well, Super Flukes was the bait, Paul is better at working them and it showed, but at least I got my hands on my first fish of the season, and got my butt kicked by the first ray, so at least that's been taken care of.
Who is this "we'' you are talking about? Bullshit on your last sentence, too. Bullshit, conjecture and hyperbole at best. And nobody wants us to go back to the 60s. Not nobody, not nohow.
Plus two weeks in the summer.
