I was in the HT's for 4 years, Obviously HS band too. What "resources" specifically does Tennessee's marching band have, that the MVs don't? More directors? A better practice field? More snare drums? I mean we are talking marching band here. Are they allowed to practice more? Honestly don't get it.
Agreed- but there are no secrets anymore. If Braylon wasn't a starter on our horrid soft defense, he won't start elsewhere in the P4 most likely. I think he wants playing time. My guess its Sunbelt or Mac, etc.

But we don't really know the back story. It's possible that his dad knew he might not be P4 starter material and Pry gave him a chance.
That might help the reputation and pipeline.
I don't think most look at portaling out as a reflection of the coach any more. It's just become too common.
Thankfully we will never have to know. I had no hate for Georgia leaving. She posted a nice goodbye message and explained her reasons. The spill from Kenny slinking away in the night spilled onto her inappropriately.
I often wonder if Kitley would've also followed Kenny if she had another year of eligibility available to her.
There is a reason QB and DE are the highest paid positions in the NFL.
Honestly, I thought Tennesee's band was very impressive, as was Alabama's. But those schools have way more resources (and scholarships, I believe) for those bands, so it's not surprising.
My favorite away stadium to play in was the super dome in New Orleans, although I hated marching on a turf field because the little rubber pellets get in your shoes almost instantly. If we don't count NFL stadiums, Lane North was nice because we always won (those were the days). Least favorite was UNC, they stuck us in the corner where they were doing renovations, it wasn't very nice. Although you can't expect the visiting band to get prime seating, so I get it.
I agree with The Law. Unless you've got some additional insider information, that's not a reasonable conclusion. These days players make decisions based on a variety of criteria, including $$$.
Someone not getting the cash they think they're worth (or if they can get more somewhere else) is going to happen with some frequency.
What's your opinion on the best college marching band? Having seen the OSU band at the game VT played at the Shoe in 2014, I hate to say good things about anOSU but their band definitely IS the best I've ever seen; the Bart Simpson skateboarding was amazing. That said the "script Ohio" doesn't hold a candle to the MV running into the shape of Virginia.

I went home to spend Easter weekend with my mom. When I got there she said she wanted to fish, so sans a trout license, I took her to Washington County Park on South Holston using some of Dad's rods.
We set up on a shale point adjacent to deep water on the left and a muddy cove on the right. She insisted on fishing for bluegills, so I got her a tub of mealworms and watched her feed about 40 to the baby bluegills. On my side I launched a chum slick of corn and, using a Carolina rig, 12 inches of 14lb leader, and a size 2 Eagle Claw, put nine carp on the beach in three hours. Dad had purchased one of the Amazon brand live liner spinning reels (Yokashiba I think) and it performed ok. I would have loved to use the live liner with circle hooks.
Mom ended up with two bluegill. After about 4 hours, we went to CC's Noodle Bar in Bristol and downed two bowls of Pho.
My buddy Jack hooked one off the pier but got dumped. Turk got the first kayak fish, then the feds showed up and said they need to have a vessel permit. Now, understand that A) you can't get a vessel permit for a kayak or a pier and B) state jurisdiction within three miles and C) this is a once in a lifetime phenomenon with next to no impact on the quota (unlike all the inshore boats that went and whacked them when the word got out) and this is a textbook example of why a lot of people are so fed up with federal oversight. They won't go after the menhaden boats decimating the Bay, but by god, you better not throw a sluggo off the end of the pier and hook the wrong thing!
Fished off the beach for three days at First Landing State Park last weekend. Not even a nibble until just before we packed up on the last day. Never been so happy to land a skate.

You can tell the UNC catcher was running his mouth the last two days. Most of the shit talking from Hokies hitters yesterday was directed right at him.
Great plan, Oahu is for pearl harbor and that's about it (lots of other things but you can go to another island and see the same stuff with way less traffic). Kauai is amazing.

This may be the hardest question. My first two years (2009, 2010) were a treat. I'll listen several.
Nebraska vs. VT was one- I saw Danny Coale break open down the sidelines before Tyrod did. I remember yelling, pointing at him, just hoping he would throw it.
Miami vs. VT in 2009 was awesome. They were highly ranked (lol), talking trash (lol) and came to Lane in a monsoon and got their teeth kicked in. It rained so hard we couldn't see past the 40, a bunch of people's phones died because the band uniforms don't keep water out, they keep water in, and we had a blast. I remember the first time I went to play in the stands, I nearly popped my eyes out of my head because my baritone was full of water. No sound at all came out, just a stream of water out of the bell 😂
FSU vs VT in the 2009 ACC championship was fun. The weather sucked, but the game was awesome. Kinda strange to hear the hail bouncing off your shako though.
Miami vs. VT in 2010 was also awesome, for a different reason. Close games are fun when we win. And we had the perfect view to watch Logan run it in right up the middle on 4th down, headed right towards the band.
The sugar bowl would have been awesome too, if the officials had realized Danny caught that ball.
1) well, there was a time with a portable stripper pole on one of the buses. I forget what game we were going to.
2) I just didn't like having to learn new shows, music, etc. It was a lot of time invested. I definitely was more of a football fan than a marching fan.
3) Primary gripe with the MVs? That's a hard one, I'm a pretty easy going person. I don't really think I had too much to complain about other than the usual hot, tired, etc. I felt like Coach Beamer was always super supportive of the band, so it didn't seem like a big clash between band and athletics (I have for a long time gone to games at and been a fan of University of Delaware, and I can't say the same for that school).
4) I enjoyed my time at VT but I have had my dog for a dozen years, and for many of them he was my sole roommate. I would do anything for him, and that includes giving up my time at VT.
5) So I don't have a ton of experience in those fields (3D printing, aerospike nozzles, or AI) but I can say a few things. Aerospike nozzles are not new technology- they've been around a long time and have their advantages and disadvantages, just like any other engineering design. Where I see the most excitement in the industry is in 3D printing- that's where you'll see the biggest gains and the biggest jumps forward in technology. The industry is investing heavily into 3D printing, because in our world the limiting factor isn't really in the conceptual design, but that we can't manufacture these advanced, improved designs with the capability we had previously. Being able to print complex geometry rather than conventional machining is a game changer for nozzles, but a whole lot more. In fact from what I have seen, the biggest use so far seems to be in air breathing designs (think hypersonics). There's some other applications that are extremely interesting in my world, but I won't mention them here.
6) AI is the current buzzword that I've actually seen the least impact in my job. I'm not sure if that's mostly due to security concerns (believe it or not us folks at the working levels do have to worry about that), or just lack of a solid use case. My company does have some internal AI tools, and I can see a possible use at the conceptual design level, but I struggle to see it revolutionizing our industry. Maybe I'm just not visionary enough 🤷
Ironically I never had the patience for it. I do own it but rarely have played it. Just not my sort of game, and if I spend too much in it it starts feeling like school.
We're headed to Hawaii for two weeks. A short visit to Oahu for Pearl Harbor, then splitting our time on Kauai and the big Island.
