My man is flexing Vandy Cuse Rutgers and Duke in football. What a time to be alive. Seriously. Rutgers sucks- I saw them with my own eyes this past year. Vandy was 6-6, and Duke had zero good wins. Come back to reality. We didn't lose to top 20 teams by one score.
in his interview he says all the NIL numbers are comparable and that the reported numbers are insanely overstated
I disagree, but your argument is an interesting one.
I would frame the question this way: Does the university of Alabama (as an institution) have more in common with Ole Miss/Mississippi state, or USC/Ohio State?
- 20 years ago, the answer was obviously the Mississippi schools.
- Today, I think it's a toss up
- In 15 years I would wage the answer is USC/OSU
When we get to the point that Bama has more in common with OSU/USC/Oregon than regional neighbors like Ole Miss/South Carolina/Mississippi State, regional affiliation will no longer matter (at least from a revenue-driving perspective).
Yeah, we play a lot of one score games- against bad teams of course.
Each of the five teams we lost to by one score (Miami, Vandy, Syracuse, Duke, Rutgers) finished the year with a winning record. Three of those teams finished with >9 wins, and two finished ranked in the final AP poll.
This just hits on a pet peeve of mine where fans call every team that doesn't make the post season 'bad'. "Alabama was bad this year" - no, they were indisputably one of the top 25 teams out of the 134(?) FBS teams.
We had five one-score losses to top 40 teams. I would call Miami and Syracuse 'good'. I would call Duke and Vandy 'decent' and Rutgers 'mediocre'.
I would say VT was quite mediocre this year. A top 40ish team. Good compared to FBS. Bad compared to what we were 15 years ago. Mediocre compared to Power teams.
We never get a critical stop on defense.
Hence why the DC was fired.
We can never move the ball consistently on offense against a good team. Its a huge tuten run or long 50/50 ball.
Facts! We were slightly worse (relative to the rest of FBS) at moving the ball consistently (overall success rate of 41% - 42.5% is considered good for a college football offensive) than we are at big plays (1.28 avg EPA on succesful plays; 0.9 is considered good).
these people don't watch the fucking games.
Did you read the article:
Virginia Tech is +3500 at FanDuel Sportsbook to win the ACC Championship. At FanDuel Sportsbook, Clemson, Miami, SMU, Louisville, Georgia Tech, Florida State, North Carolina, and Duke have shorter odds than the Hokies to win the conference title.
That sounds about right to me. +3500 means that VT has ~2.77% chance of winning the ACC. That seems quite reasonable IMO.
And you thought football was insane
We had a D2 kid starting at RB the last two years.
Here I'll just reply for dc since I've seen this interaction loop on every thread about next seasons players:
"If we're thinking we're going to get a Tuten out of every D2 player we take we're in trouble, that's not a strategy for success" or something along those lines.
We had a D2 kid starting at RB the last two years.
Yeah, if someone throws that to him, he should take it.
I see what you're saying, but regional affiliation is still very real, and people want to see their regions represented, regardless of where their video feed comes from.
TV Markets are becoming less and less important. For now, they bring in a sizable amount of money, but that will change drastically in the upcoming years. No team is getting added to a P2 conference just for the TV Market.

Yes but only alabama is close to what Iowa, PSU, and OSU are in wrestling, Clemson has never been a power house like those 3
I'm pretty sure the status quo is everyone tampers, and if you're not tampering, you're not trying.
One reason VT has had such great success with bring VA guys home is they're constantly in the ear of the HS coaches, families, etc. Pry tampers with the best of them (which is technically allowed by the NCAA rules, anyways). And I think Price openly admitted it at one point.
I'm trying to think of an apology but can't.
When I was married, my marriage counselor suggested I start with "I'm sorry."
**************
To your actual intent, If VT were to pull this off, I think a good analogy would be when South Carolina got Jadeveon Clowney over Clemson, Alabama, LSU, etc.
Also, it's not the worst place in the world, as the P2 will eventually figure out that while they want all the pie, they want the pie to be bigger.

They'd better be teaching that in high school, as some athletes get even earlier exposure.

My Hokie bias might be showing, but really hoping my Browns target both Tuten and Peebles if either are there late in the third through 5th rds
Players take extra decals with them to trade with each other.
$5M seems to be the number people are throwing around

Why were there VTs on the sides of of the NC State helmets?
