Also...I think this is an indicator that PJ will be taking a medical redshirt in 2025. Bennett makes a lot of sense as a 1 year PJ replacement in the 3rd down / change of pace role.

In former Hokies news, Darius Maddox puts up 17 to lead George Mason over Darren Buchanan, who had 15, 80-77 in double-overtime.

Buchanan was 5/5 from the floor with 8 rebounds. Maddox was 6/15 with 6 rebounds. The win moves George Mason into 1st in the A10 at 5-1 and 14-5 overall.

I doubt we will ever get any official confirmation on that. Just like everything with VT, it's always innuendo and rumor behind paywalls from insiders, no leaks, and VT spins the final result as their first and best choice. Most other schools have reporting and agent leaks. I guess since VT isn't a big time football program anymore and most of the media covering the team has dried up or is too scared to really report, this is all we get.

Yeah, I was wondering about their grades. Just thought it would be interesting. like I said, I appreciate all the work! It doesn't DOES really seem like we've improved over most of the players who left. Even though the OLine grades aren't quite as good, they're close, and hopefully we now have a coach that can develop the entire line and get a lot out of them. I really think Bowen will be able to put a lot of points on the board with a good line.

Edit: meant to write DOES. And added "most of"

He has heart problems. He might as well say, "one extra large heart attack to go, please." Being an analyst and mentor is great because it doesn't have any of the stress of being an actual coach.

Unlike schools who have turned over coaches a lot, we have very little historical evidence to suggest ANYTHING really. In the past 30 years, we've had, what, 3 DCs (Foster, JHam, and Marve). That really is next to nothing to go on. The past 2 head coaches have only had one OC each, and we all know under Beamer, the goal was doing more with less, and we were usually counting on Foster's defenses to keep us in games, and even so, Whit didn't preside over any OC hires under Beamer. So we're back to Whit going with the selections of OC for the 2 coaches he hired, and no turnover. There really isn't much evidence that really suggests anything about new coordinator hires under Whit.

The only thing we really have is going from Foster to JHam. We definitely had more cash than what we spent on JHam, so that means Foster's recommendation of him must have gone a LONG way. Yeah, as DC pointed out, Fuente wanted Scott, but that was another of his guys and as far as I can tell, doesn't indicate anything about just how much money Whit would/could have put up for a DC hire. And as we saw with Fuente, he was willing to ride the sinking ship with Corny, which suggests it was a lot more about coaching with his guys than cash or preserving his career.

This really seems to me to be the first hire we will have seen that will demonstrate just how much Whit is willing to cut a check for.

If we've swung and missed, why not an announcement yet? There are all sorts of DCs available that aren't playing anymore this year. Someone said they'd heard there were a bunch of interviews going on last week. Have we heard there are still interviews going on (I haven't seen anyone say within the past 5 days or so that they've heard there are still interviews going on, all we know is there hasn't been an announcement)? If not, that implies we have made a selection but just not announcing. Then the question becomes why haven't we announced yet.

In all honesty, I hope Pry didn't spend much time on Banks because he was a pipe dream of a candidate.

At this point, one has to assume we have made serious inquiries to our "top targets" and have been rebuffed...only real question is who and how many times?

It really puts VTs position even more clearly into perspective.

Banks was never coming here--he's a successful coordinator at a P2 school that just made the Playoff.

He clearly was in-line to be extended and was probably using VTs interest as a bargaining chip in negotiations with TN.

I think its pretty clear that we are getting pretty deep down the candidate list and that most of the "best options" clearly see Pry as a guy on the hot seat.

We also haven't found any S&C coach yet which is equally disturbing.

I think the writing is on the wall for Pry here..rather than overpaying for option #7 who probably only will have a marginally better resume than the guy we just fired, VT should save money to pay all the inevitable buyouts at the end of the year.

Not pleasant thoughts and maybe I will be proven wrong by a surprise splashy hire but nothing at all whatsover so far suggests thats likely.

To me, this scenario still qualifies for VPIhokieME's prediction above - that we basically whiffed on our options with experience/qualifications, and this was the third or fourth option down on our list, but it will be spun like it's a 4D chess move that we planned to do all along.

"Look, these guys were in the vicinity of a national championship team!"

Nice work, thanks for putting this together.
