It's mental to me that anyone is still conjuring up optimistic scenarios this late into the game lol.

I'll be the first to eat my shorts if I'm wrong - I've been all over this thread predicting doom - but I really think we've swung and missed on multiple prospects and are about to overpay, again, for an under-qualified bush league coordinator.

I don't think it's unreasonable to expect or pre-empt that based on Merryman's utter mismanagement over the last decade. I don't think people are mad enough about it.

From all the rumblings online, it sounds like Pry asked for authorization to up the salary at least twice over the last month and it was granted. Just reading the tea leaves, I think we went after Banks as our top target as a total moonshot. Unfortunately we got outbid at the end of the day, and Wednesday this past week was the decision point for Banks IMO based on Mehul's comments early this past week. It just didn't go in our favor.

Have also seen that Banks is likely eyeing a HC position in a few years so he may not have been here very long had we landed him. But still would have taken him in a heartbeat.

My worry is now we are going after under qualified candidates and will end up overpaying because we have some cash. You would think we could poach a standing P4 DC with the type of money we supposedly have available. But the names we are hearing now give me a little bit of uneasiness. Hopefully we are all pleasantly surprised but this is dragging out way longer than anyone had hoped.

Question for everyone - we seem to have given up on Tim Banks because he just signed a contract. I want to say someone else in vaguely recent history had just signed a contract before going somewhere else, maybe Jimbo Fisher? Anyway, any chance the contract may have been a negotiating tactic for a higher salary and we could still get him?

I know a lot of people think it's bad optics that there hasn't been an announcement made yet, but maybe the selection has been made and there's some obscure reason we haven't announced, or as I said before, they're making all the position coach hiring decisions first before announcing. Like maybe it IS Banks and he is trying to find the best position coaches possible, between what he's got now, what we've got, and maybe even someone from another school he would prefer to have over either what he's got or what we've got.

I mean, it's feeling more and more like whatever happens at this point there are so many possibilities we're not likely to guess. I know guessing is half the fun, but we're just spinning ourselves into a lot of anxiety based on what happened under Fuente. He was willing to die on the hill with his selections, and I'm not convinced that the JHam hire was anything more than because he was Foster's recommendation. How ca. we think Whit wouldn't have paid more than what we'd pay a first time coordinator. Pry isn't Fuente - we've already seen that because he was willing to let a friend of his go.

I also don't think we can judge how much Whit is willing to pay for a coordinator. If we assume Pry hired Marve and Bowen because of relationships and what he thought they were capable of, he saw Marve wasn't cutting it. He actually let go the weak areas on staff. Since he's not willing to go down with his friends, I think we have to say he knows his job is on the line. He"s going to want to get the best possible candidates. Even if it wasn't about saving his job, he probably wants to win games. Winning lots of games is good for his career and salary.

All that to say, and maybe it's just because I'm an optimist, but I have a feeling we're not going to be as disappointed as some of us think. I guess there isn't much else to speculate about since it's the offseason though. One way or another, hopefully we don't have to wait past Tuesday...

This particular Attorney, Heitner is an example of where CFB is heading.

He plays both sides of the coin...he represents athletes as an "NIL Attorney" but also (at least in the past) was involved in the NIL Collective @ UF. He also is faculty at Miami's Law School so he's teaching the next generation how to follow in his footprint.

So in this case, presumptively some portion the Attorney fees he collects in suing Wisconsin will be used to help fund Florida (and possibly Miami) Programs. Seems tremendously logical.

This is what the College Football is now...a shitshow run amok with an NIL system that clearly is not economically viable in the long -term--being exploited mostly by people who have no role with the actual product on the field.

The winners here are going to be lawyers and television executives. Not the athletes. And certainly not the fans.

I could try to guess on some of the freshman that'll see the field. I thought about adding in players that exhausted eligibility and were significant contributors, but a lot of them don't even have an on3 grade and I wanted to compare like to like.

Contrarian opinion here, but I feel like criticizing the NCAA is like yelling at the sky because it's raining. On an instinctual level it might make sense and feel right, but it's pointless and misguided.

The NCAA spent decades trying to enforce the rules that the member schools asked it to enforce, and it was shit on again and again for doing literally what it was created to do. Then federal- and state-level courts started ruling that they CAN'T legally enforce those rules. Now the NCAA is simultaneously criticized for being an overbearing tyrant that suffocates college sports with stupid rules, and also a feckless organization that promotes a wild west culture.

The reality is that the NCAA is a strawman at this point. It basically doesn't exist anymore.

So on paper we have improved most positions with the transfers. But we are short on bodies for LB and OL.

I mean UGA did decide they were tired of losing to other SEC schools and managed to get Simone Biles' coach, Cecile Landi, to leave Texas and be their co-head coach.

Every time I write about it, I expect the 9th man that has scored 12 points all season to have a career night of 25 points. We always seem to cure all ailments in that regard.
