There are at least two collective groups that distort the free market for how much players earn in both the NFL and college.
1) The NFL players have a union. That has at least three effects on player wages.
a) The players collectively negotiate for a larger pot of the money than the owners really want to give them. This likely increases combined total compensation of all players, and reduces the compensation of coaches. This is part of what lets college coaches make more than NFL coaches.
b) The players have set both minimum salary limits and fixed rookie contract wages. This limits the early earning potential, and total earning potential, of star players. However, it provides a significant boost to the wages of replacement level players.
c) The NFL won't take players under a minimum age, and allows players to play for as long as they're good enough. This means players under this age can potentially make more in non-union college roles than their union NFL roles.
2) The NCAA ostensibly has limited eligibility for players. This means that teams CAN NOT just pick the best players it can afford in a free market. The best young college players MUST pick a college team, and can't go to the NFL, who could theoretically pay more. Additionally, there is incentive for colleges to pay younger players to sit on the team for a year or two because they won't be able to just pay their best talent to stick around and play longer. However, there are no salary caps or requirements for spreading the wealth. This should theoretically distort the "wages" for college players by:
a) Letting the best young NFL quality players who are not yet eligible for the NFL demand wages above what they could make in a price constrained NFL rookie contract.
b) Allowing rich teams to increase the pay for developmental NFL quality players so they'll be available when currently better players are out of eligibility.
c) Because there are fewer NFL spots available than NCAA spots, and a larger total pool of players available to fill them, a college-eligible replacement-level NFL quality player will be a star college player (Pavia). This means they can potentially demand a higher wage in college due to the term-limited supply of players at that level. If players could play as long as they want in college, then Pavia would not be able to demand as much money, because he'd still be competing for a job with Tyrod Taylor.

NFL rookie base salary for a fucking FIRST round draft pick QB- 950K. Carson Beck an UDFA prospect likely - 4 million for a year- to play 12 games- he will opt out of any bowl. There is a stronger economic market in the underworld of college mega boosters with endless money apparently than NFL franchises valued in the 6-10 billion range today. This is very healthy and sustainable.

I have no doubt that the majority of the fans were hokies. If it was a little warmer, and we were actually having starters I think the attendance would have been at least 10k higher.
They are doing 2nd round of testing(first round results from earlier still pending). Chesterfield doesn't have 'boil water advisory' and I suspect the others will be lifted Saturday. That said some places in Carytown that had previously been closed due to the water issue are open tonight. If there's somewhere particular you are wanting to go to, I'd recommend a)checking their Facebook page and/or b) calling ahead to see if they are open.

A lot of places are still opened under VDH guidance and the advisory should be lifted sometime tomorrow, but for the time being your best bet is to find somewhere in Chesterfield if that isn't too inconvenient for your trip.

Henrico, Hanover, and Goochland are all under boil advisories on top of Richmond City. We haven't had clean water since Tuesday. We stayed home until we ran out of drinking water. Fortunately we got a deal on a room at one of Marriott's time share properties in Williamsburg so we are shacking up here until the boil advisory is lifted.

Fair point. I don't know how to describe what Nicholson's Joker was compared to Ledger's that differentiates him from Romero's, and I'm not sure I want to spend too much mental energy on that.

I know parts of Henrico and all of Richmond are stilll under the boil water advisory - where exactly does that extend to? My wife and I are headed down to Richmond for the weekend to meet with a realtor (yay, relocation) and are trying to figure out where would be good to go for dinner and such. We are staying in the Innsbrook Hyatt.

Being in the stadium that night, I'd still bet VT fans were 20-23000 of the 30000 attendance. ALL of VT ticket allotment were sold (usually that's 10-15k). And then you have the secondary market where we got our tickets. So I dont think we had a dropoff in traveling. (Granted that # could've been higher if the opt outs hadn't occurred and/or if it weren't numbingly cold weather for the game).
And that means that the three Penn State DEs are first round talents. Heavier shoulder, and just as quick. Did you see the DE getting the INT last night, dropping 15 yards from the LOS? And he was a second teamer.
We are in Williamsburg this weekend running away from the water issues in Richmond. Just ate at a deli in the outlet mall called Baazaro's. Terrific sandwiches and very nice staff. Given that I have never had a meal in Williamsburg that I liked, this was a really pleasant surprise.
Mrs Chumps and I will be going in late April. A few nights on the big island coinciding with my brother and then a few nights on oahu for a wedding, commenting to follow!
