Kenny Dillingham is just one of those coaches to perfectly fits the culture of his players and university. Guys seem to like playing for him too.

Fair enough. Since thousands of players enter the portal and find no home, it does seem Brent Pry is the one less replaceable and more valuable.

What NFL head coach does Brent Pry make more than? And I watch the same amount of games as when Beamer was coach and Pry is signing D2 kids to replace ACC kids and ticket prices have raised and we don't win. How valuable/replaceable are the players?

Brent Pry coaches amateurs and makes more than a number of pro coaches. Nick Saban made more than all but 2 pro coaches, yet they are at the amateur level. You don't see high school coaches getting paid to coach amatuers, they get a stipend that doesn't cover the extra gas they spend much less the time. In what world is Brent Pry more valuable than a guy that coaches pro athletes in the most profitable sports league in the world?
I've watched more VT games per year with Pry and Fuente as the coach than when Beamer was there. So the coach isn't bringing in my money.
Have you been to ASU, that's got to be an easy sell as long as it's not in mid summer. Great whether, great scenery, decent sized city, and it's known for being a party school. lots of great things for 18-26 year olds.
*ASU loses only 3 players to the winter portal and is holding their breath regarding spring portal.
The whole Cam package? no. That is like a Mike Alstott/Tim Tebow dude all in one. His production at the RB spot can be supplemented with similar numbers though. Leavitt can play and they get their best WR back too. Offense will be fine for ASU- it's the defense that is a concern.

amen. spot on. Unless the "rules" change we have a pretty hard ceiling. It's a vicious cycle... if we find a diamond in the rough 3 star, he will leave for more money. If we don't win, we can't significantly elevate HS recruiting to compete with the portal. It's over unless something changes.

I agree that we need to raise the talent level. But unless we get a massive influx of cash, it's just not going to happen. We cannot compete year in and year out with the top tier of college football with our budget. We're going to have to hope to catching enough lightning in a bottle to have a magical year every now and then.
More likely is the fact that they didn't need to score. VT's offense was doing nothing and punting after 3 downs, and Minny wanted to run the ball and throw to the TE- they never really tried to stretch the field, and they were up 2 scores.
This what I saw too. Their offense was more focused on keeping possession and draining the clock in the 2nd half than adding points. The final score was a lot closer than the game actually was.

I agree that the numbers out are skewed by the scholarship/walk-on change. Every school had to drop the bottom 10 of their roster or so.
