Like others, I'm torn on the news. All this really does for me is continue to have a tie-in back to the Beamer era and hopes of returning to the glory years, which I think is merely a dream. Most of me just wishes Bud could go enjoy retirement on a bass fishing boat and relax.
Good luck to them. It sure didn't work out for us.
So in other words he has 3 years eligibility remaining
Sounds fun. I'm not downloading another app to read it though.
he has played at the FBS level for three years already, hasn't redshirted. seems likely he's only eligible to play for us because of getting his freshman JUCO year back in eligibility
Maybe- although we don't know how much Bud was involved really. More likely is the fact that they didn't need to score. VT's offense was doing nothing and punting after 3 downs, and Minny wanted to run the ball and throw to the TE- they never really tried to stretch the field, and they were up 2 scores.
I randomly picked a couple "major programs" to compare their portal make-up so far out of curiosity.
Ole Miss: 17 in, 16 out. Bringing in 2 FCS players, 1 UAB, and 1 Charlotte (not FCS, but they got issues)
Michigan: 9 in, 23 out. Bringing in 1 FCS player.
Any and all things that might hurt Rich Rod, I fully support, yes.
all jokes aside- yes. The lawsuit ruled that any and all JUCO years do not count for eligibility. Pretty clear he has that many years left if he wants them.
yeah you couldn't play DE for Bud or Charlie if you couldn't run like a gazelle. This guy doesn't run like a gazelle. I don't see DE at all unless we are going to switch to a 3-4.
As an adult, I lived for 2 years in Orange Hunt.
That would be a thing of beauty from both the standpoint of jumpstarting our much needed OL development and pissing off the WVU fan base. I (as I am sure a lot of other TKPers) work with a fair amount of fellow VT grads but also way too many WVU and PSU grads 🙄🙄.
I said MIKE, and I continue to say MIKE even if his pass coverage grades are trash (and tape validates that.)
1) He is exactly what they need in run fits at the MIKE spot. Maybe the new DC will also consider blitzing the MIKE instead of the STAR every time, god forbid they surprise the OC once in a while.
2) Brent Pry's last MIKE at Penn State was also the backup DE, so there is some positional flexibility. https://gopsusports.com/sports/football/roster/season/2021/player/jesse-...
I think you can attribute that to the fact that I stopped watching after the first half. If I had been watching, figure we would have given up more TDs.

On3 has all of the incoming transfers listed except J. Reddish and Priester. They gave Hawkins an 86 and Nash is not graded yet, but is listed so I imagine will eventually get updated.
They don't go into detail of how their formula works, but it's supposed to measure how improved your roster is, so I would think having outgoing transfers outweighing incoming transfers would negatively impact your overall score.
On3's Team Transfer Portal Index utilizes the On3 (P)erformance score to measure a team's production during the transfer process, compared relative against its roster and not a comparison against other schools. This proprietary algorithm determines if a school has improved its overall team talent, stayed the same, or declined in talent during the transfer window
All that being said, bring on more 4 stars.

I was excited about the SoCon LB we got last year from VMI... until he showed up and couldn't play at this level.
You certainly are going to win more games bringing in guys from Mercer while Clemson and FSU are brining them in from the B1G and SEC and recruiting HS much better than you are.
"several million in NIL" for diego pavia I will never on earth believe unless I see his tax return. Most of these NIL numbers being thrown out are horseshit. Think about it. The NFL doesn't pay lower round draft pick QBs that money- they set the market- they are pros.
Well half the number of players coming in is going to skew this number. Also I see one more 4 star in than leaving. And we lose a bunch of 3 stars and the majority in coming are 3 stars. Also does this include FCS and lower division guys? of which several we have taken this portal cycle? To my knowledge they don't get "stars"?
Can't blame him for doing what he thinks is best for him.
I saw him make some good plays for VT - his contribution seemed better than his playing time. I hate that Rutgers seems like a better opportunity from his perspective.

Not sure where to put this, but On3's net transfer ratings (which measure how much you've improved your roster via the portal) has us at 17th in the country:
| Talent Out | Talent In | |
|---|---|---|
| Total Players | 25 | 12 |
| Avg Play Rating | 66.84 | 77.17 |
| 5-stars | 0 | 0 |
| 4-stars | 2 | 3 |
| 3-stars | 23 | 8 |
Definitely upgrading in portal.

Bud is still on the payroll, essentially to shake hands. I'd rather pay him to diagnose a blitz personally.
