they've committed to a 20mil NIL budget
I think it'll be similar to Return of the Mack with a higher ceiling the first year. He's going to get recruits and he's going to out coach everyone in the ACC, but everyone is going to transfer out after year one because he's miserable to be around. Maybe he only plans to do it for a year or two and hand it off to his son so it'll work out for him, but long-term I don't think this will elevate UNC football.
Sounds like he should be a Hoo
You don't think UNC can afford this?!?
Lol bless your heart. That school is made of money. They're gonna get the Jordan brand to pay for everything, they're East Coast Nike.
Definition of "entitlement"
You had your chance to stop them during the game. If you can't do that, you just look like a bunch of fucking clowns if you suddenly start throwing fists after the game cause you're mad.
You don't want them to celebrate, win. If you can't win, stfu and get back to the locker room and use it as motivation to not let it happen again.
I think this experiment might be funny. Young men may commit based on his coaching accolades, but when they see how he runs a no fun all business operation they'll be running for the portal.
Also he doesn't seem to have the magic touch anymore
Yeah, this might not work out in the end, but if I was a defensive recruit that wanted to understand how to succeed in the NFL, I'd be kneecapping other recruits to get a spot on his team
Should've been first team regardless. Just another snub in a shitty season
It was nice having a guy wreak some havoc on defense for a change. Glad he came home and earned himself some accolades.
This aged poorly
In this world of NIL I get saying "I'm gonna see what I can get and if you want to keep me I'd like this...."
However, to say "I want a guaranteed starting position, and to play every 3d down (which made me laugh actually)" is ridiculous. What coach is going to say you have a guaranteed starting position if your not already an entrenched starter.
I agree, it's soft to let the other team plant their flag in your logo. Beat them on the field, if you don't and they bring that kind of unsportsmanlike behavior to plant their flag? go ahead and whoop that ass.
Come play defense for marve at va tech, or go play defense for the master at unc. Wow, what a choice
For those who think he can't recruit in college

I mean.... Imagine proposing increasing your salary budget by 500% to be "competitive" and everybody nods their head like, sure that's cool with us.
Jfc, this whole NIL thing is a joke until there's some resemblance of oversight, it's going to be tough to watch.
These numbers being floated around what these kids are making is ridiculous. I'm all about athletes being compensated but the flood gates are open and won't close for a while. Ultimately, while trying to address one issue, the 2nd order effect is likely there are some many other sports that will likely seize to exist at most schools.
it was more so his dad that was the issue imo. Trying get that pay-day getting his son to the league.
The Chapel Bill Tar Hoodies.
My hope is that the P2 really do break away, and there are enough good regional peer institutions left behind (GT, NCSU, etc) that we can spin up a 1970s-era college sports environment.
I actively DON'T want to be part of where the P2 is headed.
After serious discussions with my friends and family, I'm willing to part ways with them to consider the role of Google's wife if offered.
Precisely...and if it doesn't pan out, well, blame Bill!
I think getting back to a perennial top 15-25 is doable. We SHOULD have been there this year.
I think that's where we are or at least should be. The upper portion of the top 25 with an every couple a years get into the playoffs due to a championship win. Then of course with those great players who get us an ACCCG victory will come bigger NIL offers at other schools and we will fall back #20 or so.
Don't think we'll ever sniff the National Championship game again.
Source tells me UNC will increase NIL package for football from $4 million to $20 million in effort to land Belichick.— Matt Hayes (@MattHayesCFB) December 11, 2024
Unless one of us is secretly a billionaire and prepared to write some big checks OR the ACC exploded in the couple years and we land in the P2 (fingers crossed), I think our best days as a football powerhouse are behind us.

And $30M for their head coach
